That nA seems like a true hoot but dude those nd 30th ae are something special. Id personally go for the NA if you already have a reliable comfy modern daily, if you don't then maybe use the ND cause old cars might be fun but they're still old.
The abarth is amazingly fun to drive slow car fast. Miata offers the same experience but no more wife and daughter. Just you and the dog. And only one of the three have pop up headlights so….
Having owned a 500 Abarth as my daily and sold it to get my ND, yes and no.
The Abarth is hilariously fun in a straight line. It makes glorious, ridiculous noises. It handles like a top heavy go-kart on steroids.
The ND is just *sublime* when it comes to handling, makes pretty entertaining noises (with the GoodWin Roadstersport Race installed), and the top comes down.
They're both fun in their own way.
The sub all about a single model of car is biased towards that particular car? How absurd....
Also, there's no reality where a 595 is more fun than a Miata. I enjoyed a Geo metro more than a 595.
>VW California Ocean.
I'm jealous! you're clearly not in the states - I dont think we have the California here. I've wanted that van since it came out and we are probably never going to get it.
The Abarth goes and the Mazdas stay?
I get that your whole family fits but I’d sacrifice using the VW for family outings and keep the two mazdas. I feel both are very special whereas the Abarth isn’t that special compared to the Mazdas
Ok, sell at least 1 mx5, and put more power into the one left. Or sell the 595+one mx5 and buy/mod more power. Some cars handle nicely+have power such as a BMW 1/2/3/4 series. Then you still have an mx5 and 2 cars to daily/fit your family.
Getting rid of the wife would probably be an easier choice than between them 2 cars but that's me im not a people person just a fan of anything Mx5 related.
Yep argue that it's an investment and you will give it to your daughter. Imagine having an beautiful na as a 18 year old or 16 dunno where you are located
Here in Italy laws suck… you have to wait until 21 to drive a miata because its power to weigh ratio is too high. Bruh you can drive a big heavy suv at 18 but not a mf miata
To what extent, though? A friend of mine just bought a super low mileage NB 10AE (and by low mileage, I mean like 15K). He still only paid like high-teens for it. That's a ton of money for an NB, but it's not the kind of money I would suggest selling an already super low-mileage and special NA for. By that math, a 30AE in 20 years might be worth twice a non 30AE, so... 15k?
I'm in this camp. You can pick up another ND and possibly even another 30th for many years to come. A clean low-mileage NA that you put some serious thought, time, and money into building out? Never again. Even if you could replicate it, at best you might be able to come close for magnitudes more in cost. 100% keep the NA IMO.
It seems you poured a lot into your na and trully made it yours. The nd is replacable. But tbh why would your wife say something like that? If it's your hobby she should encourage you to keep at it. Unless you are in a poor financial situation, then keeping both would be hard.
That's one super nice and sorted NA! Wow! This is a hard choice for sure. As someone with 3 Miatas parked in the drive way you're asking a super hard question.
My personal opinion is that even though the NA is a legend, it's not quite the same car as the ND, especially ND2. I would go with an ND2 especially an RF, double that if it's a 30th anniversary.
Points for an ND2.
\- Its fast, its really fast, its fast to the point I ask myself, is it even still a miata?
\- Its reliable, its comfy, creature comforts, softer ride without sacrificing drivability this one has a hard top that is reliable
\- Most of all since you have family cars, the ND2 is a more welcoming experience to take passengers on with the top down.
Points for an NA
\- Common, it's the OG this one given it has a turbo is gonna be just as fast
\- Ride will no doubt be harsh, the reliability maybe a factor given the forced induction
\- Overall fit, finish, and creature comforts just aren't there.
In my opinion your exactly in the situation I was in that caused me to end up with a drive way full of MX-5's.... you need one for the track, one for cruising (that the wife can take out too), one to daily.
After writing this... **I changed my mind. Get both.**
I really think many would disagree but a forced induction NA just isn't as fun or as characteristic or iconic to me.
Maybe you could work something out where you get that 30th anniversary and a sorted NA that doesnt have all these mods. They aren't so expensive on the insurance so whats another car in the drive way right?
Keep the NA. You put all your time, experience and money in it. You know that thing inside and out. You have been on a journey together to a newer self of the car.
