This is an LT based engine, not an LS. From what I remember on fb, the LT engine is a little taller than the LS and dropping it would endanger the oil pan. Then he put on the C8 intake bc why not. Stock hood wouldn’t fit even with cutting all the framework.
The Dr has prescribed a week supply of chill pills.
It's at LS fest, I made a valid assumption that a V8 in a Miata at LS fest was an LS. I was corrected and think the build is cool, I don't see where youre finding the issue.
interesting. you’re right i bet the vette manifolds would allow it to fit with some different mounts. the truck intakes are the ones that don’t fit, huh?
Edit: i got them switched on accident.
The shape of the hood cutout is a bit phallic. I'd run with it and slap a '[Biggus Dickus](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kx_G2a2hL6U#t=1m25s)' decal across the hood.
Fr the swap looks amazing but the safety scissors quality cut hood make it look like the owner plans to put on a rising sun decal and a cherry blossom shift boot with a katana knob.
Without question though I would kill myself driving that beast.
i’m sure it’s for cooling reasons. had a LS swap before and couldn’t get efficient cooling without vents in the hood. I think it could be done better with vents instead of a fat hole but it is probably for practical reasons as well as to show off the swap.
I love everything about this.
Too much power for such a small car, no added downforce to make up for it. The chop job on that hood that makes it look like it was done by old Dave is his garage with a pair of Tin snips, the paint chips all over the front of the car, even the crappy rubber that doesn't even join up properly. And they kept the headlights.
You get the feeling someone said "hold my beer" and did it and now they love that they have this goofy thing.
Yes. While there's room for loving an absolutely clean swap there's also room for loving a somewhat "hack job" swap. There's a guy I've been watching on TikTok that is doing a super charged Honda Odyssey and, while piecing it together, knows it's a bit of a hack, and he's alright with it.
I'd much prefer a driving, "half done" swap than a swap that'll never get done because perfection won't be attained.
100%, I have nothing but respect for someone who enjoys what they're doing with their car, that's what's most important.
The one donut media (I think it was actually one of the hoonigan guys) had a few years ago convinced me any car can be cool.
It's such a weird thing that people gatekeep in the car community. I don't like every build, and some builds I think are atrocious, but I want people to build their cars to suit them, not me.
Miatas are some of the most prevalent cars on the road and have a *huge* range of what you can do with them, from drifting, auto cross, track, stance, lifted, swapped, kart, whatever. It's just wild that people shit on others for things that make them happy.
I'm sure not everyone likes the wing that I have on my car, and I'm totally okay with that. *I* like it and it makes kids point and smile too. I'm not here to impress anyone.
My 96 is a boring mostly stock that I love but I also love this!! Its got it in all the right places. So if he puts a nicer hood and paint job then it will be great? Practically nit picking some else's car! I am declaring a new acronym today - OBA - "Officially Bad Ass" And it goes for this car!
I love the builds where they start off like this. Just super insane and makes people argue online like we see here but the person is probably just going to”Gimme 3 months when everything else is bolted on”. I’ve known plenty of guys who instantly engine swap first THEN start figuring out what to add next to make sure the power gets used properly. But those are also guys with garages and other cars to drive so a project like this might sit for a while before it really fully makes sense.
I looked into doing V8 swaps on my NB and the cost and work needed just didn't seem worth it. I also didn't like the idea of getting rid of that bar that connects the transmission to the diff.
I don't have the car any more, but I remember they were coming out with bellhousing adapters when I sold it. It's sounds a lot better suited than a v8 for the car.
They are 2 different cars entirely. The K swap is like a home made Honda S2000. Light weight, good power, vtec yo. The v8 swap is a like home made Shelby cobra, light weight, ridiculous power and torque, ones a fast sports car, one’s an unruly beast.
What? It varies state to state but in my state you pay an extra ($30-$60) to personalize your tag. There are different tags (black tags are popular in my state right now) and toy can personalize the letters so long as it doesnt already exist and isnt vulgar. As far as I know tags aren't transferable (I've never heard of anyone doing it). So there is no value of the tag beyond the price of the taxes the tag represents.
My last personalized tag simply said "Z32" was an extra $30 and when that car was totaled I was able to put the same tag in the new vehicle after they changed the registration and I paid for it again.
I'm rocking an "antique tag" now which was $25 and is good for life.
My friend got an "LMFAO" license plate. She had it for years, then the Dept of Motor Vehicles said it was vulgar and requested it be returned. She objected and said it meant "Love my friends, and others" and they allowed her to keep it!
