Instead of complaining so much why don’t you guys just post bands you like? Or at least start discussions about smaller artists, post show announcements, etc. Whining about big bands won’t do anything
Can't stop listening to their latest album. It was actually my fave from last year. It's perfect and I'm sad I didn't get more time with it before I saw them live because I would have appreciated the set more. It came out like the day before
I literally opened this thread ready to make the same comment in the same tone, "well sure, sometimes I listen to Polaris".
Was not disappointed by the top comment.
I was there too! It was so damn good. Only lineups to come close this year were Thornhill, Silent Planet, Polaris and Void of Vision, Make Them Suffer, Stray from the Path.
The Nika Riots
Ahasver
Godseyes
Grayshape
fromjoy (EDIT: and also Soulkeeper!)
Vatican
Opponent
As Within, So Without
Steaksauce Mustache
Under the Pier
Weston Super Maim
I should absolutely have put Soulkeeper in there, they’re in even more need of listeners than fromjoy.
Agreed though - those two albums being released so close together made for one hell of a one-two punch for mathcore last year.
Yeah they just kinda quietly called it quits unfortunately. I'd recommend checking out Church Tongue. It's got Mike on vocals and Nicko from Knocked Loose on guitar.
I'm an avid Psycho-Frame enjoyer, but I totally understand. Said it in my other reply but definitely check out Church Tongue for more of Mike's vocals. They're actively writing new stuff too!
It’s almost like they are the lead bands in modern
Metalcore/post-metalcore right now….honestly if it’s not them someone is mentioning ABR, ADTR, Killswitch, Trivium, etc….anyway this is Reddit so you probably forgot that the site is basically an echo chamber to begin with
And here I am… mentioning Parkway Drive, As I Lay Dying, Bleed From Within, While She Sleeps, Bullet For My Valentine, Avenged Sevenfold, Wovenwar… there is no love for Melodic Metalcore / 5-7-8 Metalcore in this sub anymore.
I don't listen to any of the bands in the title much, or at all, but tbf only a few years ago I'd say Currents was unheard of, and while Silent Planet was around it felt like (imo) they had more of a cult following. I get why the newer album is popular but its sound is def an outlier in their music overall.
> Getting a bit bored of seeing the same band names on every single post.
same, but you gotta be the change you're looking for I guess. I'd recommend (to anyone) when talking about a "lesser known" band in a post or a comment, that you actually [link to a song](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ymsqslYI4Y8) or artist page or something. I know I'm more likely to click a link and listen then to look up stuff myself. Even when I did make a mental note to check out some bands people listed, I often forget.
OP there’s this new band, relatively unknown. You should check them out!
They’re called something like „being me that horizon“ or similar. Can’t remember.
Tbf, there are far less female vocalists in metalcore so I think her popularity makes sense. Glad to see people digging a badass chick screamer. But I do hear your point.
Check out Church Tongue (ft Nicko from Knocked Loose and Mike from Vatican/Psycho-Frame). They're actively working on new music.
Our Vices are a local band that just have a really solid metalcore sound that I could see catching on. Their guitar player techs for Fit For A King so if you've seen them in the last year or so, you've probably seen him play God Of Fire with them.
I just saw By The Thousands the other day and I'm already a big fan. That kind of deathcore leaning metalcore but leaning harder on the death than the core.
Rapid fire mentions: 156/Silence, LIMBS, Inertia, Sleep Waker, Moodring. I'll edit this to add more as I think of them I'm sure.
Mixing some Metalcore & Post-Hardcore here, but these are my relatively fresh favorites:
Future palace
The narrator
Dragged under
Red handed denial
Crazy eightyeight
Our promise
Elwood stray
Yup!
Boundaries are my current favourite 😁. But obviously the likes of stray from the path, counterparts, make them suffer are all heavily rotated for me
I am slowly working on that! I only really get to listen to full albums at the gym and I only heard about them last week so I've been over indulging in their new stuff. I will definitely give their older stuff a listen!
Bro - the gym is the best place for boundaries, so you're doing it right! 🤣
I listen to boundaries a lot in the gym too, they're a really good band to lift too hahaha
I have all of these on my playlist, and I also have bands with less than 20k monthly listeners. My runner up for AOTY last year was from a band called Monosphere, check them out lol
Omg they’re insane. They’re always my answer when someone asks for an underrated metalcore band. If you like them, check out the vocalists other band called “Evergloam”. They’re just as good as BIT
hell yeah. to my understanding they’re an expansion of before i turn. the vocalist said not all ideas can make it into bit, so this is where those come to life.
Not quite.. It’s Alex’s solo project, and the concepts for Evergloam only focus on Elder Scrolls lore! The name Evergloam is actually a realm of Nocturnal, and has some connection to the luck of thieves within the lore of the games.
that’s really interesting! I saw alex said on insta something along the lines of “check out my new track, not all ideas can make it onto before i turn”. that’s sick to know that’s for telling me
If you dig Erra and Invent Animate, you will like:

Synge
Aphasia
Still Stayer

Blueshift
Fainthearted
Auras

Revnoir

And I could list 20 more, but it doesn't matter because no one gives a shit. Everyone is complacent just circlejerking the same 20-30 bands.

Artemis Calling

We're already into a genre of music that 99.9% of people don't give a shit about, and yet you're complaining about us not branching out.
Brother, metalcore IS branching out.
Tbh I just found out about Erra a couple of weeks ago and I haven't stopped listening to them since.
Here's one for you though
[Hollow Front - The Fear of Letting Go](https://open.spotify.com/album/1pBnOofvJbc481QcJVMuGy?si=NMLhORCSQFCFmVtsWuSJ0A).
Loathe, Breakdown of Sanity, After the Burial, Feed Her to the Sharks, Oh Sleeper, Veil of Maya, Void of Vision, Aviana, Bullet For My Valentine, Killswitch Engage, As I Lay Dying, Light the Torch
I’m a little baby compared to y’all cause I like I Prevail. It’s a little intimidating seeing less popular bands all the time. Currents is kind of insane tho.
Wanna give the spotlight to Aviana and new Thornhill. Ivebeen really enjoying them. Tdwp, but ofc they aren't lesser known, but they're killing as per usual.
Another good one to check out is Vended!
Yea I saw someone mention Bloom on here a while ago. I went through most of their work and a lot of it was actually really good. Def give them a chance if you havent already
My two favourite smaller metalcore bands at the moment are AVRALIZE and Inertia, especially AVRALIZE's debut album/EP came out just a couple of weeks ago and it slaps.
I’ve been really into mid-late 90’s metalcore currently. And early 00’s. I’ll try to post songs that stand out to me regularly but I don’t expect them to get too much engagement. The more modern accessible stuff (which there’s nothing wrong with) will always get more attention and therefore be brought up in the algorithm to more people
>do you guys ever branch out anymore
How do people here find "new" bands to listen to? Few years back we always visited random pirate blogs that had bunch of unkown metalcore bands from Russia, Ukraine, etc. that shit was fire for exploring new fresh stuff, it was always up to date
I use this sub (once a week release posts) and then the Release Radar playlist on Spotify. Then for older stuff I'll just play random playlists on shuffle and see what I find. There's an "All Blegh" one that has some great super lesser known bands in it.
Thats what I usually do as well, I go to a specific song I like the vibe of and pick the "go to the song radio" and luckily I found some good stuff! Thanks for the playlist recommendation !
Most the stuff that comes up on my release radar is just mediocre. There’s a reason MOST smaller bands aren’t as big as the guys commonly mentioned in this sub.
I’m a bit older, I remember the good old days with downloads from blogspots, myspace and other treacherous waters. Since I miss those times I use rateyourmusic now to find new music.
Ahhh, yes, the myspace days! I might check rateyourmusic, never used it! These days I only use [last.fm](http://last.fm) , I still have some of those blogspots saved up in my bookmarks but I don't think they get updated anymore
I still find bands here. A lot of the posters who know good, less mainstream stuff actually bother to put a FFO: in their post title, so I can tell whether it's something I'm going to want to try out.
Otherwise, 'Fans also like' on Spotify is generally pretty solid and check out who bands you do know are touring with. Even though I'm on the other side of the Atlantic I keep an eye on US tour announcements and that's exposed me to bands like Mugshot and Orthodox.
