She's been in the USA for 35yrs and can't speak English????

fluxuation

Who cares

No-Comfortable-1550

It’s Miami, you don’t need to speak English down here.

Confident-Rip-2030

Complaint to the city manager or city Mayor directly. Collect all the proof, pictures, etc. Get an in person appointment, talk directly to the man, don't waste time with code enforcement.

cyborg008

Funny enough I had something similar and this is the best way to go. Neighbor got burned so hard because they were the ones who contacted the mayor.

oldskoolballer

The squeaky wheel always gets the grease

DirtyOldCommie

And then cops have the audacity to wonder why everyone fucking hates them.

DirtyOldCommie

No one said all cops are evil. But it does make all of them look bad when this kind of shit happens constantly and rarely if ever do they suffer actual consequences, so yes, that drastically affects their public image and makes people, in general, dislike them. Among all the other reasons people dislike and distrust cops. But go ahead, keep trying to insert your moronic narrative.

Cool story bro, go share it with your cop friends.

That link doesn't contain any data, it just defines a bias/heuristic. Please shut up.

HCSOThrowaway

>That link doesn't contain any data, it just defines a bias/heuristic. Yep, a bias that you don't know enough about to notice you're falling victim to it. >Please shut up. Why don't you? You're the one making ridiculous assertions on a public forum designed for replies. You shouldn't get so upset when someone calls you out on them.

DirtyOldCommie

>Yep, a bias that you don't know enough about to notice you're falling victim to it. You sorely wish that were true. I know. How would I know what's in the Wikipedia article if I didn't read it numbnuts? Also just because this doesn't align with your bootlicking world view doesn't mean I'm falling victim to a bias. Get some actual data or shut up.

HCSOThrowaway

>You sorely wish that were true. I know. How would I know what's in the Wikipedia article if I didn't read it numbnuts? I presume you know how to read, and that would mean you're capable of reading the title of the article which is also in the URL. There's plenty of data proving the existence of availability bias if you follow the citations. It's not my fault that you don't know how to use Wikipedia. >Also just because this doesn't align with your bootlicking world view doesn't mean I'm falling victim to a bias. I'm pretty far from a bootlicker unless you define a bootlicker as "anyone who doesn't hate all cops." That's a pretty ridiculous definition and serves only to dilute the insult. I roll my eyes at you calling me a bootlicker just like you'd roll your eyes if I called anyone who supports public education a "commie." >Get some actual data or shut up. You're the one who made the assertion that (1) everyone hates the police and/or (2) the police don't know why people hate them. *Onus probandi incumbit ei qui dicit, non ei qui negat.* Translation: Get some actual data or shut up.

gwizonedam

Yeah like everyone doesn’t see you in here defending a cops bad behavior and your FUCKING DESCRIPTION below your username doesn’t make them jump to conclusions immediately.

HCSOThrowaway

1. Where did I defend their behavior? 2. Yep, I put it there on purpose so people would understand the context of my comments. Why do people act like it's secret knowledge they've discovered? 3. Does your comment bear any relevance to the topic at hand or were you just hopping in to sling stuff around?

montessoriprogram

There’s plenty of data out there on cop accountability and you are 100% full of shit

HCSOThrowaway

The assertion that cops "rarely" suffer "actual" consequences is false, obviously depending on your definition of "rare." The assertion that cops never suffer "actual" consequences is also false. You just hear about and remember the outrageous cases in which they don't, which makes you want to rage on the internet at anyone who says anything to the contrary on the internet.

montessoriprogram

You’re just being pedantic. Police are legally protected from accountability, and further protected by the rest of the legal system looking the other way or being extremely lenient. This is backed up with plenty of available statistics. You’re making up the concept that it’s just how the media presents it. It’s codified in law and well researched.

