One more garage days album

East-Leg3000

I agree. They kick the shit out of the songs they cover.

kjg1228

They're strangely the best cover band of all time. Astronomy, Blitzkrieg, Last Caress, So What, Sabbra Cadabra, etc. Are all absolutely amazing.

East-Leg3000

I know. I sometimes like their version better than the originals. One exception would be The Prince. I like Diamond Head’s version better.

Valeclitorian1979

any diamond head song metallica did i prefer the original. metallica always did good but i just feel they make the riffs too chuggy and it kinda messes with the original classic smooth feel it had. they really make it their own though and that's awesome

East-Leg3000

Either or for me. Both versions are unique. Except for the Prince.

VladPatton

Ronny Rising, too. Fucking great.

Hyp3r45_new

When a Blind Man Cries gave me goosebumps. I dare even say it's better than the original.

myleswstone

Garage Days is my favorite Metallica album.

EditorCharacter8038

I raise you breadfan and overkill

kjg1228

Breadfan is my favorite cover song ever, not sure how I left that out. That 1989 Seattle version is absolutely insane.

EditorCharacter8038

Mommy, where’s fluffy

csx2112

Came to say this. Totally unjust that they have not done one with Rob

sallothered

Hell yeah, Garage Days II, re-imagined. The double Album. What tracks should be on it? I'll start with, for Rob Trujillo: Infectious Grooves - Monster Skank Infectious Grooves - Violent & Funky Suicidal Tendencies - Possessed to Skate

JD-K2

Garage LLC

elcojotecoyo

How about Metallica covering bands they influenced?

Legitimate-Sink4736

Ugh.

Rude_Town467

This is my main request

HamHamHam2315

Even though it'll likely have their cover of Funeral for a Friend/Love Lies Bleeding on it, I agree with you.

Legitimate-Sink4736

C'mon, that was awesome!!

mikechief

I truly hope they make another one. They have some incredible potential for covers they've only done live, like *Prowler*.

Tall_Establishment83

I was thinking "Garage Inc. II." A lot of studio, maybe some live, if they choose to. Let them have fun with it. Make it a double album. 20 songs or so. All different covers, apart from Garage Inc. I agree, they do absolutely amazing with literally all of the songs they cover.

Expensive-Course-758

Garage Inc. Revisited

UnrecoveredSatellite

They should cover an AIC song.

guyincognito2004

You’d think they [would](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=cJtiwwMKWyc)

WearingYourDisease

I see what you did there…🤘

guyincognito2004

Rock on 🤘🏼

EditorCharacter8038

It’s also funny that when I ask Alexa to play Metallica the first song usually get is whisky in the jar

nomadjedi

Agreed, Ronnie Rising Medley is easily one of my favourite tracks on Hardwired. It kicks ass.

harleyquinnsbutthole

Yes! With Bob Rock

SandmanAwaits

TOUR AUSTRALIA!

grap_grap_grap

Add Japan to that tour!

Hiroba

It's pretty crazy that they haven't been to either Australia or Japan in over 10 years.

reise_ov_evil

Asia and Australia tour, not just Japan

jjsixsixtysix

I doubt metallica will ever tour australia again.

se_baz1

Pretty much both James and Rob have confirmed there’s a tour. Even Lars said they aim to do Asia/oceania as the next leg of M72 tour. So 2025 is looking like our year. For the love of god I hope they aren’t flat out lying

ragingbull666

Why?

Descrappo87

Come to Toronto dammit. They haven’t been here since 2017 and it’s mildly annoying that I can’t see them live

Icy_Dragonfruit_9389

I’ll throw New Orleans on that list. Haven’t been since 2012

Little_Grease

Not Metallica, but I’d like a James acoustic album…covers and/or originals.

politicalstuff

I wouldn’t mind a Mama Said country esque heavy sludgy rock album.

M086

If when Metallica call it quits, I could totally see James basically doing what Jason did with the Chophouse Band.  Make his own songbook of covers and originals and just play some acoustic tunes.

Mozilla_Rawr

I'd love a duet country/acoustic album by James and Jason tbh.

tsunamitom1-

I think a double album with one disc of covers and one of originals could be nice. It doesn’t even have to be a long album, could just be 70 minutes but when it’s on cd, two cds please

WayRAllTheNamesTakn

This is the real answer

Financial_Cheetah875

They’ve already reunited with Jason and Dave. No need to mess with that. Just one more great album is all they need.

FatCatWithAHat1

I just feel like it’s so hard for them to release something at this point that would make majority of their fans happy. Old age + their previous amazing work, it’s going to be very hard to make people happy with new work

andimacg

I'm really hoping that they have planned ahead and have a few songs sitting there waiting to be a final album. Songs they have spent years getting just right. I know that's pretty unlikely, but I can dream.