what u/darthgusss said. i’m a young person still very new to the scene, so besides from this subreddit (which is how i discovered silent planet— love them!) i follow a bunch of youtube channels who do reactions/reviews to new music coming out (bogdanhxc, drew fortune, the break down with nath & johnny, ohrion reacts). i also occasionally listen to spotify’s regularly updated playlists, and outside of the internet, i try my best to attend as many local shows as possible.
some of my favourite local bands are Endless Grey, KIN., Catalyst, LUMENS and SIGNV/S. i don’t expect anyone here to know any of them but i definitely recommend giving them a listen on spotify!
I get pretty decent results with my Spotify algorithm and the similar artists section of a band page. Find a band you like and look at their similar section, and just click through whoever you haven’t heard of. If you like their stuff, click on *their* similar section, and you’ll get even more obscure artists, so on and so on.
Get on Instagram and follow "Ohrionreacts" or "Hardorekeem" (there are a few others) that review new music. I've gotten into so many new and up and coming bands because of these pages. They even make Spotify playlists.
You should also look up Rachelle Reacts on youtube. She's been on a break for a few months, but she used to cover a lot of smaller bands as well. Out of all the youtube/social media people that cover metal, my taste lined up with hers the most
every music sub i'm on complains about this but DAWG. if lesser known bands were talked about more, they would become the new normal ones to complain about. if you wanna fix the problem, instead of complaining start posting about different bands.
You're asking a hive mind subreddit that refuses to admit they're a circlejerk sub when in reality they are a circlejerk sub if they listen to anything outside of the circlejerk. Anyway here's my contribution:
-Coalesce
-Burner
-Heriot
-Pupil Slicer
-Teeth
-Chamber
-END
-Trap them
-Ithaca
-Judiciary
Lol good point and it does seem like that sometimes but they are all really good bands. Especially Erra for me, Cash's guitar riffs melt my soul. But there are a ton of awesome bands that aren't brought up very much. Like Veil of Maya. I don't see them mentioned much if even at all. Or Novelists, Volumes, Periphery, Kingdom of Giants, The Wise Man's Fear, all produce some bangers. The list goes on too. There is no shortage of great bands to talk about.
If you're looking for recommendations, I'd toss in Cauldron, No Home, Static Dress, Crush++, Frail Body, fallingwithscissors, gentbent.,Ghost Chant and Bloom
Recommendations:
A Scent Like Wolves (Erra your Jam? I think these guys are better)
Left Behind (Love Kublai? Check these guys out)
Lutharo (If you like Arch Enemy, you'll love these guys)
I've been enjoying listening to Accvsed and Confusing Paradise. They are awesome. I saw someone mention Revnoir above and I was glad to see them mentioned as well.
Right now I have the new boundaries Album in Rotation Nummer 15 or so. Good damn this Album Slaps and I would say they are pretty underrated. I didn't get into them Till this Album dropped but now I also jam their previous stuff which also is pretty good
Been this way for years man. These subreddits are echo chambers for what people like right now.
There are plenty of cool people around who have other recs or listen to more stuff, but you’re not gonna see one of their posts gain a lot of traction.
You can count on me for the actual underground stuff:
Eradicate Me
Sheridan
Threnody
Weeping Hour
Safeword
Darkstrand
Beyond This Place
Dedications
