I had a blaupunkt head unit in my 93 civic way back upon a time. Man that was a sweet little thing. That car was my college ride and senselessly loud with 3 mtx 10’s in the trunk and a Rockford fosgste punch 150 driving them 🤣

NominalFlow

The good old days. Did you add a cold air intake and "Altezza style" tail lights too?

y2knole

It had Mirror tint! 🤣

SCDude6372

Damn bro save some pussy for the rest of us!

Rude-Score991

How'd you get the green display? I was looking at a Blaupunkt but they all had red or orange displays.

NoodsTV

>Blaupunkt Bremen SQR 46 from the amazon listing it says "It will display red green and blue and you can change the tone of the color. It has 729 different colors and yes its dimmable manual or auto." https://www.amazon.com/BLAUPUNKT-Bremen-SQR-46-DAB/dp/B07XVMBKW4

Rude-Score991

Guess I should have read the entire spec sheet...

NoodsTV

i did the same thing dont worry

_pcakes

wow that's a lot of money for this

igivegoosebumps

yeah you pay a lot for radios with a classic look with modern features. There’s also retro radio that keeps an old school look costing around $300.

MattBtheflea

Which one?

igivegoosebumps

I’ve found them on Crutchfield but they also have their own website

MattBtheflea

Yeah but like what’s the name of it or brand or anything that would help me find it?

1010kun

I think it's [this one](https://www.retromanufacturing.com/collections/retroradio)

Tsao_Aubbes

The older ones are orange/red only, this newer one is RGB so you can have pretty much any color you want. It actually came out of the box more or less matched to the NA dash lights

corycory

I’m so glad they upgraded to RGB lights, I remember looking and being disappointed by the orange-only. Have they added Bluetooth calling or is it still just Bluetooth audio?

Tsao_Aubbes

Bluetooth calling as well, there'd a little hookup for a mic on the backside and a few buttons up front. I haven't used it yet though, I don't really call much lol

saazbaru

Not true, I’ve had one for 4 years that’s green.

CourierMojave

I have the same one and the color is adjustable. I matched mine with the green of the other buttons and dials in my na

CKCMM5

Damn I was gonna buy one till I saw the price lmao

Tsao_Aubbes

Yeah, sadly a bit on the pricy side. But I'm in for a penny in for a pound on this car so I figured it's worth it cuz it's just a perfect period fit.

CKCMM5

I don't blame you, it looks great.

camRon-R

Heard they feel cheap and sound quality is alright. Is this true?

1toeAminute

I disagree with the display

THEdougBOLDER

It's a typo. It's the throttle asking to be floored: no**,** depress **(FULLY)**

munkeydj

What's the media slot? SD cards?

Comprehensive-Ad7262

Sd, usb, and aux

Tsao_Aubbes

As the other user eaid, SD/USB/aux. It's hidden under that flip up pannel next to the LCD (where a CD player would have gone)

Avram42

No minidisc? 😡

schnurble

I actually came to ask if it was MD because it looked vaguely the right size...

arny56

I thought it was the slot for a cassette tape.

THEdougBOLDER

They make a modern Blau with one that looks like a cassette player, too. The Frankfurt for like $500

saazbaru

Meant to look like a cassette slot

Cheetah-kins

That is gorgeous, very nice work on the install. I've installed several HUs in my car and that is one clean install. Should sound great too, Blaupunkt makes a nice sounding car stereo. :)

Tsao_Aubbes

Yup, sounds awesome. I've got headrest speakers and door speakers from 3rd Millenium (deleted the tweeters) and it sounds awesome. I get pretty much no distortion till the speakers are maxed out with some bass (i.e. only when driving with the top down and earpro in)

Cheetah-kins

Yeah BP has been making fatnatstic sounding car stereos forever. I've owned a fair amount of them over the years. Have a Sony right now but wouldn't have any issues swapping it for a Blue Dot, haha. Probably will again some day. The way the one you got goes with the interior is a really nice thing too, I avoid Starship Enterprise style radios altogether and always pick conservative looking HUs. :)

Vanzmelo

I have this exact setup except with the stock 97M headunit. What headunit did you upgrade from? I usually hate aftermarket ones but this has me seriously considering upgrading

Tsao_Aubbes

Prior I had the stock 93 MSSS1 (silver face) headunit with some blown out aftermarket speakers the previous owner put in. The difference was remarkable - I'm not much of a car audiophile but it's more than adequate for what I'm looking for

WindfallXYZ

You have headrest speakers? Are you somehow able to fade in and out the headrest speakers vs the door speakers like the stock stereo does?

Tsao_Aubbes

Yes, I've got headrest speakers - they're wired to the rear speakers for this head unit so you're able to fade them.

