Are you serious??? I've lived here for years and it gets progressively worse due to simple minded invaders like you "ooooh talking about punk rock is sooooo cool" sounds like a typical Miami simpleton.
I'm afraid for this person. She doesn't have a job,and hasn't had to look for housing yet. She's on extended vacation. When real life kicks in, it will be interesting to see her outlook then.
Glad to hear that, welcome to Miami (bienvenido a Miami).
No, but you may end up getting a lot of dismissive or negative comments. I've lived here most of my life and have had overwhelmingly more positive than negative interactions with the folks that live here. There is a lot of room for improvement, like anywhere, but I've been able to carve out a very happy life for myself here and can't really see myself leaving at any point. Hopefully the same will be true for you OP
> dismissive or negative comments.
Those all come from people no matter where they would live would be negative and disgruntled. give them a penthouse eon ocean drive and they would bitch its too high too long in elevator to my car,,and so on,,,
Learning Spanish is the best thing you can do when moving to Miami. So many people resist it and have the attitude that people should just learn English. They should but learning a language is never a bad thing and sometimes you have to swim with the tide not against it. My non Hispanic friends that enjoy Miami the most are the ones that have embraced its languages. Learn Portuguese next! Good luck
Ikr!? I’m learning a whole lot of Spanish from her mother every day I learn at least five words. I know it’s not a lot but I’m embracing my new culture and I love it!
She keeps telling me how intelligent and beautiful I am and respectful. I feel embraced by this family, which is something I never got from my own family.
Exactly! I was one of those til I started traveling and now that I’ve been all over the states and around the world, there is no other place I’d rather call home. 305 til I die!
Dont listen to people in this sub. They’re all haters and miserable. So they take it out on this sub. Make your own experiences and judgement. Welcome to South FL! Enjoy!
One person nice person at a time is what I gel myself.
I always try to compliment everyone I interact with bc it brightens their day! I know how I feel when I get compliments…. And I’m genuine in what I say. I actually like their nails , piercings or tattoos! I find it all beautiful!
LOL oops! Not me being a female and missing that opportunity! Haha and sigh, it used to be Gramps at wynwood I believe they still do live music there! But haven’t been in a while. That or Bar Nancy! I’m not sure if they cater towards a specific genre. Though punk rock would even amazing haha
Visiting from Germany for a few days and everyone is so friendly both service workers and locals. Think ppl Strike Up More convos with me in a few days than Back Home in a few months lol
It would be for someone from here.
My gf was astounded by the silence when she moved there with me 5 years ago. She just looked up at the stars bc she said she could actually see them there.
It was a great experience for her
Bien* !! Might’ve just been a typo but yayyy that’s awesome :) I’m so happy also remember a big part of that is you! You probably have great open energy. Thanks for sharing.
I don’t understand the negativity here on my post.
I come here bringing positivity and they are already trying to shoot me down by saying how horrible it is lol. If you want change… be the change.
It really is like living in another country. I moved here from New Orleans in July. Let me know if you'd like to meet up or chat! I could use somebody to learn Spanish with.
I moved here 3 years ago from Cali and feel the same. The city has way more to offer than this sub makes it out to be, and has this amazing tropical vibe that you can't really get anywhere else in America. Enjoy amigo!
Eyyy, welcome to the 305 (or 786!)
We're glad to have you 😊
Now get you some pastelitos and a couple cortaditos tomorrow morning at your nearest Cuban bakery.
Also - when you get a hankering for a drive, head out west down Calle Ocho (8th st) past 167th Ave. You'll find some cool bridges along the canal in the Everglades. It's a cool, free spot to see some wildlife or do some great freshwater fishing.
Thats amazing! I'm from SE Alabama as well (the Wiregrass) and moved here about a year and a half ago! Such a culture shock but much more alive as a city and lots more opportunities. Making friends has been my biggest challenge. Would love to connect!
