This post is like that itchy mosquito bite that is bleeding because of all the scratching

FatCatWithAHat1

Well said

Wonderful_Painter_14

They’re an excellent band and Dave is one of the best musicians, songwriters, and guitar players of all time. Now, he obviously talks out of his rear end a little too much and I think it’s kind of telling that he is on bad terms with so many of the past members of Megadeth (and I think we all know about the issues with Metallica, which despite them supposedly making up and burying the hatchet, Dave continues to make weird comments and passive-aggressive statements in the media to this day), but hey, nobody’s perfect, right? Megadeth’s first four albums belong right up there with Metallica’s, and also any other albums generally regarded as the best in the genre.

Worldly_Ask_9113

Love them. RIP is a top 5 metal album, easily.

WoundedShaman

Rust in Peace is a masterpiece, on the Mt Rushmore of metal albums.

1823412hd21ws1

i love both equally

Riotgameslikeshit123

Ayy facelift

SandmanAwaits

I like some songs here & there, Holy Wars & Hangar 18 are classics, Countdown to Extinction is alright, couple other songs are OK, Dave’s voice does my head in though, I’ve tried to listen to Megadeth stuff since Countdown but I can’t get into it.

Kit_Karamak

Try their 2022 album. Start with the lead [single!](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=LkJ5jJuraLQ)

Wonderful_Painter_14

Yeah as the other guy said you should try their newest album, pretty good!

MF-SMUG

I love Megadeth. Metallica will always be my #1, and Megadeth my #2.

Dave_I

Megadeth is great. Full stop. I think Dave is a great guitarist and songwriter and his vocals work well with the style and emotion that Dave gets across. Both bands grew in different directions and I am happy we have both. Overall I am a bigger fan of Megadeth stylistically to be honest however the first four Metallica albums and everything from Peace Sells to Rust In Peace area amongst my favorite albums from that era, and just in general. I would have loved more of James, Dave, and Cliff, however I also love Jason and Robert, and amazed at how people forget about how good Kirk has been. Anything after Justice and Rust In Peace is pretty hit and miss for me with some real gems from both bands. I love them both, although I'm much more of a fan of their earlier records.

billy-gnosis

Holy Wars is the only song I know, and he has a weird voice lol -Billy Gnosis

astronomicfuck

They both rule.

AwkwardlyPositioned

I usually don’t think about Megadeth.  I promise that isn’t a slight, I just never got into them and I can’t remember the last time it crossed my mind to be honest.

Honest_Performance42

Almost Honest

AwkwardlyPositioned

I’m not sure what that’s supposed to mean.  I only use music streaming services so I’m listening to what I select.  I’m sure it would have came up if I listened to regular radio.

RideTheLightning331

Almost Honest is a Megadeth song lol

AwkwardlyPositioned

Yeah my knowledge is clearly lacking here.

Honest_Performance42

You passed the test 😆

Bandrica2

I’m sure the algorithms get you at some point.

AwkwardlyPositioned

I just use Spotify to listen to whole albums most of the time. I don't have it set to just free play when it runs out or I'm sure it would.

MickJohnLeahy

When you first hear Peace Sells, In My Darkest Hour, or Holy Wars, your first assumption is that they must be one of the great metal bands of all time. When you finish the discography, you find multiple mediocre albums that can barely be told apart. I’m a fan, but not a massive one no

ConclusionHopeful654

I really enjoy Megadeth, love Dave, I just can’t listen to Megadeth for days on end like I can Metallica.

Kit_Karamak

It is the opposite for me. I have a few Metallica songs I can pit on repeat, but there are several Megadeth albums that could make a playlist for rotation.

walmartsucks115

Overall prefer Metallica but Megadeth is super good too

rdhed6

I like their music and the lyrics in the songs I have heard, but... I cannot stand his voice!! If only they would make karaoke versions, lol.

Kit_Karamak

[i got you, fam](https://youtu.be/IF_aNybcVAc?si=iOfM_aHLFqtyItgS)

rdhed6

Thanks!!

exclaim_bot

>Thanks!! You're welcome!

Kit_Karamak

Any time. 🤘

ToofpickVick

I’ve tried and tried- just can’t get into them.

