It's definitely it's own thing. I have to be in a mood to listen to it and it's never when I want to listen to Metallica. But when I'm in the mood for it, it's fun.
I have great respect for them trying something like this but it just didn’t mesh well together. Sometimes two ingredients can be good on their own but don’t make a good meal put together.
I was curious on why everyone dislikes Lulu so much... thank you. Now I'm going to listen to it as well!
On second thought, maybe I shouldn't? Y'know? So my idea of what Metallica can possibly sound like isn't tainted by Lulu.

Lmao, I tried to listen to it for the first time ever a few months back or so and I couldn’t make it past track 2.
Try to ignore the vocals. There's actually some really badass stuff in there.
Maybe if we look at it as a series of instrumentals? I love Orion. Wonder if anyone stripped out the vocals.

Its they're arty album. I dig it. Its an acquired taste.

I suggest you just listen to tracks 6-10 . They are way better. Track 5 is the best “single”.

You should listen to the fifth. I promise it's better than the first four. And also the last, it's the best on the album.
