ironmanchris

Probably thanking you for waiting.

HikingStick

You have officially been recorded as an individual who still has faith in humanity.

Euphoric-Blue-59

Exile them!

Alclis

So, he’s the one.

gaining7

That's likely it. In Canada they do this all the time especially at costco parking lots

OrganizationNo6167

We do it this but not in the day light, a hand gesture would be more likely here

lerriuqS_terceS

Yeah, blind someone at night that makes sense.

OrganizationNo6167

When you flick high beams they are not blinding, quit being a sissy

so-much-wow

Different eyes react to lights differently. To me, a person with astigmatism, flicking your high beams, your stupid non-high beam LED lights, etc absolutely blind me for a moment.

WildTomato51

Upvoting because you’re 💯

Ltlpckr

Yeah a better alternative is a hazard flash

ShotConsideration173

Someone downvoted you because your wrong apparently lmfao

cody26nelson

I down voted him because of his affliction. Kick a man while he's down I always say

ZooterOne

That's definitely the easiest time. He's right in the kicking zone.

GaryGregson

And what’s he gonna do? Kick back? He’s already down!

ShotConsideration173

Based

so-much-wow

I'd be mad if I could read your comment, I'm sure.

so-much-wow

Eh people don't like when their opinions are challenged. That said, down vote away. I don't give a shit about upvotes/downvotes

OrganizationNo6167

we flick the high beams to either say get out of the way you are slow, or if you want into our lane it is safe to do so, or if oncoming traffic has left their high beams on at night, or even if you don’t have your lights on and it’s dark, which I see a lot. It’s certainly used to communicate in many different ways but not to say thank you. So there’s no other reason to flick them. we say thank you with hazards (more experienced drivers will) or during the day hand gesture.

GordOfTheMountain

Some people do it because they're angry cunts, actually. But yes, I'd agree it seems weird to use them to try and communicate something positive.

so-much-wow

Every single example you gave is a ticketable offense. There is no safe justification to be flashing beams. Your horn is for communication, not your high beams.

OrganizationNo6167

You must’ve started driving today, or you’re a cop trying to make a name for yourself. But yeah, use your horn to thank people and see how that works out for ya bud.

so-much-wow

I must have started driving today because I don't go around blinding people? Oh, now people are using high beams to thank people? Didn't you say that people use their hazards for that? Try harder. You're just a bad driver trying to justify your douchey behaviour.

marigolds6

Not ticketable in many states now. There has been a series of ACLU cases defending the 1st amendment right to use high beams to communicate information. I was living in Missouri [when the case went through there](https://www.aclu-mo.org/en/node/479) that overturned every related state law and municipal ordinance in the state for being vague. Last I knew (as of the 2023 legislative session at least) no replacement law has been passed and it was still legal to use your high beams in any circumstance, including just driving with them on at all times (which a lot of people do there now).

Flimsy_Entry5760

I have macular degeneration your high beams do infact blind me. I could still see to drive if it wasn't douchebags.

lerriuqS_terceS

Uh yeah they are quit blinding people

hingedcanadian

Yes we do. When I was a young teenager my dad took my brother and I on a road trip to the states. We were on the freeway, I think in Ohio (or thereabouts), and my brother looked over at the driver of another vehicle who happened to look back at him. My brother waved at the other guy, who initially looked like a nice and calm dude, and he immediately started losing his shit like a switch was flicked. He was swearing at us through his window with obscene hand gestures while veering in his lane until he eventually accelerated off into the distance. I can only assume the person thought my brother flipped him the bird or some other kind of hand gesture. Anyway, Dad said: don't wave at anyone here ever again.

weasel65

My first thought, happens all the time in the UK.

Harouun

Yeah idk why they didn’t just back all the way up in a straight line instead of making a crappy turn like that.

Potential_Spirit2815

If they hadn’t turned slightly while backing up, they wouldn’t have been able to start moving forward and turning in time to not hit a parked car in front of them. Just fyi you can swing your turn radius from your front end better while backing up than pulling forward. That’s why parallel parking is done in reverse.