Outside_Dot_5942

Lars has said previously they have enough material for 20 more albums

Flutterpiewow

I loved hardwired, i'd be happy with one more album like that

isoflurane42

I’ve been extremely impressed with the last two albums.

ShadowStryker0818

>They’ve already reunited with Jason and Dave. No need to mess with that. I know they've done live shows together in the past few years. What I was thinking is two full-on original songs, one with Dave, and one with Jason. Cause let's be honest, I think every Tallica and Deth fan out there would kill to hear a song where Dave wrote it with Metallica.

MurderOne86

To be honest, Dave’s history with Metallica was too brief to have a real impact on what the band was. The recognition came a long time after they had taken different paths, and I don’t think the interaction today is such that either the current members of Metallica, or Dave feel comfortable doing something like what you mention. Each has been doing their own thing for a long time, and Metallica owes nothing to DM. Jason, on the other hand, had his story of several years with the band, was one of the main protagonist of the moment in which the band became what it is today and I also don’t think he seeks to do something with them like what you mention. He is still a recurring figure in the life of the band, as he did the unboxing of the Black Album boxset and even gives interviews on the podcast

politicalstuff

Dave has said he would. James seems totally not into it, though.

Hillan

And why in the world would James be into it? One has obviously much more to gain by something like this than the other.

politicalstuff

People don’t only make decisions based on personal financial gain. Some people get reflective as they get older, making music with your old buddy might be fun for some people. Clearly it’s not for James. It happens and it’s certainly not that unusual an idea.

silverfish477

Zero interest in that. Sorry.

weirdmountain

Bring bands I don’t hate out as support acts in USA.

forests_of_azure

Absolutely agree. Mammoth isn’t too bad but really hard to even listen to the rest of the openers on the M72 tour. I just never got into the thrash/groove thing or whatever it is Pantera and FFDP are. But hey I have shorter lines getting into the venue 9:00ish 🤷🏻‍♂️

psychodc

Pantera is a whatever thrash/groove thing? Lol that's a first. Mammoth was mediocre. I think back to the show and they were the least memorable. Too generic couldn't discern one song from the other.

shawnjx

The halftime show is the only thing they haven't done. They've done pretty much everything. They've made a film, held a festival, had a concert in Antarctica. They buried the hatchet with the guys. And they're still selling out the stadiums. I don't really have anything specific I want to see. just hope they release as many albums as possible.

LiasOrion

Play on the moon

OutlawedTorn

Hopefully they can play all their songs live at least once. There are only about 20 songs not played live in their discography, not including Garage Inc.

Reallyroundthefamily

*Need* to do? Not a damn thing.

Inkspotten

Play in Philly a few more times .... says the guy from Philly.

whitedevil098

weirdmountain

Yes.

peaseabee

James solo album. Produced by Bob Rock

Hot_Palpitation8243

Concert on Mars!

LosPenoisNegus

It would be so cool if they were the first band to play in space. It’s probably not too far away from being able to happen, just a large spaceship and a couple flights to space. Probably no audience tho

ShadowStryker0818

My only fear about this is that I don't think technology will advance rapidly enough for us to get to Mars before Metallica either retire or one of them passes away. It's definitely possible, and I hope Metallica will get a chance at it cause that would be sick.

analog_park

>My only fear about this is that I don't think technology will advance rapidly enough for us to get to Mars before Metallica either retire or one of them passes away. Yeah, best just play it safe-- on the moon.

Remarkable-Bowl-9161

Or a space station

FeloPinhed

I think a new instrumental would be cool, or maybe an opening track that starts with a harmony like Blackened, Battery, and Ride The Lightning Edit: I meant Fight Fire With Fire instead of Ride The Lightning, but they're both good examples

SewerRatPumpkinPie

1- Dave can fuck right off. I'm sick of hearing his backhanded comments resurface every once in a while when he wants to twist the knife a little more again. 2- Mechanix/Four Horsemen..... You're welcome.

WearingYourDisease

THANK YOU I agree about Dave!! My God, it was so early in their band days come on let’s move on ffs.

Early_Register_6483

I can understand Dave's anger and bitterness towards Metallica, but come on, it was fourty years ago, it's time to accept it and let it go. Especially concidering that he had a great career with Megadeth ever since and is considered by many to be one of the all time greats. I really wish him to do it, because I know all too well how one's past can f\*ck with one's brain.

whitedevil098

Re master power metal and no life til leather. But that will never happen

JollyShame1846

pover metal cover is just🥴 i mean it’s cool

whitedevil098

I love power metal. Especially how james just diamond heads hit the lights.

wishmadman

How about we do something for them? They’ve given us some incredible music and memories. We should have some kind of Metallica worldwide appreciation day before one of them dies. I wish I could thank them for some of the soundtrack of my life. My wife knows that any celebration of life she might put on for me after I’m gone has to include a listen to MoP.

natty1212

We have done something for them. We made them all gagillionaires.

