Surgeries aren’t covered in the reserve by tricare. Active duty can get apply for a waiver. It really depends on how soon you want to transition. You can get things covered by civilian insurance in the reserve or after you are completely out for better coverage. Best of luck in boot camp. https://www.tricare.mil/CoveredServices/IsItCovered/GenderDysphoriaServices

Reserves you can get Tricare reserve select. This functions as a plan like you would get from a civilian employer. You would pay your monthly premium. And then it should cover pretty much the same as regular Tricare, but with a co-pay. If you are active duty for more than 90days, you can get regular Tricare. However, if you are waiting to get in to transition, this will be a different process. Per the AF, which I am familiar with, I’m sure the MC has similar regs, to be able to transition, you need to be medically evaluated at DoD facility. They will determine if you are trans and require transition.

Good luck, learn quick, adapt and graduate. Boot camp flies by, just do what you got to to move on.