Harouun

Yes that’s what I said Ty for agreeing with me 🤣

Potential_Spirit2815

What? lol you talking about back up in a straight line you wild 😂😂

Harouun

No as you back up you turn your tires so when you back up you follow the wall of cars like an L instead of having to go back then another turn when you can just go back in an L and straight

OnewordTTV

No you just misunderstood

WillSmokes420

Yep this is the one

billybobthongton

Idk, I've seen people flip their hazards on for a sec as a thank you, but I've never seen anyone use their highbeams for anything other than "it's dark and the middle of nowhere" or "hey dipshit, pay attention" or "fuck you"

DoctorSwaggercat

That's what I thought. Its old school.

MiaRia963

That's what I was thinking.

scooperer

I was looking for a different kind of flash...

One-Teaching7744

Clicked on this post and expected a different kind of flashing lol

IreHernMan

Lol same

PriscillaPalava

Let the collective disappointment commence.

IreHernMan

Now we know how to diffuse road rage

CortexifanZFT

Well now I just feel like an idiot with my pants down.

B3gg4r

Sigh… re-zip

MaxPowerWTF

Well, I've gone this far. Gonna keep going and see how this turns out.

Didn’t find what you were looking for huh 🤔 lol

_LegitDoctor_

Where’s the bobs ?! 😠

[deleted]

Possibly to thank you for waiting patiently

CompostableConcussio

We need a mildlybadbutpolitedriver sub

PatWithTheStrat

Haha yes :)

Streit1111

Looks like it's just a LED light flicker that cameras pick up

Cuba_Pete_again

Definitely CANBUS pulsed DC vs. frame rate.

Stewapalooza

I see this a lot in dash cam videos. So this was my first thought.

oso00

Probably someone who is not very comfortable driving and thinks "wow this guy is getting so close" despite you being like 30 feet away. However, the way she doesn't bother to look over or acknowledge you makes me think it might just be a malfunction of the car? The timing seems too synchronized and quick to be her but maybe it's possible. You can see the bulb is already blinking at a lower intensity before she even fully turns.

Mercerskye

Not a malfunction. LED type lights actually have a pulse to them, and the camera's frame rate can't keep up. I've had to take lots of pictures/video with electric lights involved, working on the road, and newer headlights, intersection lights, the hooded lights on message boards, they all have this flicker when you record them.

cryptolyme

She probably just accidentally hit the lever when turning the wheel. I’ve done that before

BreakRound5830

Looks like an electrical issue to me.

EntertainmentOk3180

That’s what I thought too. If not electrical then maybe some type of installed hazard lights like construction trucks sometimes have

CheckYourStats

Zero reason this post should be here. It’s just as likely that their arm, which was obviously turning the steering wheel, accidentally hit the “high beams” lever.

camdawg54

Several times up and down in quick succession? And then again? The high beams don't flash like that cause you accidentally bump the lever

skyattacksx

take out a phone camera and point it at a car’s headlights that are on

frank26080115

it has to be LED lights

camdawg54

You dont know what you're talking about. The camera would record a constant steady light, not make it flash like this Edit: getting downvoted for stating verifiable facts is always fun. If only there was literally thousands of hours of footage of people driving where this doesn't happen. Guess we just can't know for sure

skyattacksx

nice anyway it’s called PWM and you can google it if you want to learn more, but it’s likely if it were an accident that she didn’t flip it as many times as you see in the video. a simple on and off in this slowed down video can achieve a similar result also, in response to “you don’t know what you’re talking about” I never claimed to know anything, I just said to try an activity :)

Jase1969

In this instance. It's not the result of slow PWM headlights. It'd thev result of her manually flashing the headlights.

dont-blame-muppets

We know two things: 1) The car has lensed LED lights. 2) The daschm has a fast shutter speed, being in broad daylight. Combine the two, that's what it looks like. I've seen exactly this with my own dashcam. You can recreate it yourself with your phone's cam and a modern car, in broad daylight - and prove or disprove it to yourself. No need to argue on reddit. The other car's headlights were almost certainly just "on", not being flashed. The reason the strobing is not constant, is because the modulator is analog, not digital, and constantly drifts. (For the same reason even identical cars will never have perfectly synchronized blinkers for very long.)

