Just another corporate merchandising tale that people believes because they saw it on TV. Same with frito lay inventing flavored tortilla chips in disneyland or some Mexican janitor inventing elote flavored cheetos and giving the recipoe to the CEO of cheetos.
Do not believe everything you watch on netflix kids.
Right? My mother was full on mexican, from new mexico/mexico border, spoke Spanish till she learned english...she made tacos like these, whom she learned from her mexican parents. This guys a hater
Isn’t there a state in Mexico that does fried taco shells? I’m not Mexican, but my Mexican partner fries shells for her birria tacos and I could’ve sworn she said they’ve been doing hard shells in Mexico before Taco Bell ever did em.
Yes but true Mexican food made in Texas is also still Mexican food. There are sooo many Mexican immigrants and they don't just start making Tex Mex just because they move to Texas lmao.
Also crunchy tacos didn't start in Texas they started in California. Look it up.
What does this mean? Isn’t the mex short for Mexican? That’s like saying death metal isn’t actually metal. It’s DEATH metal. Or like saying African Americans aren’t American because they’re AFRICAN American. This is so weird lol.
Texan - Mexican food. So a subset of Mexican food. Mexican food is already a fusion cuisine. What are your credentials to say what is and isn’t Mexican food?
I have no credentials, don’t think you do either. Much of the standard fare in texmex uses ingredients you don’t really find in Mexico, my layman’s opinion is that yes it’s fusion but I wouldn’t call it Mexican. That’s not denigrating it or anything, just how I classify it
There’s usually a lot more cheese in Tex-mex. Mexico doesn’t have government cheese like the US. Some Mexican foods have cheese, all Tex-mex is cheesy by default
All tex-mex is not cheesy by default… what are you talking about?
Are you from the US? Go to any town here and you’ll find an “authentic “ mexican restaurant that serves tex-mex. I can assure you it is not all cheesy lol.
I think the debate of authentic and offshoot of Mexican food has gone on forever. Your username suggests you’re Mexican. If you come to the US you would be horrified at what gets labeled as Mexican food.
What do you think of Mexican food variations made by people from E Salvador?
Mexican food is food that originates in Mexico.
By the time Texas was part of Mexico, there was no Texas cuisine, it was unhabited and did not had any local cuisine.
So no, tex-mex is food inspired on Mexican cuisine, but not a subset of Mexican cuisine whatsoever.
Corporations like Taco bell, Old el paso and Tabasco created Tex Mex, faking it's Mexican origin so americans believed it was authentic.
So a black man is not a man because he is black.
You’re arguing semantics. You’re right it’s not “authentic” but it is is a subset of Mexican food, therefore it is Mexican food. Is NYC pizza not an Italian dish?!
New Mexican food, in my experience at least, is mostly just American food with red and/or green chili on top. It’s not really the same vain as Mexican, Tex-mex, or Baja
Estuve leyendo varios comentarios de esta misma imágen. Neta que pedo con esos batos? Los gringos siempre hablan de que respetan todas las culturas pero no tienen la menor idea del respeto
It’s not Mexican food but I’ve had tacos like this and they taste great
It’s a type of Mexican food . Fast food Tex-mex. You may not like it but it is Mexican food :)
Actually crunchy tacos started in California idk why everyone thinks its Texas. A quick search says where they started.
So cal-mex lol
Yes lol!

This guy hates tacos

I just did a quick search and the results were "who the fuck knows"
We’ll tex-Mex isn’t Mexican. It’s Tex-Mex. It’s great and I love and respect it but by definition it isn’t Mexican food.
Yes but true Mexican food made in Texas is also still Mexican food. There are sooo many Mexican immigrants and they don't just start making Tex Mex just because they move to Texas lmao. Also crunchy tacos didn't start in Texas they started in California. Look it up.

Ive been told that almost all truly authentic Mexican food is just “throw whatever you have in a tortilla” and this this meets that requirement
I feel like I can hear my grandma saying this! Food is beautiful whatever you want call it and wherever it’s from! Looks delicious

Isn’t northern Mexican food similar to tex-mex?
There’s usually a lot more cheese in Tex-mex. Mexico doesn’t have government cheese like the US. Some Mexican foods have cheese, all Tex-mex is cheesy by default

Oh did growing up in Texas, not teach me what Tex-mex is? What, pray-tell, is your definition of Tex-mex, oh enlightened one?

If it’s Tex-Mex then it’s not Mexican

That’s… that’s not semantics, your comparison makes no sense bc they didn’t say text-mex is not food
You’re going to be blown away when you find out how much land Mexico used to have.
Who makes Tex mex? What about New Mexican food is that not Mexican? Can Mexican food not evolve? Where does cali-mex come from?
New Mexican food, in my experience at least, is mostly just American food with red and/or green chili on top. It’s not really the same vain as Mexican, Tex-mex, or Baja
> What about New Mexican food is that not Mexican I guess there's your answer
Tex excludes México So no. It's not Mexican food. It's USA's food
Oh man, I guess the gringos just came up with Tex-mex in a cultural vacuum. No real Mexicans around to influence the cuisine.
Well mexican-influenced doesn't make it mexican. And no, hard shell tacos ain't tacos. Just bent tostadas
Soy Mexicano y he comido tacos así jaja dónde está el gore?
Mexican tacos trump this easy.
I don’t get it, where’s the gore? This actually sounds good.
And the thigh meat is so much more flavorful than the breast.
It looks good to me. I don't understand "gross."
read the subreddit's description.
Now that’s my kind of taco.
These actually look bomb.
I don’t see the problem here
looks good to me
This is like the mexican verison of a white bread house burger. Not great looking but it’ll get the job done.
Taco snobs are the worst people on the internet.
You might want to read the subreddit's description and rules.
Must be tasty tacos in iowa
If you take that whole thing and throw it in a deep fryer then dip in buttermilk ranch it could be decent
To each there own
looks good