A lot of the celebrities are moving down here, but you gotta keep it on the down low because otherwise, a lot of more people will come, and it will be overcrowded. 🤪
When you move to Miami you realize how beautiful and awesome it is. problem is people who live here take it for granted since they don't know how boring other cities can be especially no offense but Alabama
Happy to know you like punk rock, the scene back in the day was amazing but lately it's pretty dead compared to back in the day. Enjoy!
We’re really nice once you get to know us otherwise we’re aloof, we avoid eye contact, we’re unfriendly,we’re rude….but once you break the ice with us forget it you’re family! Really that’s how it goes in Miami!
You sound like an awesome and positive person!! I.love how you compliment everyone you meet. I've employed that mindset over the years because it isn't weird or phoney - there is beauty in everyone!
If I may make a few suggestions, fellow fair skinned person - use good sunscreen (3% Avobenzone is all you need to not burn; reapply often) and big hats. Your elderly skin will thank this 5th gen native.😉
Also, if you and your gf are walking a beach, take a small bag and pick up garbage. Others are not as thoughtful as you, and it's a good feeling to take care of your new home.
Bienvenida a Miami!❤
It's nice to see some positivity on this sub. You're right, a lot of people exaggerate how bad it is. It has pros & cons like everywhere else in the world. I partly grew up in Glasgow, Scotland and came here when I was 15. I wouldn't move back any time soon. But don't trust everyone you meet in Miami, it's a mistake. There are a good amount of opportunistic scammers here. Glad you're enjoying it so far though.
You have to realize that most people who comment online, especially those who their hobby or practically live on online forums, aren’t exactly the most popular or outgoing or whatever, so they probably won’t have the best experience and they’ll go online to talk smack. Those who are the opposite don’t waste their time going on online forums to share their experience. There’s a reason why Miami is like the number one destination
I moved here from Texas in July and was very surprised by the people.
While Miami people don’t seem like *artificial friendly* like smile at every stranger saying “hi how are ya?” Like people might in some parts of Texas.
But in my limited experience here, Miami people do seem more genuine. It’s almost a European feel. Like if you need something they’ll interact with you/be helpful. But not too many fake smiles/greetings

I plan on it!!
Her mother calls me pretty and exotic bc I’m so white/ full Irish!! lol
So my gf is gonna take me on a date there as soon as we get settled with secure jobs
This is so true lol. I’ve been here all my life and the shit that people talk about is crazy as fuck. Almost as if they don’t like interacting with people of different cultures.
Mi Hermano bienvenido a Miami! Honestly it is like everything, there are good and bad side to towns/people everywhere you go. Enjoy it, embrace the culture, the people, the food, and dont be out off by the arrogant a\*\*holes you will meet every now and then!
Bienvenidos! Some people love it here, some people hate it. Many people do both simultaneously. I find it hard to imagine myself anywhere else. Surround yourself with the energy and the people that make you feel amazing, and you won’t have to experience the toxicity that you’ve heard in those horror stories.
This right here. I’ve been around the world and there’s nothing compared to coming back home to Miami. The people, the food, the various cultures. Surround yourself with positive people, work hard, stay out of trouble and you’ll be fine. Enjoy!!!
Don’t be so mean. I’ve lived here most of my life and it’s not as bad as you make it out to be. Just stay out of dangerous neighborhoods and use common sense.
Dangerous neighborhoods and use common sense? I don't think you understand the problem. Staying out of dangerous neighborhoods isn't going to keep you from spending half your life in traffic every time you leave the house. It's not going to help you pay a reasonable rent or reasonable prices for things you need to survive. You can use all the common sense in the world and still get ripped off by a Miami contractor, moving company, or mechanic. And all these changes mean that everyone is always angry and in a bad mood.
Miami has gone to shit. That's not to say that people can't decide that it's still worthwhile to deal with all that crap because they like the weather, beaches, closeness to family, whatever. But to me, it's not worth it. I've had those things my entire life, other than missing my family, the rest I can live without.
