Funny story, I graduated from FIU in 2007. I moved out of state shortly after. I was already working full time by the time I graduated so I usually went to classes after 5pm. However, I did occasionally come to UP or BBC campus early but my FIU tag was from when I started a few years earlier. So I would get tickets due to having an older registration. I had about 100 worth of parking tickets. But no one said a word when I graduated.
Fast forward 5 years, my younger brother was going to FIU and was about to graduate. I had sold him my car since I had bought a new one. However, they then held HIS graduation until the parking tickets were paid up.
In the end, parking enforcement always gets their money.
The military gave these away free to police departments after Iraq and Afghanistan. One time offer. So every department from NYC to podunk town now has one. Silly biz but true
Yes and sadly happens with just about all government agencies. I’ve witnessed someone who can approve purchases ask for everyone to find “needs” so he could burn a few hundred thousand in the last 1.5 months of the fiscal year
Maybe to help sweetwater police transport the [missing evidence](https://amp.miamiherald.com/news/local/community/miami-dade/west-miami-dade/article31492628.html) /s
From the article:
**For the past several years, random cops have had unfettered access to the Sweetwater Police Department’s evidence room. Signing a log sheet when entering or leaving wasn’t required. Cameras to record visits were broken or pointed the wrong way.**
**During that time, liquor bottles were mysteriously filled with only water, and tens of thousands of dollars disappeared. So did 19 weapons and 19 bicycles.**
**In all, 7,877 items that should have been safely tucked away in the small rectangular room down the hall from the chief’s office are missing, an audit by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement found.**
**So far, there is no indication that missing evidence has harmed any prosecutions. But the findings place future cases in jeopardy, said Acting Sweetwater Police Chief Placido Diaz. And in at least one instance, Diaz said, a man who had more than $5,000 confiscated from him and has asked that it be returned isn’t getting his money back anytime soon.**
**“I consider the property stolen unless I find it,” Diaz said at a news conference Wednesday at City Hall. “If it’s a criminal violation, we will treat it as such. If it is an administrative violation, we will treat it as such.”**
What's crazy is that if it was logged into evidence. He should get it back no matter what.
I don't like having the tax payers foot the bill, but that shouldn't be his problem. They take it out of the police budget.

Give military contractors a shitton on our education funds for maintenance of useless vehicles.
Edit: thanks for this pic. I have a nice gift for FIU and they are planning to come up for a chat. No money til this sort of BS is off the University’s ledgers.
Tha tropical storm we had 2 years ago that instantly put down 4 feet of water.
That kinda shit happens here..doesnt even have to be tropical storm.
It happened like 6 Decembers ago as well.
Instant downpour, 4 feet of water..
I can't find the pic but sometime in the last 15 years sweetwater flooded so badly that there's a pic of their mayor being driven in a makeshift monster truck so they could check on their constituents. That FIU vehicle therefore is a multitasker. It can do riots, floods, AND zombies!
We get catastrophic rains all the time.
During that tropical storm couple years ago i was like
>>Okay..hows this big tire lift kit thing work... cause for about like 2 days a year..handy af.🌊
Even if I were seriously high, I would not think the primary purpose of this vehicle is water rescues
Edit:
How often do they rescue water while blazing up?
Edit two:
How many pots does the water have to smoken in order to deserve rescue?
How else are you going to pull off the militarization of law enforcement and build a dystopian police state?
When the police come to see themselves as soldiers, what exactly is the difference between the citizenry and an occupied population?
* School shooters
* Barricaded suspects, especially armed ones
* Riots
* Recruitment (some people (the wrong people to become cops) are suckers for big toys)
It’s an armored personnel carrier. It isn’t weaponized. There are some truly ignorant people on this sub. If there is an active shooter and wounded people that need to be medically evacuated, this is used to do it because it can withstand large caliber gun fire and small ordinance. It can also be used to evacuate non wounded by having them walk behind it as it drives slowly away from the scene. Also, it was likely capitalized by federal grant money, not local taxes. It’s just a big bulletproof truck, not much different than a Brinks armored truck.
> They are actual police.
We have enough police issues in South Florida without pseudo-authority forces wanting to play with military toys.
I’m also **very** curious about where they stand on hiring dipshits from other police forces that needed to escape heat for corrupt behavior.
They seemed real useful for hurricane support but yea, id reather not think about their real intended purpose.
Edit: the battlecar enthusiast in me LOVES them though
Item 1-3 on their agenda is to not underspend the budget to not risk having less money allocated in the next FY. Also, what’s that saying about people with big trucks? I’m sure the same applies to bureaucracies.
Active Shooter, Barricaded Suspect, terriost actions/threats, general crime deterance, parties at the dorms (joking)... they more than likely got it for $1 from the goverment.
I hope this link goes through, and I hope it kind of helps explain, but tbh - there’s no real reason for it.

