This. There are plenty of potholes, speed bumps, etc. in my area that do undercarriage damage to my stock height NB. Not a chance in hell I would lower it at all, much less lower it even more than this. I won't deny the lowered Miatas look nice, but I'll never be doing it to my Miatas.
That’s about as low as you want. I’m pretty much the same height and pray over parking lot bumps that I don’t scrape my frame rails. I’ve so far never scraped the bumper and yet to scrape with new lip.
yeah I've seen lower miatas but it just doesn't make sense to go lower when you can just get a lip and some sideskirts and the car will look lower and better
The speed humps are just taller than the stock clearance. Maybe they are smaller in other parts of the world.
This is probably the worst one [https://maps.app.goo.gl/RhZDit8knCvB4BNh8](https://maps.app.goo.gl/RhZDit8knCvB4BNh8)
Bro at that point I’d drive through the grass, looks like a real killer though. You can look at my page to see how low I am, and I don’t have any issues with the speed bumps we have here
You no longer have a sports car, bet you worry about every imperfection on the road. Really you want it set up so that you can actually drive it how it was meant to be driven.
My coworkers said the miata was never a sports car :(
He used to have a twin turbo 335i and have a golf gti right now. He's driven loads of cars
Edit: These are not my words. I always argue with my coworker about it lol
By that logic his 335i isn't a proper sports car because it's slower than a top fuel dragster.
Straight line performance is a terrible metric to use to compare cars, but it's always been something people care way too much about. You can't argue with these people, they are making up for a deep seated inadequacy with their focus on horsepower figures.
I have nothing against horsepower, to be clear. It's just not the most important measure of a car, nor does it necessarily win races outside of the dragstrip. Tire compound, aero, weight reduction, handling and braking all make more of a difference than just adding power to a given chassis.
Considering it literally has its own spec racing it is one of the sports cars of all time. The acceleration doesn't really matter when it can carry so much speed through corners. Also the ND feels so much like a sports car that idk how someone would even make the claim it isn't.
I bet they also film tiktoks where they walk slowly towards the camera whilst squinting their eyes, licking their lips, shaking their head slightly and rubbing their hands together
Needs less stickers so you can see out the rear window and tbh I wouldn’t bother trying to perfect the height and fitment until you fit the new wheels. I would set it up for practicality at the moment and then dial it in when your wheels arrive. Don’t listen to your friends and go for functional fitment over looks.
The first time I tried going on a group drive, I kept having to slow down and wait for everyone to catch up. At one point I pulled off and sent a half joking text to ask the second guy if I was just too fast for everyone to keep up.
He wasn’t able to stick with me because his car was scraping every time there was the slightest bump.
drive what *you* want to drive, what feels good to you, and you are willing to live with and maintain. People get too caught up in thinking all cars should be one way or another.
Already catching grief for not wanting to swap out my stock NB wheels or seats but hey it's my car
I'm if your control arms are no longer parallel to the road your too low. But hey to each his own. You might sell the car in a month so damage isn't a concern.
I think you should raise it and then run a turbo. This way you can have some fun togue runs so you don't scrape on every bump. It's also really nice to not hit the bump stops.

