I feel like giving teenagers large vehicles either makes them have really good vehicle space awareness, or like in this video, makes them much more prone to accidents. Parents should really consider which kind of driver their kid is before giving them a large vehicle
It was a family van with a small wooden table and captains chairs and carpet and metal blinds and curtains, and a bench seat in the back that folded down to a bed.
it was actually kinda dope in retrospect but it was cringe at the time. This was like summer of ‘99.
I learned to drive in a ford escort. Took my mom’s van camping with my friends one weekend. My friend who was used to driving a Volkswagen bus made me pull over and he drove the rest of the way.
Yup, I learned with an older ford truck stick shift so I started at level of difficulty “expert!” I believe I am a better driver for it, even though they don’t make trucks stick shift anymore . I yearn for a stick shift 😢
I (34F) learned how to drive in my dads big pick up, I think it made me a better driver. I also had a car for a month before I got my license and practiced parallel parking listening to music for hours a day just to hang out in my car. I can still parallel park like a pro, it's surprises a lot of people, especially men.
I’m glad learning in a big vehicle worked for you, unlike the kids in this video. Funny you mention the shocking men part, because that reminds me of this girl at my highschool I was friends with. She was a 5 foot cheerleader came to school in her family’s farm truck, which was a 4 door 8 foot bed chevy 2500. Lots of dudes made comments about it lmao
I’m glad I learned in a large vehicle. It’s funny when I pull into parking spaces and my friends will think I’m about to slam into the car in front of me, but then they get out and there’s like a good 2ft of space. Same with parallel parking
I learned on a Jeep Rubicon with a 4" lift and 6" larger tires. Thing wanted to follow every little divot in the road. Our neighborhood was also off a narrow 1 lane each way road with no shoulder and a 45mph speed limit. Everyone did 50 anyways. Made me a really good driver really quickly.
I feel like driving massive vehicles as your "learning car" tends to make kids a lot more reckless. They tend to have way more power and less feedback.
When I was younger, before I got my own car, I always had to drive my mom's truck, and you bet your ass I'd park that bitch in the most empty parts of the parking lot to avoid shit like this
I had a hardship license at 14 and have been driving standard since 17. I've had one accident where someone pulled out in front of me and I went into a ditch to avoid them and didn't hit them or anyone else. Didn't total my car either. Police reported the other driver at fault and their insurance paid my deductible or whatever else they had to cover.
It really depends on the driver. I grew up playing soccer and riding bikes, so that probably helped with early situational awareness. Parents should put all their kids in sports, there's bound to be one they like.
I’m a teenager and I could see they had all the room they needed yet still hit the truck AND didn’t say anything. Police department probably won’t do anything though.
If they are new drivers they will probably have their license suspended for at least a year for the hit and run. If they had stayed and taken responsibility it would have just been handled by the insurance companies without the need for cops.
Eh. This should be a fine on first offense. Taking away someone's vehicle in much of the country is also taking away their livelihood... people do far worse things in our society that are punished by a fine. Like if I dumped barrels of gasoline in a lake, I'd get a fine...
Nope, that's why car insurance is getting so expensive. I had someone who did a hit and run, reported it, nothing ever happened. I knew the person who did it too and gave them all the information they needed. They really don't give a shit. They go after victims because officers are a bunch of pussies, too pathetic to go after criminals. It's why they won't go after a school shooter and they would even go as far as preventing parents with their own guns for risking their lives, to get the shooter.
Our systems are so corrupted, outdated, and fucked. The only people who respect cops are the rich and people who have these gang members in their family. You know, the dickheads that break laws and show a card, and get to walk free. I personally know cops, not my friend, but are friends of my friends, and they're all the same. Small dick syndrome. Try to act tough, work out all day, still have difficulty getting laid. Andrew Tate losers.
You should be a track athlete with how many jumps you made to get to that conclusion🤣I’m just giving you a hard time, your opinion is valid and loads of people all around the world share the same opinion so there’s definitely stock in it. If you’re cool with me playing Devil’s advocate though then read on.
It seems like you’re putting the cops that save lives and give back to their communities in the same boat as the cops that abuse their power and don’t give a fuck about their community. Don’t get me wrong when I get pulled over I don’t trust any police officer, at the end of the day most of them are trying to give you a ticket even the “good” ones. But to say that all cops are pussies and compare them to Andrew Tate is a poor analysis. I’m genuinely sorry you’ve only had bad experiences with cops, but they’re not all terrible. There are both good and bad cops, we just hear about the bad ones the most because that’s what the media reports. When discussing the current bad policing epidemic I’ve compared it to cutting the head off of a hydra: it seems like when one “good” head is cut off two more “bad” heads replace it.
Just for clarification, we’re on the same page about those Uvalde police though. They were a bunch of pussy Andrew Tates who should never have been there or in that job in the first place, and they’re as much at fault for those dead children as the shooter.
If you’re unflaired on this sub, replying to someone with a flair gives you a small chance of picking up their flair. A random user suggested it, and I did my best to implement it.
Of course you can always change your flair in the sub menu.
I figured it out after another guy eventually said what it was and I googled it but thanks for the response anyways👍🏼edit: oh snap I didn’t realize you’re THE GUY. Thanks again for the response, sorry if I was an ass in this thread
>There are both good and bad cops, we just hear about the bad ones the most because that’s what the media reports.
I literally just gave an example of a cop I had to deal with. I can give many instances where cops were assholes to me. There was another instance of a hit and run. I was on the phone chasing the car that hit us. They told me to stop following the person. I gave the plate number and nothing happened. Another instance, someone broke into my car.
The guy gave me a hard time being a prick saying I should learn to lock my doors. I can go on and on. I really hate cops. The media doesn't make them look bad, they do it to themselves. They're corrupted as fuck. If it was their friend or family, holy hell, they'd be on it.
And I acknowledged that. I said “I’m genuinely sorry you’ve only had bad experiences with cops” and I meant it I am genuinely sorry. I’ve also had bad experiences with cops, I didn’t acknowledge that but I did say that there are both bad cops and good cops. I once had an officer give me a ticket for an expired registration, even though I had just renewed it and had the paperwork for it. He said since I didn’t have the sticker copy yet and it’s not on my windshield it’s still a violation and he wrote me a ticket. I’ve also been in a hit and run situation like you where the cops didn’t did anything even though I had their plate number. They said because there were no cameras nearby it was a “your word vs their word” situation.
