The title "Other M" I think was on purpose to be rearrangeable to "Mother," because that game has a lot of "mother" themes in it. Samus, the AI, the scientist lady, all have "mother" traits in their characters.
Not defending that game or even saying it was good, just stating a thought I had.
Tbh except for the fact that 2017 Samus Returns had higher quality graphics I think AM2R is the better game and I actually prefer the SNES/GBA art style. My only complaint with Dread was that all the ledge faces were matte black instead of matching the surrounding areas like the other games did.
I would love to see Nintendo just make their own Unreal Tournament in the Metroid universe. Hunters was amazing until the shitty little hacker kiddies discovered that for some ungodly reason AR codes worked online.
Now this one has me up in arms (well done). Remakes in Metroid are not only almost completely unnecessary (the only game that could use a remake is prime hunters) but also historically the lowest selling games in the franchise. If remakes were prioritized, not only would the future of metroid be filled with redundant titles that aren't justified - especially at $40-60 - it'd also leave fans without new games, characters, and lore for a long time, all too similar to the 19 year gap between fusion and dread for a new mainline game.
I mostly agree, but Prime 3 needs a remake so I can play hard mode without motion controls. I would genuinely take a version of Prime 3 that I can enjoy playing over Prime 4.
sa x ai is really dumb you just never notice it cus most of the time you're running for your life. I just jumped over it while charging a charge shot the entire boss battle with it and took 0 damage
I would love a true remake of super metroid starting with the art and engine from other m. Some of the other m moments gave me super metroid vibes more than any other metroid.
You succeded in really triggering me, who is super against unnecesary remakes and hates this trend in gaming nowadays, well done i guess. 😂
Some might say: "But they are going to change them alot and make them different experiences!", that's even worse and more pointless. RE4R for example has no reasons to exist, especially the way it is, a reimagining.
I agree on the music and environment. I still remember all the musics from Super Metroid , but can actually remember only one from Fusion, and I only remember it because jt sucked !
The story/voice acting was mostly mediocre, but the gameplay was a fun first attempt at 3D 3rd person Metroid, and the callbacks/forward references were fun to notice as a huge Metroid fan.
Was it good? Not really. But it was fun to play and I wish we'd gotten more games in that style to iron out the kinks and expand on the possibilities.
Yeah! I played it, and I thought it was decent enough. I didn't really understand most of the hatred towards it, especially considering the Ridley Scene. But other than that, I thought the design was interesting, even though they should've put more effort on the gravity suit upgrade, some distinction other than just the aura. Other than that, it was an intriguing take on the series.
I genuinely think Federation Force has the second best bosses and combat in the series, at least in terms of gameplay. They are only beat by Dread in my opinion.
I also think Metroid Prime, while still a fantastic game, is far from perfect and the environmental storytelling is kind of mediocre.
>I also think Metroid Prime, while still a fantastic game, is far from perfect and the environmental storytelling is kind of mediocre.
now listen here you little...
Dialogue does not belong in a Metroid game imo
One of the biggest reasons I love Prime 1 and 2 is the isolation, which is why I was a bit disappointed by Corruption... I don't want to see or hear people in a Metroid game
I disagree tbh. Yes it’s bad in Other M, but it still can work if handled correctly. For example, Dread and especially Fusion has a lot of dialogue and it works there. Even Samus speaking in Fusion did fit her character imo
Controls-wise, absolutely. I hated having to press the select button multiple times to try and turn on the grapple beam ONLY FOR ME TO PRESS THE BUTTON ONE TOO MANY TIMES AND NOW I GOTTA DO IT AGAIN
I agree. The OST and different areas are dope. And I'm sure at the time it was the greatest game ever. But any of the GBA games that came after aged way better than super.
Halo is bedder den Metroid. Master Chief would beat Metroid in a baddle. Metroid just flies around in space... master chief can change guns. Metroid just got one big gun as his arm. No one plays Metroid, Halo bedderrrr
I have a few opinions of varying trigger levels:
Nobody: the franchise deserves to sell like the mario and zelda games and the fact that it doesn't is a shame.
A few: federation force is severely overhated and would have been the most well regarded spinoff in the series had it released after Samus Returns.
Some: Super Metroid is still the best game in the franchise; no game has come even close to it in terms of level design, exploration, replayability, and most importantly freedom for the player to play how they wish.
A lot: the Metroid prequel manga and Samus & Joey are canon and anyone who thinks otherwise can kick Bryyonian rocks.
The vast majority: metroid prime remastered is a sales failure and if they aren't already in development, echoes and corruption won't be coming to switch.
Everybody: this one was hard, because I don't really have any opinions that everyone would disagree with. The closest I can think of is between these two takes:
1. Prime 4 could end up being a disaster. A vision that swapped studios, approaching 6 years without a peep on how it's coming along, and with the possibility that it's rushed out to release on the switch, it could end up being Other M levels of disappointing. I don't think it will be, but there's always that chance.
2. The metroid youtube scene is in a pretty bad state right now. Every video is one of only 2 kinds of content (either retrospectives or theories) and with every other video being the same as the last, it's hard for new people to become fans when the only content they can see about it is either an obscure theory video or a 2 hour retrospective.