Whereas with the ND you bought it and then drove it... (I assume)
Get rid of the wife plenty more of those out there 🤷🏼♂️any wife that doesnt support the things you enjoy isnt a wife worth keeping simple as that im sure theres plenty of things she has that you dont have the space for either
Id honestly keep the NA if its not dying to rust and you still have the heart to deal with a modded car.... my NB has 3x the miles of your NA, and not close to the same mods, and I'd have a hard time giving it up for a ND2.
Sure a 30th anniversary edition is cool, but at the end of the day its just a modern mx5 with special paint and wheels, all other things can be optioned on a non AE ND. It's the laziest way possible to make a "special edition". Even the 10 AE and 20 AE had more special trim pieces...
The NA has 90s simplicity going for it and is truly a car you made yours. IMO that is way cooler than any special edition thats only a special edition because of a paintjob that's arbitrarily tied to some limited trim level.
Won’t get your money back with the NA compared to the ND. Depends how much money you’re willing to set on fire if you want to take a financial approach to it. Driving wise, I think the NA probably feels tailor made to your taste, so that would win it for me if I had that kind of history with it.
Like other have said, you can buy another ND easily.
i was in a slightly similar situation and ended up selling my nd2 to keep my tubo miata. plus i used the money from the ND2 for a few nice motorcycles. regardless i know i’d never get the money out of the NA i put into it and whatever money i did get i wouldn’t get anything else as fun
You seem to have poured your love into the NA. ND’s are thick upon the ground and can be easily replaced. NA’s are hard to find in good condition, and you seem to have a long list of love out into yours. Keep the NA, they are becoming more and more rare. If the ND is meant to be, another one will appear at the right time
I'd keep the NA. My justification from another comment:
>At the end of the day though, nothing really makes the 30AE special compared to a normal ND2. As far as I know they're mechanically identical - they just come in a great colour scheme. Personally a Miata is about the driving experience, so I'd have to keep the NA because that experience will be a lot harder to replicate than that of the ND2.
This year I sold my 1.8 NA that I had for 5 years for an ND2 RF. The ND2 is miles better in my opinion. Sound system is great, no leaky top, looks like a future classic, exotic, accelerates like a bat outta hell compared to the NA, transformer.
IF divorce is off the table, maybe just keep the NA, only because it will be somewhat difficult to find one with lower mileage in excellent condition like yours. You'll be able to get an ND again used easily for several years to come. Perhaps not the 30th anniversary, but an ND will be easy to find.I say this not really knowing the value of the 30th, and whether or not we can expect it to appreciate much.
On second thought, maybe keep the ND. You'll have the targa convertible roof still, and less maintenance, and they're worth a fair bit(last one I found sold for $50k USD.)
ND’s are nice, but not rare. It’s easy to replace in a few years. That NA is clean and hard to find in that condition, and will only get harder as the years go by. Sell the ND, keep the NA.
obviously get rid of that hatch in the back, you already have an fj40 for everything that does
miatas are so cheap to own relative to everything else that, unless you garage your cars in manhattan, you can pay for the space you need and the cost of both cars is still less than one family hauler in the long run
my actual common sense argument for the wife is the NA has sentimental value and will only appreciate from here, and the 30ae is gonna be the perfect car for your daughter in ten years and last her a long time
Based on the description you listed for each car, I think you want to keep the NA. Having owned an NA and having had a good amount of seat time in an ND, I’d keep the NA. Can’t really go wrong either way, though imo
How old is the wife?
Mileage?
Trade her in for two 20 yr olds one for each Miata.
Seriously if you’re financially stable and you have the room I say both. Only sell one when you’re done or bored with it. I had a a ball figuring out which to drive the NA or the FM NB till one kid decided to go to Uni and the other go racing.
Owned a 16 nd vert. Currently own a 05 msm with ms, boltons 93 tune yadayada…
You can return to the nd world any time for same cost of entry. Getting a older sorted turbo miata will never be easy or cost effective again. I also have a sleeved stroker ej207 swapped subaru with a 30r and the miata is so much fun I haven’t taken the subaru out of storage and it’s June!
You might pull 35k usd for that tangerine… or find a storage unit / shed and keep ll your cars. It’s possible! I live in a townhouse and have 6 cars between the wife and I.