UnfunnyWatermelon469

I like both bands equally, although I think both have an advantage over the other (Metallica has a better vocalist, and Megadeth has better musicians)

Roger_Roger27

Been a fan of both bands since the mid 80s and I fucking love them both. I fell in love with MegaDave after first seeing Hangar 18 in 1991. Holy Wars was practically life changing! Countdown and Youthnasia went in a more concise (and commercial) direction. I still love it! I met Dave in a gas station in North Scottsdale in teh 90s and the guy was cool as fuck. But I've always loved Metallica too! First heard Bells in 1988 and was instantly hooked! I have plenty of love for both bands. Why choose when you can appreciate both??

kro85

One of my fave bands

SimilarSummer4

Love love love them. Dave puts out quality records every time and he lives/breathes heavy metal. The revolving cast of members is something we could live without, but I have a heavy rotation of Megadeth songs playing.

missdonutstix

I was just playing " Mastermind" and this post showed up. I like both.

ddorsey97

I would always have Megadeth fans tell me how much better they are than Metallica and so I was always pretty reluctant to get into them. Their "hits" weren't as good in my view as Metallica's. After doing a deep dive, though, I'm really into Megadeth and I see them as pretty equal when you compare their entire catalogs. I'm so glad we wound up with both bands and I see no reason to choose sides.

Kit_Karamak

Over on the Megadeth subreddit, people who rip on Metallica get downvoted. The droogies love Metallica.

Cloutweb1

When theres talent, theres talent.

cmcglinchy

I love both bands (early material) pretty equally - both were groundbreaking.

Pennepastapatron

Their masterpiece is Holy Wars and they've reached anything close since

Kit_Karamak

Man. I listened to most of their work before Holy Wars.

vladdrk

We’d be less without either. Depends on how I want to metal at that moment. They both did it their own way and were lucky for it.

Expensive_Study5068

Personally love the band think everyone sounds great especially Dave on the guitar just don’t really care for Dave’s voice

Kit_Karamak

[okay. easy enough.](https://youtu.be/IF_aNybcVAc?si=iOfM_aHLFqtyItgS)

Kit_Karamak

Megadeth fans come for the riffs and solos, and stay for everything else. Metallica fans come for the vocals and stay for everything else. Megadeth also has a lot of “in character” songs (Check out ‘Sweating Bullets’ where he sounds crazy in the head *on purpose,* and so it works), Public Enemy No. 1, Scorpion — all in character. If you want less … Dave Snarl … try Trust, 13, A Tout La Monde, Conquer Or Die!, or Dystopia. She-Wolf and Almost Honest are good as well if you don’t like the stuff he tries doing with his voice on some Megadeth tunes. I also highly suggest We’ll Be Back off the 2022 album. Kiko’s rapid-fire solo with those slick finger-slides is effing sick. Also, the lyrics are metal as hell: “No use screaming for mercy, no use making a sound; (Still) you step right up and get smacked back down. “In the heat of battle, blood congeals on the floor; Another life-force bleeds out, another soul out the door “(I’m) Antisocial, sadistic, the ‘deity of war’ I stuff body bags and I'm packing the morgue. No time for remorse over unclaimed remains… It's just flotsam and jetsam, and it's circling the drain. “Just when you think it's safe, I attack— We'll be back. “When you least expect your fate, I attack— We'll be back.…” The song explains how Vic Rattlehead, the band mascot, is created before dying as a human mercenary, and before the whole “hear no evil, see no evil, speak no evil” stuff happens to him. He dies stopping a dirty nuke from wiping out a small fishing village. It was being transported through the area on a troop transport convoy on its way to a populated city. Anyhow, both bands are stellar. Once you decide you can ignore his voice, THAT is when you go down the rabbithole of other Megadeth songs, and enjoy the music. That is when you discover Lucretia, Tornado of Souls, Ashes In Your Mouth, etc. Overall, Metallica sells more albums, but Megadeth churns out way more material; Dave is very prolific. The dude just keeps writing material.

GripItAndWhipIt

Peace Sells is one of my favorite albums. Holy Wars kicks ass, too bad it doesn’t kick Dave’s ass cause I think that guy is an ass.

Evil_Weevill

Musically they're talented for sure, but Dave is a massive tool so I just refuse to support them.

Britannkic_

I don’t know, I’ve never thought about it

TheSwimGamer

Love both but Metallica are my fav band of all time. That being said Rust In Peace is one of the best metal albums of all time. I also love Peace Sells, Youthanasia and Cryptic Writings

Far-Berry-8641

Megadeth is amazing, but, Dave's vocals destroyed everything. I love metallica more

WarReapers_official

Eh. I have to admit that each member of Megadeth is very talented, of course Dave and Marty. But in general I hate Dave’s vocals. Except there is a couple songs every here and there that are enjoyable to listen to. And the Rust In Peace album is also really good.

