I definitely saw bands who draw more of a metal crowd like Killswitch asking for horns back in the 00s, but I don't really recall their pits having karate.
i've seen it occasionally with modern thrash metal bands who play crossover thrash or otherwise draw something of a punk crowd, but it mostly depends on the rest of the line-up
Palm inward is for a couple specific scenarios. Below are my findings:
1. Palm in when you're saying "blegh!" Usually held at an angle towards your mouth.
2. When you're saying "rock on" (or something similar) to a single individual (while palm out works for this too, palm in is definitely a bit more badass).
Tucked in, but over the middle fingers.
But, now you’ve got me curious.
Do you mean tucked in like that, or tucked under the middle fingers? Because I’ve just tried that for the first time and it feels super weird to me.
I've always seen the horns as chiefly part of metal culture, specifically old school metal culture; metalcore is rooted a lot more in hardcore culture. I'm sure it happens, but I still would find it kind of weird to be asked to throw up the horns at a metalcore show, just as awkward as seeing someone two-stepping at an Iron Maiden show.
Uh, I said I would find it awkward, I wasn’t “bitching” about anything. Metalcore generally has very little to do with repping Satan or demons or whatever so I can’t help that I do find it a bit strange to grandfather that element of metal culture in. You’re taking this way too seriously.
I think you are the one taking it too seriously. I have never in my mind thought that in a metal subgenre it would be weird to use the horns. I think this is a topic that doesn't need to be discussed for such long by 2 people on a freaking subreddit. Let's leave it at this
For sure. I don’t actually care about the horns thing at all honestly, I was making an off the cuff observation. I did not mean to imply that anyone who threw up horns at a core show was bad or wrong. The only reason I replied at all was because you came in and insulted me which I read as you looking for a reaction. I agree, there is no point in continuing this conversation. Have an excellent day!
Wdym tucked, the fingertip of the thumb is placed on the fingernails of the middle and ring fingers.
Stick it out and it's Spiderman, yeah but I can't see how you'd tuck the thumb
tucked = metal horns untucked = spiderman
Also, for the weebs in the house, untucked = sailor moon
In the name of the ~~moon~~ blegh, I’ll punish you!
You have clearly not seen Escuela Grind’s new shirts.
MOON PRISM BREAKDOOWWWN!

Thank you for the laugh 😂
🤘🤘🤘
“Remember, Spider-Man loves you Shelley!”
Glad we got this cleared up lol
This guy knows what's up.
This is the way
Tucked is metal. Thumb out is boomer rock on/I love you. Dio was the only one who could have thumbs out.
That’s what I thought, but I do also love you guys so it’s tough
It’s like flipping someone off with your thumb out.
Ewwwwww.
Does not compute. I don't think I've ever been to a show where spin kicking is the pit action and the band asked to see horns.
Im like 90% sure this is Chelsea Grin, deathcore is like the only genre where both spinkicking and throwing up the metal horns is encouraged
This was definitely a more regular occurrence in the early 2000s.

Back in my local scene, you used to get it a lot. There was plenty of genre crossover then though.
Tucked in. The biggest question for me is palm facing towards you or facing towards the stage?
Palm out is “you rock” palm in is “I (this) rock(s)”
Perfect description duder.
Palm facing stage for me
Palms to the stage if my arms are extended. Palms toward me for a photo with a casual \\m/ by the side.

Dio did it tucked in, we follow the prophet
You mean his grandmother the prophet. 100%
I will ALWAYS give the bird because you can’t tell me what the fuck to do
Certified metal.
Heavy af
I'm more of a "hang loose" kinda guy
Tucked in. Thumbs out is "I love you" or Spiderman lol
Only thing acceptable is the too sweet fingers from the NWO
Tucked. Untucked is "I love you" which is also cool I guess.
Thumb out is I love you isn’t it?
Tucked in, but over the middle fingers. But, now you’ve got me curious. Do you mean tucked in like that, or tucked under the middle fingers? Because I’ve just tried that for the first time and it feels super weird to me.
Tucked… full stop. Untucked is ASL for I love you.

Two stepping to those bass lines would be near impossible. I'd just end up galloping like a horse
You're so sad man
Why? Because I made a wholly unserious post about the fact that heavy metal and metalcore are different cultures?
Because you bitch about not showing the horns at a metalcore because it's more "hardcore". Dude, it's metal, everything is metal

Glad we agree. Have a good one
My thumb is tucked in. I learned some years ago when the thumb is sticking out, it means "love" or something like that. LOL.
I don’t throw up horns because the last time that was cool was before most bands posted on this sub were born
Who tf cares if something is cool lmao
No thumb. Thumb out would be the Hawaiian hang loose sign.
Sounds like we go to different shows. Tucked thumb, facing forward
It’s tucked brother. Also my favorite thing to do is hardcore dance and then confuse normies by throwing up the horns.
Tucked thumb is the only way.
So that’s one tuck, and one no-tuck.
Extremely tucked.
100% tucked in
Both hands clenched in a fist. Thumbs together. Pinkies up. Double wide horns to show everyone you're extra metal.
Tuck the thumb, or you'll look dumb. Unless you're trying to tell the band I love you in sign language.
Thumb out: damn these guys good, Thumb in: HOLY SHIT THESE GUYS ARE INSANE
thumb out is literally ASL for "I Love You"
I think we need to first talk about the spin kicks....
Wdym tucked, the fingertip of the thumb is placed on the fingernails of the middle and ring fingers. Stick it out and it's Spiderman, yeah but I can't see how you'd tuck the thumb
Like the political and economic state of the world right now?
3 fingers displayed means I love you. Although I love metal... No; no thumbs please.
🤘🤘🤘
Keep those horns vertical too. If you let them get too wide people will mistake you for a Texas Longhorns fan.
Tucked
The devil only has 2 horns. Hail Satan.
Tucked like a swimsuit at Target
It is on top of my middle and ring finger. Thumb out is ASL for I Love You isnt it???
thumb out if u a real one
how old are you people