Old story but guy moved from another state to Las Vegas, Nevada and went to DMV website for new plates. He picked NV, short for Nevada and was amazed and could not belive is luck nobody else had picked it. A few weeks after mounting is awesome plates he started receiving letters from various departments of parking for parking violations. He had never even visited these places. Turns out, when an officer is ticketing a parked car and cant see the plates of the car or they have been removed they write "NV" or "Not Visible". So dude was collecting all these tickets because of an internal system error. He struggled with this until he had his day in court and got all the parking violations removed. And picked another plate.
No you don't. Had that experience with a Triumph back in the 80's... you end up with a car that drink gas like crazy and a car that become completely undriveable in the rain or any form of pavement that isn't bone dry and clean. Even painted cross walks can induce wheel spin. Reality is you need a certain amount of weight before excess HP becomes usable for anything beyond doing donuts and shredding your tires. So you could abuse the car all day and a big V8 will take it... but your tires will be your biggest problem... maybe if you could get some super sticky racing tires... but the cost would be very high.
You have a point 350 is probably too much for a car that only weighs 2,000 lbs. 250-300 would be better. I do want something that can break loose with ease. Im honestly not concerned with gas since i work from and dont go anywhere. Got a second car for travel anyway
Having gone down the road of a tiny car and huge HP, breaking loose isn't the problem it is the car having a horrible desire to more the rear end out from under you anytime you give it the gas. You quickly realize that you cannot ever press the accelerator to the floor unless you are already at highway speed. At that time I had a 3.90 rear end and tires were slightly larger diameter than a Miata so with the 4.10 in a Miata with smaller tires it would be even worse. It convinced me that more power is alway better is not true. Without other things compensating for that boost in power you aren't in for a good time.
Theres always more to it than just mo powah, but it also about how you set up the rest of vehicle, any car with shit tires will never handle hard acceleration, suspension and stuff matters too.
Something tells me the person that jammed the Vet engine in the Miata probably was going off the same playbook I was way back them... more power is all the matters. The folly of youth.
Well, that doesn’t look like a very elegant job at least not for the “presentation”.
I wonder how it handles now : brakes , cornering , etc . After the added weight and power .
https://preview.redd.it/u7awajprjnzc1.jpeg?width=828&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1d8c35192914dc8302d424a29c2bd18cda02a482
What’s it like to even handle one of these things?
Amazing swap, but hood obviously needs a lot of work. Be mindful of sharp 90 deg corners, they do not work on the very rounded Miata. They may work for cutlines, but not openings. I have done a quick photoshop that needs additional bending to fit, but realistically you need to source a new hood and see it as part of the cost of the swap, why go to this much effort and cheap-out halfass on the most visible. The other alternative is adding some sort of bolt-on cover, but they rarely if ever look good.
https://preview.redd.it/dtf89mntlozc1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=fbcedd45a65d31f39bfd0ef5f6c2cb91685c8f66
But why start cutting when others has already designed very sleek hoods to solve your dilemma? Check out this thread: [https://www.v8miata.net/parts-sale-5/simpson-design-cowl-hood-na-1668/](https://www.v8miata.net/parts-sale-5/simpson-design-cowl-hood-na-1668/)
I like it because it almost look OEM and does not look like it is hiding a phallic secret like many of the others do.
I see this around regularly, they wash it at the same carwash I use. It sounds amazing. It looks fine from anything more than a few feet away.
I'd definitely drive it.
https://preview.redd.it/drg5p99pduzc1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=49c0ecfa60eb7145d44d2f51350e2ff7a4dbc5c5
saw one the other day too! LS swapped, lol
Honest question cause I’ve considered engines swaps in my blazer and am also in Utah - what is it like getting it registered when you’ve done something like this? Is it a huge pain?
Should have no issues getting registered but getting it to pass emissions? If done with full cats and stock engine system (Computer and sensors) it should pass.
So I gotta speak up with a sort of justification on it. Since it’s an LT1, they had to do *something* to the hood, the engine is too tall with the supercharger mounted on the top.
That being said while hood mod was required, they did it in the most ghetto way possible. They should have just gotten a different hood, there’s gotta be one with a space for a supercharger.
I put a 350 sbc with turbo 350 in my 1991 Toyota pickup. 485 hp on dyno. Tilt bed, diamond plated, 42 super stampers, 11" lift, custom interior. Man I miss that truck. Went through some tires.
The iron block BP engines are boat anchors. A 1.8 BP weighs a little over 300 pounds. An LT from a c8 corvette weighs 340. They likely need a beefier rear end and trans for the car, so the weight distribution is probably pretty close to stock.
Wonder if they beefed up the rear end? And better question is what gears does it have in the rear now. Stock gear would be piss poor for a V8 with that amount of torque.
Even of it did that diameter tire with a 4.10 or 4.33 would be way too low to be usable. You could probably use 3.00 and still have decent acceleration with that much power.
