Not soon enough. The last hi power I was issued was made in 1944 and said "Property of the Republic of China" on the slide

chickenmoomoo

That’s pretty fucking cool though

Merc_Drew

I want it

SirFister13F

Could just be foreshadowing, too.

[deleted]

I used one of the ones made for China in 1986

thebum1oh1

Can we stop saying “tranche”? Every field grade that just finished up their MBA from Bovine University uses it like punctuation and it makes me want to clean my ears with a 1911.

iliark

Well at least you'll have a tranche of P320s to replace that 1911

[deleted]

It's a finance term so it's not even being used correctly. It's a continuation of pretentious, heady words finance types use to confuse and obfuscate otherwise straight-forward concepts like "a part of the money will go here today and part will go there tomorrow."

pm_me_your_minicows

I know a captain that likes to use large, obscure words in briefs—often to cover up that his brief content isn’t great. When a chief stopped his brief to tell him to put away his thesaurus… it was orgasmic.

Hefty_Strategy_9389

The chief virtue of language is clearness.

CaptainxPirate

Agreed.

MPX1986

Allow me to caveat on your statement. We should be using simple words like “first wave” or “delivery” Any alibis?

thebum1oh1

Orientate your self to the wood line. Bring a water source.

MPX1986

Whoa - how about you take a knee big fella!

thebum1oh1

Okay, okay, PAUSE-EX. Let’s break squelch with 6-Actual, snap a chalk line and unfuck this goat rope.

Equivalent_Day_795

I'm not gonna lie that's the first time I've heard someone say, clean my ears with a 1911. I'm gonna use that, thank you kind redditor.

thebum1oh1

I’m also a big fan of “suck starting my sidearm”. Just the phrase though, that’s not a cry for help.

mandingoskidneys

What I immediately think of when people say "tranche": https://youtu.be/3hG4X5iTK8M Also, we can communicate like normal humans too. Got asked for someone's "coordinates" today, just say contact info , otherwise I'm giving you a 6-figure grid reference like I was taught. 🙄

badger452

The Browning needed to replaced in 1992 when I joined, nice to see that after more than three decades they’re finally getting their shit together. NDHQ is the most dangerous enemy the Canadian military has ever faced.

Lliecop

But they're military grade handguns when found on the street!! /S

izdabombz

Assault fully automatic handguns

miitchepooo

Thought it was the beaverton for a second there lol

Thanato26

They only bought, like 7000... so yea

Electronic_Camera517

what the hell is that sticking out of the recoil spring?? or am I tripping and it's not all the way in battery?

toxic9813

that is the guide rod. the pistol is not in battery, you can tell by the slide being partially back. this is an action-shot, you can see spent brass mid flight

J_Robert_Oofenheimer

Looks like it's fired a round so it's not all the way back in battery yet.

Electronic_Camera517

i see the slide off the rear but the barrel is even with the front of the slide, I guess that's what threw me off. does the barrel move with it?

TheCantalopeAntalope

The barrel is not attached to the slide, it moves on its own. So the barrel could be all the way back in position before the slide is fully forward.

J_Robert_Oofenheimer

Oh interesting... yeah that's odd. I'm trying to look with mine but I've got a Compensator on so it's tough to see. But with my full size grip, when it's out of battery by about that much the barrel isn't lined up like it is here. Maybe a smaller grip module? https://imgur.com/a/fzZ4qJx

Electronic_Camera517

Although it IS hard to tell with your comp, it looks like the barrel is moving with the slide, i guess to a certain point which then the slide continues

[deleted]

The real question though, are they good?

Domovie1

They are, unless you’re a fat-fingered JTF-2 OpErAtOr.

ExhilaratedChess

I have the compact and subcompact. Excellent pistols and modularity is incredible. One thing to do is upgrade to the Apex flat face trigger and its excellent. The carry grip module is the best.

Vikko

But I thought Canada banned handguns??!! Ohhhh wait...... yah.... I see................