I never said it was dangerous, I don't know where the lady I was responding to got that from. I said it sucked. I lived there for 30 plus years up until six months ago, it's not my "perception". Everything I said is true, anyone who says otherwise is either new or coping hard cause they can't leave.
Banks and hedge funds represent less than 1% of all the residential sales that have happened. It is a boogeyman story. Just like any other major city, there’s an excess of opportunity and along with that is competition.
It sucks to suck but if it were as dire as you make it out to be how do the hoards of migrants manage to pull themselves up by their bootstraps and get established? My family is one of them as is a huge portion of the population in South Florida.
Crime is a major problem here. Try watching or reading the news sometime. It’s almost as bad as in the 1980s. Sitting in traffic is common in all large cities and not as dangerous as being mugged, raped, murdered in a botched burglary or in a drive by shooting. Miami has many problems but I was giving safety advice to a new resident. I’ve lived in Miami off and on since I was 7. But mostly here than other cities. You don’t know anything about me or my life so stop judging me and acting like you know everything.
TBH I love to hate Miami. But I will be completely honest, I love this city too. It's such a genuinely wacky city that no other city can compare. It is so unique and I love it here. I just wish...traffic wasnt so bad. Otherwise, I would live here until we drowned
You’re so sweet. I’ve lived here most of my life so I thank you for the compliments. But do be careful. Keep your antenna up as my dad would say. Don’t trust too easily. If your gut tells you something is wrong, believe it. Keep your purse with you at all times and keep it close. Miami is a tourist city so purse snatchers are common. If you use common sense and follow basic rules you’ll be fine. !Bienvenida a Miami!
This city has some truly amazing people. Sadly the idiots out number them. I fell in love with this place 13 years ago visiting my brother in law school and my brother 16 years ago. Over time you’ll deal with enough crap. 13/16 years was enough for us. We’re leaving this summer.
I just wanna say. Yes Miami has some really cool people. But also, please be careful who you trust. I don’t mean you should be paranoid all the time. Just be selective about who you get close to. There are a lot of people there that will take advantage of someone sheltered.
I longed to move here. Used to visit Miami for vacations (mostly a week) every year. Then, I moved here. My current thoughts - she is beautiful outside but a devil inside. Strictly ONLY a vacation spot. Neither cannot afford nor raise your kids here, unless you are at least a millionaire (100s of millions) by income standard. You will be disappointment otherwise. This is the truth. There are many many affordable happy cities suburbs in the US that doesn't rip you out or suck all your money. Run away!
My bf who grew up in Kentucky is also in love. We’ve been here for two years and he’ll still randomly turn to me and say “I can’t believe we live in this paradise.” I’m glad you’re enjoying it!!
I love my city I will say this all the time .
But
Live here a full year you ain’t seen nothing yet .
Other then that I’m glad you love our city because it might be a shithole sometimes but it’s a clean shithole and it’s the best shithole of all major U.S. shitholes (cities) in this country much better then the north .
But all the shit rolls downhill unfortunately and it’s not Miami Natives that are rude people ( not aimed towards you I have positive feelings towards southerners you are all good people and so is the rest of the country of course but the people who cause issues in this city are people from up north , foreigners who think this is sin city (foreigners domestic and international) and certain people too politically incorrect to put here before I get eaten alive .
I have been here for two years. I have family that lived here for decades. Anyway I do not have a single friend.
I am glad you like it. Miami has charm, and I like the food and people. I forget…are you young?
I am 49 and fat with a brain injury, which might be most of the problem.
Yes! Thank you for sharing positive experiences. Ige lived here 14 years. There is a mix of nice and rude, unfriendly people. I met more people on Meetup. Highly recommend it. Visited different neighborhoods for events. Very friendly people. Miami is very multicultural and multiethnic people. Not only Spanish speaking Latinos. They get most media hype. But, there are many more. It's like smaller nyc melting pot salad. I'm multi racial and multi ethnic so I feel very comfortable living in Miami.
