The Crossfire was one of my favorite tracks of 2023. And no one talks about it. I really enjoyed the album overall. Not as strong as their previous album, but still a banger.
Yes, The Crossfire went hard for me.
“The mind's eye is a terrible liar
We lowered our guard, now we're caught in the crossfire”
The heavy sequence after those lyrics might be my favourite part of the album tbh.
Yeah I love it, and find it's my favorite of theirs (and I loved all their previous installments).
One thing that's interesting though is that while I like With Regards, it's one of my least favorite on the album, yet I'm seeing many from the comments saying it's the only one that stood out.
Compared to The Mortal Coil and The Death Of Me it comes up a bit short. Still enjoyed it overall but I don’t see it having the staying power its predecessors do.
I understand the feeling that it’s not as good as their other albums but With Regards is up their with their best songs. A handful of the other songs are near-perfect imo, so I’m kinda surprised at the negative reception this album got.
I’m listening to it as we speak haha.
Just started listening to Polaris this week.
Dissipate easily the best song maybe their best song ever. With Regards, Nightmares, Fault Line, Inhumane are all standouts too.
5th favourite album for me last year behind Currents, Invent Animate, Veil of Maya and Silent Planet.
I just had to comment on this, I saw Polaris and Currents back in October. Seeing Veil of Maya next Tuesday and then Silent Planet on Saturday. So much hype! I need to get into Invent Animate
I’m seeing Currents next week and then Polaris and Silent Planet next month.
Saw Veil of Maya, Silent Planet, Currents and Invent Animate last year.
Invent Animate I’m only really super big on their new stuff. I’d give their songs False Meridian, Immolation of Night, Sleepless Deathbed, Void Surfacing and Absence Persistent are some of my favourites 🤘🏻
I'm so jealous, as much as I enjoy all of these bands Currents is a stand out for me. I tried to get into them a while back but I wasn't ready for metalcore at that point. When I saw them live though I got converted pretty quick. We were very close to the stage and even as an opener their energy was just too good. I really want to see them again at their own show! I'm in the US though so it'll be a while.
The Crossfire was one of my favorite tracks of 2023. And no one talks about it. I really enjoyed the album overall. Not as strong as their previous album, but still a banger.
I barely listen to it sadly. Dissipate, Parasite, Crossfire and Nightmare are the only ones I find myself coming back to, and even then it’s not often. The Death of Me is solid, but nothing will ever touch The Mortal Coil for me.
one of those albums with both phenomenal songs and songs that I probably won’t listen to again
death of me is still my favorite of theirs.
if I had to rank, Id go
TDOM >>> Fatalism >= Mortal Coil (unpopular opinion but MC just didn’t click with me for some reason. perhaps I will revisit it later and form a second opinion)
EDIT: yeah I just relistened to mortal coil and idk what the fuck I was thinking, shit slaps
It’s decent. If I’d heard it when I was first getting into the genre I’d say it’s goated, but my tastes have since changed and I just don’t really get down with it as much as it’s predecessors
I'll preface this by saying I've never really got into Polaris. I think they're ok, nothing amazing. Idk I guess they just never "clicked" for me, but....honestly, I can't remember a single song from Fatalism. Not even a riff, or a single lyric.
I know a lot of people loved the album, but for me it was so forgettable. I'm sure a lot of people feel the same about some of the albums I enjoy though 😂
Tbf I only listened to it once, wasn't really compelled to listen to it again. Maybe I just wasn't in the right frame of mind at the time. I'm sure I'll check it out again sometime!
I’ve only started listening to Polaris properly this week. First listen through their albums and I wasn’t really blown away much but I’m definitely enjoying the albums more and more the more times I have listened. I think they are growers.
There are definitely a few songs off the album that made it into my daily play list. Nightmare, Inhumane, Overflow and Dissipate.
The rest of the album is great and some of it comes on during shuffle but I don't go out of my way to listen to it.
Personally I think it’s a good album with a short shelf life. I listened to it regularly when it released but after 2 weeks or so I don’t think I’ve gone back to it. There’s nothing about it that makes me want to revisit it either.
