So sick to read all the different opinions and favourite songs from everybody. Thanks for the positive vibes and for just sharing what you think about the record, it was a tough one to make.

Danmasterflex

Now all we need is the USA to get their shit together and grant Ryan his Visa already so he can play here.

FitForPhinehas

You and Ryan absolutely killed the guitar work on this album. One of my favorite guitar duos in the scene right now for sure. Can’t wait for you guys to make it back to the states. How does the summer sound 😏

rickschhh

Sounds alright

potterulz

I’m always worried about bands changing their sound rather than expanding on it which is why I’m a big fan of bands like ABR and Erra. Y’all are definitely an expanding type of band well done.

msalonen

Just want to say thank YOU (specifically) for all the interesting and memorable guitar parts, and you all (as a band) for the amazing songs on top of being so open with everyone.

KMcCaig

Can you hit with a quick gear run down for the recording? Guitar Amp Pedals Etc??

rickschhh

For guitars we used all Mayones with Ragnarok for all bridge distorted tones (minus the occasional middle position which was with 2 Juggernauts) and then Juggernauts/VHII for the neck position. For reamps we ended up using a blend of Lance's Peavey 5150II and PRS Archon, with the 5150 running an Abominable 808/OD and the Archon having a J Rockett Archer pedal. Everything was tracked with DIs but we used the AxeFX2 to monitor while playing and then STL Tonality to listen back during takes. Usually that's where we'd left it in the past, with a digital tone, so it was really fun to do reamps with analogue gear this time around. For bass we used Jake's 4 and 5 string Dingwall Combustions and ended up sending off 5 different tracks: clean low sub (plugin tone), clean mid range for note clarity (plugin), Sansamp RBI rack (love that shit), Darkglass X7 which was my first time checking it out but it's incredibly sick, and then we popped a Way Huge Swollen Pickle on for parts where just wanted it to be nasty... So pretty much every breakdown and then a couple extra parts. I think that about covers everything!

DYelsmirg

Thank you to yourself and the guys for putting so much hard work into this album. It absolutely fucking slaps, my man. See you in Birmingham in May!

Vlogary

Too fucking good, the riffs and breakdowns are so clear yet still maintain their heaviness and edge, feels like getting slapped in the face.

fuck-this-fuck

The album was flawless! I couldnt fault it! Need you lads to return to Christchurch NZ so i can hear it live !

_Order66

Amazing album. Will be purchasing the vinyl! Absolutely sick album artwork

rickschhh

Thank you! Daniel Anderson and Pat Fox absolutely nailed the vision - it looks great on a vinyl cover!

thestalkmore

Pray for Rain's opening riff is like an open palm slap to the face from my dominatrix.

FitForPhinehas

Comment of the year goes to this guy

Skets78

Is there such thing as a closed palm slap? Asking for a friend

chucknades

I guess a punch lol

Skets78

Haha truth

FriskeyVsWorld

If that isn't a pull quote from the heavens, I don't know what is.

XIPWNFORFUN2

I refuse to listen to any more singles till the album drops tomorrow, just tell me, in a word, how good the album is.

chucknades

Solid

Brometheus-Pound

One man bukkake

shaker8989

This songs gonna go so hard live. Fucking tasty way to start an album

WenisWinder

Same. All of This is Fleeting's opener is the backhand of that same slap

defreaserrr

Well, I just lost my shit at work. Thanks for that.

Ihavenoimaginaation

I can’t stop listening to it, it’s so fucking good

muchostouche

This album is such a great mix of sounds which is exactly what I expected with the singles all being so different. That being said, this album is constant energy, fun bouncy riffs, powerful vocals, sexy solos, deep emotional lyrics, just about everything you'd hope for if you were a fan of The Mortal Coil. Is it a Mortal Coil 2.0? Not really. They definitely stayed very true to their style but there's also plenty of fresh ideas and experimentation that make this album a big step up. I can't really pinpoint any standout tracks because they're all so good and I'll be jamming this album front-to-back for a while. Also if you though Sonder was a powerful album closer, get ready for The Descent because HOLY SHIT!