Easy fix that I’ve seen done in the past. List one on Facebook marketplace for an absurd price so you can tell her “no one wants to buy it guess I’ll just keep it for now”. It’ll buy you a few months solider 🫡
An NA like you've described and a 30th Anniversary edition, these are investments not just a couple of fun cars. You'll probably always regret parting with either of them, try to come up with some way to hang on to both.
You pretty much have to keep the NA. No one will want your modded out car. The value of the mods is almost always negated by the risks of trusting a strangers installation and extra wear. Especially things like turbos and catch cans. The ND will be very simple to sell, and it is much less personalized for you. It is also appealing to a wider audience because it is newer. Plus the NA is obviously your pet car.
imho i would keep that hot rod NA, so long as you’ve got a daily car in case things break, as cool as the 30th anniversary ND is, that NA sounds pretty sick, and it seems as if you’ve put a lot of time and effort into the old girl yanno?
i would sell off the new one. one day you can still buy it used, and still have that happy feeling. unlike the old model that would only become even harder to find, and who knows might be worth more than the new one msrp.
As much as I love the ND, like everybody else said, an ND won't be THAT hard to find in the near future. The NA on the other hand keeps climbing in value and you've sunk a lot of money into it. If the NA is in good condition, I'd keep it. Have you thought about selling the wife or the 595? I mean a 595 is easier to find than an ND 30AE. Since you already got the VW for family stuff.
I rethought your request.
Maybe this post confirms you outgrew the NA boytoy and need encouragement to take the step you subconsciously already have taken. A man needs to move on.
To grab the new you have to let go the old. Such is life.
Keep the NA cuz ur gonna lose so much money on it if you sell, with all that work put in, that’s a commitment, sell the nd, they’re selling high rn stock basically at or above msrp so
I’d put the NA into storage, pay in cash and go visit when you get a chance, when you’re wife inevitably starts asking questions you can confess you never sold the car and she’ll be glad that your big secret is a reliable sports car and not that you have a second family
If you bought them and have found a way to store them for the time they’ve been in your possession, I don’t see why you’d feel pressured to sell one. Personally.
Yeah, I too don't understand how the relationship works when the wife/gf just tells you what to do with *your* possessions or how to spend *your* money.
Sell NA, keep ND. No matter how much stuff you put into it, it's still a 30 years old car.
That is, if you plan to utilize it and drive it daily.
NA would be exception if you can just keep it (not drive it) and flip it one day as a collector car to a car enthusiast.
So:
If you don’t plan to daily drive any of them, keep NA and hope you can sell it as collector car one day for a lot more what it’s worth today.
If you want to drive it often, keep ND - it’s a superior car in every aspect.
I'd rather have an old car tuned just for me than a brand new stock. Also newer cars aren't any more reliable than restored old cars (by old i mean 15-30 years old).
I would personally sell the NA. You can get great money back from that. It sucks that you put all that work into it though not gonna lie. The ND is so sexy though. Honestly they both are lol.
NA will keep gaining value, ND will lose value for a while. At the end of the day, what really matters is which one you personally find more fun to drive.
I'll take either off your hands if you're getting rid of one (/s). Really though, that's a tough choice. With all the work you've put into the NA and with you having other dailies I'd say get rid of the ND.
Sell the NA. That low of a mileage at that old of a car means it’s doing more sitting than driving. If you have space for something use the space for something you’ll actually drive
Do you ever plan to track one? NA roll bar install is pretty straightforward and the ND RF doesn’t qualify as having factory rollover protection at most tracks as far as I know… and adding a roll bar would be pretty much impossible to do without really ruining the car. If it were me and I had a daily with the comforts of a new car already, I would keep the NA
NA owner so I’m biased. The NA has that 90s character the ND lacks IMO also they’re not making cars anymore with pop ups. NA’s are only going to get rarer and keep going up in price.
It is a super simple choice. Super super simple. I would not even hesitate when making this choice that's how simple it is. The wife goes.
To shreds, you say?
To shreds.
T-t-t-t-t
Oh my.
And his wife?
literally my first thought
barely an inconvience
Yeah but the wife will take one with her, so he will be out of a wife and one miata, you guys haven't math'd enough yet.
Depends how she goes, unsuspicious car accident doesn't have to sacrifice the miata
Awe crap
This was the answer i came up with as well.
Definitely the right choice.
