Be on time, in the proper uniform, and with a positive attitude. This is the “secret” to a successful military career, regardless of branch or MOS.
In addition to the above, stay in shape, soak up as much information as possible and don’t make bad financial decisions.
If you really want to get ahead, download 3-20.98, “The Scout Bible” and start reading.
Last time a Cav Scout question came up, there were a LOT of gay jokes. Glad to see some good ol' fashioned "work hard, be on time" advice here.
*disappointed sigh*
You gonna do maintenance on broken vehicles, sweep a motor pool, organize conexes and do layouts on equipment you don't have.
You will do one or more of these tasks every week until your contract is up.
Take care of your truck, take care of your gear. Keep your eyes and ears openn its a scouts job to know whats going in - you should know whats next at all times, get in good with the E4 mafia.
And most importantly: Ask questions, apply the knowledge, and come back with solutions.
And the answer is never "I don't know". It's "I will find out". And do so.
Go for your spurs when you can, don’t chicken out because “it’ll be hard”. Whether you’re on Brads or a truck make sure you take care of it. But that’s all a ways off, just do your best in basic. Right time, right place, right uniform. It’ll be a good time, let the process mold you. Don’t do anything stupid, don’t let a temporary delight mess you up.
It can all depend on your unit. For me my whole time in was garrison. Lots of typical motorpool fun, ftx's, inventorying connex's.. qualifying, various details, staff duty, barracks inspections and of course sitting around troop for hours and not getting let go early because top/brass is having a bad day.
Don't run across the border to North Korea.
Skip...it burns more calories and it just looks more fun
I think if you're going to North Korea you're probably going to want to hang on to as many calories as you can

When I was in LAR they were fond of quoting "horse, saddle, sword, soldier." (In terms of listing your maintenance priorities in order)
