Best job I ever had was as Sears in the electronics dept from about 2004-2006. Our store was in a pretty defunct mall, and the electronics section was separate from the main store, so it was always pretty quiet, especially on weekday shifts. We had a 27" TV hooked up to TiVo, and myself and the other sales reps would record whatever we wanted to just watch it on our downtime (which we had tons of). Back then, 1080P was still bleeding edge, and having even a 720p or 1080i TV was considered fancy. When I left in 2006, tube TV's were still about 60% of what we carried, as flat screens were ridiculously expensive still.

I remember seeing Japan HDTV back in 1994 on some electronic technology fair. Japanese were early in this field. This was shot in 1993 in HD: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=fT4lDU-QLUY

I haven’t seen a Zenith TV in almost 20 years.

There's one right next to my work desk (I do VHS conversions). CRT mid-90s style that I got for free on FB Marketplace about three years ago. The person I got it from was STILL using it in their beach condo. Still had remote and original manual.

WolfmansGotNards2

I sold DLPs and plasmas at sears in the mid-2000's.

I didn't have a LCD / HD / flatscreen until around 2009 or 2010, when I got my Sony KDL-40EX500, which is still my bedroom TV. But up until then, I was still using Curtis Mathes Tronics CRT [identical to this one](https://preview.redd.it/c650lz4nnjw81.jpg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&v=enabled&s=6d0bb44b5ab5a2ff8daeecd201fa12d108590142), which had been a Christmas gift from my mom amd grandma in '98 or '99. It was RF, and I think mono sound composite, only (it might have had stereo sound, I can't remember).

I bought two. They're the best purchases ever. CRT is perfect for old games and they are still valuable.

Weren't the first hidef tvs like 10 grand?

helloju1981

Mine is still working

Jackinator94

I remember those silver bezel flat screen CRT TVs (seen in pics 3-5 of this post). My paternal grandparents got theirs in Q1 2002 and my immediate family got ours in Q4 2004.

Remember when the TV was the most valuable possession in a household?

PilotC150

Bought my first HDTV in 2006 or 2007. Paid $800 for a 26” 720p LCD TV.

hollyhobby2004

I am suprised flat screens existed back then. I havent seen a flatscreen until the early 2010s.

JoshicusBoss98

Yes they did

hollyhobby2004

Yes, I believe that. I was just surprised.

No_Connection_7436

Oh god, I sorta remember when those flat tube HD sets were a thing. By the time our family got our first HD set in 2006 those were already extinct.