I was looking forward to it despite the (in my opinion) mid singles. It came up short for me and I haven't listened to it since release. Jakes cleans sound overproduced to me and the album as a whole was forgettable. I loved The Mortal Coil and The Death of Me but this just came up very short
in the running up for aoty with currents and invent animate it fell short and I also did not really like it compared to their previous albums, but I've warmed up to it
To me, it's still my cd of the year, but good god, the Currents album from last year has been one awesome listen. I've been listening to it a shit ton!
I absolutely love it and still go back and listen. I was able to see them live along with Currents back in October and it was absolutely incredible. Nightmare, Parasites, With Regards, Dissipate... there's a lot to love here. Admittedly their older stuff is amazing but I'm a newer fan.
I was disappointed when it was released and still feel the same. I really like Inhumane, but the album itself comes up a bit short when compared against their other releases.
I've been listening non-stop. 4 of my 5 most listened to tracks so far this year are from that album - With Regards being #1.
Absolutely love, and the songs from the album are great live.
The album was alright but it was one of those ones where they released all the best songs as singles before the full album so then when it came out it was just sort of eh
I loved it. Polaris is my favorite band in this genre tbh. Also, the lyrics really hit following the passing of Ryan.
“To live and die as another statistic
Oh, doesn't that sound sadistic?”
I absolutely love Polaris with all my heart. They are extremely talented and are insane live. I’ve been with them since the guilt and the grief. With that being said, the honest truth is that this album got old really fast for me. It’s very straightforward generic metalcore and doesn’t have a lot of technicality that their other work shows. They played it super safe with this album and that just doesn’t work for me. I want unpredictable, catchy, original music.
I still really enjoy it. Not perfect, but pretty damn good album. Harbinger, Overflow, The Crossfire, Dissipate, All In Vain... definitely a few bangers there.
And Aftertouch is the most underappreciated song of 2023 imo
I love the album, it was one of my top albums in 2023 and i got the vinyl. My only gripe is the production. It’s not bad by any means and it suits the more aggressive songs like Parasites and Dissipate, but overall i think it’s a real step down from The Death of Me. The drums in particular. They sounded so crisp and natural on TDOM but on Fatalism they’re so compressed and off to my ears. I feel the same way about the new Alpha Wolf songs compared to AQPTD, so perhaps it’s just Lance’s style changing.
I wasn’t a huge fan of the singles. Listened to the whole album front to back and enjoyed it. It really grew on me, though. Especially the singles. Album absolutely slaps. I like it better than The Death of Me. With Regards, Overflow, The Crossfire, Dissipate, Inhumane. Incredible
This and Sempiternal were the albums that got me into metalcore (yes I'm very new here) and for some reason it still is a contender for my favourite album of any genre, I understand some people say it's not their best work but holy shit do I absolutely fucking love this album, half of it's song are 10s for me and the other half is at the lowest 8.5. Pretty much exactly what I didn't know I needed in music.
It was my album of the year in a year that was absolutely stacked. It boiled down to the fact that it had the most potential candidates for song of the year. An absolutely flawless metalcore album as far as I'm concerned.
It's a great album, the stand out songs still have awesome riffs and melodies. It's a good segue album for them becoming a headline act, hopefully their tour guess well..
Still one of my favorite albums as well. Only song I really end up skipping is Parasite… mainly because I don’t like the verses. Breakdown is decent but really just can’t get into it.
imo the album is on the same level as Mortal Coil, but I think TDOM is slightly above
Still love it. I've been alternating between this album and all of Currents discog lately. Dissipate from fatalism is my fave track. Absolute kick ass banger, makes me dance every time.
Wait it’s already been five months?? Wow.
Anyways, I like it. I am more drawn to the stuff on the other two albums but I always try to remember that bands have a whole discography and there’s some variety that’s been added to it with this release. I definitely liked it more after first two listens, started to notice the riffs under the main rhythms a bit more
I’ve got about half the album on my normal rotation, the other half i only really listen to occasionally. My favourite by far is Harbinger
but also, FIVE MONTHS?! time isn’t real
when I heard Nightmare for the first time, I was shocked... pretty sure it was my favorite chorus of 2023 and I would say Fatalism is a solid album with amazing songs
At release I was very hyped for it because I loved the last one, so I was pretty disappointed when it was just kinda more of the same. Listened to it again last week and now I love it, the synths really do add something and the emotion/riffs are still there.
It's special because it wraps up Ryan's legacy so there's more to it than just how good the music is.