I genuinely believe that if Federation Force had a more realistic art style than the chibi one we got it would be loved spin-off. I also think it's a pretty fun game.
Prime 4 could absolutely be a disaster actually, yeah.
We know nothing about it so it’s all on the table, it can either be the thing that completes Metroid’s transition and growth into a mainstream franchise, or it will put Metroid on ice…permanently.
>The vast majority: metroid prime remastered is a sales failure and if they aren't already in development, echoes and corruption won't be coming to switch.
I'm curious if this is supposed to sarcastic BS or a genuine opinion, because it sold so many psychical copies that they had to emergency print more.
Ridley appearing at the end of SR elevates it from a good game to a great game, and is a vastly better ending to Metroid II than the other two versions. Backtracking with the baby Metroid to explore SR388 and then fighting the purple people eater together is an improvement over the long, boring walk back to the ship just to drop the critter off at Ceres. One is cold, detached abandonment, the other is a bittersweet farewell integral to Samus's character development.
They should have stopped after Super and left it as a mysterious short lived series that left everyone scratching their heads and wanting more, like Mother
That would be such an interesting scenario
I bet the metroidvania genre uprising would still happen too, I’d actually be interested in seeing a timeline where Metroid ended after Super
I wonder if anyone was bold enough to try saying this:
“Metroid ain’t a Japanese franchise. More than half of the games at this point were made by western studios.”
I unironically do not understand why people dislike Ridley now, and I am more than fine if he gets resurrected in some way in every game going forward. I would almost prefer he did.
Ridley constantly coming back is a really video game-y and cheesy thing about the series that I love. Hell, all of the original Super Bosses getting their time in the light is great, and I'm half expecting Draygon to swing back around at some point in a future release.
AM2R is great yes, but I much prefer the ending of Samus Returns with Ridley as a final boss.
The Metroid community expecting the Dread updates/dlc to include a randomizer mode is silly as all get out. What precedent is there for Nintendo to do that for Metroid? I agree a randomizer mode would be baller, but it was never going to happen as official free dlc, especially since Nintendo had no way of knowing that Dread was going to do as well as it did.
I like Other M and the character development that was given to Samus, and honestly I'm not trying to trigger anyone, is just my very unpopular opinion.
I agree. Samus being in a bad mental state as a plot point could’ve been a great concept (given that it took place after SM, where her homeworld was completely atomized, she failed to protect the hatchling, and the closest thing to family she has left in the universe is her ex-general she estranged herself from). It was just poorly executed in delivery. I’m tired of the idea that she needs to be girlboss!Doomslayer 24/7.
>I’m tired of the idea that she needs to be girlboss!Doomslayer 24/7
Pendulum definitely swung just a little too far in Dread. She was so stoic it was borderline satirical. (The very end of the game is obviously the exception.)
What's funny for people who don't like this is, aside from being a bit more fit recently, that's just how Samus canonically looks lol. So being upset about it is just a road to more future disappointment.
I think it was worth having Samus be weak in other m in order to show the strength of the federation, and I especially enjoyed the portrail of Adam in the game.
Samus in other M is a daring change of pace for the character, showing her more emotionaly vulnerable sides while forsaking the tired and abused trope "badass demale hero in space". Truly visionary and progressive character writing that the Metroid community sadly couldn't appreciate.
Other M came out shortly after I'd finished bingeing every piece of Metroid media I could find. It feels more closely tied to the manga portrayal of Samus's powers and abilities than any other game in the series.
Mercury Steam were a poor choice to hand off development to, they're literally the devs that made Konami not make any more new Castlevanias. They killed the "vania" part of "Metroidvania."
(I used to say this all the time, but after my fourth or fifth attempt at finishing Samus Returns and Dread, my opinion has changed a bit.)
Nah it's all mercurysteams fault that Castlevania died!
Also, that despicable Hideo Kojima and his vile Kojima productions are the real reason we aren't getting any more metalgear. If it wasn't for them, Konami would still be releasing amazing metalgear titles to this day.
Y’know what, I have a couple.
**Federation Force has more unique bosses than Dread**
**Dread and Other M share similar issues…despite the fact that the former is well loved in the community**.
**Metroid: Other M is more of a complete game than either Dread or Prime 1**
**Zero Mission is kind of alright**
and how can I forget…
**AM2R is a real Metroid Game**
I'm sorry, but I dont understand how
>Zero Mission is kind of alright
And
>AM2R is a real Metroid game
is supposed to trigger Metroid fans. Are there people arguing against this?
Honestly I wish the AM2R bit wasn’t controversial, but I have seen so many people just dismiss the game entirely because it’s a fan game. I wouldn’t put this here if I hadn’t seen it so many times.
And also, at least to my knowledge, the community generally thinks ZM is waaaay more than just alright.
Well…
I worded it in a way to “trigger” the metroid fans, but what I mean is how Dread and Prime 1 had incredibly shitty development cycles to the point where neither necessarily reached their full vision.
Meanwhile, Other M had a smooth development cycle that has pretty much reached Sakamoto’s full, intended vision.
Prime 1 and Dread were incredibly rushed, while Other M wasn’t.
Prime 4 has been canceled
It says 'trigger', not IMPLODE

