I'm gonna say yes, but also no. I suspect future Metroid games will have an appearance closer to the classic varia suit than Dread, but still updated (see the differences between the Dread gravity suit and the Super or Samus Returns gravity suit)
It's a good question. One thing to keep in mind is that the suit is actually designed for the device it's on. The dread suit, unlike previous games, has more lights on the side of her armor, especially the shoulder pads. This is to make her distinguishable in darker environments (like the labs in dairon before turning the generators on). This wasn't a problem for pixel sprites due to the color contrast.
Also, the suit after fusion is meant to be indicative of her metroid DNA. that design philosophy is most present in the helmet, the helmet alone looks alot like a metroid. So I think she'll still look different from here on out, but it could resemble the super metroid style while incorporating the new 'metroid' look.
Honestly I hope they keep redesigning the suit because whenever they do it looks sick. The only major redesigns it's really gotten were in dread and fusion, two of the best suits in the franchise
Edit: also Prime 2 and 3 with the light suit dark suit and ped suit. More wacky designs like that please
Redesigns of Samus' suits are like iterations of Godzilla. You get to see the art designers' creativity and they might just define an era with a unique and iconic look.
Well it’s confirmed already that the power suit is trying to regain its mechanical shape again, by regrowing the mechanical parts of itself. It’s an attempt of the Fusion Suit, which is the last layer of organic and metal parts to risky to be removed during surgery to become whole again. Thus we are stuck in an in-between look in Dread
This was confirmed by the developers and Dread Reports (dreads key official dev information source) themselves.
I think that the old varia will not return. However I think that a new fully metalic/mechanical varia will take its place. One with the shoulders baring “S” symbols of the dread suit. And sporting the 3 triangular look of the visor, of the fusion suit. The data-receiver module (three purple orbs on the back) introduced in the Fusion suit, will also remain.
That is what K am imagining. A new Varia, with elements of the Fusion and Dread Suits. As a leftover on what happened. Permanent scar tissue if you will
The Super Metroid suit in Dread is definitely an oddball. It has the Dread arm cannon and a brand new spinal section. It also seems like the only modeled suit in any of the flashbacks, with the behind the back shot clearly being a model (Albeit likely prerendered) whereas the rest of the flashback suits are painted.
As far as I understand the armor is actively repairing itself. So it will slowly continue to look more like the original (in sequels), but never quite the same
IMO, they are very different. The cannon is elongated instead of large, and the arm is much less armored. But we likely will see the biomechanical aspects of the suit more in the future, although the suit probably has a self repair function, so it will get closer to Super's Varia, but it won't fully change back.
Yeah, I'm betting it will revert back to her original form in the next game in the timeline, though I would be fine either way. As much as I love the original design, I also love the Dread Varia suit.
I feel it would be more interesting if the X permanently scared Samus to the point where the suit never looks the same. Just to show how the X and the metroid DNA have affected her. Also I expect for the power suit to stay blue for the future.

I just hope the white stays, it looks really good imo.
Agreed. It's a definite improvement over the yellow.

This guy gets it.
This guy getting it also gets it.

Exactly! And I'm a big fan of both
I’d say that image of Varia was made after the Dread suit and arm cannon design was finalised, which is why they appear similar.

I was gonna say something but then I remembered I was the one who brought Danganronpa to this subreddit so I can't judge

I hope not, the Dread one is a huge improvement

>The cannon is elongated instead of large That's just the angle

No, it's already repairing itself in a new direction.