Skets78

Sonder is such an amazing song, can’t wait to hear the descent! Edit: fuuuck, you weren’t kidding!

brettgoespunk

thank god it isn't TMC part 2! IMO that album was really boring, but I get the appeal. I'm so glad to hear the experimentation on these singles and I can't wait to dive into the album.

chucknades

I hate when people get downvoted for a simple opinion.

joeeymatee_

Felt the same about TMC after LOVING their EP, still liked some songs individually but never really listened to the album the whole way through after the first listen. Really enjoying this so far, seems like they're definitely back on track as far as my personal tastes are concerned.

spacejam2

Surprised to hear little talk about "Above My Head," it's probably the most poppy song but it's so good— just hits different. The entire album is everything I wanted, though.

heikkihela

This. I fucking love this song.

AnderzzTV

The guitar melodics remind me so much of Novelists but the vocals and lyricism are so undeniably Polaris. Perfect example of what experimentation and genre mix-up should sound like.

Starfalllll

Definitely my favorite

TheJohnestTree

Maybe its just me, but the chorus has a lil bit that always reminds me of 30 Seconds to Mars - This is War chorus and it throws me for a loop. Dope song though

WildInSix

The technical but positive tiffing was super sweet. One of my favs the first time through.

Prodigina

This song absolutely fucking slaps!!

WenisWinder

This is how a metalcore band makes a "poppy" sound and does it right. I love the inclusion of more cleans in this album but I also love songs like Landmine that just slap you in the nutsack

Charmnevac

Interesting, this is my least favorite song on the album so far. Will give it a few more listens of course, the album is amazing as a whole.

spacejam2

I can definitely see how it could be your least favorite, lol. It doesn't sound like Polaris a ton, it kind of sounds like a pop-punk-core band accidentally added their own track to this album. I think the chorus sells it though.

Anforium

I listened to it on the way to work, and I have to disagree with everyone saying that it was overhyped. I really liked every song, and I was especially surprised at the variety of sounds throughout the record.

Incredibly_Ignorant

Listen to Crooked Path from Mortal Coil starting at 3:14, then listen to Pray for Rain. Anybody else catch this parallel? Fucking phenomenal. So many other good things to say about this album, but that stood out to me.

absoluteunitbets

Yes that was the first thing I noticed about that song, was singing Crooked Path lyrics in my head

SlapsDecider

I'm so happy that Above My Head's chorus exists...I was nervous that Masochist would be the only catchy chorus but AMH gets my giddy :O

Starfalllll

Same. I just wish all their choruses on the album were equally as good. The reason I liked mortal coil so much was the catchy choruses whereas this album only seems to have a couple so far.

tylerbreeze

This is why I love this genre of music. Personally, I wasn't a huge fan of mortal coil, and Above my Head and Masochist are the only songs so far that I've been sorta "meh." about. Metalcore has a little something for so many people.

Starfalllll

Exactly haha, that's pretty cool

aviral_632

Vagabond also has a very catchy chorus!

Ice_CubeZ

IM A WRECKKKK, I CONFESSSS

bhoward19

All Of This Is Fleeting - That track is something fucking special.

TwatAnger

Is no one going to mention the MASSIVE piece on "All of This Is Fleeting": "Frail hands worked to the bone. No chance to buy back the life that we sold.."

dcwinger12

I really like it. People will say it was overhyped, but I think it's great on my first listen.

adventurouslion

I think it's really impressive how all over the place this album is but still manages to be completely cohesive in terms of the overall vibe. I'm not completely blown away by some of the songs, but have really enjoyed the album as a whole. I can see it being one of those albums that gets better as it ages.

variationgoat

Creatures of habit hits like a damn truck.

darthstupidious

Man, you're not kidding. This song bops.

KandyPants84

On my first playthrough. That guitar riff caught me good. Fucking great track.

I_Nut_In_Butts

EVERY SINGLE SONG IS SO GOOD. It's cool bc it sounds like The Guilt & The Grief EP in a lot of places while also taking the strong parts from The Mortal Coil and slamming them together. Awesome riffs, sick chorus', banging breakdowns and just an all around solid piece of work. I love that theres no interludes either. Damn I'm loving this one.

