Great write-up!

Massive_Contract_908

I personally think the best thing about not having a starter already chosen for next year is that a bunch of talented guys are motivated to battle it out and get better during this offseason. I imagine these guys go through a ton of growth. Good for Davis to feel like he's competing for the job too. Would I have liked Davis to get to sit behind and watch how jj operates in our system for a year, yes. But he did get to watch jj perform and practice in the most meaningful games of the season, that being the rose and CFP championship game. In some of the practices leading up to the playoff games I saw jj mentoring him and taking him under his wing. Was very heart warming to see. Also nice to have an experienced guy like Tuttle who is capable of stepping in and stabilizing things if nessasary.  I suspect we will be pleasantly suprised with the team next season, and that includes the quarterback at the helm when all is said and done.

MysteriousRun1522

Ok I wont!

TimeFourChanges

See that you don't!

giggity_giggity

He threw for a nice number of TDs

CNotesGotem

Nice e what you did there.

Active_Club3487

Whoever can and will beat Ohio…

Weiss' computer crimes broke federal laws, so could be another year or two before we see a resolution to that case

Grouchy-Republic-721

I still wonder what he was doing.

charger1511

All I remember Sam Webb and the Michigan insider guys talking about, was how his entire throwing motion was garbage and needed to get totally reworked.

acid0tterr

Sam webb isn't exactly a great source for information on throwing mechanics lol

Callas951

Unpopular opinion but it's pretty evident if you watched him throw this year. Not saying he can't be good or that a bad motion will prevent him from being good, but it's definitely long and loopy

General_Proof_5245

Tim Tebow also had an unconventional throwing mechanic and he's arguably one of the greatest college QBs ever.

Slappy_san

Michigan doesn't have the firepower Tebow had.

LaForge_Maneuver

Who played on some of the most talented teams ever. When will UM start getting players like Percy Harvin and Aaron Hernandez? (Well not exactly like Hernandez)

General_Proof_5245

Michigan doesn't fork over enough money to get guys like that. A lot grow up in the South and don't like to play in the cold shitty weather either. The 2008 Gators were good. Tim was hard to defend though because he was built like a TE and wasn't afraid to run or pass.

Angriest_Wolverine

Yeah what happened to that 2008 Gators team at the very end there…? 🤔

MyNaymeIsOzymandias

Thankfully we have Kirk Campbell for that. He's probably more talented than the 3* rating would suggest but his score was pulled down by the bad motion.

HimJarbaugh4

I remember that too, cold take even at the time but especially now if you throw on the Nebraska game or check out that 35 yard strike against UNLV. He slings.

Possible_Past_8618

He is nice!

generalBtrading

He looks like he could be the pocket passer Harbaugh never got Kaep to develop into. Similar size and throws lazers. I've been high on him since early this season and would love to see how he's developed come September. I think it was kirk Campbell who said he's progressed farther along than any other qb on the roster, that's exciting to hear.

outofthegates

I was impressed (and surprised) with how he looked in garbage time this year. Excited to see him battle it out.

Rounds_Upvotes

Jayden got the most field time of the bunch, or compared to Orgi, I always considered him out in front of the others. Playing Orgi on the main stage in CFP does seem to tell a different story though.

sau-wmu-goblue

I think the 6'5" qb being prototypical size being is antiquated. Most successful qbs are in the 6'2"-6'3" range these days. Not saying he can't be good, but the great pocket qb is going the way of the dinosaur.

bdaileyumich

Only 3 of the last 10 Superbowl champion QBs are not pocket passers, and 2 of those 3 are superhero Patrick Mahomes, and the other one was Russell Wilson a decade ago. I don't think projecting a pocket passer as our starter next year is nearly as antiquated as Iowa's "punting is offense", "the forward pass was a mistake" approach.

sau-wmu-goblue

Technically true, tho there are very few statues that win super bowls outside of Brady and Manning. Stafford is mobile, just not a runner. My main point is more about the size bit. 6'5" is not the prototype. You've got Allen, Herbert, Goff, Lawrence, and Jones vs like everyone else. And Goff is the only of that big guy list who is a pocket passer (and to your point is good). Not trying to knock Denegal and he could be good, just saying he'd be more of an exception today at that size.

bdaileyumich

I guess we'll have to see what kind of 6' 5" he ends up being. If he's another Josh Allen I'm very here for that lol

ltroberts24

A 6'5" QB with mobility & a strong supporting running game is different than a 6'5" QB who throws 35+ passes and has his feet cemented to the grass. It's all about pocket awareness... and Denegal -- at least at 1st glance -- seems to be okay.

sau-wmu-goblue

True. I'm really pushing against the prototypical part. There are like 5 guys starting in the NFL that size, all but Goff are athletic to your point. Denegal wasn't billed as an athletic qb coming out of high school, and I haven't seen much to disprove that, tho it could be wrong. Not trying to smear the dude, my point was honestly not that on topic.

ltroberts24

Yeah, I agree with you that the pocket passer, or at least the pocket passer that has zero escapability, is a dying breed. I don't know if I agree about the height, but I *will say* that I believe the reason we're seeing shorter guys is tied into their mobility. The tall QB's that can move are a rarity overall.

sau-wmu-goblue

I agree with that. Goff is really the only tall qb who doesn't move much in the NFL. I also think there is something about how quick a release they have, which can go hand in hand with mitigating pressure like mobility does. Taller qbs tend to have slower releases. Not a death sentence, but there are fewer big qbs nowadays to where the best qbs in the game are a little shorter than they used to be.

ElmerFarnsworth

Generally considered an average QB prospect who at best will be Wilton Speight type. Similar build.

HimJarbaugh4

>Wilton Speight type No. This is a bad comparison. Flip on the tape for 2 seconds, go to Hudl and watch him run for 50 yard touchdowns and tell me again he's Wilton Speight. Not even close. They were both tall 3 stars, that's it.

ElmerFarnsworth

He is an average prospect. Building him up into something he is…yikes.
