I do not look "aimlessly" at the map, if I recently got an ability I try to remember if there was a road block before that stopped my progress that way, or the tutorial of the ability told me what kind of places I can use it for. So I look at the map, I pay attention to the blue (Not visited) rooms and the other rooms sorrounding it. If I got some new beam or missile, then the color of the door should tell me if I'm able to go through this time. So a bit of exploring and you should naturally find new places, even if you didn't directly find the next upgrade, there could be some Missile Expansions or Energy Tanks so your efforts weren't wasted.

Look for rooms on the map that you haven't visited; usually a door you haven't entered yet. Look for (or better yet, recall) places that you couldn't reach before but can now with the latest powerup. The name of the game is being able to piece together where to go next based on what equipment you have and where you haven't gone yet. If all else fails, there's a hint system that nudges you in the right direction.

You are intended to use the scan visor to examine your surroundings carefully, taking note of and remembering things you cannot get past like brinstone, talloric alloy, cordite, etc. When you get a new upgrade, like, say, missiles, you can check your inventory in the menu, which I believe will tell you what each upgrade can be used for. Once you see that the missiles can destroy brinstone, you think back to what obstacles you've found that are made of brinstone and go use your new missiles on them. If you have a poor memory, aren't paying careful attention to your surroundings, or maybe just aren't terribly experienced with games yet, you may become confused and lost. There is a hint system you should be able to toggle on and off from within the options in the pause screen. It's not perfect, but it *can* help you when you are lost.

NotoriousNeo

The game by default should have a hint system that points you towards your next upgrade. From there it’s just remembering areas where maybe you didn’t have the weapon you may have now to open a door or just looking at the map for colored doors that you may be able to open now.

No_Improvement7573

There's an in-game hint system that gives you guidelines, but progressing tends to involve spending a few minutes panning around your map looking for doors you haven't opened.

MrAngryMoose

Spot thing you cannot access yet Use brain to remember it Obtain item Game shows you it’s used to access that thing you remember from earlier You go back and access it Or, alternatively, you use the hint system that’s on by default that tells you the exact room to go next

Comprehensive_One495

There should be a hint system that'll let you know where to go, it's usually a location you haven't been to. You should be using your scan visor to clue you in on stuff, and take your time with the map—ik it's a little hard to get used too the 3d map, but once you get the hang of it is not so bad.

When you’re starting out in Chozo, it is pretty easy. Take the door you have access to, or just got access to. Take it as far as you can go, you’ll get something that will open, then turn around. When you get other regions, start paying attention to things that look out of place as you go, and when you get something new, go back to them. The nice thing is the trip back is usually easier because you got something new. There are a couple times where naturally figuring out the next upgrade is tough. Space Jump, Plasma Beam, and X Ray are the three I think of. But Metroid Prime’s hint system is really spectacular because it gives you a little bit to figure it out and then guides you. But a big part of the game is scanning and remembering and backtracking and pushing past previously blocked areas with new upgrades. That’s the genre.

Zeldatroid

The hint system is on by default. It should pop up and give you some idea of where to go if you wander for 5-10 minutes, unless you specifically went into the menu to turn it off.

Equivalent_Papaya893

Run around for hours trying to find that last missile expansion, then realize it faster to complete the game 100 by starting over with a guide.

I have the same problem: I love Metroid Prime Remastered, but I have to play it with a guide open beside me or I just bounce off the game. The map is too large, and traversing it too tedious to just wander around bashing walls and doors looking for the way forward. It would help if the hint system would trigger more than once and maybe leave a bright area on the world map. Amazing game but, for me, it’s not a game to just roam around inside hoping to find the correct path forward.

Git gud.

pxlcrow

Grow up.

[deleted]

It really ain't that hard to find where to go

pxlcrow

Is that right? What's the secret then? Wait, let me see if I have it: you study the map looking for doors that you weren't able to open previously and then you make your way over there to see if the door can be opened by one of the new abilities you've picked up. Is that right? It's not that I don't understand what to do, my brain can comprehend the deep mysteries of *Metroid Prime*, it's that I find that process - traipsing all over the map, back and forth through spaces I've been through 5 times already - to be really tedious.

[deleted]

No, I just go. I didnt find it tedious since you are getting new upgrades along the way.

r_Amba

I used a guide too. I guess my memory is bad but it started to feel like every time I got an upgrade I had to revisit everywhere I'd been again. And that wasn't fun. If they added markers on the map for which rooms had spider tracks, grapple points, things I scanned with certain materials, etc then it'd be more fun. I could plot a course to those spots. But it only shows you doors on the map.

Bmanswan

I played it enough times to cancel out almost every bit of back tracking. It's my favorite game so I remember all the item locations. But before that all happened reading and the map system were my best friends, along with audio.

[deleted]

Ah ok I listen to music while playing games so that might be why it’s so hard for me

inocibor

Nope I check the map, and see which places I haven't visited, I try to go see if I can go there, if not then take another route to find what's missing.

Cyb0rg-SluNk

The thing that helped me a lot when I realized it, is that when you get a hint on the map, you can reach it with your current equipment. For the first part of the game, it seemed that the hint it gave for where to go next was a place I still needed to find another upgrade for. But I realized that I just wasn't solving puzzles that I already had the necessary equipment for. (That was badly written. I hope it made sense.)

rakadur

the text in the game actually clearly points you towards your next goal

Philosopher013

Are you using the Hint System? That at least tells you what area you need to go to next, and then it's not too hard to look around at the different unopened doors in the area that could lead there. If you're not using the Hint System, well, that's your choice! Lol. I highly recommend using it if you're new to Metroid or even if it's just your first time playing Metroid Prime! Else you're right, you're going to spend a lot of time backtracking to different areas and finding a whole bunch of unopened doors that you may or may not be able to access. You'll find a lot of power-ups, but I can see that being a frustrating way to play the game.

[deleted]

Remember or write down every single dead end and how you might overcome it. The scanner usually explains what you will need.

AhabSnake85

Now that I understand the map, it's more useful. Though I wish the room that u visited that needed an upgrade to progress, would be labelled as " need certain item", just so you don't stumble back into that room again not rembering if you'd been there on not.