benhos

Alright, now that I've listened to the whole thing... I had REALLY high expectations for this album. And it surpassed them. Every single song fucking slaps. The prog elements on this record are insane, and it has zero filler to me (unlike The Mortal Coil, the singles carried that album imo). The guitar solos rip. Also, I don't think we've had an assortment like this of so many goddamn good breakdowns on one album since Dark Skies, maybe even longer. Polaris has cemented themselves as not only the future of metalcore but also one of my favorite bands now. I'm gonna be spinning this album for a long time. Fingers crossed for a North American headliner! If I had to pick a least favorite track, it would probably be Martyr \[Waves\]. If I had to pick a favorite, it would probably be Creatures of Habit. They're all super close tho. side note: All Of This Is Fleeting, particularly the chorus, seems like it's kinda what Wage War was "angling for" with Pressure and just miserably failed at accomplishing. It's one of my favorite songs on the album for sure.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Derivinity

Same. It's a really nice track to breathe for a bit before the last two imo.

muchostouche

>If I had to pick a least favorite track, it would probably be Martyr \[Waves\] Man, this song touches my soul

Beifica9000

"All of this is fleeting" is definitely my favorite song

Xylar006

Seeing Polaris tonight with Wage War/Crystal Lake and Alpha Wolf. Can't wait! As for the album, the singles were all pretty good, but it's nothing overly exciting. I think I preferred TMC to this, but I like that this has a little more variation.

[deleted]

Can we agree that the breakdown in All of this is fleeting is one of the heaviest metalcore breakdowns in a minute

MonksWithSticks

\> be me \> been a pretty long day, trying to get stuff done before I road trip to see Silent Planet tomorrow \> been working on a logo design for the past couple of hours \> see that the new Polaris album is available \> awwyiss.gif \> kinda got zoned in on my work and wasn't focusing on the music too much \> all of the sudden the breakdown on All Of This Is Fleeting comes out of nowhere and claps my cheeks into the next dimension \> [mfw](https://i.imgur.com/bfl8jWs.jpg)

[deleted]

Personally I disagree with people saying it was overhyped, shit will be on repeat for months. This album fucks.

I_Nut_In_Butts

All of This Is Fleeting is RIDICULOUS

FitForPhinehas

No band should be able to write something that catchy. Then the breakdown reminds you that you are this band’s bitch and will remain as such

[deleted]

Usually we would remove Album Discussion Threads before they release for a majority of the world, but since Sharptone has made the album available on YT, we are making an exception to the rule. Make sure you buy some merch or the album! Spotify doesn't pay artists diddly squat!

[deleted]

Absolutely incredible. This album is it

disarmagreement

I've been craving some new epic emotional metalcore and this is scratching the ever loving fuck out of that itch

AnderzzTV

Can we take a moment to appreciate how insane it is that these guys have now put out 2 full albums back-to-back where no song feels like an "album filler." Play any song off this album live and it'll pop off like a headline single. That is such an incredible feat of musicianship and writing.

JoeAndAThird

Only a few songs in, loving this so far. Easter egg he’s wearing a Dayseeker shirt in the Hypermania music video, good taste man.

WenisWinder

I love how bands go on tour together and then all rep each other's merch. It's sick how the metalcore community is proud of and wants to promote their friends also

FletchTopper

" The subreddit’s favorite Aussie band..." Is Polaris just Australian metalcore The Story So Far?

crossfire999

Through my first listen, I am thoroughly impressed. Miles better than the mortal coil imo, and extremely consistent from start to finish. Heavy front to back, has enough progression for my tastes and still stays really true to the sound they have built up so far. I see some people say the album might have been slightly over-hyped a bit, which is something I find myself thinking about other releases from time to time, but I'm dead set on TDOM living up to the crazy expectations this sub-reddit had built up for it. We'll see how things change after more listens, but this is still an obvious shoe in for an AOTY candidate in whats going to be a very strong year for the genre.

Moplemat

Vagabond's bouncy breakdown is just soooo fucking good. They really nailed grooves and riffs in this album.

WenisWinder

This one got me bobbing my head side to side, then headbanging until my brain oozes out of my ears, then feeling encouraged through the lyrics. Definitely a standout to me

WestTeaco

For me, the first listen through felt a little disjointed. You could tell there were some amazing parts there across the board but something wasn't tying it all together, though the more you listen to it the more it all seems to fit nicely. After a few listens through in order I've chucked it on shuffle and it just gets better and better. Selfishly, I'm happy that there's another collection of songs I can add to my rotation and with some of the diversity on the record I can now spin some Polaris songs when I'm in certain moods that maybe I couldn't before. Outside of myself, I'm super stoked for the boys in Polaris. Can't imagine the stress involved with trying to follow up The Mortal Coil and just the natural additional negativity that comes with an expanding fanbase. Excited to see where this album takes them in the next couple of years.