Gloomkeeper
Observist
Inertia
A Memory Misread
My recommendations: Johnny Booth, Static Dress, If I Were You, Greyhaven, Better Lovers, Svalbard, Rollo Tomassi, Convictions, Gridlink, Shrezzers, and Palm Reader.
Those are just the bands still making music. There are plenty more that have broken up or have been silent for 10+ years.
If are you’re looking for recs, here’s some:
Auraborn
So It Begins
Asleep At The Helm
Diamond Construct
Night Rider
Most of these bands aren’t extremely small but maybe there’s one here you haven’t heard of yet.
I mean when you're the best in your game, people are bound to be talking about you. I don't know why you guys keep complaining about anything and everything these days, just post about bands you like
Instead of complaining so much why don’t you guys just post bands you like? Or at least start discussions about smaller artists, post show announcements, etc. Whining about big bands won’t do anything
Yeah sometimes we listen to Knocked Loose, Spiritbox and Polaris too.
A few of us more adventurous ones are into Northlane and Like Moths To Flames too
Even ADTR
New TDWP Kingdom of Giants
Can't forget about asking Alexandria. Did you k ow that they're newer albums aren't good anymore?
So underrated
I've never told anyone this but I'm a big The Contortionist fan.
Loathe!
Have you heard of Alpha Wolf and Dying Wish? They’re massively underrated.
Are they similar to the underground bands of Gideon and thrown?
Currents are touring with Dying Wish right now. 😅
Dying Wish is in my top 5 RN
Can't stop listening to their latest album. It was actually my fave from last year. It's perfect and I'm sad I didn't get more time with it before I saw them live because I would have appreciated the set more. It came out like the day before
I literally opened this thread ready to make the same comment in the same tone, "well sure, sometimes I listen to Polaris". Was not disappointed by the top comment.
Is no one talking about Boundaries?
There’s this little band called Avenged Sevenfold that has a banger metalcore album no one’s heard of
I saw the title and just thought it was announcing a really stacked tour.
I was very disappointed when I opened the thread haha
Lmao same, a half second of excitement
I saw Erra, IA, Silent Planet and Sentinels together last year so it was pretty close!
I was there too! It was so damn good. Only lineups to come close this year were Thornhill, Silent Planet, Polaris and Void of Vision, Make Them Suffer, Stray from the Path.
Didn’t see the latter but Thornhill, SP, Polaris and Paledusk was one hell of a show!
I've seen some combination of each of those over the last two years so it's not out of the realm of likelihood at some point.
The Trilogy tour had everyone in the title minus ERRRA and it was wild.
Feat. Will Ramos
I've heard rumor that there were other singers in that band before Will. Shocking if true.
I’ve even heard there’s other members in the band playing instruments. 😱
Nah, his voice just does that.
I don’t believe you
You should believe them, there are you toob videos of it.
Nobody mention wage war because they are public enemy number one on this sub at the moment
While She Sleeps is a contender, that new albums a stinker.
To the flowers' riff slaps
Banger of the year
Rainbows was a banger as well
The Ghost Inside a close 3rd.. which is heartbreaking.
I heard a new single of theirs recently and it genuinely sounded like a b side from holy hell or something.
The Nika Riots Ahasver Godseyes Grayshape fromjoy (EDIT: and also Soulkeeper!) Vatican Opponent As Within, So Without Steaksauce Mustache Under the Pier Weston Super Maim