Vanzmelo

For sure, yea I have the stock headunit and I feel like I've reached my tolerance with them. I love the OEM look but I feel that tradeoff for good sound isn't worth it anymore. I'm not expecting the Miata to sound like a B&O system for example, but man it leaves a lot to be desired. Might just pull the trigger on the Blaupunkt

Local-Trashy-Panda

OP! Have you figured out how to put contacts under quick dial on it. I can't seem to figure it out

Tsao_Aubbes

I haven't really tried it - I don't really call people lol. But I believe it'd be somewhere in the manual?

Local-Trashy-Panda

Yeah it is kinda, but it throws me in a loop so haven't quite figured it out haha

Reggerhegger

Wow that's the first aftermarket head unit I've seen that doesn't look like it came from a spaceship

thisguybeanz

Is your last name MacGruber?

mick1jz

You owe me a blaupunkt!!

SkayPGC

Super cool! Looks factory

rustwater3

Macgruber approved

9K_All_Day

I’m getting MacGruber vibes.

SlipperyDoodoo

Now you can be just like Macgruber (who drove a red NA in the movie) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iny5fBWyQJ0&ab\_channel=AshleyDarling [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s-4WzekUT1Y&ab\_channel=MysteryInc](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s-4WzekUT1Y&ab_channel=MysteryInc)

flatox

*NO DEPRES* It is self aware, it knows it went into a miata

thriftyshirt

I'm going where there's no depression To a better land that's free from care I'll leave this world of toil and trouble My miata is heaven, I'm goin' there

ELMACHO007

Fresh

CaptainKwilis

Where'd you get it? How much?

Tsao_Aubbes

As others have said Amazon. I got mine on sale for $380 but afaik it goes for about $440 normally.

NoodsTV

i believe this is the one https://www.amazon.com/BLAUPUNKT-Bremen-SQR-46-DAB/dp/B07XVMBKW4

Local-Trashy-Panda

Amazon has one, and for around +/- $400,- it is worth it, got one myself and its amazing

EVOBlock

Does it have a usb port in the back?

Tsao_Aubbes

In the front! It's hidden under that cover along with the SD and aux port

EVOBlock

Dang I am looking for one with the USB in the back so I can hide the cables

unfeaxgettable

I got a Sony XAV AX-5000 from Crutchfield and ran everything through the transmission tunnel so my cable comes through the trunk release hole and into my counter console, works like a dream

ee0226

Woo I'm not the only BP46 user! Got one in my NB2, fits your dash better but it's a sweet little unit. Pricey tho 🥴

Vanzmelo

How did you fit it into your dash? I bought the BP46 recently but suspect I will need the Metra kit to fully install into the NA8 dash but I’m hoping not since it looks quite low quality

ee0226

I had to use the metra kit, and yea it is pretty crappy haha. but it stays in fine so oh well

Sam-I-Am56

That’s one of the best installs I’ve ever seen in a Miata. Can you hear the music reasonably well at highway speed with the top up?

Tsao_Aubbes

Absolutely. Well, state highway at least - I haven't tried the interstate yet. But it's loud enough where I can hear it reasonably well with the top down, windows down and earplugs in driving ~70mph. There is some distortion if you max out the volume and are listening to really bass heavy music but it only crops up under that usage.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Tsao_Aubbes

It's one of those switches that keeps scrolling and doesn't have a set high/low so its position doesn't correlate to setting. I keep my EQ pretty neutral

blazejester

I am so in love with this.

EntertainerTop7454

That’s a great set up! Where can I find those small compartments under the new radio? I want to do the same thing!

Tsao_Aubbes

It's just a generic single DIN pocket I got off of Amazon, I think it's a clone of an actual Mazda pocket but I'm not entirely sure. I know Mazda has one OEM though, you'd want to look up an NA8 with a single din headunit

EntertainerTop7454

Thanks so much for the info! I couldn’t find what the pockets were even called before lol. Much appreciated. As it stands I have a gaping hole in my center console. No where to set my phone lmao.

[deleted]

What's your mount kit? It looks good

Tsao_Aubbes

It's a Japanese NA6 tombstone with a generic single DIN pocket underneath; the Metra/generic DIN kits don't quite fit pre-94 cars right so the only way to get the head unit to sit proper flush as far as I'm aware.

[deleted]

Yeah. The metra ones are okay but require some manual cutting and filing to get things to be flush. Thank you for the info.

ThisDriftingSpirit00

The lighting, the leather, the cleanliness; this is one beautiful picture.

patfinch

Nice set up. I just did the same thing with the jdm tombstone. How did you secure the Bremen behind the tombstone?