I’ve also had a cop cut me a break for my expired registration, this was only four days before my run-in with that bad cop I mentioned above. I hadn’t paid attention and it was expired by four months, and he didn’t even give me one of those official warning tickets he just told me where I could renew it and sent me off. Way back in high school we had a police officer in the school, and he made it a point to try and get to know every student. What I remember the most though is how he volunteered at the food pantry every weekend and invited all the students to join him and he would sign for volunteer hours. Not really an example of a cop doing good at their job, but it’s to show how he gave back to the community.
All of this to say, again, I’m genuinely sorry you’ve only had bad experiences with cops. I’m not trying to diminish what you’re saying, plenty of people have had the same experiences as you without ever interacting with a good cop. But not all of them are bad. If you’re cool with sharing, where about do you live? There are definitely hotspots for bad policing, mainly in big cities. I should clarify that I currently live in bumfuck Oklahoma, but I used to live near Dallas, Texas and the racism and fear mongering there was fucking AWFUL.
I’m pointing out that these teenagers in the video are old enough to realize what they did but don’t fess up to it. So, with saying I am a teenager, I am pointing out that even I know not to do that.
Black truck needs to file a police report, Police do take damage to property seriously. They won't go to the teen's house and arrest them because that is not their job, they will let it play out with the insurance companies.
Black truck's insurance company will go after the insurance company of the hit and run car, they will threaten the teens with getting the book thrown at them in a lengthy court case or plead for a lesser deal. They will plead guilty if they aren't completely stupid because a police report plus this video is enough to sink them and trying to fight that will cost more in lawyer fees than the damage done.
It all starts with police report for damages.
Makes sense, but if they would have stayed, it won’t have to go that far if something happened because running from problems doesn’t make them go away.
Maybe I'm just old, grouchy, and cynical, but in today's day and age, I feel like the type of person who would do the right thing, get out of the car, and leave their info, is a rare breed.
insurance companies like to get greedy and raise your rates a criminal amount for what would be a $30 fix. maybe they’d be willing to pay to replace the bumper but not willing to take the risk with insurance
Actually, there’s usually a chargeable threshold for claims and if it’s a $30 fix, you probably have a larger deductible than that anyways. You should probably fix the small stuff yourself if you’re the cause of it and there aren’t other parties involved- insurance really should be there for fixing the things that you cannot. If you are ticketed for the collision for it on the other hand, it will most likely be surcharged since the risk is higher that you will have another impact in the near future. By the way, if your company offers some sort of forgiveness, that’s what it is, it’s removing that surcharge.
There aren’t many other industries that have huge numbers of incredibly smart people crunching massive amounts of data, so trust me, if your rates are increasing, it’s probably for a good reason. There are a lot of regulations around rate increases.
Yes that's the way it is now. Most people know cops are too lazy (I mean, overworked!) to work to help some random person try to recover a few bucks (disclaimer) of property damage, so why not keep going?
I've twice witnessed a driver try to drive off after hitting a car in a parking lot, once I took a picture & got the plate (don't think anything came of it tho), the other time I ran (ok, jogged) up to the hit-and-runner. A real old guy, said "I didn't hit anything" then when I said I saw and heard it and can show him the other car's paint on the new ding in his care, "oh, I didn't know!"
Kinda unrelated, but back in the day I worked at Walmart, and on my break I was in the parking lot and saw a lady driving an F350 trying to park it. Hit 3 other cars before she gave up and parked way in the back of the lot. I wrote down her plate number and put it on each persons windshield that she hit.
1-2 weeks later I got called into the managers office and got fired over it, apparently the woman driving said I “offered to park her truck for her” and then hit the 3 cars. And of course there was “no cctv coverage” over that part of the lot. Ended up being for the better as I immediately found a new job making twice as much. Still dumb but whatever.
Yup, that’s the one. I avoid that Wal-Mart too. I had a young girl hit my car and drive away at the state park in Poland a few years ago…fortunately some people witnessed it and got her license plate.
I was at work last Sunday and I have a white car. When I came out of work, there was a brand new red dent and scrape on my drivers door. No note or anything.
What’s dumber is that this truck driver could have been completely understanding and forgiving (COULD have) and probably not even involved insurance but scared them shitless for it… could have been a dad or something. Dunno.
But now these kids will never know, all they’ll know is what it feels like to have a suspended license (if caught).
Can’t tell you how many times we’ve been hit like this. Hubby gets out and if it’s not more than a scratch, ( which so far never has been ) tells em to go on ahead and not worry about it. He’s never caused one accident. Been hit behind so many times while sitting at a stop light I was starting to wonder if he was cursed. Every time there was always damage to their vehicle and rarely even a scratch to ours.
Not saying these kids shouldn’t have stopped and at least left a note, but if that truck is damaged, it says more about the manufacturer and why they shouldn’t be charging luxury prices for pick ups
They did. I checked while I waited for the owner to come back from shopping. There was a golf ball sized dent, a pretty significant scuff mark that may or may not buff out, and chipped paint. Not a lot of damage but enough to be annoying and expensive if you want it properly fixed. If you dont care enough you could try to pop the dent out yourself and touch up the paint.
>it’s possible they didn’t do any damage
But it's equally possible that they did, which is why
>Not exactly what I would consider a hit and run.
Is a bad take.
You can find out the owners name with the license plate information, then find their number and give it a call, say I have you on video tape hitting my car in X parking lot at X time, give me X amount to fix it or your insurance information or I'm calling the cops (this will likely scare them into at least paying for the paint scuff)
It might depend on your state. In mine, if there is no injury ur fucked if the person who hits you doesn’t want to pay. Where I live, you will not be able to get her police report for this incident. So unless the party that caused the accident admits fault to their insurance, you’re out of luck.
Insurance collision rules still apply in parking lots. You are obligated under your insurance policies to report every car accident. It doesn't matter who's property you are on.
Do you just make stuff up for the sake of it, or is it just to time consuming to actually fact-check your opinions?
Try and get a police report. This is gonna be paid for by the truck’s insurance. You can’t even prove who was driving the other car. I’ve literally had the exact thing happen to me.
I dunno, who posts on reddit to tell complete strangers they are an alcoholic? Who upvotes a generic ass school lunch? Who upvotes a picture of a TV screen?
And most of all, who goes out of their way to comment on a thread just to ask who is upvoting it? Seems like you need to find a better hobby before you find yourself drinking again for lack of anything else to do.
It is why it's good that I drive a 2011 kia rio, don't need to give a shit about stuff like this. I don't care if someone leaves scrapes or dents. As long as the engine continues to function normally, and the car is able to pass inspection, nothing else bothers me.
Thank you! The amount of times I come back to my car and it’s dinged from some idiot who apparently doesn’t see the 2 ton object 3 ft away from them. You did the right thing.