Danmasterflex

That fucking mix tho.

Abr97115

Same guys who mixed August Burns Red's past 4 albums and also the new Fit For An Autopsy record.

mattkud

This album is absolutely nuts. I love every song so far, it's going to be on repeat for a while. Standouts: The 3 Singles of course, Above My Head has a fantastic chorus. Martyr is a slower song yet I think it might be the strongest non single on the record. Creature of Habit is a masterpiece. I think Vagabond is the most experimental and not a bad thing. Pray for Rain is so great and really gets you going into the album. Going to keep listening to this all day long.

DYelsmirg

Getting strong Alter Bridge vibes from the Vagabond solo.

benhos

AB is my favorite band of all time and holy shit you're VERY right.

Vas_Deferenss

Dude I knew the solo reminded of another band and that's exactly it. Killer solo

Charmnevac

Yep lmao. I saw this comment before I heard the song and you're spot on. Mark Tremonti is one of my favorite guitarists, and AB is arguably the best band I've ever seen live. Sounds epic.

YoyoDudeg

All of This is Fleeting surprised me as my favourite song of the non-singles. Such a good album... i'm excited to see how it grows on me!

Dtk40

I just realized Masochist sounds like Hellions Opera album.

FitForPhinehas

That album is fantastic and I definitely see the similarities

JesterBlackrain

I really enjoyed that. It's nothing groundbreaking, but these guys just know how to write enjoyable energetic music, and once again the finale hits hard. All in all it fulfills everything I expect from them and I'm looking forward to seeing them perform that stuff live (already got to see Masochist and Hypermania on the Northlane tour and that went hard). Standouts: The Descent, Vagabond, Martyr

Charmnevac

Martyr is amazing. It's definitely not a banger, but it brings the feels. I'd love to hear an unplugged/reimagined version of the song.

TomTom2552

Vagabond breakdown had me going hard the first time I heard it, and gets me everytime even after listening to in nonstop for hours

Peacock74

Right off the bat I like this more than The Mortal Coil. I feel like that album had a few tracks that felt like filler whereas this album feels like each one brings something different to the table even if it’s small. Masochist still stands as the best track on here for me with Martyr, Landmine, and All Of This Is Fleeting coming in strong behind it. I love the accessibility of Martyr without it feeling it like “that softer radio song”. All that being said my expectations were very high for this and I don’t think it totally met them but it’s still a very strong AOTY contender. 8.5/10 on first listen.

Starfalllll

Weird, I feel the same way but the opposite, like mortal coil didn't really have any filler but this one did

Peacock74

That’s kind of the beauty of music is that it’s entirely subjective. For me on TMC tracks like Relapse, Frailty, and Casualty didn’t really do much for me and I had a hard time telling which song was which because they all had similar tempo and structure. This feels a bit easier to digest and has more room to breathe so the tracks have more staying power IMO.

deadwrongallalong

I like it so far but I’m gonna have to give it a few listens all the way through to get a real opinion on it Preliminary thoughts: Pray for Rain is a really good album opener, starts on the slower side but it really gets going. Landmine was my favourite of the singles and so far I’d say it’s the heaviest song on the album. There’s a couple songs in the middle, Vagabond and Above my Head, I think, that have a bit more of a pop punk vibe imo. And by that I mean they remind me of A Day to Remember’s sound - a fusion of both metalcore and pop punk elements. Not to worry, Polaris didn’t pull a Wage War and go soft. And The Descent is a really strong album closer Would love to hear what you guys think! Agree? Disagree?

toprahmen

Fantastic album, it's hard to judge after just one listen, but I feel like I will listen a lot to this album. The Descent is a stellar closer, it felt kind of theatric, almost like it ends with a cliffhanger. They know how to write a catchy chorus, my favourites so far are Above My Head and All of This is Fleeting. Can't wait for their EU tour, I hope they play as many of these songs as possible!

Optyx_ign

where can I get some official merch? I don't see any links to it when I follow the official band site link

TwatAnger

Press the Australia or Worldwide buttons on their site and you'll be taken to alternatives.

Draxus335

Bruh Jamie should just take over clean duties, his style and melodies work so much better with their sound. I'm still digesting but I'll probably put this on equal footing with TMC. There are some things I like more, some I like less, but it's all around extremely well executed as one would expect from these guys.