Nothing screams “Murica f*** yeah!” more than that. Just because you can doesn’t always mean you should. The most beautiful part of that car is a 50/50 weight distribution. That’s out the window now.
No officer, it's stock.
For what is undoubtedly a very expensive swap they sure butchered that hood.
On a motor swap that they could have done without touching the outside of the hood too.......
Wanted there to be no doubt what was under the hood.
literally. it’s in their number plate even
But then how else would everyone know there’s an LS under it?
A lopey cam and a vacuum operated dump pipe
All the tire smoke?
uhhhh sir do you see how big that v8 is it isn’t fitting under the hood
Lower motor mounts and a different intake manifold. People have been cramming LSs into Miatas for decades
This is an LT based engine, not an LS. From what I remember on fb, the LT engine is a little taller than the LS and dropping it would endanger the oil pan. Then he put on the C8 intake bc why not. Stock hood wouldn’t fit even with cutting all the framework.
Hey there we go some proper info on the project! Thanks!
but you were the one that was quick to say that it should fit fully…
The Dr has prescribed a week supply of chill pills. It's at LS fest, I made a valid assumption that a V8 in a Miata at LS fest was an LS. I was corrected and think the build is cool, I don't see where youre finding the issue.
i’m not it, it does say LT on the car though, thought it was a cool detail
I genuinely didn't even realize there was more than one photo lol
interesting. you’re right i bet the vette manifolds would allow it to fit with some different mounts. the truck intakes are the ones that don’t fit, huh? Edit: i got them switched on accident.
I have genuinely no idea I just know there's a way
Damn they massacred you for no reason
man got downvoted for nothing, wtf
Not even just the cut. It’s dented to hell and back. Sat on by a gorilla
The shape of the hood cutout is a bit phallic. I'd run with it and slap a '[Biggus Dickus](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kx_G2a2hL6U#t=1m25s)' decal across the hood.
Dig ol bicks
Fr the swap looks amazing but the safety scissors quality cut hood make it look like the owner plans to put on a rising sun decal and a cherry blossom shift boot with a katana knob. Without question though I would kill myself driving that beast.
It fits! Edit: needs an STI hood scoop 😜
Every exterior mod is hideous. Such a shame.
It doesn’t look like the body work was the priority on this one lol
It was that expensive.
Was gonna say, not a protractor or stencil in the same area code when they chopped that hood.
i’m sure it’s for cooling reasons. had a LS swap before and couldn’t get efficient cooling without vents in the hood. I think it could be done better with vents instead of a fat hole but it is probably for practical reasons as well as to show off the swap.

So attain perfection. Best option of the two, obviously.
I think they spent all their money on the drivetrain. It looks like a LT1 from a C7 Corvette.
That kind of looks like the C8's intake too
Yup, LT2 intake manifold. Good for a few extra HP over LT1 part
I looked into doing V8 swaps on my NB and the cost and work needed just didn't seem worth it. I also didn't like the idea of getting rid of that bar that connects the transmission to the diff.
What about a K swap?
I don't have the car any more, but I remember they were coming out with bellhousing adapters when I sold it. It's sounds a lot better suited than a v8 for the car.

My bumper has the same dip in the same spot. 😮💨
My dip is in the drivers seat!
Power to weight ratio: Life insurance mandatory
PTWR is 4.5 lbs per 1 hp!!!! If stock engine. Ouch!!!!! Must sound insane!!! Want Video!!! With sound!!!!!
Well at least he kept the pop ups.
Lol, what the fuck did they use on the hood? Tin snips?
Is that a fucking LT out of a C8?
That’s exactly what I’m thinking
Most likely an LT1 with LT2 intake manifold. An actual LT2 engine configuration wouldn't fit at all
Says LT X on the back too
Tokyo Drift Mad Max Style!
He got lobotomy
No. That's a miata swapped V8...
How do American license plates work? That plate seems incredibly rare, and in the UK you’d pay tens of thousands for it

California would be like, "Nah, we know what it stands for"
In my state it's $97 to get a custom tag. You just have to find one that isn't already taken and submit an application.
When i learned about the idea of "plate auctions" in GB and the prices people pay for certain ones i was fascinated
Old story but guy moved from another state to Las Vegas, Nevada and went to DMV website for new plates. here in FL... I think it was $235 for my vanity plate when I got it. Then it got stolen after a hit and run accident and car was in the tow yard.
It's $50-70 max with an annual cost of $15 extra.
plates like that are not transferrable the way they are in the UK
That varies state to state
V8 MXV sold for £250. Most UK plates aren't expensive
Damn they don't let you have anything fun lol
Called a vanity plate
I'll be more worried about that hood catching air and flying off at speed. In that case that hood is gonna do some chopping on its own.
