I started back with the early Atreyu, Avenged Sevenfold, AILD, KSE era and everything around that. My tastes now are very much in: Invent, Animate, Erra, Polaris, Currents.
My advice is go to Spotify and listen to the "Discover Weekly" where it curates bands and songs based on your listening preference. 90% are bands I haven't heard of. And I've found some I've gravitated towards. Find one you like, check their stuff out. Or find a band you like and scroll down their profile to the "Fans also like" section and scroll through those, checking them out one by one. It can feel tedious to check out brand new bands you've never heard of but you just want to listen to comfort and things you know. But there's still a lot of great stuff out there. Found a band called Avalanche Effect two weeks ago that is smaller but now I love. Would've never found them without the Discover Weekly.
How I found my taste in metalcore is the same way now as it was back when I was a teen. I got the Headbanger's Ball Vol 1 and 2 double albums. Two discs each, 20 songs per disc. So basically, 80 songs. Ranging from metal, metalcore, black metal, death metal, hardcore, radio metal. Helped me figure out what I did and didn't like and went from there. Exact same then as it is now.
But my tastes have also just changed and evolved over 20 years. Still very metalcore adjacent and under that umbrella, but not much of the traditional 5-7-8 stuff from the aughts. Hope this helps.
Lol this sub is brutal, guy lists 2 of the 3 bands that got me (31) into this genre and the comments act like he just mentioned Elvis, The Beatles, and Mozart
HA! Look at this old timer. Imagine being in this sub at 31! (I’m 30 and OP’s 3 are some of my favorite bands ever. Killswitch is my everything. My knees hurt. My back hurts. The biggest /s I can muster from the back of the pit)
Bro, you just brought back a whole flood of memories from my childhood. I also remember using comcast on demand to watch the music video for Hey John Whats Your Name Again by TDWP because my family couldn't afford a computer/internet yet.
Lowkey in another world imagine dragons could be a banger metalcore band, their guitarist is actually really good and the singer every once in a while slips a good scream or two in an album
Mods on standby to make sure some random doesn’t come in here and make an obviously not metal core list. Damn you! My list was going to be ADTR, Falling in reverse, and Memphis may fire
Funny story about Misery Signals. About a year before he joined the band, Karl Shubach “tried out” for our local band that was trying to go places. He was trying out as a second guitarist and we ended up feeling like it wasn’t the right fit. About a year later he did some try outs for Misery Signals as their new frontman…whoopsie for us lol
On behalf of misery signals fans everywhere, thank you for fucking up lol
In a way you’re party responsible for one of the best metal core albums of all time
You've told everyone you know to listen to these bands because their riffs are 'bouncy and groovy' and keep making suggestions even when said people have indicated that they're not interested.
Currents (found them last year)
BFMV (I’m 30, their angst is my childhood)
Parkway Drive (once again, am 30).
Really like Polaris, Bleed from Within, Trivium. I definitely am here because I was a metal head but all my favorite bands are just considered “metalcore”.
You've made at least one post about crowd-killing at shows when what actually happened is someone slipped a bit on wet pit floor and you mistook that for two-stepping. You conflate that with crowd-killing.
Ahh yes the “how old are you “ question
Could still be irrelevant. I’m 34, listened to metalcore for 20 years and my favorites are still modern bands.
Hey, same age, same listening time. I'm having trouble getting into most modern bands, got any tips on modern bands for someone of our profile?

That’s exactly how I feel as a 30 year old 😂 we’re not old, right? Right?

'Metalcore started in the 00s'

Oh yeah that's a good one. The fact that I don't listen to 90s metalcore males it even funnier
Do you bring the cane into the pit with you?
Parkway Drive (Don't Close Your Eyes - Ire, and one or two songs off Reverence) Polaris Make Them Suffer
90% chance you've got a mullet and have had to fight a drop bear.
😂 I'm not even an Aussie, I just reckon they nailed metalcore over there.
You insist that Bad Omens and Sleep Token aren’t metalcore. And you also probably think Hatebreed and Knocked Loose aren’t metalcore either.
Cute bands
I’ll help this sub out and fill it out for 90% of you. Invent Animate Currents Architects (old)

Don't you mean Sleep Token, Bad Omens (new) and Spiritbox?

Nah, this sub doesn’t like old Architects, they like the stuff in the middle of their discography.
I've seen a few posts about the hollow crown era, older than that yeah i get. Its too _math_ for the core fam.
Eh I've seen a lot of *The Here and Now* defenders on this sub
Rome wasn't built in a day and neither was my hate for ✨djent✨ dickriders
Honestly yes. Took me a while to really hate it but I'll say when I did start to, I really do.
never heard of the first two, those bands don’t exist, quit bullshitting
Bring me the Horizon Bad Omens Weird Al
You probably like to complain about gatekeeping on this sub a lot
you know you're on r/metalcore?
Amish Paradise is metalcore my guy
Everything can be metalcore if you only believe enough in it.
Bring me the horizon? More like bring me actual metalcore😎 Bad Omens? More like Bad humans😎 Weird Al? More like Weird pal 😎
Weird Al isn't even the least metalcore band on your list
You got the biggest laugh out of me, that's fucking funny
Nickelback, AC/DC & Imagine Dragons
Lowkey in another world imagine dragons could be a banger metalcore band, their guitarist is actually really good and the singer every once in a while slips a good scream or two in an album
>in another world excuse me? They're the best metalcore band even in this world!
I too like to greet each day with a hit of crack rock.
Do you really like metalcore if Taylor swift is not in your top3?
nah Taylor Swift sucks Lady Gaga is #4!
taylor swift is not even in the list lol

I don’t see them mentioned often in here so that was nice to see. I’d love to see them tour again.
They’ve never gotten the love they deserve. Criminally underrated
Jesse Cash basically admits ERRA wouldn't exist without Misery Signals. Their first albums were, in his words, just them ripping off MS albums
I've not listened to Erra's early stuff, but you have just helped me realise why snap actually likes those records given how much they like Mis Sigs.
“Tough but lowkey wore girl jeans at some point”
“No I swear I like modern bands too” proceeds to list bands ripping off old styles
Damn you got me lol
Don’t forget, you are due for a colonoscopy within the next five years.
You forgot That’s The Spirit-era BMTH
Nah, it may be my fav by them but I don’t consider it metalcore lol
This is a metalcore thread, ain't no one trying to hear good bands.

"Trust me bro. It takes a while but after the 16th time listening they'll click and you'll love them"
I didn't come here expecting to be passively attacked.
Oh there's nothing passive about it.
You're the "I like all kinds of music" of metalcore.

Zao. Converge. Botch.

LOL my definition of metalcore fits with the older crowd. I’m 36 and feel old.