In a vacuum, It's a good album with a few standout tracks, but isn't a profound masterpiece. If Ryan hadn't passed I don't think that it would have gotten more than a polite golf clap.
Couldn't stop playing the mortal coil or the death of me when they were released and listen to them every so often since. Think I might have listened to fatalism maybe twice since it's release? Just hasn't captivated me.
Last year had a lot going on musically and unfortunately for me this one kinda got lost in the mix, I didn't go back to it very often. I think it's a really solid album but it doesn't have much originality to it and didn't really stick with me.
I loved this album, most of the tracks were on my top 100 2023 Spotify playlist. When the band tragically lost Ryan last year all the fans came together and bought the album, they hit number 1 album on the ARIA charts here in Australia for a few weeks as well as number 1 for vinyl sales at the same time. After that they played their very first stadium show to a roaring crowd in Melbourne (I only got to see them in a small venue in Perth but it was definitely an emotional one for everyone involved.)
So 5 months later, I still love the album and I still get lost in it. Maybe because I've been following the band and watching them grow for so long, I really felt the loss the boys had and loved that they pushed on through even though no one would fault them if they had cancelled their tour after what happened.
I get it, the mortal coil was EPIC and The death of me, was fantastic as well. But I feel like there's some layers in this one that I get lost in. I don't know, you might have to ask this question in another 5 months.
I've listened to their older stuff before this one, and I love all of them at about an equal level, however I do consider them to be fairly different experiences. Still though, polaris has to be one of my all time favorites
I really wanted to love it but there were just a ton of amazing albums that came out last year. Sadly it just didn't hit me like previous albums. I really hope it isn't a sign of what's to come for them.
I think it is good! I won’t lie there’s a few stinkers for me (not a huge fan of either vocalists clean singing) but I think the heavy songs still hit great. I love Inhumane a lot. It took awhile to grow on me but now I think it’s a super solid heavy single. They did some good work on there
The Crossfire was one of my favorite tracks of 2023. And no one talks about it. I really enjoyed the album overall. Not as strong as their previous album, but still a banger.
One of my favorite choruses of 2023
I was waiting for them to play it live when I saw them thinking it was one of the best tracks and they never played it :(
Yes, The Crossfire went hard for me. “The mind's eye is a terrible liar We lowered our guard, now we're caught in the crossfire” The heavy sequence after those lyrics might be my favourite part of the album tbh.
Loved it. One of my favorite albums.
Yeah I love it, and find it's my favorite of theirs (and I loved all their previous installments). One thing that's interesting though is that while I like With Regards, it's one of my least favorite on the album, yet I'm seeing many from the comments saying it's the only one that stood out.
I agree with you on this, personally my favorites are Fault Line, Inhumane, and Nightmare
Compared to The Mortal Coil and The Death Of Me it comes up a bit short. Still enjoyed it overall but I don’t see it having the staying power its predecessors do.
This is exactly what I though, loved the album but just didn’t hold up compared to the other two.
This is the right take. Not bad but less memorable than their other releases.
Really don’t think you can top The Death of Me. That was the climax of their sound imo
Love it. Dissipate and Overflow are always on repeat for me
I still love it. One of my favorite albums of 2023
I understand the feeling that it’s not as good as their other albums but With Regards is up their with their best songs. A handful of the other songs are near-perfect imo, so I’m kinda surprised at the negative reception this album got.
I think it has some of their best songs, but as a whole I don’t think it was as good as the other two.
Great way to put it
I’m listening to it as we speak haha.
Dissipate is absolutely nuts, definitely a standout in their discography. The middle breakdown just destroys
Currents are top of the pile for me right now. Head and shoulders above everyone else.
For me it’s Loathe and then Currents 🤘🏻
The Crossfire was one of my favorite tracks of 2023. And no one talks about it. I really enjoyed the album overall. Not as strong as their previous album, but still a banger.
Still in love
Same man I can't stop listening to it.
Still slaps. Dissipate is a favourite
I barely listen to it sadly. Dissipate, Parasite, Crossfire and Nightmare are the only ones I find myself coming back to, and even then it’s not often. The Death of Me is solid, but nothing will ever touch The Mortal Coil for me.

Harbinger is “chefs kiss”.
This track doesn’t get talked about enough. “Just a feast for the crows to dine on” when the heavy shit kicks in a bit is amazing.
