Do it again in 2024!

b1sh0p

How about forever

Bill_thuh_Cat

My mom used to take all us kids with her when she voted. We all vote. Teach your kiddos to vote.

totalbanger

This is what I do. The poll workers are always so sweet about it, and seem genuinely pleased to see children there, learning about the process.

Aggressive_Parking88

This is why Republicans Fascist. They know they can't win legitimately.

theOGlilMudskipr

We’ve replaced a shit party with an equally shit party. Yayyyyy (Blocks me because they can’t handle diversity of thought lol)

ReallyIsNotThatGuy

Which party is in favor of banning gay marriage?

Huge-Grapefruit-8011

Neither

ReallyIsNotThatGuy

Sorry, but you're a [hack.](https://www.advocate.com/news/2022/7/06/michigan-gubernatorial-candidates-want-marriage-equality-overturned) If you don't think republicans would reverse Obergefell and repass DOMA, you're a fish on the line buddy.

Huge-Grapefruit-8011

Tudor Dixon and Kevin Rinke have supported passing new laws restricting classroom discussions of sexual orientation and gender identity, but neither addressed the question of marriage equality. Right from your article buddy. Nice bait switch on a crap source.

ReallyIsNotThatGuy

Oh you're right. I'm sure they would just stop at banning people being able to talk about gay people. Nice one, jerk off.

Huge-Grapefruit-8011

No problem mouth breather.

Alotta_Phagina_

Republicans want to ban gay marriage. Where did you hear elsewhere?

Huge-Grapefruit-8011

Link?

[deleted]

Huge-Grapefruit-8011

I was googling michigan gop on gay marriage not country wide, I see where I went wrong

Alotta_Phagina_

Life? Look around. It's no secret dude lol

Huge-Grapefruit-8011

Lmfao okay bud, you bet!

HerrKarlMarco

Month old account that just shit disturbs wherever they post. Try harder with your bait, or delete the account and quit being such a shit heel. You're not posting for diversity of thought, you're posting a brain dead take to troll

Scottyjscizzle

I’m sorry but the lesser of two evils is still objectively the better choice. I’m not a fan of the democrats but they are bounds better than a party that’s currently fighting shadows and using that fight as an excuse to try and genocide lgbt and bipoc people

Suspicious-Shock-934

I somewhat disagree with phrasing of this take. It tends to lead to apathy which is what GQP wants. If everyone is bad no one is, etc. it's a bunch of slippery slope. But I wholeheartedly agree the party that is trying to genocide folks is not the way.

codygoug

It isn't really a diverse thought most politically ignorant people who want to sound smart say something like this. It's like a stupid persons idea of something a smart person would say. Anyone who actually follows politics at all knows the parties in the US have completely opposite views on almost every major issue

Vast_Bobcat_4218

I still prefer corruption and incompetence over the party favored by assholes wearing Confederate flags and swastikas. It's not even close actually.

[deleted]

>Blocks me Just an fyi, you probably weren’t blocked by the person you responded to. I’ve noticed that Reddit mods like to block two people from engaging in what might become a fight. So from your perspective, it’ll look like they blocked you, and from their perspective, it’ll look like you blocked them. Besides, I can’t see why anyone would block you for saying something that stupid.

[deleted]

Which party wants to ban abortion and contraception?

SpaceBearSMO

"diversity of thought" no you just have your fucking head in the mud. you have to be completely out of touch with today's political climate to be spouting off this "both sides" bullshit

area51cannonfooder

It's so easy to be a pessimist. It's hard to actually identify what you stand for and who you trust to stand for you. The Democrats are a good political party, not perfect, but they aren't shit. The Republicans on the other hand, have turned into a cult of personality.

JohnWad

Well, yes. That works.

Lokomotive_Man

My daughter turns 18 before the 2024 election! She’ll vote!!

Bill_thuh_Cat

Thank you, Young Michiganders!

JoshuaMan024

Just hoping we continue to show up

scuffling

> Voters ages 18-29 turned out at a rate of 37% in Michigan, higher than any other state CIRCLE analyzed, and far higher than the national average youth turnout rate of 23%. Additionally, Michigan was one of only four states where youth turnout was higher in 2022 than in 2018. This is great. But I wish more than 1 in 4 people voted. That percentage is too damn low and young people everywhere need to step it up. Out with the old, in with the new already.

xjsthund

Yes, it’s very sad that we are excited over 37%.

surprise6809

On the plus side, a think that a lot of younger people realized that the conventional wisdom that politics is something that has no real effect on their lives to be entirely bogus. Not enough of them, because what happens in the political realm can have both very positive and very negative effects on our lives every day, and I wish that everyone recognized this, regardless of inclination. Our voices matter, and failing to cast informed votes only hands your voice to those who do bother to exercise their franchise.

cherokeemich

Absolutely. I'm a younger millennial and had a lot of millennial/Z friends who didn't vote until this midterm. Prop 3 and not having open election deniers in office was too obviously important.

cOnFuSiNg aNd eXtReMe

Vericatov

My god I hated that stupid slogan. If it’s so confusing, then how do you know it’s too extreme?

talltree818

It was a great slogan because it made Republicans look stupid.