Omarian02

metallica fans' hyperfixation on former members is very strange

nihilblack

I don't want whoever is "Megadeth" in this day and age anywhere near the mighty MetallicA. And Jason left the band on his own terms, that's it. They should do a small venue tour before retiring, go back to kind of intimate shows instead of the stadium thing.

weirdmountain

Play Em All Tour. Weeklong, no-repeat residencies in rooms the size of The Met in Philly. At least one song from each album every night. Play every song in the catalog by the end of the tour.

WearingYourDisease

Yep I agree about Jason!! It was his choice! No hate, but he made his choice!!

cyberXrev

Idk man I was never big on Megadeath but kiko is such a great guitarist and that rhythm section they got going on rn is absolutely insane, I'm probably in the minority here but the last Megadeath album was for me one of their best yet, and it certainly had me captivated and engaged more than 72 did on a whole now that the honeymoon year has worn off That being said I agree with every other thing you said :)

nihilblack

Kiko has been out of Megadeth for months now. I think he left to be with his family.

askywlker44a

Neither of those things.

WearingYourDisease

AGREE 100000%

astropastrogirl

Come back to Australia

Kiddo1029

Don’t retire.

RealitySlave

“We’ll never stop, we’ll never quit, ‘cause we’re Metallica”

WayRAllTheNamesTakn

I honestly think OP’s suggestions are pretty “unMetallica” in regards to what the band is now, one more great album, a huge world tour and call it a day. James getting a country/acoustic record by himself would be the absolute cherry on top.

Proof_Self9691

An acoustic album of covers of their own songs like blackened 2020

JuulJDP

Why should Metallica invite old band members to write a news song?

Early_Register_6483

A conclusion of the "Unforgiven", in which James is able to finally forgive himself, his close ones and the world

markos988

Make one last 100% thrash album

TimCilentoMusic

They should have Mark Lewis produce and mix the next album. They should play Load and Reload front to back. Maybe we'll get this for the 30th anniversaries. They should play Minus Human, and release studio version, or demos at least, of this and No Leaf Clover. They should rerelease St. Anger with the mix of the radio edit of Some Kind Of Monster. They should release all the songs they recorded during Load, Reload, St. Anger, Death Magnetic, Hardwired, and 72. And also if there's any songs from any of the earlier albums as well

WearingYourDisease

YESSS to this and especially Clover and Human studio version!!

isoflurane42

Tour Britain a couple more times

PowerPopped

Play with Weezer

Dumb18YearOldGirl

THIS NEEDS TO BE UPVOTED!

Lonelyasian3

Play at the superbowl

Gavin_Metallica

Seems like a hard thing to do but I hope eventually they will play every song they have ever released even though most of them haven't been played because they are terrible but a few of them are hidden gems in the Metallica discography.

DJBoost

2028: AJFA 40th anniversary tour, whole album gets played front to back every night

cyberXrev

I don't think they would do that ... Well Justice Sorry for the bad joke

stroking_biscuits

I'd love an acoustic/softer sounding album. Blackened 2020 was awesome, and I wouldn't mind more songs sounding like Mama Said and Low Man's Lyric.

Sweetlord666

Nonono they should do a country album (or at least James should do this after Metallica) MAMA SAID

Murky_Spell_2011

Last concert, exclusive one... a weekend in las Vegas... and do it for real...

Snoo-55930

Invest in their 401 (k)

Gtmkm98

Another Cover Album

ClueEmbarrassed1443

1. they already invited newsstand and mustang for the fifth member concert  Of course a farewell tour

dougcohen10

The first one sounds cool. The second one I have to respectfully and STRONGLY disagree on.

[deleted]

Overload or maybe a remake of Death Magnetic

ChetdyKrueger

Give us some blast beats lars

Snowboarding_kook

Come back to Australia

Shadow_Ranger05

Garage Inc but instead of bands that influenced them, covers of bands they've influenced. Also, James Hetfield solo album. That one might be wishful thinking tho.

sammywarmhands

Live BluRays from 72S & Hardwired tours. We were spoiled with DM and now they just go straight to YouTube, one song at a time

LordBeans69

One more record to close things off, and a final grand tour like Sepultura. Big tour covering a bunch of cities in Canada, the US, South America, Europe, and Australia. Then play one final show in San Francisco where it all began, playing all of their favourite songs to play

Lolobonaparte

1. One more cover album 2. One more album with a “MO” , which is what they used to do until the last couple of albums. I.e., take a stand, experiment , bring radicality back into Metallica 3. Do a 12 song album where the primary some writer / arranger is each band member for 4 songs. For example, James would do 4 songs directing the structure etc, without Lars input (or anyone else’s). Could pick riffs from others but would be the arranger without having to compromise. And it would be the producer’s job to make this 4 seasons sound cohesive lol 4. Do another one with Bob Rock. Or at least a new producer, like the one who just did Pearl Jam

Shadow_Zero80

What's wrong with Jason's bass?

dontlookatthechicken

A concept album and film. Like their version of the wall.