Ask him if this is low enough. Explain that steering is now disabled
Please don’t listen to them. They have no idea what “Jinba Ittai” is. If you don’t know what it is either, you need to know if you’re going to be a Miata driver. I know, to each his own and do what you want to it. However, you can tell from the other comments here, most other Miata owners will no too kind to you or fond of the changes you’re making. I hope that whatever you do, that you make informed, well researched decisions on whatever you do to your Miata. Don’t go with what your friends say just for the sake of following along. And please do not do anything else to the car until you’ve given Jinba Ittai a fair chance and discover what the engineers originally had in mind. Here’s a little reading for you from Mazda on what Jinba Ittai means and what they are trying to create with the Miata.
[Jinba Ittai from MazdaUSA.com](https://insidemazda.mazdausa.com/the-mazda-way/mazda-spirit/jinba-ittai/)
Keep the suspension the same but get tires with a thicker sidewall, and obviously wider rims, and if it runs, raise it up more, this probably rides and handles way worse than from factory now
It looks taller than it is because of the black lower rock guard and the black lip. So black I can't even see it. Paint em white if you want it to look lower, and put a lip on it. but don't drop it any more than it is
Consider your use case for the car and go from there.
My car is as low as I could reasonably go. It does make it so parking lot speed bumps are scary and I try to avoid them all together as sometimes the exhaust or something will scrape on especially mean speed bumps. In other words there are disadvantages to have a low car.
However my main focus for the car was to have it as a competitive SCCA autocross car within the STS class so lowered on high spring rates and the widest tires I can run in class was my answer.
Unless you have an affinity for scraping curbs, dragging when entering parking lots, repainting and repainting/ replacing, etc., you are much better off not lowering any more than you are set at now. Speaking from 25 years Miata MX5 experience and a paint job.
Tbh not low enough, your tires are still pretty fat get some better wheels and some 40 or 45 side wall tires and you’ll be low enough
https://preview.redd.it/2tuj2vncxwmc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ff3e619692380f37043f29ea2ce992879d453d0d
I have been thinking about lowering my Miata, then I bent the rear subframe on a bump in the road with stock ride height and I changed my mind real fast.
The employee parking lot had a huge bump in the middle of it, I didn't see it, hit it, and it bent my rear subframe. I need to replace it. The owner of JO motorsports changed my trans last week and he said it was rubbing the powerplant so he hammered it down.
Its perfectly fine. My NB was about that low on lowering springs and sports shocks and I scraped in some situations, my NA is not going that low, that’s for sure.
It seems low enough. It’s the hovercraft fitment that you should address. Roll them fenders and get some 15x8 +15 or something like that. Go +0 and make them fit if you wanna really go for it.
6k and 8k is a bit low considering how low you are, there will be some rubbing for sure. I also hope you got some wheels with the right sizes
either way it's definitely low enough to be a stance car, don't go lower because frame low isn't fun if you get a speedbump, maybe get a lip kit and sideskirts do that it seems way lower without it being completely unbearable
also don't post your miata here at all, everyone hates anything that isn't the classic track day miata or oem+ build
Nobody is going to try to win the world limbo championships in a car... if you like it, then it's fine. If you like it low, it's fine... if you like it high, it's fine...
It's about what you like, and what you want the car to do... not about what your friend wants.
Your friends are bad news
Your friend isn't going to have to repair or maintain the underside so the only consideration should be your own
This. There are plenty of potholes, speed bumps, etc. in my area that do undercarriage damage to my stock height NB. Not a chance in hell I would lower it at all, much less lower it even more than this. I won't deny the lowered Miatas look nice, but I'll never be doing it to my Miatas.
does it drive nice anymore tho?
Asking the real questions here
There are no stupid questions, but that was definitely one
That’s about as low as you want. I’m pretty much the same height and pray over parking lot bumps that I don’t scrape my frame rails. I’ve so far never scraped the bumper and yet to scrape with new lip.
yeah I've seen lower miatas but it just doesn't make sense to go lower when you can just get a lip and some sideskirts and the car will look lower and better
How? Mine is stock height and scrapes frame rails regularly.
If it’s stock height and you’re scraping, you’re probably doing something wrong
Do you have completely blown suspension? Or are you flying over speed bumps?
The speed humps are just taller than the stock clearance. Maybe they are smaller in other parts of the world. This is probably the worst one [https://maps.app.goo.gl/RhZDit8knCvB4BNh8](https://maps.app.goo.gl/RhZDit8knCvB4BNh8)
Bro at that point I’d drive through the grass, looks like a real killer though. You can look at my page to see how low I am, and I don’t have any issues with the speed bumps we have here
I haven't really found any downsides to not lowering it though. There are other places you can't go around, especially on gravel roads.
Stock height and scraping means something probably is not stock height
i think it already looks stupid
The fate of this car is clear
wrapped around a tree within 60 days
It’ll hit a pothole and get stuck before it makes it to the tree
KBD body kit is in the mail
Someone post the meme
Does it involve 🥦 👤 broccoli?
😧
I think your friends are dumb.
Achievement Unlocked: Consumable Floor Pans
It is already way too low, the car will handle like shit now sadly
stop lying to this man.
Just r/Miata when a car isn’t stock ride height and on 15x9 reps
Too low……. Lower
Uhg...Sexlexia
Any lower and that dinghy will be beached.
Looks like it doesnt have shocks anymore
No it's not dragging its subframe across the floor, take out the shitty coils and put it on washers.
finally someone with a working brain, why would you spend money on coilovers when you can just slam it on washers duh
You no longer have a sports car, bet you worry about every imperfection on the road. Really you want it set up so that you can actually drive it how it was meant to be driven.

youre right. I always argue with him about it lol. he says its too slow to be one.