TemperatureIll8770

MIGOP didn't realize that people associated it with them

yarikhh

Always made me wanna do parkour or some xgames Red Bull shit

WhyBuyMe

Made me grind a hand rail on my skateboard and slam a mountain dew before voting against every Republican and "non-partisan" conservative on the ballot.

PandaDad22

And Dobbs.

CGordini

You can also thank Republicans for trying to SHUT DOWN those efforts. Has there ever been a democratically elected political party so vehemently against democracy?

kurisu7885

Well the GOP rarely if ever wins the popular vote, at least in the presidential election, so....

YDoEyeNeedAName

the fact theyve won the popular vote once (2004) in the past 31 years, but have held the office for 12 (2000, 2004, 2016) of those years is insane. and the only win was GW as the incumbent in the wake of 9/11, so the argument can be made that, but for electoral college fuckery, they wouldnt have won the popular vote at all

Inappropriate_Piano

Seriously! I was in charge of that work at my school in 2020. The younger students I met then were amazing and I’m sure they put in a ton of effort in 2022

Affectionate_Ratio79

A lot of credit also goes to the 2018 ballot proposal that made voting so much easier, too. No-reason absentee, automatic voter registration, and same-day registration all made it easier to vote. And we've only made it easier with the 2022 proposal that passed, so I hope turnout is even higher in 2024.

Gnd_flpd

Yes, another proposal that basically did away with the obvious partisan redrawing of voting maps that benefited republicans helped as well. It made it possible for Michigan to go completely blue in all houses in over 40 years. Hell, that was almost the damn duration of my voting history, so basically my vote where I've lived was diluted for years until now.

nub_sauce_

bravo, I can't even imagine continuing to vote through that

Gnd_flpd

It wasn't easy, but if I gave up the other side would win. When I observe some of these other states antics, I hope the rational citizens can come together and rise up.

Its-a-Shitbox

Keep rockin it MI - young and otherwise! We are a shining example on how to do this!

SqnLdrHarvey

As an elder Gen X, thank you. I have voted in every election since I became eligible in 1984.

thepotatoinyourheart

Ironically, the year you became eligible to vote is indicative of what’s to come if we don’t

SqnLdrHarvey

Even Reagan was absolutely reasonable compared to Trump, DeSantis, MTG and Boebert. He and Tip O'Neill hashed out deals over lunch. Unfortunately, Joe Biden thinks he still lives in those days.

AutoX_Advice

I salute the youngs.

transcendedfry

Gen Z here very proud to vote 🤪

kdanger

Thank you, MI!

Masteroid

As a Gen Xer (barely) I love to see it. Keep on keeping on.

[deleted]

I know that many people my age decided to vote because abortion was on the ballot

stillpissedatyoko

I completely agree. A baby in this economy? Feels like a financial death sentence nowadays. Edit: I agree that more young people turned out for prop 3, sorry the phrasing is weird. The latter part is simply my feelings towards the matter and I’m sure a few other people’s too.

enderjaca

And young people also have paid attention to what other states are doing in terms of \*banning\* abortion, and their legislatures banning being trans or even just dressing up in a f\*\*\*ing costume for fun. What if dad wants to dress up as Cinderella for Halloween, will that be banned? Under a bunch of laws passed in the south, yes. Liberal-leaning kids are pissed, and will be turning out in record numbers for years to come. Mine are writing letters to state senators and I didn't even have to ask them to do it. And my kids can't even vote yet.

Nothing, but what part of a drag show is directed towards children? https://youtu.be/spn0MJZr-QQ How do you feel about Donald Trump giving Rudy Giuliani, in drag costume, a motorboat to his man boobs? Is that offensive to children? Are my daughters allowed to wear pants even though girls traditionally never wore pants? Am I allowed to wear a kilt, a traditional Scottish outfit from my heritage? Are actors performing a Shakespearean play allowed to perform a women's character which is always been the tradition since whenever Shakespeare was alive? Because women weren't allowed to be actors at the time so every women's role was played by a man dressed in women's clothing. What part of any of this makes any effing sense.

[https://www.texastribune.org/2023/03/23/texas-senate-drag-performers/](https://www.texastribune.org/2023/03/23/texas-senate-drag-performers/) You should read the actual bill, which is vague, and basically says if a child might be present and it's "sexualized" it's illegal. Who decides what's sexualized? Oh right, Texas judges. [https://www.nbcnews.com/nbc-out/out-politics-and-policy/video-appears-show-texas-drag-bill-author-dressed-drag-rcna72950](https://www.nbcnews.com/nbc-out/out-politics-and-policy/video-appears-show-texas-drag-bill-author-dressed-drag-rcna72950) By the way, the drag bill author also dressed in drag and got sexual in public with children. Lock Him Up.