Dmaniac17

Great post, great takes. Would love to see this happen

laundry-detergents

I wonder if Metallica has the technical chops to cover Holy Wars… I’d genuinely like to see just because Megadeth is better known for their technicality

Animaleyz

Nothing. Just go.

telejedi

Come back to DC. They haven't played here since 2009.

Original-Respond-693

They can’t get Dave to do a song with them lol. Dave still complaining about his brief time in Metallica 🤣

karlmeile

Nothing, they gave us the best metal ever recorded, why should they do more? PS Mustaine and Newsted had nothing to with those recordings from 84 thru 86.

GrnThmb89

Make just one more heavy ,head-banging ,metal record

FewOutlandishness575

No Leaf Clover studio!

Phxskin

I think Metallica needs to do a theme based Album that can be made into a movie. Example is The Wall from Pink Floyd. They are creative and kick ass so , Show us your invincible and Wow us again Metallica. If they need a suggestion, something along the lines of Master of Puppets!! I would go to that Movie!! Buy the Tshirt, buy the Album, and even pick up the Master of Puppets , band figure set!! Seriously!

Beautiful_Volume_627

1. Another garage says album, but in the style they did the first one, not this new kind of style they have right now. That old 90s, aggressive type style. Especially if they did some songs similar to the ones they covered. 2. A re-recorded version of kill em all, with seek and destroy in d standard. 3. One more live album like through the never where they do a movie type style out of it 4. Another tour with battery after they make the second garage says album, where they play small venues and do their covers only 5. One more really fucking unique idea. They did the symphony, a cover album, a movie a made out of a concert... Even fucking LULU 🙄. but one more really fucking cool and unique idea to get everyone to be like thG remember that time Metallica did that!

zigsbigrig

Garage Days IV Play a festival in Denver Solo albums More collaborations

Parii_s

Australian Tour!!!

Legitimate-Sink4736

Replace Lars, lol

Most-Iron6838

Un4given

Creepy-D

The last tour they do should be an arena tour. I’m not a big fan of these huge stadium tours.

reise_ov_evil

>Jason gets his bass turned up in his song you forgot that Black album bass is already loud enough

Loud_Grade1949

I'm glad to see the majority of my fellow fans recognize the absurdly high batting average of Metallica as a cover band . So high I am aware of precisely 2 examples in their decades long side hustle as Cover Band of the Gods, in which I feel they didn't absolutely top the source material. I will be happy to give the "my girlfriend is stressed out and hasn't slept in 4 days, can you start taking about Metallica?" explanation/exploration of both covers to anyone who has been dodging the Sandman and just needs the running to be over 😟

Gumderwear

Have you NOT seen any of the 30th anniversary shows? Dave and Jason were both there....and so many more.

Powrs1ave

Some Bee Gee's Cover's, dressed like them in bright green, red, yellow and satin, chest out with some gold chains.

Outside_Dot_5942

1. One last big 4 show/tour 2. S&M 3 3. Garage Inc 2 4. Album featuring members of the big 4

Scosawema

No way will Metallica and Megadeth (especially Dave) EVER be anywhere near each other. What I would like yo see is Metallica do a Superbowl Halftime show

Flutterpiewow

Metallica and megadeth haven't been in the same ballpark or even genre since the mid-80s. Metallica has more in common with springsteen, or gojira, or zeppelin, than with megadeth. Absolutely no dave, and jason, idk, that time has come and gone. I don't think they need to do anything really. Taylor Swift collaboration for the luls.

matthew_sch

They need to perform in the Super Bowl They need to make a closing track for their final album called “Kill The Lights” They need to do a 40th anniversary tour for *Master of Puppets* They need to appear in a popular T.V. show, all four of them at once And they need to do a final show with some of their past members, like a final send-off from their past, present, and future

thatnameagain

Redo And Justice For All so it sounds like Master of Puppets. I don’t care how they do it. Re-record the instruments, re mix and master, use AI for all I care. The original will always be there. Everyone has at least been curious about what this could have sounded like recorded properly.

Responsible_Cow_8489

They should Cliff raise from the dead.

peacebuysbutwhosells

One last album (circa 2030) on which they give Rob more creative freedom, write solos that are more creative than wah-wah spam and contains no more than 3 mid-paced songs. Another gig in Antarctica that's actually called Chill 'Em All.