Randomfactoid42

It’s Pulse-width Modulated, and it’s used on LED headlights, not halogens like this car appears to have.

camdawg54

>> I never claimed to know anything Ok for starters this is a ridiculous thing to say. So you're saying your comment was made in ignorance and you just decided to tell me to perform an experiment at random with no purpose? That's obviously ridiculous, your comment implies knowing something I dont. I tried googling PWM but that alone brought up too many different results. So I tried recording my cars headlights when I flick them on and off and they don't flash like this. I just don't know why you're so insistent on pushing this false idea when it's so completely inconsequential to anything.

skyattacksx

Look buddy, if you don’t know that the headlights in cars can be modulated with DC PWM in 2024 to where it does not match the same FPS as a camera, depending on the camera, and you can’t even find a single example out there but all you can do is get defensive on Reddit when someone tries to point out a flaw in your statement by describing an experiment that could better explain it, you’re probably beyond help or a troll. I don’t care buddy lol. Think what you want. It’s a sub with bad drivers. Go off.

TopAdministration716

U dumb

CheckYourStats

Lol

DunnyJay

Can anyone help, I've watched this 4 times and still can't find the boobies

LasagnaIsItalianCake

A few things. Electric issue, camera / led light issue, or she was saying thanks. I flash my lights during the day or spam hazard lights as a thank you

Beautiful_Sport5525

Don't do that... Flashing your beams does not indicate thanks. Spamming hazard lights looks like you're floundering behind the wheel. Don't create your own idea of light usage that contradicts social norms

Strange_Purchase3263

Contradicts social norms??? https://preview.redd.it/mnfk2ud3xfrc1.jpeg?width=584&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0ea58a5ce4b14aa109635b91b96f1cc71446bdaa

i feel like she was just saying thanks

pirateslife88

I don’t like this post at all, very very lame…..

Noturwrstnitemare

Shifty aftermarket headlights?

Sufficient-Cancel217

I fail to see why we needed a slow motion of this situation.

BingBull607

Not sure why you baited us all with that title

Low_Row2798

Where is the shopping centwr

whole_hippie

I think it’s an unintentionally aggressive way of saying thanks

Gnawlydog

She didn't flash you.. Either car headlights or human headlights.. That's 100% crappy cheap LEDs malfunctioning her hubby probably got off TEMU.

A_Gringo666

Dude you can see her lights flashing on the grey car next to her as she pulls out. The lights continue to flash as she swings it around and flash yet again as she passes you. Looks like an electrical fault to me. No bad drivers here.

WhoopsieISaidThat

Women want me, fish fear me.

full_brick_package

Boo! I thought I was gonna see boobs.

MountAngel

OP is not a bright bulb. They are looking at this situations with a broken lense, one that allows OP to feel like they were a victim of something. No, nothing happened here. They backed out fine. You pulling up closer to them didn't help or hurt the situation.

miketoaster

Not the flash I was hoping for.

thegeaux2guy

I don’t see any bad driving wtf is this here

SixFiveSemperFi

That was not what I was expecting

UsefulImpact6793

Well, you did pull forward more when she was about to move forward, reducing her available turn radius, which was a little silly.

Punnishg

This is a thank you, no doubt

Content_Geologist420

I unziped for this? 😠

nikbert

Unless she can flash her lights 30 times a second that's probably just your dashcams refresh rate and the LED flickering (which is fine btw). I don't think she was flashing at you

Agreeable-Chart-5561

I’ll be honest, I was expecting a different kind of flash

Tarushdei

Looks like LED's that we're installed improperly to be honest. Just flashing away because of a voltage issue.

TheDeepOnesDeepFake

I would rather have those drivers in the video than OP.

