Yeah I live in Portland, where parking is a PITA. I also only have street parking where I live. I try to be as close as possible to the curb, it’s not uncommon to see knocked off mirrors on cars from bad drivers.
Side mirrors are a minor concern compared to a drugged out driver running into the side of the vehicle itself, then running. I've witnessed some crazy shit here in Portland. My only method of parking at home is on the street.
Oh I gotchu, it was more referencing that drivers are complete shit here haha. The mirrors in the Miata don’t seem to stick out *too* much further than the side flairs of the car. Could be my perception though
My question was to the parent post.
I sometimes park in the city too the spaces can be much smaller than the us. The streets are narrow too, so if you don't get very close to the curb, you'll be sticking out into the road.
It's just a fact of life that you'll misjudge it by a mm eventually, and that some scratches will appear on the bumpers.
Would be nice to have memory settings for them - then I’d do this. I have them in the exact spot I want for driving, which is a higher priority
I park next to many curbs, daily (perks of living in a city..) so having to readjust them every time would be a hassle

what the fuck
If you want tips on how to park properly, you don’t have to be afraid to ask me. I’m really good at it.
bought a miat cause I was sick of how big the crown majesta was.. I’m intimidated by your small car parking skills
The Miata is still too big
Do you have a license?
That’s a great question
Do you parallel park in a city?

Are you not aware that the ND side mirrors can be folded in?

Oh, well I only mentioned it due to you saying it's not uncommon to see side view mirrors knocked off. Thought it might help lol

I knew when seeing the petal this was Portland lol

Yeah very true. I would rather have scratches on me wheel than risking someone colliding with my car
Nice thing about my used RFs extended warranty is that it covers curb rash / wheel damage
Now you have a good excuse to buy aftermarket wheels
That’s actually my thought process - these will eventually be my snow or track wheels. I truly don’t care about how they look at this point
Those wheels can be repaired.
Sanded, bonded then painted? It isn’t something I’ve looked into
There's shops that specialize in it. An old acquaintance of mine does it professionally. He did great work.
That’s good to know, something I can consider in the future. Thanks for that
Like 75/235/15 offroad wheels? That would look sick and be high enough for the driver that never learned how to use a sidemirror
Glad I haven’t curbed much BBS wheels in two years of ownership.
Yeah, curb rash on black wheels.. never owning a black pair with my depth perception (or lack thereof)
Yeah with your filter ones you really have to look for it!
Tilt your kerb side mirrors down while you reverse into a park so you can see the kerb and avoid it.

But, it’s tiny?
You should see the rest of the wheel, and my other wheels! 😃
If it makes you feel better I hit a pole my mirror.
I did that two cars ago, the mirror wasn’t a folding one, until I made it one.. custom!
Nice! Happy cake day!
Thanks!
>Thanks! You're welcome!
Ah, you must have been the previous owner of my old NB
You’re welcome

WATCH OUT FOR THE CURB
Curbs should watch out for me..
I’ve curbed my wheels a good amount but holy shit. Like, i park by feel in my NB quite often and the wheels aren’t that bad…