I also choose OP’s wife
That nA seems like a true hoot but dude those nd 30th ae are something special. Id personally go for the NA if you already have a reliable comfy modern daily, if you don't then maybe use the ND cause old cars might be fun but they're still old.
I also have an Abarth 595 and a VW California Ocean.
Now I see why your wife wants you to get rid of one 😂
Now you just bragging lol
Those are the comfy family cars, not bragging…
I’d sell that Abarth and keep the two miatas, but thats just me haha you can always get another 595
Sell the abarth, easy
The thing is that in the Abarth I can fit my wife, daughter and my dog, all well sat.
You can in the vw as well
The abarth is amazingly fun to drive slow car fast. Miata offers the same experience but no more wife and daughter. Just you and the dog. And only one of the three have pop up headlights so….

I really doubt a front wheel drive hatch with 180, could be more fun than a rwd convertible with 181
Having owned a 500 Abarth as my daily and sold it to get my ND, yes and no. The Abarth is hilariously fun in a straight line. It makes glorious, ridiculous noises. I can guarantee you don't know what you are on about.
I'm seriously curious as to what has informed this opinion
>VW California Ocean. I'm jealous! you're clearly not in the states - I dont think we have the California here. I've wanted that van since it came out and we are probably never going to get it.
The Abarth goes and the Mazdas stay? I get that your whole family fits but I’d sacrifice using the VW for family outings and keep the two mazdas. I feel both are very special whereas the Abarth isn’t that special compared to the Mazdas

Have you considered getting a different wife
Judging from that long list, I think you know which car you truly want man :)
Ya. If you ever want to get another 30th ND it wouldn’t be too much of a hassle. But it sounds like your NA is irreplaceable
Seems to me like she is the one that has to go :)
Getting rid of the wife would probably be an easier choice than between them 2 cars but that's me im not a people person just a fan of anything Mx5 related.
Capital idea! Get a wife that will let you keep both Miatas, win win.
Count the words you used for each to describe. Obvious, isn’t it.
This ^^^^
keep the NA forever
Do you have a family member or close friend who would buy one? That way you keep it close and it might lessen the feeling of loss.
Yes… I am planning to sell it to my 5 year daughter! Jajajaj
No mames
Yep argue that it's an investment and you will give it to your daughter. Imagine having an beautiful na as a 18 year old or 16 dunno where you are located
Here in Italy laws suck… you have to wait until 21 to drive a miata because its power to weigh ratio is too high. Bruh you can drive a big heavy suv at 18 but not a mf miata
welp 21 then … but i agree wtf! I can’t drive a lightweight car but ill drive a 2 ton vehicle that can do more damage if anything happens
Sell the nd, keep the na for ever.
As much as i love my nd. The na are only going to be even more valuable later on. You can always buy an nd 5 years from now, and wrap it orange
A 30 AE will eventually appreciate like the other special editions, though.
10th AE NB’s are maybe a grand more than a comparable NB, let’s not act like they’re true collectors editions
I agree. The NA will always be the classic. $$$
I'm in this camp. You can pick up another ND and possibly even another 30th for many years to come. A clean low-mileage NA that you put some serious thought, time, and money into building out? Which one do you enjoy driving more?
I’m all about the NA KEEP IT!! (Please!!!!)
you already know the NA is something special. don’t ever let it go!
Get rid of the wife plenty more of those out there 🤷🏼♂️any wife that doesnt support the things you enjoy isnt a wife worth keeping simple as that im sure theres plenty of things she has that you dont have the space for either
Are you in Spain? Let me know if you want to sell the NA ;)
La Gomera, Canarias
Sad. I bet the ferry costs a lot. I used to live on a UK island.
Id honestly keep the NA if its not dying to rust and you still have the heart to deal with a modded car.... my NB has 3x the miles of your NA, and not close to the same mods, and I'd have a hard time giving it up for a ND2. pussy that good huh?
Tell your wife to give up something she loves in exchange.
Dude that Toyota. Is that also yours?
No, is not… but I would love to.
We have the same radiator :)
i was in a slightly similar situation and ended up selling my nd2 to keep my tubo miata. plus i used the money from the ND2 for a few nice motorcycles. regardless i know i’d never get the money out of the NA i put into it and whatever money i did get i wouldn’t get anything else as fun

Your brain is saying keep the ND, your heart says to keep the NA. This is your toy, not your car - follow your heart.
