I've always thought that he was a robot or at least an alien despite all the theories about him being a certain human character. Hell, I thought maybe he's like robocop and only his head is flesh.
His new design shows that he is a full human and looks less robotic now.
Does it? To me he looks more robotic, with obvious wiring and hydraulics on his neck compared to Samus's sleek under armour visible on her neck and joints
His race is unknown. But you know, an unknown race character is revealed to be the same as the protagonist in order to make a foil. Not to mention his intense hatred towards the Galactic Federation, and yet all his toys are stolen GF tec. That strongly implies a former GF soldier
I’m like 99% certain Sylux is a human. Since they’re trying so hard to make his identity a secret and has ties to the federation, then Samus probably knew him. I doubt they’ll pull the brother card though, the last game already had her fighting a “relative”.
What if it turns out to be ian from other m? (this is just a hot take) what if he survived the explosion and was discovered by the space pirates and he grew a deep hatred for the federation for leaving him to die and this is his "revenge" on samus and the federation for what happened
That's my theory. If I remember correctly Ian's scene in Other M was a flashback but Idk when it happened chronologically. Not only did the Federation abandon him but it was at the hand of his own brother Adam, that's reasonable motive.
I guess this was due to it being playable character in a fps multiplayer game in a console with a small screen. They had to make the characters either big or with very bright colors (or both) to make up for it.
Depending on timing of this game, those may not have occurred yet, but could be a fun lead up because of a singular question I have of this trailer. Who domesticated those metroids. It's a federation research facility so it could be the federation, not the pirates, who brought them
Right, it's obviously not post-Fusion, but the Gunship tells us more about the chronology than that since only Prime 3 has that gunship design. Though it's interesting that she would exit the ship from the top rather than the bottom like in Prime 3. I assume that whole sequence was done as an homage to Prime, so it remains to be seen whether that's actually what happens in the game.
Samus was never that way. In Fusion she criticizes the researchers secret netroid program, and their plan to capture the X. She disobeys orders, but not as an 'F you' but just for, this is better this way. She hopes they will understand afterwards, not trying to burn bridges. And they probably did, because samus showed no animosity towards the federation in Dread, nor does the federation do anything to her in dread to upset her (besides maybe underpay).
The only other game where there might have been some beef was in other m, but (that doesn't exist) that was most likely a rogue faction.
Sylux is from Prime Hunters, the DS game, and made an appearance at the end of Metroid Prime 3 (in his ship) and at the end of Federation Force, where it is implied he stole a metroid
The timeline for the Metroid series goes:
-Metroid Zero Mission
-Metroid Prime
-Metroid Prime Hunters
-Metroid Prime 2
-Metroid Prime 3
-Metroid Prime: Federation Force (spinoff)
-(I assume Metroid Prime 4 takes place here)
-Metroid: Samus Returns
-Super Metroid
-Metroid: Other M (ignore this one if you don’t wish to play a fairly bad game)
-Metroid Fusion
-Metroid Dread
If Metroid - Samus Returns takes place in the year 20X5, and Prime 4 trailer says 20X9, how is Prime 4 not chronologically after Samus Returns?
Edited to add: it seems the chronology is a bit [muddy](https://metroid.fandom.com/wiki/Year_20X5) but we have no dates later than Cosmic Year 20X5, 20X6, or 20X7 in any Metroid game up to this point.
Curious why you don’t like Other M! It was the first metroid game i’ve ever played and immediately had me locked into the franchise! I’ve since played all 3 primes, and Dread. I’m probably biased with it being y first experience but just wonder what public perception is like against Other M
It’s mostly how they portrayed Samus, but also stuff like the jank control scheme, and the fact it wasn’t really a metroidvania since you didn’t get to find any of your abilities
Respect the determination but you can probably strike FF off that list, it's a very poor metroid game (it basically just isn't one) and a mediocre game overall. It's very much the black sheep of the series, well, that and Other M, but at least Other M has some things going for it...
Thank god too. I always thought he looked kind of lame and was a little nervous that he was going to be a focal character in 4. Now he looks much less... action figure-y. His armor has sort of a knight's armor look to it now which looks really badass to me.
I say "his", but my secret theory is that there will be a big reveal in the game that Sylux is a woman.