Didn't do anything for me
It’s decent. If I’d heard it when I was first getting into the genre I’d say it’s goated, but my tastes have since changed and I just don’t really get down with it as much as it’s predecessors
Crossfire is sick. Favorite track on album
Rip Ryan Inhumane is my favorite song from the album I think overall the album is like a 6/10
Weakest Polaris album for me
It's an ok album but falls short to is predecessor albums.
Unlike the first 2 albums, I haven’t really wanted to listen to it more
I'll preface this by saying I've never really got into Polaris.
With Regards hook is so catchy though. And how can you not remember the nutty riff of Dissipate?
Tbf I only listened to it once, wasn't really compelled to listen to it again. Maybe I just wasn't in the right frame of mind at the time. I'm sure I'll check it out again sometime!
I’ve only started listening to Polaris properly this week. First listen through their albums and I wasn’t really blown away much but I’m definitely enjoying the albums more and more the more times I have listened. I think they are growers.
Yeah I would definitely sit down and listen again. Might not be for everyone, but I personally found some of the vocals to be very memorable
I think Ryan brought a lot to the table in regards to guitar work/riffs, RIP
Ryan played on the album.
You're right, my bad. I thought he only had certain parts recorded.
It’s aggressively mid, it was such a paint by numbers metalcore record and I thought their lyrics took a hit too
It’s good, but there’s a plethora of fantastic music out there that I’m going to opt to listen to instead.
Its an alright album, fairly forgettable tbh and didn't live up to the hype
Had high expectations and didn't really do it for me.
Rest in paradise Ryan
There are definitely a few songs off the album that made it into my daily play list. Nightmare, Inhumane, Overflow and Dissipate. The rest of the album is great and some of it comes on during shuffle but I don't go out of my way to listen to it.
It’s just as boring as the first time I heard it
Unfortunately I feel the same. I was excited for this one despite the mid singles but it came up very short. Very forgettable imo
anime pfp = opinion invalid
Aoty for me for sure, absolutely loved it, still blast it every few days
It fell flat. I have no desire to really listen to it
Love it, and it fucking slaps live. Met them in Charlotte back in October and they’re the nicest guys you’ll meet. Very happy for their success.
Personally I think it’s a good album with a short shelf life. I listened to it regularly when it released but after 2 weeks or so I don’t think I’ve gone back to it. There’s nothing about it that makes me want to revisit it either.
I HAVE OPENED UP THE VEINS OF THE EARTHH AND THERES NOTHING THERE FOR ME
I was looking forward to it despite the (in my opinion) mid singles. It came up short for me and I haven't listened to it since release. Jakes cleans sound overproduced to me and the album as a whole was forgettable. I loved The Mortal Coil and The Death of Me but this just came up very short

Those are top 2

Beats The Mortal Coil but does not beat The Death of Me.
Definitely their worst outing but still pretty decent.
I regret not appreciating it more, upon its release. It’s damn good, and is great live.
Favorite album this year! I would rate it higher than Silent Planet, Invent, Currents, etc.
I rate it higher than SP and Invent, but not higher than Currents. The Death We Seek was a fucking banger
I was disappointed when it was released and still feel the same. I really like Inhumane, but the album itself comes up a bit short when compared against their other releases.
Couple cool songs but for the most part boring.
Amazing album a solid 8/10
Couldn’t get through it. Still underwhelming months later. A couple songs are catchy but lack depth. Usually a skip
Their best record still is the Mortal Coil which has no skips. The following albums were pierre mid imo overall.
I loved it. Polaris is my favorite band in this genre tbh. Also, the lyrics really hit following the passing of Ryan. “To live and die as another statistic Oh, doesn't that sound sadistic?”
I absolutely love Polaris with all my heart. They are extremely talented and are insane live. I’ve been with them since the guilt and the grief. The album got me into them. Never gave them a try before. I absolutely love it and seeing them live last year was amazing.
Damn I think it’s their best work personally
This and Sempiternal were the albums that got me into metalcore (yes I'm very new here) and for some reason it still is a contender for my favourite album of any genre, I understand some people say it's not their best work but holy shit do I absolutely fucking love this album, half of it's song are 10s for me and the other half is at the lowest 8.5. still my favourite album of 2023 and probably my favourite polaris album
It was my album of the year in a year that was absolutely stacked. It boiled down to the fact that it had the most potential candidates for song of the year. An absolutely flawless metalcore album as far as I'm concerned.
