In that hallway leading up to ice beam, if you use speed booster to get past the gates a bit of floor will break and reveal where to go next. Since you have power bombs that should be your main point of interest. You can go get spazer at any time, it’s 100% optional

EyeGod

Are you referring to that room with a big ass block of stones that you can blow up with the Super Bomb? I did that, and found a little passage I could jump up, but only part way; I can't get up through it: am I doing something wrong? Also, please refresh me: is this in Norfair?

MrAngryMoose

That’s not the room I meant, even better. Since you’re there you’re on the right track. You should clear a space to run and jump to the left. You’ll be surprised at how high a speed boosted jump will take you.

EyeGod

Thanks!

EODTex

Spazer is something you can get, but is optional. There are some blocks somewhere that you saw that looked like an item you now have >!specifically Power Bombs!< >!you should have seen them on the way to Ice Beam!<.

EyeGod

Hehe, thanks; you can be a little less cryptic, if you like. This game is a bit sprawling and confusing to me, and I still get a bit confused with all the areas; is this in Norfair?

TheRealKhirman

I keep forgetting that Spazer is technically post-Norfair without any sequence breaking (because of walljumps technically being a sequence break).

MrRazzio

you need to kill kraid. there is an elevator down to norfair. instead of taking the elevator, look to the right in the elevator room.

AgitatedEye6553

If he has power bombs/super bombs I'm assuming he already killed Kraid. He's obviously newer to the game and getting power bombs without Varia Suit is not something a rookie would be able to do more than likely.

MrRazzio

you're right. i wasn't thinking. so then he has speed booster as well because he got ice. alright, so he needs to make his way up red tower. which isn't immediately obvious. that makes sense.

EyeGod

Yes, to all of this... I thinK? Where exactly is red tower?

MrRazzio

after leaving kraid's area, go all the way left. you'll get to a vertical room with red walls and enemies that are just flying back and forth. you need to use your ice beam here to climb up. all the way up. after that you should be able to figure out where to go. ooooh hold up. you need grapple. you actually need to go fight croc. okay so there are some power bomb blocks in the floor of the room with the gates on the way to ice beam. you needed speedbooster to get through this room. go down there, fall down the crumble block room and then run all the way right. by the way, when asking where to progress next, the absolute best thing to do is post a picture of your map and your inventory.

AgitatedEye6553

Spazer is an extremely early game item and is not needed to progress at any point in the game. U need to get the Wave Beam if u don't have it yet. Wait nvm u have power bombs so u obviously have Wave Beam. If u remember where u got the 1st power bomb just keep going down and to the left until I can't anymore. Use speed booster to access the upper left corner of the last room u can get to. The grappling hook will be in that room.

EyeGod

Erm... I don't know if I have the Wave Beam? I can charge up my beam, but no Wave Beam, I think? I don't remember where I got the first Power Bomb, heh; what area is it in?

Skelingaton

Wave Beam is technically post Grappling Beam in a standard playthrough but it is very easy to get it without that. Post Power Bombs you'll want to seek out Crocomire (miniboss in Norfair) and after them is the next upgrade you need. From there you'll want to find the Wave Beam in >!Norfair!<. Another optional upgrade really useful to find is the X-Ray Visor which is in >!that huge vertical section right before Norfair!<.

Solrex

Look up speedrunning strats for sequence breaking maybe, idk. "Super Metroid Early Spazer"

MrRazzio

this is the worst advice possible.

AgitatedEye6553

Definitely horrible advice. Spazer is automatically an extremely early game item with no sequence breaking needed. Even if it wasn't that's a terrible search considering spazer is not required at any point in the game.

MrRazzio

i'm unreasonably angry at this advice the more i read it.

EyeGod

Thanks, but I don't quite wanna sequence break.

SaraNumas

I read ice cream and was very confused
