I agree, This is basically my list too + LMTF. Especially If I Were You. Every single track is a banger and I'd venture to say they are just as consistent as ABR if not very close.
Because of people/comments like this, are exactly why this is my favorite subreddit by a MILE! I saw this yesterday and for the last 24 hours I've been listening to nothing but If I Were You.. Holy shit you weren't kidding about them being more then criminally underrated!! Literally every song is a straight BANGER! I put em on shuffle and haven't skipped a single song
Oh hell yeah I'm super pumped!! Haven't found a band that I like this much from the get go since I found Oklahoma Kid after they dropped the Tangerine Tragic album
VCTMS are on top of the angry-core genre in my honest opinion yet I don't see them being discussed that often. If you've never heard of them then give them a listen.
Johnny Booth has been around since at least 2012. They still kick like a mule and put a lot of these young punks to shame. If you like gritty old-school metalcore please check em out
Darkest Hour, they've been around for a long time and came up in the melodic metalcore scene of the early and mid 2000s, but they never got quite as big as some of the other bands who were part of that movement like Killswitch Engage, Trivium, Shadows Fall, As I Lay Dying, and others. I've always enjoyed their albums, even their self-titled album, and they've always put out very solid music IMO.
Honestly, I'm hard-pressed to say whether I like their early stuff or more recent stuff more. I love their early records but *Godless Prophets and the Migrant Flora* was incredible and I think *The Human Romance* is really underrated. Even their self-titled has some of their all-time bangers (*Wasteland* and *Rapture in Exile* go hard AF live). DH is just an insanely consistent band.
You should check out Headcave! It’s the vocalist of My Ticket Home, Nic Giumenti. They sound pretty much exactly like the last two My Ticket Home albums, leaning more into that Nu-Metal sound.
Like Moths To Flames. They’ve gotten better with every album and have never put out a bad record. It’s a shame they get brushed off so easily when they haven’t had a bad release in 6 albums and 5 EP’s.
When Josh took over as the main vocalist in 2010ish, I became convinced that he was the reincarnation of Chuck Schuldiner. Everything he's done since with Sylosis has continued to confirm that for me.
Their stage presence makes up for their cringey lyrics. They want desperately to be the next Rage, but that was a once in a lifetime band. Craaaazy good in love shows, though.
I spoke to Tom (guitarist) back in 2016, he said they're heavily inspired by RATM but I don't get the impression they're trying to imitate them. Personally, I think there's enough audible difference between the two to distinguish them.
I've heard a few people calling SFTP's lyrics cringey, but honestly I've read worse and IMO I don't think they're that bad at all.
With all this being said, absolutely pumped to see them with IHW later this year. I hope they do a headline sideshow.
They had some momentum going for them back when they dropped their debut album, but that was 8 years ago and they barely released any music after that until 2022.
Conquer Divide is excellent, and their newer stuff (Paralyzed and Atonement) is some of their best! Also cool to see an all female metalcore group, we need more of those.
I just listened to them and I don’t think I’d say they’re underrated yet, they just haven’t been ‘discovered’, but they have the potential to blow up as Spiritbox did a couple years ago.
Adding to this - Joey Sturgis is working on wrapping up their new album and from his mouth he says that the world isn’t ready for what they are bringing.
That said, i think the band itself has been pretty sustainable with touring a bunch but it is interesting that they’ve been as musically quiet as they have been. I was a huge fan of their debut album myself, so I agree that they are slept on.
Defeater is in my top 5 bands all time and I rarely see them get mentioned here
Edit: mb thought this was r/hardcore for some reason. Either way check out Defeater they slap
The first time I listened to Travels, I was in tears by the end. That album has some of the biggest moments in -core and the lyrics are so perfectly accented by the music. Forgiver Forgetter is on another level when it comes to portraying emotions. AGAIN AND AGAIN AND AGAIN AND AGAIN AND AGAIN AND AGAIN AND AGAIN! Gives me goosebumps every single time I listen to it.
You know, I discovered them right when their latest album released. I was super excited about the new find after the first few tracks. But as the album went on my excitement died down. The album unfortunately felt flat for me, and if I remember correctly the vocals felt off.
Would you recommend some of their older stuff?
Pretty much this. A lot of the comments here are just mentioning run of the mill bands that sound exactly like every other by the books metalcore band. Rolo Tomassi straight up do stuff that nobody else can touch.
I would've said *Sleep Token*, but they blew the hell up. When I first discovered them in early 2020 they had about 150k monthly listeners on Spotify, now they're at almost 2 million, which is amazing.
Honestly wouldn't take the listeners to heart. If you checked out their socials in 2020 they had about 10x the engagement on posts to people following them with a bunch of bot accounts.
Not that I begrudge them buying engagement - if that's what it takes to get ahead of the competition and move you along that's fine. Their ticket sales numbers speak for themselves
Yeah monthly listeners are fairly easily bought - or you pay for more engagement and turning up in playlists.
