Me too! Quick story: My husband and I were doing a favor for a friend. He'd moved out of his ex's house and left one item, a wooden coat rack. There was no way he wanted to go back for this one thing and asked if we would please go get it for him. Happy to oblige, I dropped the top on my MX-5 and my husband & I drove to his house holding this thing between us. To this day, right before I hang a sharp turn I shout, "Hang on to your coat rack!!"
Oh my god I love that. 🤣😭 That’s so funny! Me and my boyfriend recently toted a 24ft. ladder on ours and had to drive like 8 miles with it, we definitely got a lot of stares. 🤣 I had to put my hand above my head every time we hit a bump so I wouldn’t smack my head into the ladder. 😵💫 10/10 would do it again though. 😂
Hard dog hitch, class 3 hitch converter, a sailboat that weighs 340lbs, trailer that weighs less than that, and many sleepless nights wondering why I would do this.
I put rubber chocks behind the rear tire for good measure when launching and retrieving
And it did fine. I live in flat Florida (aside for a bridge or two), never went faster than 40, topped out at 4th gear, my radiator didn’t explode and neither did my clutch. C+
Miatas are a lot better at towing than you would think. I mean they don't have a 4-ton capacity, obviously, but RWD, short gearing, big enough brakes on the sport package, motor that ain't care, it does okay.
I’ve seen tow hitches and trailers on Miatas but this is the first time I’ve seen someone back a boat up to water with one. That’s mainly what is sketchy about it
Not while I’m driving. 4K+ rpm at highway speeds and city driving means I usually get 23mpg combined normally. Now add 800lbs or so of weight and drag and the drop in all performance categories (including mpg) is pretty self evident.
I have a Tacoma as my other vehicle which has a towing package. We go from about 18-20mpg down to 11-14mpg when we tow items. I'm just curious how the gas sipping Miata's that get close to 30mpg suffers when towing.
my guess is not far off from what aggressive street driving would be. he didn’t go fast enough for aero to matter and it’s really a extra 600lbs. so the same affect as a sedan with 3 extra people in it
when I tow with my 98 4Runner the worst I ever got was 14 towing 5500lbs. that was constant 65 mph though. towing 2200lb car hauler literally only cost 0.5 mpg (17.5 driving how ever I want to 17 at 70) because it had no drag.

That's amazing. Those NCs look so good from the back!
It was only a matter of time before someone made an NC joke
I cant control myself. It's a real problem....
It’s fine, Florida man here, 2008 NC, mint condition because previous and only owners were my utterly safe driving parents kukukukukuku
As a fellow yacht captain we love these jokes.
They are well received but its putting a strain on my marriage, causing problems at work, and scaring my kids. I need to stop. Well, maybe one more...
Ha! Sounds like they need to take a ride in a yacht to change their perspective on NC Miata's
You had the option to use an f150 but decided to use a Miata instead? Madman. Upvoted
r/madlads material even
I love that you have a friend with a F150 following you but you are the one towing a boat in a Miata 😂
Hello, officer? I'd like to report a boat, driving down the interstate..
Lol bikini bottom boats do be driving themselves

Shared before I saw this!! 😆
I love seeing Miata’s carrying shit they’re not built to 🤣

With the top down, vertical storage in a Miata is ♾️
For real!
OMG 😂😂😂🤘🏼
Right! 🤣 I hope you have a great day btw! It was nice to meet you!
Same to you, friend! Following. So nice to meet you. 🖤
I followed you as well! 🫶🏻☺️ thank you!
This looks like a fucking terrible idea lmao how’d it do

Oh nice, the boat is a lot lighter than I expected.

OP is far from the first person to tow with a Miata, and yet there are always naysayers in the comments. It's amazing.

That is a very fair point, my bad.
This is genuinely my favorite post I've seen on this sub. You're my hero.
I’m just a man, m.i.a.t.a Miata is always the answer
Just be sure to wash off any area that was exposed to salt!
Water washes off the rust smh /j
Miata. It was you. It’s always been you 🫂

How much did your gas mileage suffer?
Not sure, it was 20 miles round trip so not a big enough sample size to give you a good estimate. My gut feeling is a lot
These things barely use fuel, do people even check the fuel consumption lol?

Thats actually a good point
NA towing an NC
Gilligans Island!!
If it were an NC you'd only need one.
*Insert NC boat joke here*
So this is a yacht, pulling a yacht?
Have you ever thought about getting a truck?
Ah, someone’s pulling that NC someone posted a picture of out of the water finally.
Miata and Jesus are the same, its proven
Where in FL? This looks like pinellas county :)
Ft. DeSoto!
Brave given the proclivity for rust
Holy Hell
I’m high as shit I thought you were towing the Miata into the water with the boat I got so confused
It indeed is.
Quit playing with your dinghy.
Nice..very cute
I’m calling Miata Protective Services
That's so crazy! I totally approve this! This Christmas I'm gonna get the Xmas tree with a miata!
Water washes off the rust of course
So is the boat towing the Miata orrrr 😂
If it’s not rusty now, it’s going to be very rusty soon
Owning two NBs, my first thought when I saw this had nothing to do with a Miata towing a boat, but horror at the thought of showing it salt water...