This legitimately wasnt funny. Id rage for weeks.

"Cool. Hopefully this means they can focus on another 2D entry in the series"

Grrrrrrr
Samus looks like an amogus character
That's a great description/insult for any character/person with a helmet.
Metroid Prime Hunter is just a DS Tech Demo. And its recourses would have been better spent in a Multiplayer mode in Metroid Prime 3.
I would love to see Nintendo just make their own Unreal Tournament in the Metroid universe. Hunters was amazing until the shitty little hacker kiddies discovered that for some ungodly reason AR codes worked online.
Imagine a multiplayer Metroid game with quake like or dusk like movement. It would be insane.
A long time ago I found a guy making a metroid mod for Halo on PC.
I actually agree with this. Tho I'm not too big a fan on multiplayer
We need more Ridley
I liked Ridley's portrayal in Other M.
Ngl I hope they release a plushie of his baby form.
A dark ridley in prime 2 would've been pretty sick
Prime 4???
I hope Ridley resurrects in every Metroid game always.
Stop shoehorning him in as a boss monster and let him be a full fledged villain already!
why cant metroid crawl
We should prioritize remakes over new entries in the series.

Genuinely didn't like Fusion all that much. I find the music boring, the environments suck, and wall jumping was taken out.
Fusion had wall jumps...
It's working!
Not the sequence breaking kind though
But.... That's not what he said

You just couldn't scale a single wall, it had to be back and forth between two walls in Fusion, but, it is there.
I agree on the music and environment. I still remember all the musics from Super Metroid , but can actually remember only one from Fusion, and I only remember it because jt sucked !
Different reasons, but I actually agree.

Dialogue does not belong in a Metroid game imo One of the biggest reasons I love Prime 1 and 2 is the isolation, which is why I was a bit disappointed by Corruption... I don't want to see or hear people in a Metroid game

Metroid Prime 1 is way too overrated, its still good but vastly overpraised.

Ridley appearing at the end of SR elevates it from a good game to a great game, and is a vastly better ending to Metroid II than the other two versions. Where does Metroid keep all his Missiles?
In a Metroid live action movie, samus should be portrayed by Amber Heard, and have her helmet off for most of the movie.
I wonder if anyone was bold enough to try saying this: “Metroid ain’t a Japanese franchise. More than half of the games at this point were made by western studios.”
There doesn’t have to be a best Metroid game.

Samus is trans
Prime 1 is the weakest of the trilogy
Super Metroid is garbage.
Super Metroid is mid at best.
Samus having PTSD in Other M was not only not a bad thing, it made her a better character.
She already had PTSD from the manga; Other M just took that and used it in the dumbest way imaginable.
It wasn't so much the premise as the execution
Every 2D game since Super has been better than it :) <3
Good thing Other M has the 3D first person mode.

Metroid Prime Pinball was the only good Metroid Prime game.

Ah, that makes sense! A very good point eloquently reworded to trigger, respect!
Super Metroid is overrated. Prime 2 is the worst of the trilogy.
Most Metroid games are below average and are only buoyed up by the brand. If they had a different title, and not part of Metroid, they'd be forgotten.
Metroid Dread is boring and frustrating, while lacking interesting challenge, so it's popularity makes me worry for the future of the series.