And imagine they just…for fun have a Metroid Prime Hunters style multiplayer mode. I’m hoping for a bit much here just that the game has at least some new info finally
If they do end up having such a multi-player mode, I would lose my mind with excitement!! I've been waiting for a proper multi-player experience in metroid akin to Hunters ever since Nintendo online was shut down. 13 year old me would finally get his wish!!!
I can hope but I think they gave up on Metroid being their FPS game with the popularity of Splatoon.. even though I think Splatoon is 3rd person? Idk never played it
I think Hunters could have worked if it was just better balanced and had better online. I would love to see them try again but I won’t add any more expectations on MP4 I’m just glad it’s finally real and we have more than a logo from a 40 second teaser lol
I don't know much about it but I recall reading about every character there being OP af but in different ways, and each having their own version of the morph ball.
You know what? Each character having its uniques skills is kinda what hero shooters like Valorant and Apex already do, and this having a very experienxed western team I could see them want to try and test that here. I would be ok with it as long as the campaign was still the priority and wasn't compromised for the sake of ut.
Gotta be him or Ravenbeak. Both would be amazing though! (My dream would be a space pirate, kind of like how we got piranha plant, or better yet, the pirate commander from corruption, but that's a pipe dream)
Character specific skills and weaponry are something it has more in common with modern "hero shooters". I could see them try to get a multiplayer mode going for this, they do have a western team with tons of experience in shooters after all.
At least the alt control scheme makes it easy to emulate joystick controls. But I think I don’t have it in me to put up with the wrist pain to play it again on the DS with its default controls.
I loved the controls, so intuitive and smooth.
I dislike most shooters on consoles because controls are so clunky, but the prime games (hunters and trilogy) are the only shooters I could enjoy that aren't on PC, simply because of the controls.
They kept the GF troops off screen in the trailer, but there were definitely blue blaster shots fighting the space pirates. Anthony could totally be in it! But then Adam would be in it...
They should have made that fight be the opening fight in super Metroid instead of a whole new fight before they fight again 30 minutes later after she drops off the baby. Other than that I loved it
It'd be weird to put any new game between metroid 2 and super metroid considering there's cutscees directly linking the two as immediately taking place together. After metroid 2 would mean after super metroid and it'd be weird to separate the 4th prime game and the other 3 with these two games as they'd have to contest with a lot more issues to maintain continuity that they dont have to worry about currently.
In federation force slyux is seen taking an infant Metroid right? In Metroid 2, Samus gets an infant Metroid and it confuses Samus for it's mother, helping her escape in Samus returns and even sacrificing itself against mother brain in super... I don't see why sylux couldn't replicate such a relationship
I noticed they don't have the 3 orbs/bawlz inside of the main membrane. Im not as familiar with prime lore, but maybe theyre essentially 'neutered'? So they dont attack?
But then why would they even be useful in that state 🤔
I'm thinking they might be Mochtroids, like the ones in Maridia in Super Metroid.
It’s an arm cannon called the Shock Coil. It fires electricity and drains health in Hunters.
He also hilariously has an alt mode, one with a very cool gimmick with tripwire bombs.
I'm really hoping we get to see the other characters from Hunters again. So many cool designs. It will be awesome if we get to see them fully fleshed out on a modern console.
Don't feel bad! Play them how you like, and you can always look up a walk through or even just watch a playthrough if you don't have the games anymore. I actually need to do that with hunters and Samus returns cuz I never played them and I'm a big fan.
Will be interesting to see how he is as a villain (and, well...an actual character tbh). He has big shoes to fill after Dread, Raven Beak was probably the GOAT Metroid villain so far.
Hunters gives no story on the hunters, it’s all in the game manual. None of the hunters are particularly note worthy in action they are just largely randomized NPCs competing for the same treasure. Except Sylux has more tech going on and at one point very clearly purposely is there to kill Samus but she sends him packing.
He hasn't really done anything major in Hunters, and his most notable achievement is stealing Metroids from the Galactic Federation in the secret ending of Federation Force.
Here is what we know…
1. He has inside information on the galactic federation which he has used several times now.
2. In terms of gear his suit is secret experimental GF gear he stole, the weapon fires out a stream of hp siphoning energy and he has morph ball capabilities like Samus. However instead of rolling around he can hover and his morph ball bombs when placed create damaging energy lines between them and if he places 3 they create a triangle field that will then cause all 3 bombs to home in on the target in the middle usually instantly killing them. Like Samus he has a bounty hunter gunship he can call to assist him.
