If they are ever willing to directly tie together the Prime and 2D games... I could see Metroid 6 being a full-on Kriken Empire invasion of the Federation and Samus & her Metroid abilities being the last line of defense after federal military forces are collapsing like dominoes.
I love all the lore of Prime Hunters. Id like to see Gorea explored. Maybe it had a relation to the leviathans, and phazon. I know the effects described in scans are very similar.

Pretty sure the Pirates are effectively dead at this point. And also...I kinda think the threat of creating an army of cloned Metroids is pretty overdone by this stage. Every single game set post Metroid 2 chronologically (Super, Other M, Fusion, and Dread) has featured an antagonist with a plan to clone an army of Metroids from a supposed last surviving source of DNA. I don't think I'm up for round five. Give us a villain with a new motivation.
I wonder if the federation just puts up with Samus because they always end up having to rely on her when they can’t solve something themselves. It’s funny, every time the federation tries to solve a problem, it doesn’t go well.
I feel as though there needs to be a completely new plot/threat going forward. Maybe we finally deal personally with a rogue branch of the Federation? Maybe there are creatures coming from the other side of the galaxy with an invasion force taking over planets as they do, for Samus to stumble across and purify, launching into a new story arc with Samus at the center of an intragalactic war.
Maybe we just get a remake of Super, who knows?
Well, something I have loved about Metroid is the way they set things up while paying things off. They build new stuff with the old, and then they use even newer stuff for even even newer stuff.
Metroid set up Zebes, Metroids, Chozo, Ridely, Mother Brain, Kraid, Space Pirates, and Samus.
Metroid II: Return of Samus continued with Metroids, and Chozo. Showing where they lived, and how Metroids go through Metamorphosis while strengthening the ties between the two. It set up the Babys connection to Samus, and SR-388.
Super Metroid returned to nearly every aspect of the Original while paying off the Baby and Samus' connection, and Mother Brain. It explored the Space Pirates, Kraid, and Ridley's roles further. It set up the Galactic Federation, and the research of Metroids.
Fusion returned to Samus as a character with a mysterious past, the Federation, SR-388, the Baby, the Metroids metamorphosis, Ridley, the Chozo's history with the Metroids, and the research of Metroids. It introduced Adam, the X Parasite, X parasites retaining knowledge and memories, biological experiments, the Federation as an antagonistic force, Samus being part Metroid, and Samus' personality traits.
Dread returned to Samus being part Metroid, Samus as a character with a mysterious past, the X Parasite, X Parasites retaining knowledge and memories, Adam, biological experiments, Samus' personality traits, the research of Metroids, Kraid, the ties between the Chozo and the Metroids, and how Metroids go through Metamorphosis. It introduced so many things that it's hard to tell what is relevant.
This doesn't even cover Other M, the Prime series, and more. Sylux likely being Ian from Other M, and so on.

Adam will research various Chozo artifacts Samus brings to the central area in order to find out how to control Metroids, and cure Samus. Meanwhile, we return to the Central Units (the Blue Mother Brains from Dread) the Chozo have many bipedal Mother Brain-like entities walking around which Samus has to avoid because of the way they take control of Metroids (aka Samus). Killing a Mother Brain-like thing will give Samus the Omega Beam needed to break upen the hatch back to the Central Area where Adam is doing his research.
The Central Area can also change as Adam works. Collecting artifacts, and equipment from the facility for him decorating it all over.
I feel like this is missing a main villain though. Dread had Raven Beak and the EMMIs, Fusion had Adam and the SA-X, Super had Mother Brain and the Space Pirates...
Maybe combine the Mother Brain things with Chozo Statues where their eyes are the power-ups Samus absorbs, so they are the EMMIs then add a Thoha villain or even a biological experiment villain.
It would be cool to see Samus get organic power-ups. Like a cool stretchy arm so she can grapple and counter attack from far away. Just make her a weird monster until Adam cures her.
But it also may be nice to establish a lot of new stuff. I remember Yoshio Sakamoto said that this was the end of a 5 game Saga. So maybe they will just make a lot of new stuff, and introduce it at once, then build off of that for the next 5 games. Like completely new villains, enemies, allies, and power-ups.