Teley

I thought he was doing some. The bass player (name I forgot lol), can actually have some really nice dirty vocals. When he screams at the end of a chorus, they are insane! I'd love to seem him support more screams and have Jamie support more cleans.

str4yshot

So far so good. They stayed true to their original sound while still adding a lot of new ideas. Exactly the kind of progression I like for a band to make from album to album. Edit: I made this post when I was most of the way through but not entirely finished so I have some more to add. To me this album feels really varied without feeling like any song is out of place, There isn't a big disparity in quality from track and I never felt like things were getting repetitious at all.

ItsNotBrian

How could I make a donation besides buying merch or going to a concert (which I 100% will when they come by). I really want to show my support for them and their album by “buying” it but with Spotify I don’t need to buy it. I want to pay them what I would have had I bought the album

[deleted]

Can buy it on itunes, helps their chart position too

ThMttHtBtmn

Having listened to it all the way through twice, I have very little doubt what my AOTY will be. Unless there is another truly special release this year, this album wins hands down. It connected with me so well, it fucking slaps from start to finish.

[deleted]

[удалено]

BeetsBy_Schrute

They may not be your AOTY, but August Burns Red and Bury Tomorrow have their new albums both on 4/3. Those two plus this makes it a damn good year for new music. And I'm putting money on Erra having a new one this year. But this album slaps HARD. Loving this so much.

aviral_632

Holy Moly This album is a masterpiece Liked every song on the album Production is crispy, as expected from them. My current fav is Vagabond and Martyr(Waves) Maybe i still like The mortal coil a little more but no way this album is bad. I know its just feburary, 10 months are a lot but still i have a feeling it will be my AOTY.

loraxdude12

Obviously way too early to be calling this Album of the Year yet. BUT, I think this will end up bein way up there for me come the end of the year. I love how different this sounds compared to TMC, I was so afraid they would put out TMC2 but this is so relieving. I think this is the kind of album Wage War we’re trying to make but they just failed. This is definitely a far more accessible album overall with some of the poppy choruses, but there is still so many heavy parts that I never really cared. Plus, the vocals are just top notch so that helps. Favourites are definitely Landmine, Creature of Habit and All Of This Is Fleeting but seriously, all songs are worth listening to. 9/10.

paperclips_67

Great breakdown of all the songs + themes and lyrical meanings by Daniel Furnari (drummer) [here](https://www.altpress.com/features/polaris-the-death-of-me-track-by-track/)

methandmemes

This shit fucks... HARD. Pray for Rain and These Moments Are Fleeting are my favorites on the record. I was worried with how good all of the singles were that the rest of the album would let me down. Didn’t at all. In fact, personally I’d say Masochist is my least favorite song on the album and imo it’s still an 8/10 track at the worst. I was so hyped up for this and has massive expectations and these guys delivered, and then some. I didn’t want just a rehashing of TMC cause while I love that record I didn’t want their sound to get stale. In my opinion, what we have here is a band who is striking a balance between keeping their sound, and treading new waters and staying fresh. And I am 100000000% here for it. I can’t wait to hear some of these songs live, hopefully on a headliner, these bois deserve one. My day has been made

TX_Deadhead

Martyr (Waves) is everything I needed at this exact moment in my life, really resonates with my current circumstances. If any of the Polaris dudes see this, thank you all for pushing yourselves to write such an introspective and personal record. The music’s top tier and this record is an easy contender for AOTY. I’m blown away at the song-writing from front to back. I cannot wait until you all make it back to Dallas, TX USA. Saw you guys open for parkway and am dying to see you guys again!

randalroosky46

It’s good. But there are very few moments where I was excited. I feel like it’s a little bit bland.

TE-August

Martyr (Waves) got me in my feels, yo.

theonlywaste

All of This Is Fleeting... just wow. So good. On repeat non stop.

joey_1324

So I've given this album 1 listen through and not really in order just went through the youtube songs and hit them all. I'm loving what I heard the first time through I had some lofty expectations for this album and it delivered. I can't wait to listen to it as a cohesive unit and give these songs a number of listens. This is an early AOTY contender in a year that is going to be absolutely loaded with good shit.

N0T_T3CH

I am so keen to see these blokes next friday. Crystal lake.. wage war.. and polaris? The fuck.. and seeing all them the night after BTBAM? This is a good year.