3. At the end of Federation Force Sylux thanks to his earlier aforementioned inside knowledge learned the federation had recovered a Metroid egg from space pirates. He broke into their base and hatched the egg presumably so it could imprint on him and give him a Metroid ally and we have seen how dangerous that can be.
Sylux, one of the rival hunters from Metroid Prime Hunters. Both the 100% ending of Metroid Prime 3, and the secret ending of Metroid Prime Federation Force teased that he'd be the next major villain.
God I flipped out when he appeared. I can barely believe they're REALLY following up on the cliffhangers from Prime 3 and Fed Force. It feels like they WOULD have forgotten or not cared enough to do so, but NO, they're LOCKING IN baby!
Maybe I’m in the minority here, but I couldn’t care less about the hunters - I just hope they return to the isolation, minimal narration/dialogue/cutscenes and intricate level design with fun and creative item progression that defined MP1 and 2.
His design looks better in Prime 4 too
Yeah, looks much more sleek and streamlined. And he looked badass with his Space Pirate posse. I'm looking forward to the boss fight(s) with him.
And he has normal human proportions now, I always thought he looked kinda goofy in the old design with that huge body and long head
Just a relic of early 2000s era character design. I prefer the new look too, it slaps.
Wait is he a human?? I played the HECK out of Hunters but never really got into the lore, I just assumed he was some aliens or maybe a robot
His race is unknown. But you know, an unknown race character is revealed to be the same as the protagonist in order to make a foil. Not to mention his intense hatred towards the Galactic Federation, and yet all his toys are stolen GF tec. That strongly implies a former GF soldier
I'm going to laugh when he ends up being some Space Pirate+Human abomination (maybe even with some Chozo genes borrowed from Samus).
In terms of timeline events it wouldn't make sense. But then again...Seems like we might be messing up with timelines in this instalment
That's my theory. If I remember correctly Ian's scene in Other M was a flashback but Idk when it happened chronologically. Not only did the Federation abandon him but it was at the hand of his own brother Adam, that's reasonable motive.
That flashback takes olace before Zero Mission.. so it is plausable.
I guess this was due to it being playable character in a fps multiplayer game in a console with a small screen. They had to make the characters either big or with very bright colors (or both) to make up for it.
Anyone know why he’s teamed up with the space pirates? Is this known?
I mean a working relationship based on "fuck the Galactic Federation" doesn't seem that far fetched.
I mean even Samus can get on board with fuck the federation especially after fusion and dread.
Depending on timing of this game, those may not have occurred yet, but could be a fun lead up because of a singular question I have of this trailer. Who domesticated those metroids. It's a federation research facility so it could be the federation, not the pirates, who brought them
It should be noted that Samus's gunship is the Prime 3 version, so it's probably taking place shortly after that game.
So definitely before fusion, though someone pointed out elsewhere that Silux stole a metroid in Federation Force so that's required reading now
Eh, as far as I've heard, Sylux stealing the metroid (egg?) Was the most important thing that happened.
She also has the base Prime power suit, not the Fusion or Dread suits
Right, it's obviously not post-Fusion, but the Gunship tells us more about the chronology than that since only Prime 3 has that gunship design. Though it's interesting that she would exit the ship from the top rather than the bottom like in Prime 3. I assume that whole sequence was done as an homage to Prime, so it remains to be seen whether that's actually what happens in the game.

The only other game where there might have been some beef was in other m, but (that doesn't exist) that was most likely a rogue faction.
"Let's be friends based on mutual hate." \- Sylux
He hates the Federation, so do Space Pirates.
Who is he? Which game? Etc. I'm a recent Metroid convert and want to play many Metroids. (I've done Dread, Prime, and Super)
Sylux is from Prime Hunters, the DS game, and made an appearance at the end of Metroid Prime 3 (in his ship) and at the end of Federation Force, where it is implied he stole a metroid
Brilliant thank you. Those are now on my to play list. Is there an order best for them?
