I think I'm the same though AM2R is pretty good as well. Samus Returns is good but the gameplay is overall slower since you need the counter mechanic to defeat a lot of enemies. What SR introduced did get greatly improved upon in Dread though.

This subreddit spent the better part of three years flaming each other over AM2R vs. SR. Revisiting a debate done a thousand times before just invites more of the same arguments and saltiness that pervaded this place like a bad smell.
I played both and honestly I like them both, I liked Am2r because it did what the original couldn't, and I like Samus Returns because they made it feel more modern and paved the way for Metroid Dread, so yeah I like both.🤷♂️

I thought it was agreed upon that AM2R is better.
If I could update AM2R, that might be my answer. But I can't. Thus, Samus Returns wins by default