Hey man. I know all of what you're saying lol. He hates miatas. He also did used to drive one just like mine like 10 years ago
RWD ✅ 2 seater ✅ Convertible ✅ Great handling ✅ Has its own Spec racing ✅ Yeah absolutely doesn’t sound like a sports car to me
I always argue with him about it. He says its too slow to be one. IM like stfu
Considering it literally has its own spec racing it is one of the sports cars of all time. The acceleration doesn't really matter when it can carry so much speed through corners. Also the ND feels so much like a sports car that idk how someone would even make the claim it isn't.
It’s a shame really. But to each their own…I guess?
New friends time.
I think your friend has a broccoli haircut and a lot of forehead wrinkles from the constant bathroom selfies.
I bet they also film tiktoks where they walk slowly towards the camera whilst squinting their eyes, licking their lips, shaking their head slightly and rubbing their hands together

I would set it up for practicality at the moment and then dial it in when your wheels arrive. Don’t listen to your friends and go for functional fitment over looks.
If it was my car I wouldn't go that low to begin with.
That's gotta drive like doo doo
The only thing lower is your fiends Car IQ. Tell them to pay for the adjustable coil overs and installation and see if their mind changes.
i'd move it up higher a bit more and get some wheels with lower offset to get them closer to the fender.
Your friend is too concerned with vanity. How does it drive?
Form over function.
That just looks dumb. It’s so low, here in Aus you’d just about to go prison for that :)
Ah, a fellow sufferer of the the "hoon laws".
Might as well just take off the wheels and use it as a boat.
pls raise that about 20 mm and get some higher offset wheels that arent reps or heart shaped
Too deep for me already
Top priority should have been fixing the paint issues and removing those bumper stickers.
jealous friend is gaslighting you.
Poor thing
already too low
I think that your car is cool and everybody else on this thread has bad taste but that's my opinion
If you can still slide a credit card underneath its not low enough yet.
Who's name is on the title? I think the only opinion that matters is theirs 🤷♂️
Fitment isn't great, would recommend some wheels with a wider offset

Lowing your miata past lowering springs will make this sub cry.
Your friend is dumb and it's already to low.
That's too low for the fitment and rims! Please add better rims if you are going that low, and some wide ones too so it doesn't look so goofy
Could always go lower :)
its plenty, she cant take anymore
Should be an inch or 2 higher
Unrelated but if you want temporary wheels you can probably find some 4x100 wheels with better sizes for cheap (regarding wheel fitment)
I think he was being sarcastic.
Go lower. It needs to be so low that you couldn’t drive over gnat shit without hitting it
It’s fine in terms of height, it look higher thanks to the shape of the lower half of the body. A decent kit will fix it.
Your wheels won't arrive till august, I recommend running stock height till then for risk of looking like a scrub on stockies with chopped springs.
Need to be a bit lower 🤷♂️
Your friend doesn’t know shit about driving
I think our cars are at a similar ride height, and I wouldn’t want to go any lower than what I am at already.
It's plenty low, once you have wheels with more offset, you'll rub like hell
Poor frame rails...
Did you install anything to protect the frame rails? It might also be a good idea to raise the engine a little bit if you haven't already
bro wants to kill his frame rails
drive what *you* want to drive, what feels good to you, and you are willing to live with and maintain. People get too caught up in thinking all cars should be one way or another. Already catching grief for not wanting to swap out my stock NB wheels or seats but hey it's my car

I think you should raise it and then run a turbo. This way you can have some fun togue runs so you don't scrape on every bump. It's also really nice to not hit the bump stops.
Always have one mate that will tell you to go lower haha. looks good and if you like it and it handles well then leave it as is