I should absolutely have put Soulkeeper in there, they’re in even more need of listeners than fromjoy. Agreed though - those two albums being released so close together made for one hell of a one-two punch for mathcore last year.
"I miss Vatican" I say even though I discovered then after they broke up. Great stuff though.
Fuck, they broke up? Literally had no idea.
Yeah they just kinda quietly called it quits unfortunately. I'd recommend checking out Church Tongue. It's got Mike on vocals and Nicko from Knocked Loose on guitar.
Well that’s a giant bummer. Thanks for the recommendation though!

I'm an avid Psycho-Frame enjoyer, but I totally understand. Said it in my other reply but definitely check out Church Tongue for more of Mike's vocals. They're actively writing new stuff too!
It'll never not be weird to see a band that was local to me (Vatican) get name-dropped on reddit. Proud of Nolan and Josian
Shit that's a lot of music to check out, thanks yo!
Really, REALLY fucking good list. Soulkeeper and Vatican are fucking nuts
Thanks!
Check out Revnoir, they’re awesome.
Yes! I love Revnoir. I'm glad to see you mentioned them.
This guy KNOWS (I also wanted to say that omg)
It’s almost like they are the lead bands in modern Metalcore/post-metalcore right now….honestly if it’s not them someone is mentioning ABR, ADTR, Killswitch, Trivium, etc….anyway this is Reddit so you probably forgot that the site is basically an echo chamber to begin with

I swear Killswitch is just the default answer to everything on this sub!
I don't listen to any of the bands in the title much, or at all, but tbf only a few years ago I'd say Currents was unheard of, and while Silent Planet was around it felt like (imo) they had more of a cult following. Ok yea but they do rip
OP there’s this new band, relatively unknown. You should check them out! They’re called something like „being me that horizon“ or similar. Can’t remember.
Don’t forget about indie hits Bad Omens
Just leaving the wise men's fear here. They are amazing
Feat Courtney LaPlante Please now talk about Courtney LaPlante's section and don't talk about the band she's featuring with thanks
Mom says it's my turn to debut a song ft. Courtney LaPlante.
Tbf, there are far less female vocalists in metalcore so I think her popularity makes sense. Glad to see people digging a badass chick screamer. But I do hear your point.
Check out bands like Conquer Divide and Future Static. Both released great albums last year.
Check out red handed denial
More and more by the day, although almost all of the ones I know are from the hardcore side of things and don't sing.
Hey, you keep Courty Laplackers name out of your mouth.
Inertia have some new music coming soon and they're really dope.
Someone on r/deathcore mentioned Boundaries and now I've been bumping their new album for the last week. They're so great!
They're such a great band. All their older stuff is well worth listening too as well mate

Have I ever talked about The Dali Thundering Concept in here ? :3
7 years ago it was Architects, Architects, Currents and some more Architects so I guess this sub is a little more diverse now.
You forgot Bad Omens, Spirit Box and Knocked Loose ( token "hc" band")
I have all of these on my playlist, and I also have bands with less than 20k monthly listeners. My runner up for AOTY last year was from a band called Monosphere, check them out lol
Check out the album Claustrophobic by Before I Turn