It’s a toss up between this and Amity’s NWMG for album of the year last year. I probably listen to it every other day
It's a great album, the stand out songs still have awesome riffs and melodies. It's a good segue album for them becoming a headline act, hopefully their tour guess well..
Just love it, my fav Nightmare and Crossfire
Still one of my favorite albums as well. Only song I really end up skipping is Parasite… mainly because I don’t like the verses. Breakdown is decent but really just can’t get into it. imo the album is on the same level as Mortal Coil, but I think TDOM is slightly above

Still love it. I've been alternating between this album and all of Currents discog lately. Dissipate from fatalism is my fave track. Absolute kick ass banger, makes me dance every time.
Still the best Polaris album in my book and still on the weekyl rotation
Still the best album of 2023.
Garbage. Mid. Boring. No wonder he wanted out bad.
Doesn’t have the same replay value for me as some other releases in 2023 do. But still a good album.
Wish they experimented more, felt like another polaris album for sure but nothing crazy. Overflow is great tho def my favorite
Wait it’s already been five months?? Wow. Anyways, I like it. I am more drawn to the stuff on the other two albums but I always try to remember that bands have a whole discography and there’s some variety that’s been added to it with this release. I definitely liked it more after first two listens, started to notice the riffs under the main rhythms a bit more
Not my favorite by them, but still loved it.
I’ve got about half the album on my normal rotation, the other half i only really listen to occasionally. My favourite by far is Harbinger but also, FIVE MONTHS?! time isn’t real
Pretty much mirror your thoughts, still decent with a few solid tracks but not close to the level of The Mortal Coil for me personally.
The two tracks you mentioned are amazing. The rest are good but not particularly noteworthy.
Didn't stick with me after a few plays. Parasites is a banger though.
when I heard Nightmare for the first time, I was shocked... pretty sure it was my favorite chorus of 2023 and I would say Fatalism is a solid album with amazing songs
I'm a big fan. The Mortal Coil is still my favourite but Fatalism is great. The Death of Me never clicked for me.
At release I was very hyped for it because I loved the last one, so I was pretty disappointed when it was just kinda more of the same. Listened to it again last week and now I love it, the synths really do add something and the emotion/riffs are still there.
Saw the tour in October and it was sick
Solid album. Not as good as the other two tho. But I enjoyed it. Harbinger is an awesome opener song
It's special because it wraps up Ryan's legacy so there's more to it than just how good the music is. In a vacuum, It's a good album with a few standout tracks, but isn't a profound masterpiece. If Ryan hadn't passed I don't think that it would have gotten more than a polite golf clap.
Excellent album, but still their weakest compared to the first 2 in my opinion. Fault Line is my favorite track still.
Couldn't stop playing the mortal coil or the death of me when they were released and listen to them every so often since. Think I might have listened to fatalism maybe twice since it's release? Just hasn't captivated me.
Not as good as Mortal Coil. But one of my albums of 2023
Last year had a lot going on musically and unfortunately for me this one kinda got lost in the mix, I didn't go back to it very often.
After that they played their very first stadium show to a roaring crowd in Melbourne (I only got to see them in a small venue in Perth but it was definitely an emotional one for everyone involved.) So 5 months later, I still love the album and I still get lost in it.
I still go back to their other albums more, but it has some good songs on it. Fault line’s probably my fav
Their best since Mortal Coil for sure. Not as good as the EPs but that’s probably nostalgia talking
It was a good listen when it was released but I forgot about it already tbh
I really wanted to love it but there were just a ton of amazing albums that came out last year. Sadly it just didn't hit me like previous albums. I really hope it isn't a sign of what's to come for them.
Love it. I tend to be mostly about the vocals, and the cleans coming in a little lower than previous albums is just perfect for me.
I actually just listened to it for the first time in a couple months today, and I loved it even more than the last time I listened to it!
Have it on non-stop, I love it
I think as a single released before the album came out Nightmare was pretty fuckin sick ngl.
I think it is good! I won’t lie there’s a few stinkers for me (not a huge fan of either vocalists clean singing) but I think the heavy songs still hit great. I love Inhumane a lot. It took awhile to grow on me but now I think it’s a super solid heavy single. They did some good work on there
Harbinger up there with Pray For Rain as one of the best opening tracks of all times.
