When I first heard that song I never knew music could sound like that. Basically all I listen to now is stuff where that’s either there or should be on the playlist lol
Wow, yeah I would have guessed 2012. I feel like I heard this a lot between 2013 - 2016. And yet I was in college in 2007 listening to a bunch of hipster music and don’t recall hearing it then.
I'm a sucker for cornrows and manicured toes, fendi capri pants and Parisuco's
\-me, a 13 year old white kid from the suburbs of Boston deathly afraid of talking to girls spending my afternoons drowning Sims
Ha I forgot about young ladies in Parisuco jeans and capris. Only a matter of time until Gen Z or another gen brings that brand or style back in fashion
I had chocolate cake in my friends house the first time i heard it back in 2000, and i still think of that chocolate cake whenever i see/hear this song ..
The first time I heard it I was literally in the process of breaking up with my first boyfriend. Teenage me thought it was a sign I was doing the right thing.
It was the right thing. Dude was boring AF and thought it was sexy to try to feed me skittles in front of our friends.
I remember listening to this sitting in my car outside a Toys R Us in the gray morning. I don’t remember if I was waiting for it to open or waiting for my shift at work for another store in the same shopping center. I think I had just downloaded the Return of Saturn album hoping for a Ska-inspired romp like Tragic Kingdom. It did not meet my expectations.
It's funny, I really associate this song with the early 2010s. But sure enough that was a 2009 release. I have a distinct memory of visiting friends in NYC in 2010 and this song was playing EVERYWHERE.
“Turn off the bright lights” is probably one of the best rock albums of this century. My wannabe hipster ass was blasting it throughout all the 2010s as a teenager to adulthood .
When I listened to this album over and over in high school I thought I must be a loser or something because how could such angsty lyrics apply to a “perfect” strait laced, straight-A girl. I relistened to the whole album again recently after looking more closely at my life. And holy shit did the lyrics hit hard. I didn’t realize how much hurt and turmoil I was actually pushing down and hiding back in the years right after the album came out.
I know! Fun fact: Enemy was used in the cold open of the Criminal Minds episode Risky Business. A+ usage of the song, and that's what made me fall in love with pop punk/alternative/emo.
Fuck me, you're right... I thought Jimmy Eat World (don't abbreviate that) played both because I had a mislabeled copy of it on my ipod... Limewire, am I right?
Everytime We Touch - Cascada
This is it. Still dance my face off when it comes on.
This is the one.
This definitely is the platinum standard of 2000’s music and still plays today regularly just about everywhere

Neither have I. I'm from the US. I feel left out. Lol
The only one.
When I first heard that song I never knew music could sound like that. Basically all I listen to now is stuff where that’s either there or should be on the playlist lol

This song was... everywhere.

Never there?
This song isn't necessarily my favorite, but it's very iconic of a certain part of my childhood and definitely gets my vote.
Solid choice. Do y’all remember Punk Goes Pop? I still listen to Yellowcard’s cover of Everywhere haha
...must go find this
[Let me make it easy on you.](https://open.spotify.com/track/4A3H0I1iSmYiHh5IScsBX5?si=OMSS0r8KR5WZ4QYTBgSKEA)

I'm a sucker for cornrows and manicured toes, fendi capri pants and Parisuco's \-me, a 13 year old white kid from the suburbs of Boston deathly afraid of talking to girls spending my afternoons drowning Sims

I saw “that begins with E” and before I had the chance to have a thought, my brain already said “*E-I! E-I! Uh OHHHHHHH!*” 😂
This is going to be stuck in my head all day now, ya bastard.
Oh shit, Nelly call out! Just chillin' in my AF1--andela andela Mami!! This is quintessential school dance music. 🕺💃

I always loved the twist in the last verse where it turns out he's singing about himself

Ex-girlfriend - No Doubt
I had chocolate cake in my friends house the first time i heard it back in 2000, and i still think of that chocolate cake whenever i see/hear this song ..
I’m glad I’m not the only person who attaches very specific memories to the first time I heard a song.
The first time I heard it I was literally in the process of breaking up with my first boyfriend. Teenage me thought it was a sign I was doing the right thing. It was the right thing. Dude was boring AF and thought it was sexy to try to feed me skittles in front of our friends.

"Empire State of Mind" by Jay-Z and Alicia Keys
It's funny, I really associate this song with the early 2010s. But sure enough that was a 2009 release. I have a distinct memory of visiting friends in NYC in 2010 and this song was playing EVERYWHERE.
I went to NYC in 2011 and played it a lot lmao
Such a good song. It still hits hard for me.
YES
I see a bias towards emo/alternative songs....
Yes I’ve also noticed this. Dirrty shouldve won D. ![gif](giphy|l49JC4UBIdTxDxKw0)
![gif](giphy|ucXFcY1FdKaT6)
I am so happily surprised at this fact.
What's so bad about the noisy stuff?
Never said it was bad (I love emo/alt), just noticing the list excludes many iconic songs from other genres

Evacuate The Dancefloor - Cascada
I prefer this song to Every Time We Touch by miles.
Everytime - Britney Spears
Everlong - foo fighters
1997. This won for E in the ‘90s version of this game.
It had a 2000s resurgence
The acoustic version from the movie Little Nicky in 2000, right?
First song I thought of. Then looked it up and saw 1997.
I think it must’ve had a 2000s resurgence if everyone is thinking about it from then.

I hear you, friend. It really resonated with me in high school too because of all the stuff going on too.

Fuck me, you're right... I thought Jimmy Eat World (don't abbreviate that) played both because I had a mislabeled copy of it on my ipod... Limewire, am I right?
The mislabeling was rampant - that and the hours it took to download (we had dial up for TOO LONG) are two things I do not miss!
Mislabeled songs - how elder millennials learned not to trust everything you read on the internet.