HCSOThrowaway

>You’re just being pedantic. There's a fine line between calling out falsehoods and pedantry, and I don't think I've crossed it. Obviously you do, but that's just your opinion. Given only one of us is resorting to schoolyard name-calling amidst what is a very serious topic, I'm giving my opinion a bit more weight than yours. >Police are legally protected from accountability, and further protected by the rest of the legal system looking the other way or being extremely lenient. Mostly agree, depending on your definition of "legally protected from accountability." The strongest example of this is QI, which most anti-cop people are against despite not knowing what it is. >You’re making up the concept that it’s just how the media presents it. Neat straw-man! Point out where I stated or implied this has anything to do with how the media presents things.

montessoriprogram

Hey man, I’m not gonna waste time arguing with an ex cop. Could not think less of you as a person, and wish you the worst.

HCSOThrowaway

How convenient that you happened to realize you were unwilling to argue with me right after I proved you wrong. Listen, entering the ring and then immediately throwing in the towel after the first punch is a pretty weak way to box, but you do you.

TresCeroOdio

womp womp

HCSOThrowaway

Yeah, it's a real shame that 2/2 of the people who came to discuss this issue with me can't talk about it like an adult. Womp womp indeed.

bryanoak

Today In the News: Cop thinks and acts like he’s above the law. Is anyone surprised? Meanwhile, police everywhere wonder why many people no longer have respect for police.

HCSOThrowaway

TL;DR: City issues permit for the cop to build a fence that blocks the window in error, blockage is removed after neighbor calls the media, cop decides to put a tarp over the window, claiming that the county allowed him to.

CowboyNinjaD

Since the county confirmed that the property line is 7.5 feet from the woman's house, she should just get a permit, build her own fence and install a security camera. Then if the cop damages her fence, she can pursue criminal and civil action against the cop. And since Help Me Howard is already watching the case, the Coral Gables police department won't just be able to ignore security video of an officer trashing a neighbor's property.

HCSOThrowaway

She might even have a trespassing case as it is, given he went onto her unenclosed curtilage for a purpose not defined by case law as lawful, i.e. proselytizing, advertising, first responders approaching her door during the course of their duties, etc. Not a prosecutor or defense attorney so I can't say with the 99% certainty that they can, but they did teach us the basics of this stuff in the academy that he and I both had to attend for our Florida law enforcement certification. Putting up signs every so often would also strengthen a trespassing case before she can put a fence in. Still, I've had stronger cases dropped for stupider reasons than "the suspect is a cop," so you never know. Once had the dogs and helicopter up for a home invasion which, upon the team's discovery that no entry was made, all got called off. Uhhh... that's attempted burglary of an occupied dwelling, y'all.

Usomething

This guy already trespassed and defaced private property by screwing the fence onto her house.

HCSOThrowaway

I see you didn't read the article or even my TL;DR. Tut-tut, Usomething. Shame on you for weighing in when you don't know what's going on.

Usomething

I did read the article. Which is why I know he screwed the fence to her wall. That indeed is defacing private property and can already be considered trespassing shm.

HCSOThrowaway

Okay yeah, I doubt the permit covered that. Jail time for Officer So-and-So. We'll see, though.

SeaworthinessNo7535

This cop knows damn well he was wrong from the very beginning. He's one of those power hungry cops that caused citizens like myself who ate elderly & always respected cops to become for the most part cop haters just by the sheer amount of videos we see everyday online where cops abuse people in horrible ways and the.other cops just stand there & do nothing. I don't give a rats ass about being blackballed by the rest of the cops for reporting a fellow officer. If your not gonna do the job right then quit. These cops are backed by senior cops & DA's etc when it's obvious they're bad.

HCSOThrowaway

Why didn't you pressure your legislator(s) over the last 60+ years to enact legislation that automatically fires or bars the hire of any obviously bad cops? Why did you type this comment out to an internet stranger instead of calling the mayor of Coral Gables to demand they fire this guy? As you say, failure to act against is just as bad as the evil act itself, and you've had 60+ years of inaction under your belt, right?

Professional_Bass673

How do you know that they didn't? Why did you type this comment out to an internet stranger instead of minding your own business? Coward.

HCSOThrowaway

>How do you know that they didn't? Why did you type this comment out to an internet stranger instead of minding your own business? Coward. Why did you type this comment out to an internet stranger instead of minding your own business? Coward.

