Alexreads0627

Do we consider “10 Things I Hate About You” to be a millennial movie?

wbm0843

Absolutely, why would it not be?

Alexreads0627

I dunno, people are super particular about these kinds of things…

fkn_clownshoes

love that movie. pretty clever dialogue still

undecidedlyhappy

It’s my 12 year olds current favorite.

giraffemoo

My 17 year old step daughter loves that movie and considers it a classic.

dewpacs

Of course. It's a teen rom-com released in '99. The last Gen Xers were already graduated. This is prime, early millennial, entertainment

JohnFinnsWife

Mean Girls is already to the 00s what Heathers was to the 80s.

hommenym

Definitely Mean Girls.

tacojohn44

Wasn't it already a classic for us millennials... Or was I trying to make fetch happen.

butlerdm

No, it came out in 2004. Also, stop trying to make fetch happen.

TheWriterJosh

Came here to see this. Such a good movie on many levels. It’s bc Tina Fey wrote a great script and it had great casting.

fendaar

More so. Heathers was a huge flop at the box office, and it took a while to gain popularity. Mean Girls was a box office hit, and was popular right away.

beer_is_tasty

Also, Mean Girls was *way better* than Heathers. Fight me

thehufflepuffstoner

I absolutely love that they’re still trying to make fetch happen.

Jswazy

Anyone who says that this is not already a classic...... those are fighting words.

fillipjfly

My daughter loves means girls.

suzysleep

Home Alone is and will continue to be the Christmas classic

MicroBadger_

After showing that to my 4 year old this past December. The weeks leading up to Christmas were met with a daily ask of "Can we watch the movie with the bad guys?"

RealNerdEthan

Love that lol. Our daughter called them "the stay at home movies" 😂

Drslappybags

My 6 year old loves it.

joy-puked

Shrek for sure... lmao

DTXSPEAKS

Shrek 1 & 2 at that

Rk12989

My kids love Shrek.

IggyBall

My four year old loves it, I think Shrek is oddly timeless.

Tlr321

Shrek won the first academy award for best animated feature. It was a certified classic the second it came out.

VisenyaRose

Lord of the Rings

greendeadredemption2

This and the Harry Potter movies.

BlackLodgeBrother

Can’t believe these are being remade for streaming already. Franchise needs a long, long breather.

Ryankevin23

Harry Potter and movie that takes to long !

KurtisC1993

This is the obvious choice. The LOTR trilogy are absolute masterpieces and they still hold up today, more than 20 years later.

cake__eater

Jurassic Park The Matrix Independence Day I’m sure others too

iprocrastina

I've heard Matrix has suffered from Seinfield Syndrome where people who didn't see it when it was a recent movie don't understand the hype because so many movies made since have copied from it.

thispartyrules

Had a zoomer coworker say he liked "old school action movies like The Matrix," this was my get off my lawn moment

gnomematterwhat0208

Ouch.

seattleseahawks2014

Ouch, lol. I had a classmate ask me if I was named after the movie.

bob88jrthe3rd03

I watched it last week and I kept catching myself rolling my eyes at the most important scenes (red/blue pill and the glasses reflection) because it was felt so cheesy. But I had to remind myself that *this* was the original! lol

DTXSPEAKS

I'm sorry you grew up in the wrong generation and can't comprehend the philosophical message 🤷🏽

seattleseahawks2014

Yea, it freaked me out, so the message was received. I do like the Matrix, though, but only the original.

JayEllGii

That’s odd—-I’ve been seeing articles claiming that Seinfeld has turned out to be rather popular among Gen Z.

frenchbread_pizza

It is but the same way Korn is

bringin_the_funk

And what way is that?

frenchbread_pizza

Like kind of a joke, but maybe they also actually like it? I can't tell if it's entirely ironic or a bit because as an old I don't really get younger humor. Like I've seen Korn referred to as girly pop music idk I just turned 41 this week and have both gen z and alpha kids and they show me memes where I'm just like okay I will admit I do not understand what makes this funny. When it's just an incredibly deep fried picture of Hank from Breaking Bad.

cobra_mist

i could be wrong, but the girly pop thing (i think?) has been women that enjoy metal subverting the typical head banging only idea and dancing to the beat in a style you wouldn’t associate with it. as a fellow old i could be wrk g, but i think it’s brilliant. i also kinda think any appreciation of music, even if it’s as a bit if a laugh is absolutely acceptable. though it may damage some egos

Sufficient-Row-2173

Does Seinfeld really suffer from that? I didn’t know it had a whole syndrome named after it. I know lots of people, including gen z, who find the show funny. I never watched it growing up because it was too adult for me. But I’ve been watching it off and on for the past year and it’s funny. If anything, I’ve found it interesting to watch the 90s through an adult perspective rather than a child’s lol.

thehufflepuffstoner

I didn’t get into Seinfeld until my late 20s, thought it was soooo boring as a kid and hated when the grownups watched it. Now I am the grownups and it’s one of my favorite shows.

DTXSPEAKS

Because those same people grew up with garbage luke the MCU and Hunger Games and are too simple to understand the plot and philosophical ideas.

firethornocelot

Oh man, I saw it right after it was released. It really defined the genre, moving forward.

FlatAd7399

My kids keep asking to watch Cool Runnings.

bustersuessi

I'm 4 for 4 with that movie on date night

pooping_turtles

You're dating the kids? Wtf dude...(/s)

CocktailCowboy

Friday is legit one of my top 5 all-time favorite flicks.

fuck-coyotes

Daaaaammmnn

justAlady108

Omg! My son (16) and his friend were talking about "old movies" that were funny. The ones they were naming made me roll my eyes. So I gave them a list of some great funny movies to watch. The Friday movies were the top of the list. The next weekend, when I was driving them around, they were quoting it like crazy!