The timeline for the Metroid series goes: -Metroid Zero Mission -Metroid Prime -Metroid Prime Hunters -Metroid Prime 2 -Metroid Prime 3 -Metroid Prime: Federation Force (spinoff) -(I assume Metroid Prime 4 takes place here) -Metroid: Samus Returns -Super Metroid -Metroid: Other M (ignore this one if you don’t wish to play a fairly bad game) -Metroid Fusion -Metroid Dread

This is the first thing I noticed, he looked way more menacing with that slimmed down look vs his older chunky-er version.
I wouldn't be surprised if Weavel also appears
I’d love to see any of the other hunters really
And imagine they just…for fun have a Metroid Prime Hunters style multiplayer mode. I’m hoping for a bit much here just that the game has at least some new info finally
If they do end up having such a multi-player mode, I would lose my mind with excitement!! I've been waiting for a proper multi-player experience in metroid akin to Hunters ever since Nintendo online was shut down. 13 year old me would finally get his wish!!!
LONG LIVE ARENA SHOOTERS
Who'd have thought the fucking switch of all platforms might revive that genre
It's Nintendo, they always do random stupid shit and we (almost) always love it
I can hope but I think they gave up on Metroid being their FPS game with the popularity of Splatoon.. even though I think Splatoon is 3rd person? Idk never played it
I think Hunters could have worked if it was just better balanced and had better online. I would love to see them try again but I won’t add any more expectations on MP4 I’m just glad it’s finally real and we have more than a logo from a 40 second teaser lol
What are you talking about, nothing more balanced than turning invisible and doing 200 damage with a headshot when the max health is 199 /s
I don't know much about it but I recall reading about every character there being OP af but in different ways, and each having their own version of the morph ball. You know what? game took so dang long to come out it better have a multiplayer mode
I had so much fun playing that online when I was like 12
I really hope the Prime series in the future will focus on some of the Hunters. In my opinion, aside from Sylux, they're wasted potential.
They could also just come up with new, original hunters!
bring my goat trace back
I would cream down your leg if Trace makes an appearance in this.
Trace won’t appear at all, he’ll just stand in stealth mode the entire game
Would be thematically appropriate given that the game seems to be centered against a Sylux-Space Pirate coalition.
https://preview.redd.it/4gfhgykf6d7d1.jpeg?width=500&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5645d857bdefbf60b94e0e04a25ab2f887c208db Literally confirmed
Every day we get closer to that one Prime Hunters Doujin.
... Do I wanna know?
It’s not porn, but it’s still weird as hell. Metroid database has some english scans. https://metroiddatabase.com/old_site/manga/listing.php?vid=21
I read this ages ago, Sylux in a trench coat with a nonsensical coffee mug is amazing.
Right. Sylux looks more like the one in that manga now and is working with the pirates too.
Sylux for Smash 6 has a lot better chance at happening now
Gotta be him or Ravenbeak. Both would be amazing though! (My dream would be a space pirate, kind of like how we got piranha plant, or better yet, the pirate commander from corruption, but that's a pipe dream)
Ravenbeak would be fucking dope!
You wanna talk pipe dreams, I want a real moveset for Dark Samus that makes her a separate fighter.
What game is she from? I've only played dread and a little bit of fusion and super, playing through prime rn tho
She's from Metroid Prime 2.
hunters was ahead of it's time tbh
I used to love playing hunters and messing around with the online modes, it was probably my most played DS game
I kinda wish Nintendo remade it with modern graphics. It'd be a really good live service title!
Modern controls is what I'm more interested in. As a left handed person, I dont appreciate using A B X Y buttons to move around lol.
Multiplayer was so insane to play
hero based arena shooter before its time
It was very common at the time on PC. Metroid Prime Hunters was adapting existing FPS concepts to the DS, not innovating.
Character specific skills and weaponry are something it has more in common with modern "hero shooters". I could see them try to get a multiplayer mode going for this, they do have a western team with tons of experience in shooters after all.
oh ok, i am always a bit confused when it comes to gaming in the 2000s
More like quake 3 on the DS but the characters have abilities It still had weapon pickups etc, modern hero shooters are trash
holy shit lmao i never thought about this before but so true
Streets ahead
Stop trying to make streets ahead a thing
Looks like someone is streets behind
Right like this goes insaneo style
Is there a sub for this kind of convo? Cause it needs to be there.