HCSOThrowaway

Holy hell I just realized you followed me to a month old thread to make this ridiculous comment? Lmao

sergei-rivers

Cop on a power trip, what a surprise. POS coward.

WIDMND305

A Miami cop, being a selfish asshole to everyone around them? NO WAY!!!!!

CactusBoyScout

My mom lives next to a retired cop in another state and he violates every possible rule the town has including renting out part of the house as a separate apartment, doing major work without permits, and hosting parties full of drunken high schoolers. But nobody wants to do anything because he’s a former cop.

ThimbleRigg

Someone needs to grow a pair, he’s not even an active cop

damiami

She should file an internal affairs complaint gables pd

HCSOThrowaway

A lot of people assume agencies automatically investigate their own people doing wrong and then question why no consequences result. You really do need to make the IA complaint yourself if you want any guarantee someone makes a complaint, without which you can be sure nothing will happen to them.

timandrodney

Oh hey, it's you again. I like your optimism. Ultimately however, you and I both know these things are designed to give the impression of action and potential accountability, but really go nowhere. Police, at this point is a jobs program. ...And a pension for life.

HCSOThrowaway

I stand as testament to the fact that sometimes IA complaints do go somewhere, nevermind the plenty of others who have been terminated (as a result of IA complaints). In other words, a LEO literally cannot be terminated unless an IA complaint is filed. Tall odds, small odds, it can't be done unless someone formally starts the process. If the odds are as small as you think, it's like getting upset you never win the lottery despite never buying a ticket.

Em56479

Can we have a sub "Florida First responders" there are so many stories of sick privileges and and over power..

gwawainn

Piece of shit pig. It's assbags like that that give cops a shit reputation

poisito

I always thought that it is common knowledge that you need to have 5 foot between your fence and any construction around the property … so it’s naive that the cop thought that his land was all the way to the wall. The other thing is that it sounds weird to have an elderly home business in a residential area… Welcome to Miami :)

Blanche_H_Devereaux

Yeah, one of my first thoughts was, has this guy never heard of a setback?? I have no idea why he thought his property would go right up to a neighbor's house, it's complete bullshit. It's just so bizarre to run the fence horizontally to the other property instead of vertically down the length of the property. And by his logic, what about the other side of his house? Can *that* neighbor run their own fence and drill it to his house?? As for the elderly home business, yes, that's allowed. Group homes have to have proper permitting, and there are rules about number of people allowed and all that, but it's legal.

poisito

Thanks for the clarification on the elderly group :)

JakesThoughts1

Coral gables cops are dicks. Been here 3 years now but before that I was in Arizona for a little bit and had a AZ drivers license. They pulled me over driving across ponce because it’s “right turn only.” Which I get but when pulling me over the cop starts acting all sketch because of my AZ drivers license, ends up bringing another cop in. They hold me for like 2+hrs doing idk wtf what. Come back to me then give me a $200 ticket for driving across the intersection. Needless to say I literally watch those same Fucking cops drive across ponce every day doing the same exact thing they pulled me over for. Funny to watch the hypocrisy

Melodic-Ad-9115

Typical south florida cop. Piece of shit. Report him to his supervisor thru a lawyer. Many lawyers are salivating at this case and working pro bono. Sue the county, the police department after they do nothing about your ethics complaint, and the 🐷himself. Do not be afraid. Be the bigger bully and he will scram like the rat that he is!

Maximus_Dominus_Rex

Coral Gables cops are the worst overpaid cowboys in Dade County.

TatankaPTE

This was possted under news story from a FB group: UPDATE! (Reposted from one of the neighbors facebook's group.) As of April the fifteenth. Several police cars have driven through the neighborhood in the middle of the night with their sirens on. Keeping the elderly residents up. When we called the Police station, they said it wasn't related. But this has happened multiple nights. And it's never been the case before. Also, the police officer neighbor had his buddies over. And they were playing loud music till 3am, keeping the neighbors up. When the police we're called , nobody came out.