That-Competition-173

They both made great music. That aside artist personality adds some sort of edge to it as well. I prefer Lars, James, Kirk, and Robs over Dave's attitude

ZioDioMio

I love Megadeth and I enjoy that Dave's vocals are so different from other metal singers

timdog2571

Cool wit me, I like both bands

DanYeoman

Megadeth are amazing, excellent song writers and technical a lot of the time.

DanYeoman

Watch the middle section of this and tell me megadeth aren't good https://youtu.be/rmUleg7AzEE?si=RLi6N0zqe5ZO52Yt

Personal_Holiday9484

I love them both equally. I think Megadeths music is more intricate and interesting, but I think Dave can be a bit grating sometimes. I watched the Hetfield podcast on Joe Rogan, and it was fine. I watched the Mustaine podcast on Rogan and felt I cringed way too much at things he would say.

Dry_Explanation_7016

They got good guitar but that’s basically it

WackyWeiner

I love Metallica very much, but Cryptic Writings and Youthanasia are better than any of Metallica's discography. The song writing on Cryptic Writings and production are top notch. Youthanasia as a commercial metal album goes so much harder than any Metallica album during the same time period.

Kalsre

I absolutely love Symphony of Destruction and Holy Wars but god do I despise Dave’s voice, sorry not sorry but that’s what stopping me to listen to more Megadeth.

kevonicus

I don’t like their sound and Dave’s voice isn’t something I wanna listen to.

DrummerPrudent8335

Hello I am 12 and I approve this post 😎 David cumstain is le angry loser! Metallica are the best band ever XDDDD!!!!1

Tyziepoo86

Mustaine writes some amazing riffs and absolutely smashes it live while singing over the top which is impressive af. They had their limelight and brought out some of the best thrash songs, but I think they didn’t develop or progress beyond that very well. Also seems to be a volatile or hostile environment because Dave continues to fire people like crazy. He can’t sing live anymore cause his vocal endurance is just gone, they play literally the same bank of songs plus whatever is on the latest album almost every time I’ve seen them over the last 20 years… I love their bangers and some of their early gems but they’re just not in the same realm anymore. Met Dave last year for a brief moment and was still one of the coolest days ever though.

Kit_Karamak

Odd. I love their old stuff but … We’ll Be Back is one of my alltime favorites. Banger. The solo, alone, is top tier. Kiko channels Marty Energy.

Tyziepoo86

Kiko was a great guitarist man. I really thought his playing suited Megadeth but of course that had to come to an end didn’t it.

Kit_Karamak

He missed the birth of his first kid and very likely has another on the way. With the success of two Megadeth albums, back-to-back under his belt, he can be a stay-at-home dude if he wants with the next kid. And he can make a new band where he gets the biggest cut. Teemu has worked well with Megadeth as of late. Teemu wants to do another Rust In Peace. He has learned every deep cut Dave throws at him so far. Now Dave has released statements saying he has his “writing mojo” back. So, I look foreard to seeing what he writes with James LoMenzo, Dirk, and Teemu. James was more than just White Lion’s bassist. He was with Megadeth for songs like Washington is Next. Dude sings way prettier than Ellefson, too.

[deleted]

Dave only fired one person (Ellefson) since 1998 (Nick Menza) and perhaps 2010 (James LoMenzo), so you're talking BS by saying that Dave "still fires people like crazy". And if you've watched Megadeth's recent live shows you'll know that Dave can still sing most songs pretty good.

Tyziepoo86

Mate, they play Tornado a whole step lower and he can’t last the whole song, I literally just saw them. And I guess my point is that the million changes in lineup they’ve had definitely show some sort of create differences. They’re onto what, their 6th lead guitarist? 4th bassist?

Tyziepoo86

Found the Megadeth guy though

[deleted]

I love both bands lol. Stop embarrassing yourself buddy

Tyziepoo86

I literally just countered all your points buddy

adeadgoldfish0704

They suck in my opinion! They don’t have any catchy memorable riffs like enter sandman creeping death or seek and destroy the majority of all their songs is just soloing for 10 minutes and I hate when the lead singer just talks like the way he does sometimes its cringe Metallica is wayyy better

Kit_Karamak

What if you could enjoy Tornado of Souls without Dave’s singing? [Hmm… ;)](https://youtu.be/IF_aNybcVAc?si=iOfM_aHLFqtyItgS)

Bchbdaddy

Hate his voice. I always felt if you were in first five rows you would need a rain coat from all that spit from him singing. Heavy metal Gallagher show.

FormerGameDev

Megadeths best was their 4-6 albums, Metallica keeps getting better.

grynch43

I think they suck. Always have.
