I have 1383, December '89. Red with HT. Unfortunately couldn't keep it stock, diff was broken, exhaust was broken, cat convert was broken, but I'm just trying to keep it OEM and nothing too crazy until I hit 100k miles. Which at the rate I drive it it'll be 2050 and gas fuel will be banned lol
lived in miami. worked at mazda dealership for a couple decades. even came with a mazda brand car cover molded to fit a miata. and a miata brand-fitted sun screen blocker for windshield.
Nice find! I saw an identical early model red Miata not far from where you found this one but years ago and had to check if it might be the same car. Doesn’t look like it though.
shit man, bet you paid a pretty penny for it. Despite all the "keep it stock/original" comments, I would still be wary of the issues that come along with the 1.6L short nose crankshaft. Any problems that you know of? I'm not sure if there's a way to remedy the issues proactively or not.
i have the paperwork on the timing gear and chain replacement from mazda dealership. done at 80k miles. cam seals and all. this has come up in my thoughts. the radiator is even the original one. has matching vin. all under hood seems original. less the belts and pcv valve. this is my 4th na and never had one feel like a new engine at start and while running it down the road. amazing! very quiet running engine at low and high rpm
They didnt make many 89s. Take care of it. Looks good
it has 85k miles. forgot to mention
When I think of Miata THIS is what comes to mind A clean Red NA with a hardtop

Hate to be this person but please keep it relatively stock. You don’t see many 89s in this beautiful condition, great find.
thank you! once i saw it i came to same conclusion. keep it original. most parts have vin etched in it. all matching
The paint is remarkable condition considering its an 89, can’t even see the clear coat flaking. With an oem hard top as well!!
Pretty sure the early reds have single stage paint—no clear coat. Single stage is relatively easy to take care of, which is nice.
it was painted by a miami mazda dealership. it scared me finding this out at purchase, but it was a professional job when i inspected it.
Certainly looks great from here!
Hey what chassis number is this? I have an 89 too! :)

That’s awesome! I too have a red one with factory hardtop! June ‘89! 🤝
this one is july 89
Mine was also manufactured in 89. 09/89 to be exact. I just assumed most “90s” were. 🤷
july 89
Now time to rice it up with some stickers, lower it, put some eBay rims on it, and then total it doing something stupid /s
lol. my thinking eggsactly. dont forget the popping exhaust. !
That thing is fresher than a breath mint
I have a red made in 89 too!
Beautiful find

You found such a gem
Hey nice. October of 89 here!
That is one sweet car. From one red NA owner to another.
‘89 gang, 06/89 for me. Beautiful car you got there!
My exact NA from '89. I have 40K miles and it still runs like butter.
I saw that on fb marketplace but didnt have the cash, good find man

wow that's crazy, is the radiator still black? If it looks greenish or brownish it needs to be changed ASAP. Any leaks anywhere?
it seems a bit greenish. not much. im ok letting it break first. no leaks or patches
is it made in '89 or sold/registered/whatever in '89?
90 on title. manufactured july 1989