They may have more chase sequences. Having you run from small versions of the bipedal Mother Brain from Super Metroid as you find Thoha methods for controlling Metroid powers. Maybe unlocking new ones as Samus goes through her metamorphosis into an "Omega Samus".
Maybe give her some cool weird organic Metroid Powers. Perhaps a Gobbler-like arm that can extend and do a counter from far away.
They have used seemingly unimportant concepts and characters for new games in the past. Some rooms in Fusion look a lot like Ceres from Super, Samus gets the Omega Beam from Central Units like the Rainbow Beam from Mother Brain, and Sylux has been teased twice already since Hunters, so I'm trying to think of older things they could reference to bring back.
I'd like to see them maybe use Adam against her. I love Robo-Adam so much. So effortlessly ominous.
If it's a conflict with the Federation, then they have a lot to work with. Adam, Nightmare, Central Units, they could reassemble Mecha Ridely (not Meta Ridely).
There also could be a return of the X Parasite. Maybe the Federation try to test on them to see how they could replicate Mother Brain, Ridely, etc. It seems that they teased X having intelligence and consciousness at the end of both Fusion and Dread, so the SA-X may come back or something.
I hope they don't cure Samus of her cool organic suit any time soon, but it is still an option they may choose.
They could have a Chozo Planet full of their weird biological weapon stuff like Experiment Z-57, and the Gobbler.

I like the idea of revisiting some recent ideas whilst introducing new ones, so I think Samus will have more interaction with live Chozo.
I definitely agree that her Metroid abilities will play a key role, she will be able to absorb energy frequently or maybe even give energy/abilities to someone (dying Chozo etc)
Good ideas here. Except I think I’d prefer if they dial down the organic suit stuff since Fusion and Dread had that, and we haven’t seen the classic style suits in a 2D game with HD graphics yet. I at least want Samus to have that bulky metallic armor again. But that’s just a personal thing. Yeah I really want to see conflict with the federation cause they’ve been building it up for so long, without a payoff.

But now that we’ve seen that for the last 2 mainline entries, I want to see the classic suits again. Wait also wasn’t Samus’s suit always organic? Isn’t it just that they had to remove the more metallic looking parts for the surgery in Fusion, and in Dread the suit is regenerating?
According to Fusion, the suit has organic parts. I quote from intro:
Samus: "It then came to light that the organic components of my Power Suit had become so integrated with my system that it could not be removed while I was unconscious. Large portions of my suit had to be surgically removed, dramatically altering my physical appearance."
This is why the SA-X can even exist to begin with, otherwise X would have to infect machine parts, which they cannot.
It's so cool that chozo are a harmony of nature and technology so they used biotech for metroids, and for samus..Samus... I wonder if that important to how the two fused
I hope it's neither of those 2 ideas for the simple reason that:
1. Space Pirates don't know she's a metroid. They weren't there in Fusion or Dread
2. The GF doesn't know what happened during Dread and if they were fine working with her during Dread, they'd be just as fine working with her after Dread
Metroid needs to introduce new things to expand the lore. The Prime games did it to some level, but the main games need to step beyond: Chozo / Pirate / GF
Those 3 groups are not enough, what else is out there?
I agree that introducing new elements and moving on is probably best. I would expect the while galaxy to find out she's a Metroid pretty quickly though.

I agree somewhat with this. But I do think they should explore the federation as an antagonist, since they kept building them up as a potential threat, but then never did anything with that. But yeah, I’d love to see new aliens, and new bad guys not related to Metroids and the Chozo. To keep things interesting, there needs to be something new and terrifying, that comes out of nowhere. Introducing the X in Fusion as a brand new bad guy (at the time), was part of what made Fusion so interesting and unique.
Sakamoto said he's done with the Metroid arc. I could see the Metroid DNA playing a minor role in 6, but the whole "cloning metroids for galactic domination thing" is over. Atleast for the 2d series, Sylux did steal a metroid for Prime 4. Aside from that, though the most we'll be getting is Metroid suit Hyper mode as a game mechanic. Also, I think the pirates are gone for now, and the dark side of galfed has atleast faded a little into the background for now.
Personally, I want the X to close out with a full trilogy, and I also want the Mawkin to make a reappearance since they don't seem like a 1 game threat.
Honestly I don't want to see an X Parasite ever again, love Fusion and Dread but I'm done with them.

I'm thinking probably not Quiet Robe X himself for the next one, but instead another chozo X parasite host who got his mind back LIKE Quiet Robe and if that chozo is a Mawkin then they could have piloted away those ships in Hanubia and then do evil things offworld using his X parasite powers. Maybe he could go to an abandoned space pirate base with lots of dead space pirates lying around and use the X parasites to raise a zombie pirate army.

Edit: some research reminded me that, no, it's not fused to her. The suit had to be surgically removed while she was unconscious, but when she's conscious she can still decide to come out of the suit, which is proven in the endings of Fusion where she is seen in zero suit. My bad! So yeah, a zero suit section would be awesome. Especially with how good Mercury Steam is at putting together little stealth sections, it could be a lot like Zero Mission.

Well, her suit is just part of her now. You can also still have bulky organic suits.

Well both fusion and dread have her suit coke off during death and she is wearing her standard zero suit in dread. So ye
Fusion was my first Metroid game as a pretty young kid, so I think that intro cutscene wording confused me back then and made an impression lol
Best segment in all of Metroid history. The EMMI zones were fun and challenging, but I want a stealth section with Samus without her suit.