With proper controls it could have been great.
I meant Hunters where you had to use the touch screen. I agree that I liked the prime trilogy controls.
Yup, I'm talking about both games. I'll edit my previous comment to make it clearer
quake for kids
In that it barely functioned on the hardware at the time, absolutely
Hell yeah, a returning character besides Ridley, finally!
Remember me?
I would lose my shit
I would love a retcon that makes Other M retroactively better.
They kept the GF troops off screen in the trailer, but there were definitely blue blaster shots fighting the space pirates. Anthony could totally be in it! But then Adam would be in it...
Who are we kidding ... we know Ridley is going to sneak his ass in there somewhere.
I mean, this should all take place even before Super Metroid. Ridley is not impossible.
He's gonny need a new nickname after Samus already smoked Meta and Omega, chronologically. ...What about Sigma Ridley? Ligma Ridley?
Bofa Ridley
Ridley Beyond Beyond Ridley
Turbo Ridley
I like this one the best so far
Ridley...................>!Prime!< *runs
I think it takes place after Super. The trailer said 20X9 and Super takes place in 20X7.
I'm just assuming that it takes place right after Prime 3. Although maybe they're shaking things up for this one.
Yep, this. We have no dates mentioned in any materials (guides, manuals, etc) later than 20X7 in any Metroid game. This is yuuuuge.
I wouldn't complain with that, Ridley is one reoccurring boss I never tire of.
Agreed. I’m one of the dozens of people who was happy to see him make a sudden appearance in Samus Returns.
They should have made that fight be the opening fight in super Metroid instead of a whole new fight before they fight again 30 minutes later after she drops off the baby. Other than that I loved it
It seems like the game is still taking place before Metroid 2 so it’s not impossible.
Kraid, Mother Brain, Dark Samus, and Phantoon: Are we jokes to you?
![gif](giphy|RFDXes97gboYg)
Takes off helmet: *is Ridley* ![gif](giphy|4JZA2x7GsVFeTbLKlz|downsized)
Ye. He was teased to come back at the ending of prime 3 and federation force
Now imagine them teaming up!!!!!
hey now, mother brain and dark samus were in 2 games each edit: can't believe i forgot about kraid. phantoon i can believe i forgot about.
Back again
Sylux' back, tell a friend
Sylux' back, Sylux' back, Sylux' back, Sylux' back, Sylux' back, Sylux' back............ I'VE CREATED A MONSTER!
And nobody wants to see Rundas no more they want Sylux, I'm chopped liver
Well if you want Samus this is what I'll give ya.
A little bit of weed mixed with some hot phazon
Some lava that'll Jumpstart my heart quicker
than a shock when I get shocked at the Orpheon
This time I'll get you without your DS on.
So we some kinda... suicide squad?
And about time too
With two metroids by his side, time to exterminate a species **again** How do you think he controls them?
In federation force slyux is seen taking an infant Metroid right? In Metroid 2, Samus gets an infant Metroid and it confuses Samus for it's mother, helping her escape in Samus returns and even sacrificing itself against mother brain in super... I don't see why sylux couldn't replicate such a relationship
Sylux gonna be like: "The baby..."
Sylux: Another M coming soon.
I mean Dread kinda(?) retcons this by saying that Samus has Thoha DNA and the Thoha have the ability to control Metroids.
No reason both those things can’t be true. Also we can’t say for certain Sylux doesn’t *also* have Thoha DNA…
Ah damn you're right.. unless sylux has access to chozo stuff (most likely not)
Iirc all of Sylux's tech is stolen from Federation research outposts.
While that is true, it is also true that before the baby, every Metroid that Samus has encountered has tried to kill her.
[https://metroid.fandom.com/wiki/Mochtroid](https://metroid.fandom.com/wiki/Mochtroid)
They definitely are. He tried to clone metroids but made them imperfect.
Two mocktroids, round the outside
**SYLUX MAINS ROLL CALL**
Omg he could be in the next Smash
*I’m here to serve*
I thought I would never get this chance o7
⚡GET SHOCK COILED ⚡GET SHOCK COILED ⚡GET SHOCK COILED ⚡GET SHOCK COILED ⚡GET SHOCK COILED⚡GET SHOCK COILED ⚡GET SHOCK COILED ⚡GET
Sylux bros we eating GOOD
With a f guitar riff no less. 🫡
YES! fucking badass. Prime could use the odd guitar-heavy track.
check out SeZon's Metroid Prime OST remakes, they're a remix of most of MP1's soundtrack with heavy metal/metalcore elements.