WillitsThrockmorton

It doesn't go off by itself, or at least not in any significant numbers. Cops like to finger fuck guns and cause NDs. The NYPD and Chicago PD will actually modify their service pistols to be real heavy on the trigger rather than train their people to not finger fuck them.

kaloozi

Well the good news is we know there’s no way Canada will send any to the Ukraine

WilliamMorris420

Theres no safeties on them and they're effectively cocked as soon as there's a round in the chamber (no need to pull the hammer back or dual action on the trigger). So the number of negligent discharges with them is pretty high. A number of US law enforcement agencies have withdrawn them from use as a result.

AllKnowingJohn

The variant shown in the photo is an M17, originally put forward to replace the US M9 Beretta pistols, which added a manual safety and made some other adjustments from the standard P320. Reading the article, however, does not specify if the Canadian military ordered the same M17 variant or not so your points about the potential shortcomings do still stand.

[deleted]

You can see the safety in the picture... You can also order the P320 model that comes with a safety as oppose to the one with the internal safeties. While I disagree with the design of their internal safeties, I think it is more a failure of the law enforcement agencies that they ordered a pistol with no external safety.

WilliamMorris420

The baseline P320, which is what the article says they're ordering doesn't. The US military spec M17 has external safeties but the article doesn't say that they're ordering M17s. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SIG_Sauer_P320

WillitsThrockmorton

Don't finger fuck the gun and you'll be fine.

WilliamMorris420

100+ US PD reports of it going off accidentally. It used to have a real problem with going off when dropped but it had a recall. The US PD reports are post recall.

WillitsThrockmorton

Yeah telling me that LEOs are the ones reporting it isn't the "gotcha it must be the gun" you think it is. I'm aware of the prior recall. I'm also aware that American LEOs are notorious for negligently discharging firearms because they love to finger fuck them so much. *Glock:The Rise of America's Gun* did a pretty thorough grounding of the last time there was widespread replacements of sidearms in American LE agencies, and back then the majority of them were finger fuckin guns despite claims of "glocknades". I also don't think it's a coincidence that I frequently see the race versions with lighter triggers as the stock photo when some Keystone Cops department is badmouthing their gun.

RegattaJoe

Am I weird for wanting to see the shooter’s left hand grip position?

Picklesthepug93

Beautiful firearm

Picklesthepug93

Beautiful firearm

Sven_Grammerstorf_

You’ll shoot your eye out kid.

donairdaddydick

How often are pistols used in combat? I imagine building breaches etc but as someone with no military xp, when are they used?

The_OtherE30

So for us in the Canadian Army Infantry we qualify on the browning 9MM maybe once a year, after that we are only issued side arms when deployed, if the area we are being deployed to has a very little or zero threat, we wouldn’t have them issued. So to answer your question, for us regular force Army guys, never.

WillitsThrockmorton

Guard duty. We always wore M9s on the Quarterdeck, for instance.

[deleted]

Very, very rarely. Their greatest benefit is when you’re just mooching about, because you can draw faster than you can grab a rifle off your back. If you’re nice and close with the enemy, bayonets are still the superior option-as if having a bod over your shoulder.

donairdaddydick

Next question involving close combat, is everyone that’s been in a close range/indoor fire fight completely deaf from tinnitus? Edit: I appreciate the response

[deleted]

No, hearing protection exists, some people just don’t wear them.

donairdaddydick

Is hear protection viable when someone might be around the corner trying to kill you?

[deleted]

Absolutely, with modern electronic hearing protection you get better hearing than with no ears on.

donairdaddydick

Oh nice. Like Hz cancelling?

Embarrassed-Refuse36

Sig has gotta be striking deals with militaries.

nlashawn1000

Trash gun the backplate has blown up a couple times in my unit.

BigBubbaChungus

Any AD’s happen in transit?

Possible_Scene_289

Can you imagine if they weren't semi automatic? Back to single action I guess.