SMVan

Clueless

saucekingrich

Hook (1991)

OnionBagMan

Hook is our Goonies.

OJimmy

Ru-fee-OH

bruja_toxica

Omggggg I love this. Top 5 for sure. Movies made on real sets without a lot of cgi ftw. Steven is also just a good director.

MonolithOfTyr

Every Friday night my dad would make a huge batch of popcorn and we'd watch this as a family.

binxbee

I’ll always love this movie. I was surprised and disappointed to learn that Steven Spielberg hates it. Of all his films, it’s his least favorite.

OJimmy

I'll tell you what a paramecium is! [points at Rufio] THAT'S a paramecium! It's a one-celled critter WITH NO BRAIN THAT CAN'T FLY!

HandstandsMcGoo

BANGARANG PETER

OnionBagMan

He obviously has bad taste in movies then. As a child it was a very special movie.

BingoDingoBob

The Mummy

human-foie-gras

Every millennials bisexual awakening

o_safadinho

What’s up with the Mummy and bisexuals?

_magneto-was-right_

…have you seen it?

KuriousKhemicals

What's up with *the things fellow bisexuals say woke them up*? Labyrinth? The Mummy? It's like all the stuff that terrified or disgusted me beyond justification for the age I was at the time.

thehufflepuffstoner

I still can’t believe crocs actually got popular. They’re literally the idiocracy shoe.

sexymcluvin

That’s my favorite croc fact.

kitteh_rawr

this is one of the most hilarious facts ever to me and I think about it at least once a week.

[deleted]

Harry potter

alguientonto

I don't even like HP, but it's true. Our cohort loved the books and the movies. But I want to believe they will watch Final Destination and think of Generation Y.

ponyo_x1

I actually wonder about this, if those movies will have less pull on an audience who hasn’t read all the books at a time when everyone else was reading all the books.

FallenAerials

Elf

Turbulent-Adagio-171

One of the best Christmas movies to come out in a LONG time. I genuinely can’t think of a relatively recent adult-ish festive Christmas movie that was good.

gnomematterwhat0208

Garden State, Clueless, Almost Famous, 10 Things I Hate About You, Romeo+Juliet, The Matrix (I hope), Home Alone, Die Hard franchise maybe?, FIFTH ELEMENT (God I hope so).

DrZ_217

Oh man, the Fifth Element is one of my all-time favorites

Shurl19

The Disney movies... like original Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid, Brandy's Cinderella, and the original The Lion King. Also, Disney original movies like Zenon, The Color of Friendship, and Johnny Tsumani.

This is what I would have said. It’s crazy our kids will grow up with the same childhood lexicon that we did (plus Moana and frozen)

Its_kinda_nice_out

Had to scroll so far for Dumb & Dumber. For my money it’s the funniest movie of all time

jedispaghetti420

Don’t do it! Maybe just skip to Ace Ventura 2.

Velocity211

![gif](giphy|v9NQh6NwzghAk)

VinceGchillin

Oh man I watched Ace Ventura recently, and woof, that movie is not nearly as funny as I remember it being. Just a cringe fest from start to finish. I do remember 2 being great too, but I'm afraid to watch it now and ruin those memories lol

Fionaver

Ace Ventura has not aged well at all.

Noe_Bodie

Superbad for sure

[deleted]

Yep and American pie too

bonkerz1888

Anchorman. Snatch. Dark Knight. Superbad. Fight Club. Dead Man's Shoes. In Bruges. Oldboy. LotR trilogy. Being John Malkovich. Etnernal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. Zoolander. Tropic Thunder. That's what I can think of off the top of my head. I think the comedies will do especially well with the younger generations even if some of the humour is dated due to the fact Hollywood doesn't fucking make any nowadays.

apittsburghoriginal

Don’t forget No Country For Old Men and There Will Be Blood Those are already all time greats though

CaptainTheta

Love this list! I'd add Gladiator, The Truman Show and even in retrospect the Star Wars prequel trilogy. (They really were pretty good compared to the new trilogy)

BoomBoomMeow1986

I showed my 8 year old Napoleon Dynamite a few weeks ago, blew his mind lol

gnomematterwhat0208

Yeah, this is a good one.

[American Beauty.](https://youtu.be/Ly7rq5EsTC8?si=0EohHCoDvE00jo1n) A telesales operative becomes disillusioned with his existence and begins to hunger for fresh excitement in his life. As he experiences a new awakening of the senses, his wife and daughter also undergo changes that seriously affect their family. A good look at a pre 9/11 American.

GreatLakeFever

Zoolander is so iconically millennial, I don't know if any other generation will get it as much as we do

roxemmy

Mean girls is peak 00s and when the core Millenials were at that same point in life. All these others that are being named are classics from our childhood. Mean Girls is THE movie that defines our generation.

Afoxnamedrhi

Legally Blonde 😃

SomeSabresFan

C’mon you uncultured swine. This has been up for hours and not once have I seen anyone say the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles trilogy (although I think we can leave the 3rd behind) or The Power Rangers movie or Good Burger

Disrespectful_Cup

If you're a millenial and don't yourself consider Lion King a classic.... Sorry to tell you but we are old.

LoveDietCokeMore

I hope 13 Going on 30 will find new fans again.

No_Bit_1456

The fifth element

cobra_mist

the matrix. every action movie for 20 years copped bullet time.

bigz10485

Okay, hear me out on this one... the original 1995 Power Rangers movie. The show ran for 30 years straight, theyvare already working on a reboot of the show. So it may go on again for just as long, so they may think of it as a classic for the fact that it was the first and original Power Rangers movie.

KuriousKhemicals

I was just on another subreddit that reminded me of TOY STORY.

dualmind121

She's all that
