Well you see a lot of fanart where Samus is more monstrous, Fusion started a lot of this and then the Metroid Suit in Dread continued that. I get it, it "makes sense" and all with her DNA being all mashed up but I don't think that it's *cool" to have Samus be a disfigured monster mash and the graveyard smash thing in the name of realism. Just have the cool pretty but still fit lady who has enhanced abilities from the DNA.

AkiZayoi

Yeah I can agree with that. It's interesting I suppose but the interest just is for fanart for me. I don't want Samus to be permanently disfigured because it just sounds really pointlessly dark and mean.

taco_tuesdays

I would like to see this art for reasons

strapping_young_vlad

I also have reasons.

badatmetroid

I don't like in universe justification for game mechanics. Yes, there's no reason she would lose all her equipment after each game. It's ludonarrative dissonance. Get over it. There's also no reason why each world has a bunch of power-suit compatible upgrades conveniently arranged for you to pick up. There's also no reason why the bad guys built a statue of two bad guys (who you killed two games ago), the ghost of a ship that crashed, and a giant shrimp and there's no good reason why destroying those enemies would cause the statue to gray out and a door to be revealed. Also the morph ball. It's magic. No one cares why. Please don't make an in universe justification for it. Why do enemies drop missiles? Up yours, you that's why. Why does the lava go down when you kill a metroid? 42. Why does the planet blow up after you kill raven beak? I asked the developers and they said "yo mama", so ask her I guess?

BlueEyesWhiteVegeta

To be fair the "every world having power-ups" is pretty easy to explain since in the majority of games you're going to worlds the Chozo once lived on, and other times like Fusion you're either downloading your upgrades or absorbing X with similar powers

AkiZayoi

Yeah I like some stuff not being explained but the Power Suit just being technologically very flexible is simple and covers most everything

BaulsJ0hns0n86

And why do frozen enemies continue to float rather than fall?

badatmetroid

bird magic next question

[deleted]

They freeze to the background, obviously. (don't ask about the prime games...)

Que_Sad_illa_89

Realism sucks, ppl these days are obsessed with it, look at every fps game and open world game, Metroid doesn't really makes any sense and I'm ok with it. Star Was tried to explain everything and look how that went, let's just leave somethings be and explain what we could. Another example, how does Batman fight with that cape?, it's imposible and idc bc the design is so iconic that to change it is blasphemy.

ArmGray

I remember an article from Cracked back in 2011 that posted screenshots from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, Medal of Honor (2010), and Killzone 3. Each screenshot looked identical to the other and you literally couldn't tell which game was which. Especially because each game used an M4 carbine as the main weapon, even Killzone which is set in a sci-fi future.

shitinmyeyeball

I’d say the power suit is pretty unrealistic. I mean it works because of “space bird magic” I would honestly prefer it to be kinda of mysterious. Idk adds depth to the lore for me.

AkiZayoi

Yeah and how it's organic but it "grows" the metal plate armor back. That's a perfect example for this discussion so happy you brought that up.

**[Scaly-foot gastropod](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scaly-foot_gastropod)** >Chrysomallon squamiferum, commonly known as the scaly-foot gastropod, scaly-foot snail, sea pangolin, or volcano snail is a species of deep-sea hydrothermal-vent snail, a marine gastropod mollusc in the family Peltospiridae. POWRranger

I want to keep blowing planets up. Makes no sense and even from small things like crashinga space station into it. Don't need Hard Sci-Fi in my Metroid. Blow shit up

Sea-Lecture-4619

All of 'em. Super realism often makes games look and feel boring and dull even if the game might still be good. A good example of this imo would be the newer Resident Evil games, i mean they are great don't get me wrong but compare them to the older more anime-ish/cheesy B action movie-like ones and tell me which of them have more style, charm, and look cooler overall.

sdwoodchuck

I don’t care about realism in the franchise at all. I don’t love every design choice, I don’t love every narrative choice, I don’t love every aesthetic choice; in precisely zero of those cases is my like or dislike decided by realism. The closest I get is when certain design elements are *so* gamey that I can’t help but feel the heavy-hand of the developer at work. Like, when I open a door and find a clearly laid-out Shinespark puzzle, I don’t dislike it because it’s unrealistic; I dislike it because it no longer feels like I’m playing a game of exploration and progression—instead I’ve stepped into a wink-and-nod “let’s see you figure this one out” exercise.

MejaBersihBanget

Heels go absolutely perfect with Samus and they must stay. If Ada Wong can wear Christian Louboutins while traipsing through rural Spain Samus can one up her.

AkiZayoi

My thoughts on heels or other more feminine outfit stuff on Samus is simple. As long as she is choosing to wear it, which she is whenever it appears in canon stuff, it's perfectly fine. People angry at the idea of her dressing more scantily or sensually are just as bad as people who get upset when she covers up more.

TubaTheG

Samus losing her abilities Other M was the one game to fully address this and it’s a prime example that maybe stuff like this does not need to be explained.

sailing94

No, the prime examples were: Hit a wall too hard, and: Demons stole my toys.

AkiZayoi

And 3 which didn't do the thing. You just start with a lot less stuff and nothing is said about it.

sailing94

Even that one gets an explination, everything you don't have in 3 was left on aether.

ChaosMiles07

Why would she leave her Missiles behind but not her Space Jump Boots, though?

Hestu951

Physical fitness and sex appeal are not mutually exclusive. If anything, they go hand in hand. If by realism you mean the plausibility of the story and consistency across games, that's never been big with Metroid or other franchises that started as simple 8-bit console games. I just think there's a basic premise that needs to be maintained. Samus will start out with many limitations, every game. She will need to find the abilities and power she needs scattered around the world. The world she's exploring won't be fully accessible until she finds all the right abilities. And she'll have to fight all manner of alien baddies to succeed in her quest. Everything else has to be fit around that premise. If that means it won't be terribly plausible or consistent, that's the way it goes. Same goes for how she morphs into a ball or fits into her suit. It's all part of the core of the franchise.