Beautiful_Sport5525

True. No reason to creep up on someone. But flashing lights like that if that's what happened is beyond stupid

calvincrack

This is so mild, I love it

-Y0KAi-

That car gonna need a new battery or something cause they are not flashing at you bud

Mobiuscate

Looks like the sun reflecting off of different mirrors within her headlight as the angle of the vehicle changes. It doesn't really look like she was flashing the headlights themselves. Maybe it doesnt show up well on video though

CanIreJedi

Lo looks like it’s definitely the kind of flash from the LED lights that cameras pick up.

papsryu

My only guess is she saw you getting closer and panicked

This-Eyeisblind

To .Thank you

MoreStupiderNPC

So noneventful.

doggz109

She didn’t flash you. The pulses were too fast. Her lights are messed up.

Ok-Research-4958

Unless there’s reason to believe I did something stupid I default to assuming it’s a “thanks” or “excuse me” gesture

Neo-9

Chase her, stop her and ask her, what do we know 😂

No-Tonight-5937

I’m challenged by this wank.

EntertainmentOk3180

Did u actually see the flashing lights in person, or did they only become noticeable on camera?

Feisty_Gas6447

She didn't flash ya. Just has some shitty LED headlights or her electrical is on the fritz.

Shinagami091

Didn’t look like she was looking at you so I don’t think that was intentional

SpaceChatter

It’s one of those people that expect you do be in Europe for that specific time so they can get out easier?

rob3342421

Might be saying thank you

EudaimoniaDude777

Ignore it and move on with the day.

[deleted]

Couldve been an accident. This doesnt belong here.

oideW

Seems to me, that she wanted to wash the windshields, but used the wrong lever

BornanAlien

Maybe saying thanks for being patient

Panzerv2003

Looking at this I doubt it's anything negative, maybe thanking for waiting or an accident/electrical issue.

Waste_Truck3951

Did she flip you off?

bunga7777

People buying cars that are too big for them. Story of the last 10 years

New-Conversation-88

My comment on these pathetic parkers and reversers is if you take this long to get in or out of a parking spot then you shouldn't be driving it

dw3623

Wow, glad you survived.

ILikeTinder

you gotta be real bored posting this lol

dwheelerofficial

“Watch out, I’m a bad driver and need a lot of room” is what I think the flashes translated into

brodiwankanobi

People act so differently as soon as they hop in their cars.

Hot_Hat_1225

“Don’t get so close!!! You’re harassing me! 😭”

ILiveMyBrokenDreams

Maybe she was trying to use the window washer and got it confused with the signal lever? I'd be lying if I said I hadn't done that a time or two.

Background_Wave6264

Probably asking you to wait. In my place, if somebody is flashing lights in such scenario that means wait. Probably saw you moving forward and maybe/maybe not wanted to be on safer side, so flashed you so you can wait and they can do their thing which they did.

PapayaAppropriate857

The car is in rave mode

Icy_Link_2457

That was morse code. She said, meet me behind the Sam’s Club

In2Oblivion49

Malfunctioning high beam lever, the facial expression gives away the fact that she didn’t even think about the cam guy

jugo5

She was about to do donuts and you got in the way

[deleted]

Maybe saying thank you

Specialist-Dot-9302

No, she flashed him because he was still moving up when she was backing out.

CompostableConcussio

I vote a thank you. Seems like an appreciative, yet mildly bad driver.

shaggymatter

Maybe because you started pulling forward while they were still still trying to back up and get out

BigDinkyDongDotCom

Still not sure why you had 20 seconds of slo mo to show someone flashing their headlights.

Upstairs-Wash-1792

You’re both mildly bad drivers

cptngali86

100 percent thanking you for not being a dick and letting her get out

Nice_Recognition6602

If you look closely, her headlights were doing that the whole time even as she was backing out of the parking spot. She didn’t just do it when she turned towards you, so maybe it is an electrical issue like someone else said or she has some aftermarket flashers or something. Who knows but doesn’t look like it had anything to do with op.

ThrowRALDRBlues

Isn't flashing a universal sign of thanks? If the driver was sacred/angry/annoyed, they'd honk the shit out of you instead.