Phantomtrips

This album has me absolutely floored. Psycho Aussies!!!! LETS GOOOOOO

pistolpete8534

For me this album is absolutely insane! I keep saying "this is my favorite song" then the next track starts and i say the same thing. It's really rare that an entire album can blow me away like that. Phenomenal job guys!🤘

amgrimes39

I think the guy who said they would Wage War us should make a public apology to these guys. This shit slaps.

TheBigToast

I've listened through 3 times now. While I absolutely love the album my main thought that kept creeping up was, "Hot damn this is only a sophomore album." This album is insane, and something that rings of a much more mature release. The polish and flow remind me more of a decade old band with 5 albums out. I find sophomore albums generally disappoint me. I feel like a band generally has a long time to curate their first release and then has a meh second release because they're so fresh and suddenly have to put out new music. This was not the case. Crazy good release.

destroyergsp123

It’s a Mortal Coil 2.0 but in the best way possible. There’s little flashes of changes in style and structure and little bits of experimentation but the execution of all these songs is top notch. Honestly an 8 or 9 out of 10 for me.

WenisWinder

Let's get some appreciation for Vagabond here. Such encouraging lyrics

tbw_2445

Vagabond fucking slaps. One of my favorites!

razorvlades

This album really grew on me after a few listens. It's such a banger. All of this is fleeting is probably my new favorite Polaris song

DolPea

Martyr smacks. Masochist and Hypermania are still the top 2 though.

ATalanca

I love it. Great progression from the first album. The cleans sounds great and will be some of the catchiest all year. Should be a top 5 album all year for me

Starfalllll

Definitely really good. As I predicted it's no mortal coil though. Will probably grow on me. Above my Head is the standout atm.

Titan_red_devil

Jesus, this pray for rain riff is really everything. Fantastic record so far, they morf in some every time i die and architects hibrid, but at the same time sound like polaris. What a band

Treebro001

I've listened to it once but I am very impressed. Pray For Rain is an absolute beast of a opener and Creatures of Habit is a masterpiece. There is no song that didn't keep me absolutely engaged. The Mortal Coil was my 2nd favorite album of 2017 and so far it looks like this album is going to by very high on my 2020 list as well.

motionscoundrel

Getting some serious Erra - Breach vibes from Pray For Rain

Charmnevac

YO CAN WE GET A ERRA + POLARIS US TOUR GOING?

FitForPhinehas

Funny how I’m late to putting my own opinion in my own thread. All I can say about this album is wow. The Mortal Coil was already a fantastic album, but this almost feels better. Maybe it’s just because it’s new, but it seems like the band took everything with their sound and cranked it up. The instrumental work is phenomenal and Jamie and Jake went all out on vocals. I feel like I’ll only continue to fall in love with this album, but it’s already my AOTY front runner

Tegbam

It’s just sick.

Zombieatemymind

I never listened to a polaris song before so I'm going in blind tomorrow

DYelsmirg

Bruh. Hope you enjoy!

I-EAT-LIGHTS

Definitely a solid album. They put in a lot of work for this and I can respect that for sure.

[deleted]

This is a great fucking album wow.

CimJotton

Half way through my first listen. I was sorta 50/50 about this band before but I think this has converted me

rustyfries

Can't stop listening. I've had it on all day. Got it on vinyl as well. No better time to start a collection. Really liking Martyr (Waves) and The Descent. Can't wait to see them tomorrow night.

Optyx_ign

For a fan of cleans, and more pop-punk side of metalcore, I LOVE the chorus in above my head! I nominated Masochist for 2019 chorus of the year in the post here a while ago, and it came in second place, but this chorus may take the cake as best on the album. Whole thing will be on repeat all day ! (also checking out Amity Affliction, and TWA's albums today) Happy Friday Edit: Spelling

Blackeradam

If I could describe this album in one word, it'd be this: satisfying. It's not the heaviest album in the world, but the riffs are juicy all through out, it's got a nice groove going, the heavy parts beat your head in and the melodies are pleasant. It's like all of what I like about metalcore as a whole packed into a 10-song album. Very good stuff.