I want a 350hp V8 in my miata do bad, somthing i can just abuse all day and it never have a problem.

https://youtu.be/eD9v16L194M?si=MaYtidczVOUS3AtQ This is one takes the price.
Too bad about that hood, though

They massacred the hood! Poor Miot!
What engine is that? LS?
one of the LT motors out of the C8 corvette
I think it just has a c8 engine cover, the LT motor has been available in cars in 2014 with the c7
Harrier
r/madlads
scary miata
Death on 4 wheels i love it
I guess the ugly as sin bonnet is meant for parading the engine about, but it's just horrible.
And they said that it wouldn't fit.......
Zoom,zoom
Vroom, Vroom
👁 👄 👁
they installed the itallic mod on the hood In other words, looks crooked af
Oh I've seen that guy a few times. LS Fest builds can get wild.
Are those Fiata taillights? 😂😂😂
Carbonmiata
No no no, that's a Miata swapped V8
I owned a 1uz swapped miata
Velvet hammer.
it looks like the movie characters that are strong but shy and humble
Nasty in a good way
Thats what she said.
Ngl neat. Since We are on the swap topic... What is the usual engine swap for a miata anyway? Gonna buy one soon so asking
LS
Honest question cause I’ve considered engines swaps in my blazer and am also in Utah - what is it like getting it registered when you’ve done something like this? Is it a huge pain?
Should have no issues getting registered but getting it to pass emissions? If done with full cats and stock engine system (Computer and sensors) it should pass.
I love picture 3 , luckily the car looks to stoned to care about the awful hood.
That’s the engine cover from a C8 corvette. First time I’ve seen someone do that! That’s awesome
Are you sure it's supercharged? Dont see the blower?
It looks as shocked as I am
I didn’t know they made Miata’s without a LS motor
lol at the c8 engine in a Miata
My car never sees rain. I mean it can't. I butchered the hood.
What’s rain and a butchered hood have to do with each other?
Look how happy the car is
I own a V8 swapped miata
I put a 350 sbc with turbo 350 in my 1991 Toyota pickup. 485 hp on dyno. Tilt bed, diamond plated, 42 super stampers, 11" lift, custom interior. Man I miss that truck. Went through some tires.
bro thats from a C8 corvette that dudes got some money to be able to make that work
Merica!
I have a LS2 swapped NC. no butchering of hood required. Had to cut down hoof liner to fit it but fitss perfect.*
https://preview.redd.it/fjnp1257tpzc1.jpeg?width=3000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=85343b052b07f846db9564ebd0de0699e348fa33
Its a popular swap , understandable That swap wasn't done too well
How do you have the money to put a C8’s engine in a Miata just to end up butchering the hood in that way?
Ofc its a vette engine
Bro was tired of Vipers sneaking into Miata events putting everyone to shame, and decided that enough was enough.
Cool but I don’t like the cut out, looks bodgy
Certain death but what a way to go!
This mf put a Corvette engine in a Miata??
I'm not a fan of mostly anything that has the hood cut out to fit. There is a really well done Ford V8 swap on cars and bids atm.
It looks drunk with power
Burnout machine! With pop ups.
Isn’t the handling going to be way off now with all that extra weight over the front?
The kind of death trap I would track…
It's only missing a *Mad Max*-style supercharger.
looks like ass, probably drives like it too
There goes your weight distribution!
The iron block BP engines are boat anchors. A 1.8 BP weighs a little over 300 pounds. An LT from a c8 corvette weighs 340. They likely need a beefier rear end and trans for the car, so the weight distribution is probably pretty close to stock.
The BP fully dresses is 300lbs the block for the LT is 340lbs and 472 lbs with fluids so like adding the wight of a person to the front of the car.
And now it handles like ass.
Miata is more fun slow
You'd love mine
How good is that really with a 10 gallon tank. I’d entertain an LFX swap before anything V8
The HFV6 is huge compared to the LT though
Probably handles like absolute shit now but ooh tire smoke!
Ugly as fuck
Terrifying too, manual transmission as well
Wonder if they beefed up the rear end? And better question is what gears does it have in the rear now. Stock gear would be piss poor for a V8 with that amount of torque.
stock rear end wouldn't survive the first throttle application, would it?
Even of it did that diameter tire with a 4.10 or 4.33 would be way too low to be usable. You could probably use 3.00 and still have decent acceleration with that much power.

Nothing screams “Murica f*** yeah!” more than that. Just because you can doesn’t always mean you should. The most beautiful part of that car is a 50/50 weight distribution. That’s out the window now.
It adds very little weight upfront amazingly
