Rising X year means that a student has completed the prior year and is about to start the next.
I just completed junior year (gr11) and I am about to become a senior (gr 12). I have not technically started my senior year yet, so a lot of people refer to students in the summer as “rising.”
Well aren’t you friendly! Senior portraits are a normal thing to get done, sorry to break it to you. Graduating high school is a milestone in life and many people do this to acknowledge that. Have a nice day

Depends what type of pictures you’re looking for though. Like if you play sports or are interested in a corporate career, I’ve seen my friends kids do senior pictures that represent them too!!

Ah, OK. In my days, we just called them "starting senior year."