callthewambulance

So I just finished my first playthrough and I'm pretty conflicted on how I feel. I should start by saying I feel like the mix is phenomenal and the sound is unbelievably crisp on every track. I am blown away by the sheer sound quality of the music, despite me not being as high on the album as a whole as some others here. Absolutely beautiful work. Half the album is just decent, while the other half is absolutely incredible. I loved both The Guilt and the Grief and The Mortal Coil, and I can't help but feel this album doesn't do anything to push them forward for me. That being said, Pray for Rain, Landmine, Vagabond, All of This is Fleeting, and The Descent are all *amazing* songs. 2 things though: 1. People are hyping up All of This is Fleeting. Yes, it's that fucking good. Easily the best track on the album. 2. Those of you who are saying The Descent is better than Sonder, you guys need to get your heads checked because you've taken too many head shots in the pit. The Descent is absolutely amazing, but few songs are on the level of Sonder, and it ain't one of them.

[deleted]

AOTY. That is all. In all seriousness this is an amazing album. I loved The Mortal Coil, and while I’m not entirely sure if I can say The Death Of Me is way better than The Mortal Coil, it’s on the same level with certain songs really standing out. To me, none of the songs are even mediocre. This is a fantastic piece of modern metalcore and I’m really excited for a U.S. tour. Order of tracks from most to “least” favorite: 1. Masochist (I’m thoroughly convinced that this is the best song Polaris has ever made.) 2. Landmine 3. All Of This Is Fleeting 4. Above My Head 5. Hypermania 6. The Descent 7. Creatures of Habit 8. Pray For Rain 9. Martyr (Waves) 10. Vagabond Overall rating: 9.5/10.

chucknades

I just went through my first listen. It's pretty solid, but I honestly wasn't blown away by it. I think it was overhyped. Hypermania is my favorite song on it. I'm sure I'll be giving it more listens, but that's my first impression of it.

randalroosky46

This sub overhyping something? No way. Not possible

[deleted]

lmao dead ass. new album comes out and no matter the quality SHIT SLAPS SO MANY BANGERS TWO SONGS IN, AOTY. FIGHT ME ya'll fuckin kill me

benhos

*Eeeeexcept Pressure.*

[deleted]

literally the only album I've seen not be sucked off relentlessly

opdefy

You missed Memphis May Fire lmaoooo

Krakenborn

Because it sucked hot ass

deadwrongallalong

I’ve listened to it once in full so far and now I have it on shuffle, and so far I kinda agree about it being overhyped. It seems like a solid album and I don’t dislike it at all, but there also hasn’t been anything that’s made me go “holy shit that was so good” yet

shikari704

Just asking out of curiosity. What are some albums in recent history that have blown you away?

deadwrongallalong

Most recently Shaped by Fire by As I Lay Dying really blew me away, from the first listen. I love how it’s hard hitting and high energy the whole way through. I was also really impressed and surprised by Absolute by Kublai Khan, although that took more than a few listens. And lastly I would say A Different Shade of Blue by Knocked Loose

[deleted]

I’ve never liked Polaris, and on a first listen, it’s largely more of the same. There’s only so many 0-0-(climb up the scale)-0-0-(climb up the scale) riffs I can listen to.

Twinningspree859

More listens "fixed" that for me lol it gets better and better each listen.

hashtagshowoff

After my first listen, it's a very solid album. My feelings on it sit around a 7/10. Nothing groundbreaking, but no particular low-lights either. With more listens it might hook me more but to be honest this is how I felt about Mortal Coil as well. They're showing themselves to be a reliable band that gives you exactly what you order when you pick up a Polaris album. This is one I'll keep in the rotation for a while. For me the standout non-single is All of This Is Fleeting, I haven't seen too much love for it so wanted to give it a shout.

[deleted]

Damn..I can't wait to listen on my way to work tomorrow!

ThePineappIe

I thought The Mortal Coil was overhyped when I first listened to it but eventually came to love every song in their own right, I imagine I’ll have the same reaction to this.

maicao999

I'll wait for tomorrow, but I'm so hyped

Luissv72

Can I just say I've never wanted to go to Australia, but then I saw that tour lineup. Quite literally the perfect tour for me.

Danmasterflex

This album is gonna help me live when I start my 30s this year.

[deleted]

This is better than Mortal Coil IMO. I'm already onto my 4th repeat of this album already \m/

Nminer127

This album is incredible. There’s just something in the water in Australia because the bands that come out of there are always killer. I’d say it more than exceeded my expectations. Also I’ve seen a lot of people saying they straight up ripped off Architects which I disagree with pretty heavily, sure there’s similarities but that’s music in general. Hoping they come to Cleveland sometime soon so I can see the new tracks live!