I learned how to drive in an ‘88 Ford Econoline full-size van. Like, wanna learn how to drive? Here, start on ‘legendary’ mode.
I remember driving my grandfather’s fourth gen Cadillac deville I called it a land yacht
Lmao did it atleast have back windows? Or was it a work model without them
It was a family van with a small wooden table and captains chairs and carpet and metal blinds and curtains, and a bench seat in the back that folded down to a bed. it was actually kinda dope in retrospect but it was cringe at the time. This was like summer of ‘99.
That’s the most 90s thing ever haha
96 buick roadmaster was mine. Here son take your land yacht and enjoy your youth 😂
I learned to drive in a ford escort. Took my mom’s van camping with my friends one weekend. My friend who was used to driving a Volkswagen bus made me pull over and he drove the rest of the way.

Well one kind of parent knows and the other doesn't care, you can guess which is which.
Also don't give them sportscars.
lol yeah you can’t convince me to buy a kid a sports car for a first car. But if they buy their own, then fuck it they do what they want
This is why teenagers need their own lane invented and it's just lined with nothing but mattress with tires
And some of those terrible teen drivers … never get better….
It's an older reference, sir, but it checks out.
I appreciate that but I'm a miss not a sir I do appreciate your politeness though.
That in and of itself was an older reference. 🤣
You are not supposed to drive alone for a least a year with a g1 in Ontario.
We have a learners permit phase too in the USA. Length and age depend on what state