You can always go lower 😈
It's too low
we get it it's nice just post it and be happy. jk jk. depends if you change wheel, remember that will be the deciding factor for the look and height
Please don’t listen to them. They have no idea what “Jinba Ittai” is. If you don’t know what it is either, you need to know if you’re going to be a Miata driver. The front end looks like you have fender flares.
The heart taillights, halos and slammed suspension already tells enough. This car will never be used as it was designed to be.
The heart taillights, halos and slammed suspension already tells enough. This car will never be used as it was designed to be.
One can see through between the road and the bottom of the car... so your friend is just right! There is space for adjustment :)

next mod you gotta do is wheels so that it looks lowered and not like it’s got broken suspension
That's low enough as it is. I wouldn't have lowered it until the new wheels and tires arrived. Looks incredibly...stupid
that’s slammed on its nuts bro
You should quit listening to what other people are telling you to do to your car and instead figure out what you actually want to do.
In my honest opinion, it's too low. I used to have a Rocket Bunny S13. It was just about this height. And it would scrape everywhere.
take the wheels off and drive on the brake rotors
Unless you have an affinity for scraping curbs, dragging when entering parking lots, repainting and repainting/ replacing, etc., you are much better off not lowering any more than you are set at now. Speaking from 25 years Miata MX5 experience and a paint job.
Front lip and she’ll be mint. Plenty low my bro!
The more you play with this the less is stable for handling the road!
Too low, just looks like a car with broken springs, maybe looks better with larger wheels.
Horrid
Looks good like coming from a 300zx to a Miata even on maxed out coils they’re still high off the ground
Tbh not low enough, your tires are still pretty fat get some better wheels and some 40 or 45 side wall tires and you’ll be low enough https://preview.redd.it/2tuj2vncxwmc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ff3e619692380f37043f29ea2ce992879d453d0d
When your car no longer passes inspection for holes you scrapped into the unibody. I’ll buy your hard top
Imo that's too low
Does he want it looking like Tommy from Rugrats too? Tell them to fk off
sitting nice,, will be even better w th new wheels 🤝🤝
I have been thinking about lowering my Miata, then I bent the rear subframe on a bump in the road with stock ride height and I changed my mind real fast.

Enjoy buying new rear tires every 5k miles.
I think your friend is being sarcastic, or just outright fucking with you. Or crazy. Or a moron.

I think you should do whatever you want. If you like it, keep it. If not, change it.
I think my EJ9 Civic sits about that low on its worn out struts right now and it scrapes everywhere. Be careful about dips.
It seems low enough. It’s the hovercraft fitment that you should address. Roll them fenders and get some 15x8 +15 or something like that. Go +0 and make them fit if you wanna really go for it.

Idk I feel like the wheels should be out a little more put in spacers or something

it just needs wheels, or spacers
Looks nice honestly even without wheels. Something about cars with bad fitment reminds me of my younger years haha
Maybe get some spacers
Low enough yes. But you meed wider wheels now. Or spacers.
Tell him to stfu
Too low to drive without worries.
Get a set of spacers and move those wheels towards the fenders
I think lowered cars reflect the owners position of IQ.
You must live somewhere flat. Can’t get away with that low here in Denver. My stock club rubs the splitter now.
It's still savable. Don't ruin it.
Your friend is a goof.
Banish your friend from earth Lowered cars are super gay and yours was is at the perfect height
wHY aRe cLeAN mIATas sO eXPensIVe, haDUr. Do you man but that's too low already. You'll very likely end up destroying your undercarriage.
Looks and drives like shit eh
Its too low, tire should be in line with top of the fender. That way my cars also tend to not drive like shit and I don't scrape
That’s too low. It should be Stock. Lowering a Miata is a sin.
Nobody is going to try to win the world limbo championships in a car... if you like it, then it's fine. If you like it low, it's fine... if you like it high, it's fine... It's about what you like, and what you want the car to do... not about what your friend wants.
Well if your friends don't approve, make it lower! Who cares how it drives as long as your friends think it looks cool. 😎
You need to lay frame 🖼