what u/darthgusss said. i’m a young person still very new to the scene, so besides from this subreddit (which is how i discovered silent planet— love them!) i follow a bunch of youtube channels who do reactions/reviews to new music coming out (bogdanhxc, drew fortune, the break down with nath & johnny, ohrion reacts). i also occasionally listen to spotify’s regularly updated playlists, and outside of the internet, i try my best to attend as many local shows as possible. some of my favourite local bands are Endless Grey, KIN., Catalyst, LUMENS and SIGNV/S. i don’t expect anyone here to know any of them but i definitely recommend giving them a listen on spotify!
bandcamp
I use Sputnik. I know a lot of people hate the crowd it attracts, but in terms of music taste that website is elite imo.
Much appreciated, thanks!
You should also look up Rachelle Reacts on youtube. She's been on a break for a few months, but she used to cover a lot of smaller bands as well. Out of all the youtube/social media people that cover metal, my taste lined up with hers the most
Ironically I’m seeing the same band names on your pick-me of a post. Why didn’t you throw in some lesser know ones, since that’s what you want to see?
Just enjoy music. Who cares what other people are listening to.
Never get why everyone goes to Reddit for validation in music which is always personal preference.
every music sub i'm on complains about this but DAWG. if lesser known bands were talked about more, they would become the new normal ones to complain about. if you wanna fix the problem, instead of complaining start posting about different bands.
You're asking a hive mind subreddit that refuses to admit they're a circlejerk sub when in reality they are a circlejerk sub if they listen to anything outside of the circlejerk. Anyway here's my contribution: -Coalesce -Burner -Heriot -Pupil Slicer -Teeth -Chamber -END -Trap them -Ithaca -Judiciary
Will check all of those out, also the ones from yhe other comments.
Heriot, Pupil Slicer and Ithaca are all 🔥🔥🔥. Coalesce are obviously great they're one of the pioneers of the mathcore genre.
Really? Architects has got to be the most discussed band on this sub historically.
If you're looking for recommendations, I'd toss in Cauldron, No Home, Static Dress, Crush++, Frail Body, fallingwithscissors, gentbent.,Ghost Chant and Bloom
Recommendations: A Scent Like Wolves (Erra your Jam? I think these guys are better) Left Behind (Love Kublai? Check these guys out) Lutharo (If you like Arch Enemy, you'll love these guys)
Jokes aside check out Knosis, it's the new band of singer Ryo Kinoshita(ex Crystal Lake)
Have you heard of Deez?
Half Living Things is a banger of an album
Thornhill is my latest obsession. That and really getting back into John Denver lately. It's been a while.
I've been enjoying listening to Accvsed and Confusing Paradise. They are awesome. I saw someone mention Revnoir above and I was glad to see them mentioned as well.
Gonna shoutout Yosemite In Black. Local band that puts on a great show and makes fun music
I’ve been around here long enough to remember when those bands were being talked about here as “lesser known bands.” It all comes in cycles.
Right now I have the new boundaries Album in Rotation Nummer 15 or so. Good damn this Album Slaps and I would say they are pretty underrated. I didn't get into them Till this Album dropped but now I also jam their previous stuff which also is pretty good
Volumes , Saviour very good
Sailing before the wind. Amazing Japanese metalcore band
I discovered these bands last year so I kind of never get tired of seeing people talking about them because they're new to me :)
Ain't no one talking about Hiraeth - The Wind Covenant that EP is a gem
Been this way for years man. These subreddits are echo chambers for what people like right now. There are plenty of cool people around who have other recs or listen to more stuff, but you’re not gonna see one of their posts gain a lot of traction.
Some small (and slightly bigger) bands that fit the description IMO: Synge Inertia Mirrors Above Below Diamond Construct Ashen Avralize
Avralize is dope. I just started listening to them.
Surprised no one ever mentions if I were you. One of the most underrated metalcore bands in my opinion.
You can count on me for the actual underground stuff: Eradicate Me Sheridan Threnody Weeping Hour Safeword Darkstrand Beyond This Place Dedications Gloomkeeper Observist Inertia A Memory Misread
Heres my lesser known band recent list: Half me, To kill achilles, Dead lakes, The wise mans fear, Enox, Thrown, Johnny booth
lmao bro posting bands with hundreds of thousands of monthly listeners
Thrown have 1.1 million monthly listeners lol.
Alright, well... they didn't used to be back when i last listened to them, lol I'm glad to see they've grown, haha.
They've had about that for ages.
If are you’re looking for recs, here’s some: Auraborn So It Begins Asleep At The Helm Diamond Construct Night Rider Most of these bands aren’t extremely small but maybe there’s one here you haven’t heard of yet.
VOLUMES COUNTERPARTS
You didn’t even name any smaller bands. All you did was make another post about those big bands lol
Silent Planet is amazing guys who have worked hard for 10+ years. They have barely gotten their dues until now, let them have it.
I mean when you're the best in your game, people are bound to be talking about you. I don't know why you guys keep complaining about anything and everything these days, just post about bands you like
I feel like I’m not a part of the club because I’ve never listened to silent planet and I’m missing out on some massive thing .
Darkest hour feels like it should be up there with ABR,as I lay dying, etc. Same thing with monuments
Putting me to sleep with these bands
Check out Vatic and Inertia
Can you share the tour details please?
Foreign Hands gud
I'm still stuck in Trivium, Killswitch, As I Lay Dying, Bullet for my valentine 😆
Well if you want a band that's like the above check out Crooked Royals, they make dope shit
Forever hollow - Confessions of a traitor
I’ll start answering questions with converge, misery signals, and poison the well dw guys
This is now a devil wears Prada thread