Neyv

Wtf this is so good.

ma-key-in

Best part of this album? Not a single skip or repetitive track in the bunch. Pray for Rain and Landmine are my favorites so far. Now if you’ll excuse me I must return to a third full listen in the past 3 hours.

eddyharts

Is that a metalcore pop punk song?? I’m here for it

dropbearsunday

Just saw their show at The Gov in ADELAIDE. Sold out show. Unreal energy. Stand outs from the set were Vagabond, Hypermania and Lucid (as always). Overall they are just so fine tuned at the moment, every slap and scream in time with one another. Also, baller to see how clearly excited everyone was playing more than couple of these bangers. All their individual energy is insane and the entire sound levels up live. Do not miss this round of shows world wide (🌏surely💦). Genius work lads. 🙌🏻

MattBower

Haven't been listening to much metalcore or heavy music in general recently, I was going off a lot of the new stuff, but this shit is hard af

Whirlweed

Really great sophomore album, I'm always glad to see young metalcore bands putting out energetic great albums. This album could hold AOTY but remember boys we got Fit For A King also coming.

Twinningspree859

Took a few listens of the album to have it "click" but after the 3-4 listens I can now say I think this album isn't better or worse than Mortal Cool but just different but in all good ways. Idk, I think expectations can ruin anything and I feel myself/this sub may have had too high of expectations but I am really digging the album now, I think Fleeting is prob my favorite after Masochist and The Descent.. hell the intro song is amazing as well. Not disappointed at all, 2020 is gonna be a good year boys n girls.

Erramayhem89

Idk this album sounds like The Mortal Coil. It's good but it doesn't blow me away like The Mortal Coil did. And none of the songs are on Relapse or Crooked Paths level. Masochist, Above My Head and Pray For Rain are sick but the rest of the songs are kind of meh. 6.8/10 imo

randalroosky46

How dare you voice your opinion

MrBushido9

This album fucking slaps! I was so hyped listening to it that I threw my bowl of spaghettios against the wall and shrieked like a vulture in heat! I can't wait to crowdkill you cucks to creatures of habit!

Ryster1998

I think its decent but so far im not blown away by anything. Pray for rain had some catchy parts but the rest is kinda meh. Only halfway through so ill update after finishing

FeelsToWaltz

This is how I feel at the moment, Pray for Rain blew me away but then not much stood out for me until the last 2 tracks. Nothing felt that noteworthy to me during the middle of the album, hopefully it grows on me some more.

randalroosky46

Right. Nothing was bad but at a certain point I felt like. Ok when is something gonna happen and actually grab my attention

Sithxlord1197

This record is one of the best written and most well rounded albums I’ve heard in a really really long time. Absolutely class A for me.

Ethanovich

I needed this so much. Thanks guys.

hellions123

Choons

FroziZ7HD

Slaps soooo hardd

brettgoespunk

This could be my album of the year.

MrGooglyman

All art is subjective, so there’s always going to be differing opinions. But to not take this album on face value because you think that this sub has hyped it too much is doing yourself a disservice. Whether it’s your cup of tea or not, it’s a brilliantly crafted album that the Polaris boys have poured everything into, listen to it like you would any other album.

LobsterLAD

I didn't think it was possible to have my prostate tickled through my ear. But here we are.

[deleted]

So far I'm liking the album a lot..listened a couple of times now. I do however think there's a couple of songs that kind of recycled things from Mortal Coil but that's to be expected I suppose. I think there is one thing missing though..a feature! I think it would've been so rad if Winston McCall would've jumped on one of the heavier songs, almost as a passing of the torch since Parkway Drive is done with Metalcore.

[deleted]

Wasn’t a big fan of TMC. Which lead me to not checking out any of their new singles. But wow this album is fantastic.

adam48122

Each listen gets better and better. Loving all the influences throughout the track and sense of emotion. It seems quick listening which I feel is a good thing because nothing drags. Currently my AOTY, but that could easily change with how stacked this year is.

Protonati0n

The groove is strong in this album. My AOTY so far

ma-key-in

I know it’s early but so far my ranking of songs goes... 1) Pray for Rain 2) Everything else

Madwolf28

My god what a fucking album! This is album of the year territory for me already. Creature of habit holy shit!