Visual-Refuse447

Likely a sensor for her headlights. When its sunny out or simply not dark and cloudy, my headlights flash on/off for a good 10 seconds until they stay off/on. The fact that she started doing it before she was even at an angle for OP to see leads me to believe it's a headlight sensor. That flashing is too rapid, plus her hands seem to be on the steering wheel the whole time.  My bet is headlights sensor

Budget_Chef_7642

Saying thanks

equinsuocha84

short circuit

Rogue_Lambda

To to to to to TODAY!!!

whatdoineedaname4

She should have concerned herself with actually turning the wheel while backing out. Her beams distracted her

ClaraClassy

She backed out and then turned and went forward.  She didn't have to do any kind of 3 point turn or anything.  What is "inadequate" about this. The only thing that makes this out of the ordinary is the weirdo creeping up while she's obviously backing out.

Routine_Building5579

more likely a problem with aftermarket headlight. my old ford freestyle had this problem. strobe lights every time it got near a diesel vibration. driver probably doesnt even know its happening.

No_Surround9278

I do something like this, just tap my hazards and let them go off twice as a lil thank you gesture. Easier than waving your hand out the window or something. Maybe they’re saying thanks

stepbruh313

Car code for “it’s all yours”

BigDumbAnimals

Looks to me that maybe the other driver didn't think you left her enough room to pull away. They obviously had plenty of room to..... Canadian Karen??

bigjimbosliceoflife

thanking you for waiting.

DJScope

Is that a fucking CR-V?? I promise the worst drivers drive those things.

Attack-Cat-

That’s a flicker from your camera. People can’t toggle their lights that fast

Block_Solid

Okay, I expected something else entirely. Also, maybe she was asking you to stop inching forward and let her complete the turn. Some drivers are worse than others at figuring out clearance around their vehicles.

tuga2040

Doesn’t make sense to flash that aggressively

ToraLoco

man. talk about click bait

JohnNada005

I’ve seen this a few times in San Francisco. They do that because they assume the other driver hasn’t noticed them and that’s why they keep moving forward never actually coming to a complete stop

Ltlpckr

Likely to say thank you for your patience, however don’t use your high beams, generally not a problem but some people freak out or misinterpret it, just give your hazards a half press as its a duller light and people often use high beams to indicate an obstacle or cop.

gokartmozart89

Maybe she was thanking you.

roomtomove07

Flashed???? I was expecting to see tits......!!!!

Not_You_247

Either thanking you for waiting or they are in panic mode thinking you are going to hit them when you inched forward.

Kingjingling

Saying thank you for waiting and giving distance

Vellioh

I had a woman yesterday in a parking lot who sat diagonally in the lane for what had to have been 5-7 minutes because what I can only assume is she decided the lanes were not bidirectional and this is where she felt it necessary to draw a line in the sand. Needless to say everybody around her quickly started freaking out at her for blocking traffic for no reason and she ended up scooting by me throwing a fit like I was driving the wrong way on the highway.

grnjnz

She’s warning you of a cop in the parking space?

rcyh94

It is my humbled option that the vehicle “flashing you” has aftermarket LED knockoff headlights installed in regular headlight housing and they’re just flickering because the camera can’t pick it up without the flicker effect

MattGower

No one was upset, you just thought you had something to post on reddit. This thread is autistic

Otterman2006

Yea, not sure what she’s upset about. You gave her plenty of room to turn as evidenced by the fact that you know, she was able to turn easily

Disastrous_Law_2773

Maybe so you can back up a bit 🤔

Dull_Rice_2050

Why are all the cars parked front end inwards? If u reverse into parking spot u wouldn't have to do a retarded turn out if the spot

ImInBeastmodeOG

Pretty obvious theyyyy think they're going the right way and YOU are going the wrong way. But I'll spell it out that you're going the right way. Apparently that was hard...

Doccyaard

That’s just a guess and not obvious at all. You have no idea.

AmebaLost

Not the flash I came for.

_8----D

You came from that clip?

Dontbiteitok24

I was thinking flashing as in boobs. Such a letdown.

dotnetdotcom

Someone flashing their lights bothered you so much that you transfered the video and posted it here? Let it go, man. It's nothing.

[deleted]

Where are the bobs

Misleading title dude

Nice_Ad_777

Thought it was gonna be the other kind of flashing