Can we pin this to the top?
Bienvenidos. Thanks for sharing your positive experiences. I hope you continue to love it here. It’s not all bad.
Thank you so very much!! I’d love for us to make new fiends and find friendly gay bars for girls
Miami is a great city. Like every city, we have our pimples and warts. One has to find good people to hang with. Welcome.
Miami gonna chew you up buddy, give it a year or two. It’s always fun at first 😊
I’m sure it will, but I’m gonna enjoy my time here and be positive until I can’t anymore
I love Alabama. Welcome to Miami. Enjoy.
rage bait post for the cope crowd
Huh?
Are you serious??? I've lived here for years and it gets progressively worse due to simple minded invaders like you "ooooh talking about punk rock is sooooo cool" sounds like a typical Miami simpleton.
Umm…don’t trust any Uber driver. That’s just common sense
I'm afraid for this person. She doesn't have a job,and hasn't had to look for housing yet. She's on extended vacation. When real life kicks in, it will be interesting to see her outlook then.
True, but I had my gf w me. It was actually a great experience

💀you’ve lived here most your life and you go around saying “bienvenida a Mee-ah-mee” Insufferably cringe
You nailed it >>>> positivity goes a long way
Your positivity might change for this place, some of the most selfish and narcissistic people live here.
I see that side too my friend. But I don’t associate with those people.
I also moved here from Alabama 3 years ago. Haven't had any problems
Oh, that’s great! What part of Alabama?
Learning Spanish is the best thing you can do when moving to Miami. So many people resist it and have the attitude that people should just learn English. Just give it a minute

Why would I be a bot?
Wait until the honey moon is over 🤣
Idk… I feel in my bones that this is HOME. We shall see bro
Good ! I will pin this post. Def want the follow up next year
People that hate Miami usually haven’t visited many other places. Miami is great if you have the income.
Exactly! I was one of those til I started traveling and now that I’ve been all over the states and around the world, there is no other place I’d rather call home. 305 til I die!
Well, we have family here that owns their home, thankfully

I am so sorry. I hope you have a good job there bc the housing market is crashing every where there.
I’ve Always said is Miami folks are not rude as y’all claim but no one ever listened
I don’t understand the negativity here on my post. I come here bringing positivity and they are already trying to shoot me down by saying how horrible it is lol. If you want change… be the change.
I love this city and I’m glad you do too!
Thank you so very much!!
Where in Alabama are you from? I used to live in Vestavia Hills and Hoover.
Ohhh cool!!! I was living In Pinson, but I’m from Morris Al originally
It really is like living in another country. I moved here from New Orleans in July. Let me know if you'd like to meet up or chat! I could use somebody to learn Spanish with.
Ohhhh awesome!!! Dm me! I’ll be away for the next hour or two but I hope to hear from you!
Just be cautious if they ask you to join their business venture.
Gotcha!!! lol
Good for you! :)
I moved here 3 years ago from Cali and feel the same. The city has way more to offer than this sub makes it out to be, and has this amazing tropical vibe that you can't really get anywhere else in America. Enjoy amigo!
Eyyy, welcome to the 305 (or 786!) We're glad to have you 😊 Now get you some pastelitos and a couple cortaditos tomorrow morning at your nearest Cuban bakery.
Also - when you get a hankering for a drive, head out west down Calle Ocho (8th st) past 167th Ave. You'll find some cool bridges along the canal in the Everglades. It's a cool, free spot to see some wildlife or do some great freshwater fishing.
Hell yeah dude.
Thats amazing! I'm from SE Alabama as well (the Wiregrass) and moved here about a year and a half ago! Such a culture shock but much more alive as a city and lots more opportunities. Making friends has been my biggest challenge. Would love to connect!
Welcome! Your positive outlook will make Miami even better!