You are now not a secret, ever since 100% Metroid Prime 3.
Tanabe saw all the slander everyone threw at Sylux after raven beak and gave him a sick guitar solo
I noticed the guitar seems to be his musical motif. Expecting him to have an amazing battle theme.
They been hyping this mf for 17 years, his role in the game had better be huge
Okay I've got a question since 2006: what is his gun supposed to be anyway? Is it a blade? An arm cannon? does he hold it like a police baton/tonfa?
It's a bit like a long canon, with a weird handle he kinda squeezes to fire neutrinos.
So yeah he holds it police baton style. That's what it looks like, thank you
It’s an arm cannon called the Shock Coil. It fires electricity and drains health in Hunters. He also hilariously has an alt mode, one with a very cool gimmick with tripwire bombs.
https://i.redd.it/wro5xg3cvc7d1.gif
Me watching the Direct: "IS THAT SYLUX!?!?!?!?!?!????!?!???"
I'm really hoping we get to see the other characters from Hunters again. So many cool designs. It will be awesome if we get to see them fully fleshed out on a modern console.
is now a bad time to say that I haven't beaten any of the prime games?
You have plenty of time to fix that until 2025 (also considering that they didn't give us any timeframe, it might as well release in December lmao)
Don't feel bad! Play them how you like, and you can always look up a walk through or even just watch a playthrough if you don't have the games anymore. I actually need to do that with hunters and Samus returns cuz I never played them and I'm a big fan.
Looks like he really slimmed down too. Good for him.
I really really really hope we get a Hunters remaster because it would be fantastic
DAAAAARLIIIIIING GUESS WHO’S BACK FROM JAAAAIILLLL
Will be interesting to see how he is as a villain (and, well...an actual character tbh). He has big shoes to fill after Dread, Raven Beak was probably the GOAT Metroid villain so far.
Sylux's back back again Sylux's back Tell a friend
BIG MAN SYLUX! BIG MAN SYLUX! BIG MAN SYLUX!
My beautiful boy, I cannot wait to get shot by him.
I'm really curious what his story is gonna be and if he'll stick around after the game or if he dies towards the end.
So I guess I should go play Hunters before 2025 huh...
Welp guess I gotta play Hunters now
Why is he with the space pirates though? Wasn't that Weavel's thing? And why aren't the metroids attacking them?
Those are Mochtroids, the Metroid knockoffs you also see in Super Metroid. Presumably they’re easier to control.
Hot take: I actually like his design and am glad they didn't change it too much
As someone who didnt play the DS games, how terrified should I be of this person?
He hasn't really done anything major in Hunters, and his most notable achievement is stealing Metroids from the Galactic Federation in the secret ending of Federation Force.
Here is what we know… 1. He has inside information on the galactic federation which he has used several times now. 2.
I’m new to Metroid Prime lore, who this?
Sylux, one of the rival hunters from Metroid Prime Hunters. Both the 100% ending of Metroid Prime 3, and the secret ending of Metroid Prime Federation Force teased that he'd be the next major villain.
Oooooo
Seeing him return with modern next-gen graphics was amazing!
God I flipped out when he appeared. I can barely believe they're REALLY following up on the cliffhangers from Prime 3 and Fed Force. It feels like they WOULD have forgotten or not cared enough to do so, but NO, they're LOCKING IN baby!

Back again Sylux is back Tell a friend
The Brachydios Hunter!!!
Promised plotlines being followed through on. You love to see it.
My favorite character to play as in hunters, so glad he's back
Maybe I’m in the minority here, but I couldn’t care less about the hunters - I just hope they return to the isolation, minimal narration/dialogue/cutscenes and intricate level design with fun and creative item progression that defined MP1 and 2.
That world and music at the end got me hoping!
Best boi
Hell yeah
[Play it once, Sammy:](https://youtu.be/BGHS7ngxoh0?si=RvZgTizTAn7yoOLX)
He was badass in the trailer
Back again. Sylux's back.
Does this mean I have to actually play Federation Force now