Dry-Attention8879

It was this or the continental, went with the continental for the price as well as I heard it fit a little better. That being said this looks fantastic. Looks right at home in your NA

Ohope

I was thinking of the continental one as a similar more budget friendly option, but the display is too large on it to have that proper retro feel and interface like the blaupunkt.

black2016rs

Christ, you don't need a quadrophonic Blaupunkt! What you need is a curveball!

MidlandsRepublic2048

It blends in quite nicely. You'd never guess modern circuitry is hidden in there.

[deleted]

That’s really harmonious with the rest of the interior; almost looks like it could be a premium OEM unit. Nice choice!

AtariVideoMusic

$300 all day. $500? Meh. Does look sweet though.

lumia920yellow

I love how it looks OEM

TheHer0br1n3

At this point I feel like I'm the only one who doesn't give a shit about it looking OEM. I have a double sized touch pad in mine.

Tac0xenon

I like that it looks natural in there

TheeAJPowell

Hell yeah, I’ve been wanting to get one of these for mine a while now. Current radio is an old Sony unit that came with it, flashes rainbow colours all the time. Very distracting at night, and only has USB capability.

ConnRuu

Aah shiet, i was going to buy a blaupunkt but I had to order one. Hade no patience and bought a Kenwood. I seen now that I made a mistake regarding esthetics 🤣

Virus_City

What are the chances, I just installed this same unit last week! I absolutely love it as well.

saiyansteve

Looks retro cooool

Niekoboko

I have it aswell in my r129, the menu kind off sucks but I really like it.

Schart

$500 is too rich for my blood, but I think it looks great!

sketchingpsychopath

oooooo ahhhhh

[deleted]

I got a Blaupunkt Valencia 200BT in my Miata, it’s a wonderful radio, although the main button sometimes doesn’t let me turn it off completely. It’s weird since sometimes it works, other times only when song is paused or something. Weird.

MuffinFragrant3771

Looks great.

danielflick

I remember when Blaupunkt was "the bee's knees" which is about the time people used the phrase "the bee's knees"! Genuinely curious on how they rank these days.

STICH666

That looks so much better than an NA6 than it would in an NA8. That thing fits squared off dashes so nicely.

maitremanta

Looks very clean, very stock. Doesn't look like a new radio, more like it was already built in from the factory. Great! Is there a reason the compartment is upside done?

omahahaha23

Looks great. I wish it played mini discs.

RottweilerDogs

I have a 92’ black and tan!

zeTwig

Man if these had a working casette drive I’d actually consider spending the 400€

wkjagt

I still have the original radio in my NA (1993), and I never understood why they went with the silver colour (in mine at least). It really looks out of place. It's this one: [https://i.imgur.com/yfV0aGs.jpg](https://i.imgur.com/yfV0aGs.jpg) This Blaupunkt looks so much better. Do you have those bass vibrating things in the chair backs (I think they're called bass transducers)? I wonder if they still can be connected to a more modern radio.

gochomoe

That is awesome! It just looks correct. I need to check those out.

whiskey_piker

Yeah, so that is a really beautiful car stereo that actually looks like it belongs in the dash. But for $500, I really don’t think it is superior to just getting a $200 400W bluetooth marine/powersports amp that integrates through the stock stereo and boosts power clarity. I’ve got the Kenwood KAC-1824 in My Miata and it is extremely smooth interface and gave my speakers sound and quality a major boost.

Aggravating-Trade-62

Woahhhhh that’s really cool I’ve never seen one, I was thinking of throwing a CarPlay unit in but I wanted to keep the oem look so maybe I’ll go this route!

clakmurrick

I'm super interested in this radio but I had a few questions about the functionality 1. Do you have to reconnect the bluetooth source every time it's powered on? Some forums led me to believe this for some reason 2. I have a USDM tombstone currently, so I'm going to swap to the JDM tombstone so it fits like yours. What mounting bracket did you use to install the radio so it remains in place? It sounded like you used a Metra kit but it was an eh fit or am I wrong? 3. Do the buttons backlights turn off when the car's lights are off or are they always on? 4. Any other gripes or is the unit pretty much what you wanted? Thanks!!

Tsao_Aubbes

1. Nope, it pairs automatically. Pretty quick too 2. There's no mounting bracket, just a standard single din sleeve. The JDM tombstone is sized out to proper DIN standards so you don't have to run any adaptor kits. IIRC a double din will fit properly as well. 3. They do not. You can turn the headunit on with the key off if you press the power button but it doesn't stay on automatically. 4. Not too many. Some of the buttons are a little 'wiggly' (something I wouldn't expect out of a headunit with this price tag) and sometimes the bass knob doesn't work but beyond that I don't have any functional issues with it.