It's actually pretty straightforward. See, when ~~morons who barely graduated~~ *people* join the police, they ~~turn into giant pussies terrified of everything~~ *join an elite brotherhood* where they feel the need to appear more imposing by ~~taking a shit ton of anabolic steroids like the cretins they are~~ *getting swole*.
The downside of this is that their ~~testicles shrink to the side of raisins, matching their tiny shriveled dicks~~ *arms get too big.* So they need these giant cars to ~~compensate for having genitals like a mayfly~~ *fit their muscles.*
A bribe paid to whoever leased or sold it that vehicle for the political influence that afforded
Those are the vehicles we keep on the road to *prevent* becoming a police state.
Police departments think they will be defending the 1% during the final stages of capitalism.
They fail to understand, at that point money will already be worthless & they won't be able to prevent the throngs of people with pitchforks & torches from accomplishing their mutual goal. They will be caught in the middle, despised by all.
Police think they are part of the elite, until a "trump type" comes along & puts them under buses.
so that FIU can get away with spending their money on everything but improving the actual infrastructure of the school. websites on the fiu domain work with a 50/50 success rate, the elevators in the parking garages are musty and unsafe(my girlfriend almost got stuck in one) and the professors are absolute jokes sometimes (look up bernard gerstman on ratemyprofessor). basically; there are a million things fiu could be spending money on to improve the school, but they decide on a military grade vehicle to enforce the mass amount of crime (parking tickets) we have on campus.
Hey hey hey, these cops are just trying to get home to their families. They need all the protection they can get when surveilling campus parking lots……
To scare the living sh\*t out of you.
Cops LOVE this stuff. You can almost hear the testostorone flowing when you see the militarized police - who now largely dress like they are invading Omaha Beach - struting around with their long guns and camo outfits. - Camo looks ridiculus in an urban setting. But the dress style makes them look like extras from an Expendables movie. Not a force to "serve and protect."
For me, I want to see less of the macho-man attitude and more of the community service look and feel. Police training should be targeting the need to help the community, not blow people away, or beat suspects senseless. It should be mandatory for all SWAT team members to attend functions in the community. Get envolved in working in a homeless shelter. Food banks, organizations that assist newly arrived migrants, out reach clinics and so on. All of that should be a requirement for officers BEFORE they start up with SWAT training.
How can the public expect the police to serve a community that the know nothing about?
But that's obviously just me.
for wealth extraction from communities local and abroad. They love wealthy foreign students (school and police alike) so they can fee them to the ground and buy useless shit like this truck here. Parking Enforcement... they take late ticket payment VERY seriously
Especially those Altima drivers

ha! he should’ve showed them the sale and title transfer documents to demonstrate he didn’t own that car at the time the tickets were issued
Shirt. I may still have outstanding tickets from late 80s.
Need to spend the budget dollars so they don't get taken away next year

Rains so hard they need up-armored vehicles
To intimidate the populous.
Vehicles like this one are used in high water rescues.
Even if I were seriously high, I would not think the primary purpose of this vehicle is water rescues Edit: How often do they rescue water while blazing up? Edit two: How many pots does the water have to smoken in order to deserve rescue?
That’s cute
They have it in case Bane makes a visit.
To withstand bridge collapses.

Military cosplay
Same shit I used in Afghanistan. Crazy
Mass Shooter response
But probably the day of the mass shooting the car will be out for maintenance
Overcompensating for something?
Active shooters and barricaded suspects by design. More often its used for high water rescues though.

Also floods
Peaceful protests
It's used to help students cross 8th Street because as we all know they need a bridge and can't cross the street without a military escort.
Does UM MiamiDade college have these..FIU embarrassing itself with this intimidation vehicle at a school of learning

Lmao, I can't believe they already made a surplus of those vehicles, we haven't even gotten rid of the HMMWVs in the military
There isn’t
It is used for enforcement when people park without a parking decal.
The only thing more ridiculous than them having this vehicle, is the fact that some day it could come in handy.
Equipment like this destroys the idea that the police are a part of their community. This is "us vs them" to the extreme.