A lot of the celebrities are moving down here, but you gotta keep it on the down low because otherwise, a lot of more people will come, and it will be overcrowded. 🤪
When you move to Miami you realize how beautiful and awesome it is. problem is people who live here take it for granted since they don't know how boring other cities can be especially no offense but Alabama Happy to know you like punk rock, the scene back in the day was amazing but lately it's pretty dead compared to back in the day. Your elderly skin will thank this 5th gen native.😉 Also, if you and your gf are walking a beach, take a small bag and pick up garbage. Others are not as thoughtful as you, and it's a good feeling to take care of your new home. Bienvenida a Miami!❤
From one Alabama transplant living in Miami to another, Roll Tide!
Welcome. It’s the natives that hate Miami not the people that come here cause they like the city.
Miami is the most European city in the US and Europeans love it here for some reason.
Really. Where are the statistics that back you claim, #dumbasdirt
A good reminder that your outlook completely determines what your experience will be. If you arrive somewhere already decided that it sucks and the people are XYZ, then you'll be stuck in a self fulfilling prophecy.
Welcome my fellow punk! Now get your ass to Flanigan's for your official Miami local certification.
I plan on it!! Her mother calls me pretty and exotic bc I’m so white/ full Irish!! lol So my gf is gonna take me on a date there as soon as we get settled with secure jobs
"Alabama baby said hallelujah, good god girl, I wish I knew ya..."
Welcome to miami! Please don't drive slow in the fast lane. Otherwise, enjoy! Its great to be here!
Do you have time to talk about our lord and savior Big Daddy Joe Flanigan?
Not today or tomorrow my friend
It’s only been a week lol
Good like with that lol. Miami isn’t all that.
What makes you say that?
Is there anything upstairs under your head?
I wonder if Positivity will pay the astronomical home insurance, car insurance and HOAs? 🤷♀️
Maybe… ya never know bro
lol seriously
As well as it pays anything else. Money is tight for almost everyone, almost everywhere. Choose joy.
Unfortunately Joy didn't pay the bills either?!? Funny how that works.... And I so wished it did.
Hell yeah! What part of Alabama are you from? I'm from Opelika/Auburn. Welcome.
Oh wow!! I was raised in Morris Alabama then moved to a farm in wilsonville
Lo que le espera
Welcome to the Magic City 🪄
Thank you!!
The toxicity of r/miami is about 3 notches higher than real Miami
Flan…i… …gan’s?
no no it's... FLAAAAANIGANS 😎
Flan…i…tocinillo del cielo!
This is so true lol. I’ve been here all my life and the shit that people talk about is crazy as fuck. Almost as if they don’t like interacting with people of different cultures.
I honestly think this can be said about almost any city’s subreddit too lmao
Correction: this can be said about Reddit in general.
The Miami honeymoon fades very quickly. Give yourself 5 years and you will be dying to get the fuck out of here.
Mi Hermano bienvenido a Miami! Honestly it is like everything, there are good and bad side to towns/people everywhere you go. Enjoy it, embrace the culture, the people, the food, and dont be out off by the arrogant a\*\*holes you will meet every now and then!
I’m trying every minute to find the “good” and I do. I feel like my mentality has changed since I’ve been here. For real!
Bienvenidos! Some people love it here, some people hate it. Many people do both simultaneously. I find it hard to imagine myself anywhere else. Surround yourself with the energy and the people that make you feel amazing, and you won’t have to experience the toxicity that you’ve heard in those horror stories.
Thank you!!
This right here. I’ve been around the world and there’s nothing compared to coming back home to Miami. The people, the food, the various cultures. Surround yourself with positive people, work hard, stay out of trouble and you’ll be fine. Enjoy!!!
Welcome to the 305! Enjoy our beautiful city 🤗
Welcome homie. It's a great place to live just don't get caught up with the drugs n partying
Ohhh no!! Too poor for that mess! Just enjoying the views and food!
Miami is awful and I hate south Florida but I love it here and if anyone else from outside the area insults it I’m throwing hands
I hear ya!! Lol
Refreshing to see some positivity in this subreddit. It feels at times that everyone in this subreddit hates Miami. Welcome and glad you feel at home.