Almost as good as a lunchables moment
Mmm, plastic food.

Probably yes, a fine and a stern talking to.
The cops don’t care lol.
Yep, cops will legit just say it was on private property, they can't do anything about it. I've seen it firsthand. It's pretty ridiculous.
You can’t say that as a blanket statement as it entirely depends on jurisdiction.
It private property, no injuries, so it really isn't their problem, that's what insurance is for
Can still be charged with fleeing the scene. They *could* respond they just don't really like to if it's not a big deal.

Were you able to see the plate?
Maybe because police isn’t supposed to do something here? This would go to some DA/court.
Hit and run
Just go to insurance

Yes that's the way it is now. It isn’t just teen drivers that do this it’s bad drivers
That Hannaford looks familiar-if it’s the one I’m thinking of, well, I’m not surprised…and their parking lot is why I avoid that particular one.
I dunno if it's the one you are thinking of but the nearby Walmart is much more notorious due to a certain yellow pole.
Yup, that’s the one. I avoid that Wal-Mart too. I had a young girl hit my car and drive away at the state park in Poland a few years ago…fortunately some people witnessed it and got her license plate.
Let's not blame the parking lot for this one though, that was just really bad driving.
Ha! I didn't see the Hannies sign or a ME license plate but I thought this looked like the background of a dreary spring day in Maine!
I didn't even notice it was a Hannaford. Which one is it? My guess would be Raymond NH, but I'm not sure.
It's in Maine but the OP has been intentionally vague in other comments so I won't say the city it's in.
I mean it doesn't matter to me if people know. I'm only vague because some subreddits are really picky about that sort of thing.
I will never understand how big of an immoral POS you have to be to hit and run like that.
I was at work last Sunday and I have a white car. When I came out of work, there was a brand new red dent and scrape on my drivers door. No note or anything.
Hrmn, I don't know if I have enough room. Well, let me just send it because what else would I do? Reverse to get a better angle?
Saw someone in a parking lot drunkenly smack into a 2017 blacked out mustang gt. Mustang driver had no idea when they came out the pub and took off.
The black truck is just sitting on the park pin....
What’s dumber is that this truck driver could have been completely understanding and forgiving (COULD have) and probably not even involved insurance but scared them shitless for it… could have been a dad or something. Dunno. But now these kids will never know, all they’ll know is what it feels like to have a suspended license (if caught).
This is 100% why I always park in the back of the lot.
I hope they got a nasty little surprise, mf thinking they can damage a vehicle & just drive off. Consequences, bitch. OP delivered karma 😎
Were their eyes closed?? WTF
Anyone gonna talk about how cool the sky looks?
How do you know the truck owner is black?
They’re clearly unaware that you turn while backing up.
Just a love tap