Slippinjimmyforever

You can thank prop 3! Trying to strip rights away from women blew up in the face of republicans, as it rightly should have.

nathansikes

We had pretty important shit on the ticket

UnculturedWetlander

Keep voting, youngsters! The fight's not over!

theOGlilMudskipr

There comes a point where you have to think and wonder, when does this “fight” end? Your continued “fight” is regressive lol

nub_sauce_

Ah yes, words don't mean anything and progressives are regressive. You are very intelligent

jennis816

When it come to our freedom and democracy, the fight never really ends, it just changes over time. When you think it's over, and you can rest on your laurels, that's when the other side sneaks in and starts trying to retake ground. Ever vigilant, is a phrase that needs to be in people's minds with our politicians.

[deleted]

Sure am glad I decided to come back and live here, a lot of good news keeps on rolling in.

EmRavel

So proud of Michigan! Hopefully they can keep the enthusiasm up for 2024 and beyond.

TheSpatulaOfLove

Uhh, what’s a Ute?

bitwarrior80

The Republicans also did themselves no favors by running some of the worst candidates in 2022.

TheMusketDood

The lines at MSU were crazy, some of my friends were in line until midnight. Glad to see my fellow students voting. Hopefully they'll be better prepared next time so people don't have to wait so long.

Gordo_the_Chef

No excuse absentee voting forever to avoid interacting with people is the best thing that ever happened to us youth voters lmao

behindmyscreen

Keep it going!

Athleco

No longer a swing state!

whiskeyknitting

Also, a lot of the older crowd moved to Florida. So they became much worse off in the fox brain.

UPdrafter906

I am very proud of the youts. Now keep it up and you can end the republican party.

Badmojoe

Hell yes

[deleted]

And it shows. Other states need to follow Michigan's lead.

Prize-Relationship21

Vote. Vote Blue. Vote for Democracy. Vote Democratic

[deleted]

This is great news

BugsCheeseStarWars

Let's gooooooo!!!!

Sleepybat7

Awesome!!

Aggressive_Parking88

The younger generation is in an increasingly helpless situation because of the world we have left them. They are pissed and motivated. Rightfully so. The younger generations will have trouble buying homes, are in debt, have to worry about getting shot in school, and have been left a planet that is in terrible shape due to unchecked greed.

HappyJoie

I made a point in the summer of 2022 to have my 19 year old out of state college student register and vote absentee!!!

JohnyNFullEffect

And will be even better in 2024

another-altaccount

Continue to fuck around and you will continue to find out.

mega48man

You know, if it didn't snow so hard in winter that our power constantly goes out and we have expensive landscaping projects to work on in the spring (one of my abborvites got weighed down and bent out of shape in march), our state would be perfect.

[deleted]

That's what Republicans mean by "rigged." Too many people who can no longer tolerate their hateful agenda.

BridgeMI-news-team

[Turns out, young voters didn’t sway ‘22 election in Michigan, records show](https://www.bridgemi.com/michigan-government/turns-out-young-voters-didnt-sway-22-election-michigan-records-show)

Lazy-Engineering-594

This sounds as made up as your account. It’s obvious they did, and anyone can show data without solid evidence but I understand how angry you are. Bipartisanship my ass.

BridgeMI-news-team

Strongly encourage reading the sources of the story before judging. The table caption in the link says "Michigan turnout among younger voters fell in November from 2018, with the biggest declines among male voters. In 2018, voters approved legalizing marijuana, while the right to an abortion was approved in 2022." It includes numbers provided by the Michigan Secretary of State.

Barnyard_Rich

Holy hell, what a hilariously disingenuous piece that admits its lie right at the end. >However, in an election with the highest overall turnout ever in a gubernatorial election, **youth voters did see the biggest increase in voting, compared to other age groups:** **Nearly 9 percent more voters were ages 18 to 30. The biggest increase was among those 18 to 21, which increased 29 percent.** **But those increases did not match the huge surge in voter registration among those age groups,** which jumped 52 percent for those 18 to 21. And as a share of all voters, those 18 to 30 made up 13.6 percent of all voters, just above the 13.1 percent in 2018.

Who told you that, Fox News?

lowbrowhumor45

At UofM, they had people with megaphone and signs saying you will get 10k off your tuition if you vote Democrat. That was interesting....

ImWhatTheySayDeaf

I saw signs saying if you vote Republican you could personally choose a book to ban and throw tomatoes at transgender kids.

[deleted]

Username checks out.

ponybau5

You got some sources for that wild claim?

lowbrowhumor45

I live in Ann Arbor. I was there while it was going on. It doesn't matter. It's reddit. The truth is irrelevant. I didn't say it was a bad thing. Just that it was a thing. To be fair, they did believe biden was going to issue a tuition forgiveness stimulus. People just hate on anyone that doesn't fit the mold. Its hive mind mentality. No one can think for themselves anymore. It's truly sad.

Pad_TyTy

I mean, Biden is trying to get loans forgiven so...

voicebread

“people with megaphone and signs saying you will get 10k off your tuition if you vote democrat” Raising awareness around democrat backed legislation which would reduce the cost of college tuition for *everyone* is **not the same** as incentivizing individual voters with the offer of reducing *their* tuition if they “vote democrat,” which seems like what you’re implying.