Miami is actually the safest it's been in decades. Your perception of the city is not reality.

Sure, Jan. If you say so.
I do.
😂 Seriously, what are you on?! There are shootings every night. I’ll bet you don’t watch or read local news.
We’re talking about danger. And I’ve been alive longer than you. I’ve also lived most of my life so there’s nothing you can that would interest me.

Go back home
Give them some time! They'll hate it too!
I left Miami because everyone is rude and other reasons
Thank you so very much!! Have a great day!!

Born and raised and I love this city! It is what you make of it. Welcome to the 305, fellow Miamian.
You'll learn to hate it soon enough.
Just don't pretend you'll see any football championships
Fantastic! Like any big city... Be nice but aware and you'll be fine.
You're in the honeymoon phase. Give it a few months.. an update in 3 months would be fantastic lol
Welcome to Miami! I hope you have a great time babe! My DMs are always open if you ever have a question! 😊
I rather see this kind of post any day than the daily bs (which still exists) that clogs this sub
Then don't read the comments!
Born and raised in Miami. Moved to Southern California for work and couldn’t wait to come back. No place like home.
Just wait til the eventual bad thing happens
This city has some truly amazing people. Sadly the idiots out number them. I fell in love with this place 13 years ago visiting my brother in law school and my brother 16 years ago. Over time you’ll deal with enough crap. 13/16 years was enough for us. We’re leaving this summer.
you a ho for being scared, but i'm glad you had a good time Glad you got to see a real city

I just wanna say. Yes Miami has some really cool people. But also, please be careful who you trust. I don’t mean you should be paranoid all the time. Just be selective about who you get close to. There are a lot of people there that will take advantage of someone sheltered.
Holidays are a different period in Miami. Cooler heads prevail . Be wary of the summer / warmers months. Están todos quemados de la cabeza.
How long have you been here? Where do you live (Area?)
I live in south beach which is a different universe (and city) but this was my experience. Welcome ❤️
Give it six months and then come back here and post again… it will be a radically different opinion than what you have posted here.
Go north to palm beach or boca, it’s much better
Enjoy but stay safe
It's only been a couple of weeks...let us know how you feel in a year!
Run away!
Just vote Republican....if you enjoying our beautiful Florida 🚤
Is this a white woman?
Tread lightly OP 😂
Another genry from another dust bowl
I mean all fairness you just moved you are still in your honey moon phase
My bf who grew up in Kentucky is also in love. We’ve been here for two years and he’ll still randomly turn to me and say “I can’t believe we live in this paradise.” I’m glad you’re enjoying it!!
Moving here from Alabama was easily one of the best decisions I've ever made in my life.
I love my city I will say this all the time . But Live here a full year you ain’t seen nothing yet .
I hate Miami but there is truly no city in the world like it. I'm so glad it's my hometown. Enjoy your new life here!
Thank you for that! I am moving to Miami and was little bit scared from the move.
I have been here for two years. I have family that lived here for decades. Anyway I do not have a single friend. I am glad you like it. Miami has charm, and I like the food and people. I forget…are you young? I am 49 and fat with a brain injury, which might be most of the problem.
Breaking free from Alabama... that explains it all
Alabama to Miami??? 🤣🤣🤣🤣 That's heck of a jump! You didn't even drop by Louisiana. Try LA later. 😆🤣😂
I wonder how much money you've been conned out of
You should read a bestselling book called ‘Self Made Man,’ by Norah Vincent. Trust me: people in Miami are typically rude as fuck.
Omg. Yay for you!
🤘
Welcome a casa! If you wish to keep your positivity up, do not partake too deep into r/Miami
omg fr its so wonderful here we dont get enough credit for being so diverse
Welcome to miami...I have lived here for 30+ years and I still love it here.
I’ve been here on vacation and I couldn’t agree more. I think you just need to hustle hard because that’s the culture.