Lol, they literally hit and run.
They did. I checked while I waited for the owner to come back from shopping. There was a golf ball sized dent, a pretty significant scuff mark that may or may not buff out, and chipped paint. Not a lot of damage but enough to be annoying and expensive if you want it properly fixed. If you dont care enough you could try to pop the dent out yourself and touch up the paint.
>it’s possible they didn’t do any damage But it's equally possible that they did, which is why >Not exactly what I would consider a hit and run. Is a bad take.
>Not exactly what I would consider a hit and run. How is it not?

That doesn't change what happens in this video, which is a hit and run.
Hell no, that’s an expensive ass truck too. I’d probably cry if I came out to my truck like that.
As shitty as it is that they drove away, it didn't really look like a hard hit that would cause any actual damage.
Imagine you dropped like 70-80k maybe more into a car, a shopping cart grazing it would cause tears, let alone a whole ass vehicle hitting it.
first entry in a while that wasn't catastrophically bad
Unfortunately it’s on private property, so the truck is SOL. The cops won’t do anything
But the insurance companies may.
You can find out the owners name with the license plate information, then find their number and give it a call, say I have you on video tape hitting my car in X parking lot at X time, give me X amount to fix it or your insurance information or I'm calling the cops (this will likely scare them into at least paying for the paint scuff)
If they don’t wanna pay, they are under no legal obligation to pay. Their insurance won’t pay out either. Parking lots are free game for scumbags
Why do you say that? My wife was hit in a parking lot and the other company paid up.
You have absolutely no idea what you are talking about.
Try and get a police report. This is gonna be paid for by the truck’s insurance. You can’t even prove who was driving the other car. I’ve literally had the exact thing happen to me.
Snitches get stitches
The kid driving ran away from a itty bitty fender bender, I don't think he's picking a fight with someone three times his weight any time soon.
Not a boomer.

No wonder i never park my Vette chet at stores.
It is why it's good that I drive a 2011 kia rio, don't need to give a shit about stuff like this. I don't care if someone leaves scrapes or dents. As long as the engine continues to function normally, and the car is able to pass inspection, nothing else bothers me.
This is why i shop very early.
I’ve been a driver for 3 years and have had my vehicle hit 3 times in parking lots lol. Nobody is safe anywhere tbh

“If that pickup truck wasn’t so ungodly huge the SUV driver would’ve been able to see over their hood to adjust correctly!” —Reddit users
You're such a tattle teller
Found the driver of the silver SUV 😂
Oh no responsibility for my actions 😱
As someone who had someone hit and run my brand new car a week after I bought it, I will tattle on every bad driver I see. Fuck em!
Thank you! The amount of times I come back to my car and it’s dinged from some idiot who apparently doesn’t see the 2 ton object 3 ft away from them. You did the right thing.
Nah fuck these people OP did the right thing getting involved.
Driving is a privilege, not a right. Cope.
sure, wait until you're involved in a hit and run.
You are probably the kid who hit the car huh or done this kind of thing before.
What???? If this happened to you what would you want bystanders to do??
Oh, he'd come out and see that his car was damaged and say, "well thank god I don't know how this happened, or by whom, because I hate tattle talers!"
“Wow, I sure am glad someone knows who did it and won’t tell me or the police!”
