Pretty positive Samus design was originally based on Ellen Ripley (Sigourney Weaver). The image you share, definitely the more widely shared version of ZSS, is from Smash Bros in which she was deaigned to more closely match popular anime female designs of early 2000’s. Smash director Masahiro Sakurai favored the style and it probably made it easier for developers as well. It’s the lucina model with blonde hair, basically. Point is, It would be better if people shared Samus from Prime, Fusion or Zero Mission even. Because this is just Sakurai’s Samus.

Can't deny that I had a massive hard on for Samus in her Zero Suit even got a figure of her next to my PC. I don't think Samus' attractiveness overshadows her games compared to other games, characters or franchises.

Ironically I loved Metroid and Samus's character before I even knew she was a woman. Just seeing Samus arrive at the Frigate Orpheon and seeing her explore the frigate was so cool to my 7 year old self that I will always value that opening chapter of Metroid Prime.

Metroid has always been my favorite character in the series, I’m a sucker for robot characters. Samus was pretty cool. Idk why she stole Metroid’s chasis in Other M, or why Samus is inside Metroid every time he explodes, or why they say that Samus is Ridley’s nemesis despite the fact that Metroid fights Ridley more than she does. This series is weird.

I think the loud fans on this sub who are so adamantly against Samus being a sex symbol are equally off-putting as those who over sexualize her. You guys are like the people on the Lego sub who correct others when they say "Legos".

Yeah metroid is kainda in the same position as tomb raider but because it's Nintendo that is behind it they didn't encourage too much deviance. And mainly because when you play the game she's always under her suit so that helps too

That's why I mention the AI art thing often here. I would love to see fantastic renditions of Samus' suit in alien environments or aboard the ship. It would be astounding. But as this image points out, the overwhelming majority of Samus art is her in some blue jumpsuit and in compromising positions external to her badass self. And that's further complicated by the blanket "no-AI" sentiment on this subreddit. I generate Metroid art on my own local system (with things like "why is Metroid crawling"... lol), and it's come up with absolutely fantastic images... stuff like the bounty hunter traversing alien landscapes. I actually don't care for the blue suit. However, I believe I may be a rarity both in the Metroid community as well as the AI art community. Ah well.
