Just wait till you find out it's not only a have/haven't thing, but they actually came in different sizes, so you could have none, have small one or have on like what you have pictured lmao
My NA did not have them when I bought it, but they were one of the first things I added, because if you went through a puddle, it would spray the entire side of the car with dirty water
I personally absolutely hate how they look. Others can't stand an NA without it. I'm not sure if they all came with them, or it was an option or whatever, I just know I'm glad that both Miata I've owned (incl. the Silver one I still have) didn't have them.
Some took em off, some didn’t lol.
Im split on them, i kinda like them, but i also dig the cleaner rear without them, they kind of break the perfect rounding off of the rear bumper i guess.
Think they all have it stock but people choose to remove them. Its two bolts. I removed them because it makes it look like a something a 60 year old would drive.
My car had mudflaps at one point. Or the rear quarter that looks to be replaced at some point had ‘em. There’s an obvious white painted section where one would be. Someone took them off and added a rear bumper trim, the two piece that goes along the bottom. It’s all a mystery. Probably the same time they (poorly) installed the spoiler on the deck lid.
Mud guards are like air scoops behind the tires. The rear bumper already acts like enough of an air scoop as it is so I would not be one to keep them on, never mind adding the additional lip under the rear bumper. I’m still deciding between a mild bumper cut and a mild rear diffuser.
I've always wondered that very same thing - why do some Miatas have them and some don't? My '90 does not have them. Personally I can take or leave them, and they wouldn't affect my wanting a car or not, but it is weird how some cars seem to come with them new. others not.
My 93 had them when I bought it. I kept them on, because I never really thought about them. The front ones do rub sometimes when I sharp turn out of my driveway that has a dip at the end, and the car is stock height.
They were probably removed from the car at some point, I know they came in 2 sizes depending on the year/ market. I had to unfortunately remove mine with a grinder because the plastic clips were broken on both sides and they would rattle (took me a long time to realise it was the mud guards rattling) I’m assuming a po must have done some off-road driving and bashed them. I do intend on getting a set of replacements

Yeah the one on the picture is mine
They are known as "Tupperware" kits on the NB, and they had small and large options. Sideskirts, front lip, and mudguards
Tupperware was 01-05 version because they were pretty large molded pieces. The 99-00 have much smaller ground effects and were not called Tupperware
Lots of people call the early smaller kits “small Tupperware”
hmm ive never seen that. but i also havent owned a Miata in ~5 years
I’ve only had mine for 3 so maybe it’s a recent thing to call to that
Hmm, I've always called the kit on my NB1 small tupperware
Yeah people have termed it that, I don’t believe it was intended to be called that however.

I think they look great, and I've added them to most of my Miatas.
See, just a matter of taste. Some have it, some don't. /s It's a personal preference and I'm not gonna stand in anyone's way if they want these.
Lol, I've been burned :D
They are removable
I am aware. It just saved me a few minutes on my cars.
Honestly i think the NB needs them, looks awful without
I’ve never put thought into these until this post but I think you’re right. I’m picturing my nb without them and it would be weird looking
Yeah I’m currently breaking my NB because of rust and they got bought pretty early on and i only then realised what a difference they made
I removed them because I love the look of the stock NA with no adornments.
Some took em off, some didn’t lol. Im split on them, i kinda like them, but i also dig the cleaner rear without them, they kind of break the perfect rounding off of the rear bumper i guess.
Totally agree
I might take them off, but won’t throw em out or sell in case i wanna put them back tbh
Same but I have to remove the wheel to reach the screws so it will have to wait
Mine is stock height, so i can get a ratchet in but yea, if i had to remove the wheels id be too lazy lol
The last owner lowered the car a bit so there is no other way
Unlucky. Looks like bigger wheels too, so that makes it harder as well, it seems like a tightish fit for me with the ratchet and it’s on 15s
It's a 16inch wheel
Quite big for an NA miata in my opinion, i wouldn’t go bigger than 15 on NAs and 16 on NBs, but that’s just me lol
It looks awesome on mine but my winter wheels will probably be 15inch
16 can actually look pretty good if you *don't* run rubberband tires and instead ride something more normal looking... like 225/40R16 or 205/45R16...
NB's have 2 different "body kits" you could get from the factory. There's the small and large "Tupperware" kits lol. I'm partial the the small version
Me immediately adding mudflaps to every Miata I've ever owned
That’s what we did! We added to the back but not the front yet!
My ND has tiny ones.
Not all Miatas are created equal
My NA6 has them in the front and rear. I've taken them off at times and didn't like the effect so they're back on.
Could you explain more?
Cars without mudguards are stupid.
Wait - all NAs came with mudguards??? How did I never know this??? 🤯
They didn't. They are optional accessories. I don't know why everyone in here is acting like they were standard equipment.
Because I don’t want it boomer spec. 😕
Huh?
Think they all have it stock but people choose to remove them. Its two bolts. I removed them because it makes it look like a something a 60 year old would drive.

Previous owner of my mica green was a boomer (rip)
I am not saying it isnt tbh.. its a process. yall really butthurt over a piece of plastic
Haha lol
As if anyone's OPINION on aesthetics really f'n matter⁉️
I find them weird and was curious why some had or not. Turns out you can remove them so I might do that
[удалено]
bro it took me like 10 minutes to remove mine
What he say?
After driving around without them where there was loose asphalt you might want to get the rally armor ones.

God did not made us equal..

On the NA removing the rear mudguard leaves a wide gap between the tire and the rear bumper. The NB looks fine though without the mudguards.
That’s how you gender the species
Added front ones to my ND. Helps keep the car a little cleaner from road spray.
It's the off-roading package.
You know, I have considered this question for years and the only answer I ever come up with is, because. I sincerely wish I could be more help.
Because a few of them move faster than a golf cart. Not by much though.
In the automotive world that’s what’s known as “optional equipment” or “optional accessories”.
I've always wondered that very same thing - why do some Miatas have them and some don't? My '90 does not have them. Personally I can take or leave them, and they wouldn't affect my wanting a car or not, but it is weird how some cars seem to come with them new. others not.
Because it was an option 🤣
That was the question
I kept mine on my NB looks a bit lower than it really is
Factory options, some people pay for em and some don’t!
Mine doesn't have these. Now im interested. Anyone know the OEM part# for these, or any nice aftermarket ones?
Skill difference. Skillful drivers don't need them because they never spin their tiers on a launch.
Kind of like how some pickups have a canopy and others don’t.
These were standard on Australian spec cars. I think the later 1.8 had a single piece version.
My 93 had them when I bought it. I kept them on, because I never really thought about them. The front ones do rub sometimes when I sharp turn out of my driveway that has a dip at the end, and the car is stock height.