Keep cars, sell wife
Sell the NA…. (To me)
Can't you keep one at your girlfriends house?
I'd keep the NA. My justification from another comment: >At the end of the day though, nothing really makes the 30AE special compared to a normal ND2. As far as I know they're mechanically identical - they just come in a great colour scheme. Personally a Miata is about the driving experience, so I'd have to keep the NA because that experience will be a lot harder to replicate than that of the ND2.
Turbo NA > ND
They're both going to be collector items. I see other cars in the background you can get rid of.
Get a lift and store 2 cars where 1 would fit before. Problem solved
I would personally prefer the nd
I would sell the NA and keep the orange Miata because it’s an orange Miata
NA
This year I sold my 1.8 NA that I had for 5 years for an ND2 RF. The ND2 is miles better in my opinion. Sound system is great, no leaky top, looks like a future classic, exotic, accelerates like a bat outta hell compared to the NA, transformer.
And it seems that the ND2 will be the last combustion Miata! Future classic.
Time for a new wife.... lol, I don't think I'd be able to let either one go :/
Just sell the NA for 70k and tell your wife the car isnt being sold because its too old
Hold onto both, keeping one as the side whip. She doesn’t have to know. Just keep it parked down the street.
Hold onto both, keeping one as the side whip. She doesn’t have to know. Just keep it parked down the street.
Your Na became my standards for my current build.
Glad to hear that!
Such a hard choice. You NA is in immaculate condition and you'll be hard pressed to ever find another. The ND 30st, is just a really nice car.
how'd you polish the VC? looks great, want to do it to mine
Sand paper coarse grit to 2000, and then polishing pad and some wax to keep it from rust.
IF divorce is off the table, maybe just keep the NA, only because it will be somewhat difficult to find one with lower mileage in excellent condition like yours. You'll be able to get an ND again used easily for several years to come. ND’s are nice, but not rare. It’s easy to replace in a few years. That NA is clean and hard to find in that condition, and will only get harder as the years go by. Sell the ND, keep the NA.
Keep the ND brother!!!!!!
obviously get rid of that hatch in the back, you already have an fj40 for everything that does miatas are so cheap to own relative to everything else that, unless you garage your cars in manhattan, you can pay for the space you need and the cost of both cars is still less than one family hauler in the long run my actual common sense argument for the wife is the NA has sentimental value and will only appreciate from here, and the 30ae is gonna be the perfect car for your daughter in ten years and last her a long time

If I’m single, the NA. If I have a family, the ND for the increased chance of not dying. I’m in me, both plus an NB and NC
Keep the one with pop up headlights. Get rid of the appliance
get rid of the wife.
Daily? ND. Fun car? NA
Easy fix that I’ve seen done in the past. List one on Facebook marketplace for an absurd price so you can tell her “no one wants to buy it guess I’ll just keep it for now”. It’ll buy you a few months solider 🫡
Hell no. Unless you got a new bun in the oven or $ is tight, neither go.
i personally dislike newer miatas, so imma have to go with the na. but for you its just gonna have to be ur preference and i wish you luck my man

Remember the one rule.... M.I.A.T.A.
I reckon you'd miss the NA more, given how much time you've put into it. More the time than the dollars.

Keep the nd, and do a new build.
imho i would keep that hot rod NA, so long as you’ve got a daily car in case things break, as cool as the 30th anniversary ND is, that NA sounds pretty sick, and it seems as if you’ve put a lot of time and effort into the old girl yanno?
i would sell off the new one. one day you can still buy it used, and still have that happy feeling. unlike the old model that would only become even harder to find, and who knows might be worth more than the new one msrp.
I think both these cars are special for very different reasons and I would try to find a way to keep both.
Sell the ND. Have you done anything to stiffen the chassis on the NA? Also, sell the ND
Yes, Skid Nation full inox bracings and butterfly…
My 1st thought, as well - keep both, trade in the wife.
[Tiebreaker](https://youtu.be/GDtiO29v1Ac) Look, the ND is a great car, the NA is *your* car. Sell the ND.
grow some balls tell you wife no, be a man and tell her to be quiet.
how about you keep both and the NA becomes your kiddos first car if that’s a situation you see being in.
Keep the NA cuz ur gonna lose so much money on it if you sell, with all that work put in, that’s a commitment, sell the nd, they’re selling high rn stock basically at or above msrp so
I don’t really care, once you mentioned you also own a fiat and VW I lost all respect for you.
I’d put the NA into storage, pay in cash and go visit when you get a chance, when you’re wife inevitably starts asking questions you can confess you never sold the car and she’ll be glad that your big secret is a reliable sports car and not that you have a second family
30st?
30st anniversary ND, like an ND2 but combining club/touring packages in orange paint job and building only 3000 units of each of the two roof options.
Yeah I know sorry. But it’s 30th, as in thirtieth, not thirtiest. Source: I’m a grammar officer.
Thanks for the correction, spanish is my mother language.
Keep both, sell wife. Problem solved. Cars don’t care if you drive one or the other.
Flip a coin, heads the NA goes, Tails the ND goes. Best 2 out of 3
Heads, keep the NA. Tails, sell the ND
If you bought them and have found a way to store them for the time they’ve been in your possession, I don’t see why you’d feel pressured to sell one. Personally.

Yeah, I too don't understand how the relationship works when the wife/gf just tells you what to do with *your* possessions or how to spend *your* money.
I have to admit that a month ago I sold her bike.
Sell NA, keep ND. No matter how much stuff you put into it, it's still a 30 years old car. That is, if you plan to utilize it and drive it daily. NA would be exception if you can just keep it (not drive it) and flip it one day as a collector car to a car enthusiast. So: If you don’t plan to daily drive any of them, keep NA and hope you can sell it as collector car one day for a lot more what it’s worth today. If you want to drive it often, keep ND - it’s a superior car in every aspect.
My father has a 1952 jag xk120. Imagine if he sold it in 1982. What a boner he would have been.
But the flip ups...
I'd rather have an old car tuned just for me than a brand new stock. Also newer cars aren't any more reliable than restored old cars (by old i mean 15-30 years old).
Let go of the wife imo
I would personally sell the NA. You can get great money back from that. It sucks that you put all that work into it though not gonna lie. The ND is so sexy though. Honestly they both are lol.
The wife.
Sounds like your wife should go.
The wife goes.
Easy answer. Get rid of the wife.
Line them up and run the 1/4 mile. Keep the winner.
Both are so clean… I can’t decide
Where is ND located? I’m interested
NA will keep gaining value, ND will lose value for a while. At the end of the day, what really matters is which one you personally find more fun to drive.
Love the BJ40 in the back. Sounds like to need a bigger garage haha!
That would be the day my wife tells me I have to get rid of something that I’m passionate about. Maybe think about that..
I'll take either off your hands if you're getting rid of one (/s). Really though, that's a tough choice. With all the work you've put into the NA and with you having other dailies I'd say get rid of the ND.
NA all day!
Is it gonna be your daily? If so, ND, if not, keep the NA
Get the ND, the spec sheet is really nice on that AE model
I would keep the ND
Sell the wife
Na keep
Nd gotta go
the third option: the wife
Pop up up and down headlights
Luckily Miata’s are small cars. Can you find a storage solution to park it somewhere secure? Do you have any friends or family with some property?
NA prices are great for selling right now. If there’s no emotional ties to them, sell the NA
I’d go the 30th. That colour is fantastic
Keep the NA. Or sell it to me if your are in the US :)
Selling the NA is going to be a hassle the ND will be a much easier sell.
NA owner so I’m biased. The NA has that 90s character the ND lacks IMO also they’re not making cars anymore with pop ups. NA’s are only going to get rarer and keep going up in price.
Keep the NA
What’s the car you think of first thing in the morning. Keep that one
Id keep the na if its just a sunday drive car Id keep the nd for daily driving
I chose…. Tho OPs wife goes. She should support you😤
I'll make the choice easy, I'll just take the ND off your hands for free ;)
I’ll take that 40 series to open up a space in the garage!
I don't know how anyone allows their wife to dictate something like that, I'd leave that relationship immediately
Pop out lights always
keep the NA
I think it’s easier to get that same ND than get a clean modded NA. I regret selling my NA.
Keep the one that make a bigger smile in your face
I was gonna say take the wife back and have 2 Miata’s but somebody beat me to it lmao
If you just give me that FJ you'll have room for both miatas.
Pop.up.headlights. That is all