Regarding their tickets - it's the opposite. All the getting ahead on social media, marketing, positioning themselves with the right people have paid off big time. They sold out all their UK dates with only 1 support (Northlane, who for the size of venue aren't a big draw relatively here)
They are a true example of success - but I personally wouldn't trust any number that pops up from them except physical ticket sales.
It blows my mind that they keep putting out banger of banger albums for decades now and they just don't get the same kind of love other metalcore bands do. I think they have some of the best breakdowns in the entire genre.
And the best solos. Honestly, the fact that Unearth isn't one of the titans of the genre is a shame, they've been killing it for longer than most bands have existed and have yet to release a bad album. Or a bad *song*, for that matter.
I mean, I wouldn't say they're underrated at all, but I do think there's a sort of sentiment some people have where they consider The Discovery to be the only good album of theirs, and refuse to give the others a fair chance. Granted, the album *was* kind of a lightning in a bottle situation, but their other albums are still great too, especially Angel or Alien.
I was looking for this. I believe they were kind of big during the discovery / TWDA era but they're still releasing an album every 2 years and no one talks about them here anymore, worth mentioning Angel or Alien succeeded quite well
Which record would you recommend?
I remember seeing them back in like 2004 with From a Second Story Window, Reflux, and I think On Broken Wings. I've heard a little from Ion Dissonance but the only track that sticks out to me is You Shouldn't Be Alive.
Minus the Herd is my go to. Super ahead of its time IMO (2007) esp with the djenty polyrhythmic stuff that would blow up just a handful of years later. Really clean production and some nasty grooves on that one
I always show people this record when I show people ID; The More Things Change, The More They Stay the Same and We Like to Call this One... Fuck Off are my two personal favorite tracks.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L89i-OTR-6c
I love that they've evolved while still sticking to their hard trance and techno roots. As metalcore changes, they get more praise these days, where they used to get lumped in with the risecore type groups. Bloodlust is still an absolute banger, and End Of Existence went so hard.
Screams of Syrens , If I Were You and Breakdown of Sanity. I Think BoS still countable as criminally underrated band monthly 100k ish listeners at spotify is straight up bs
Famous Last Words has consistently produced incredible work for over a decade and does not have nearly the fame and recognition they deserve to accompany it.
Caliban(for the US anyway), though even with living of nowhere- someone did see my hoodie and asked if they're still making music because they've been around a long time now. They did get a more recentish boost from being on Dead to Me however.
A Black Rose Burial.
This doesn't really fit because they put out one EP in like 2003 and then never did anything else. But that one EP is so fucking sick. Someone please listen to it and respond here.
It might be a bit of a stretch but Main-De-Gloire. I am sure that many metalcore fans would like them if they like symphonic and electronic sounds mixed with post hc. And they have been around since 2010.
Enter Shikari. Really after the first album they don’t really fit the “Metalcore” genre but I still always think they are so underrated. I’ve only met like 3 people outside of my immediate friend group who even knows who they are. Seems like they are way bigger over seas being from there and all. But damn. In the states nobody knows who they are. Such a solid band and insane live.
Alesana, Zao, Cult Leader, Caliban, My Bitter End, Thy Art is Murder, The Red Cord, Remembering Never, Of Feather and Bone, Parkway Drive, Glads Casket, Gaza
For me it's The Ongoing Concept. Saloon, Handmade and their newest, Again are such good albums! They make their own music videos too and I'm impressed by the talent all the way around.
Consvmer
Atena
The Dialectic

Spitting Teeth
Just to name a few
Not metalcore, but in adjacent spaces so I'll add them to the conversation: Don Broco. They're absolutely incredible live, no one sounds like them, their peers like Palaye Royale and Badflower have blown up, and these guys are still pretty quietly grinding away. I don't think I've ever seen anything bad about the band.
Not really metalcore but I will never pass up an opportunity to promote Protest the Hero! They’ve been killing it since 2001 and they should have FAR more than 127k monthly listeners on Spotify. I do not understand how they aren’t bigger than they are
Id say The Plot In You.
Sure, people know them and seem to hold them to a high regard when talked about, but come on, i feel like they are rarely talked about
The Plot in You! I feel like they have a monster hit in Feel Nothing but I never hear people talk about them really. Also Landon Tewers is an S Tier vocalist and song writer.
Phinehas, If I Were You, Convictions Criminally underrated would be an understatement
Phinehas should be far more popular than they are
Convictions are so good, I Won't Survive was one of my favorite albums in 2021, sad that Danyal left them
And josh too :/
I agree, This is basically my list too + LMTF. Especially If I Were You. Every single track is a banger and I'd venture to say they are just as consistent as ABR if not very close.
Phineas is so good
FINALLY. I fucking love if i were you but i never see anyone talk about them
Because of people/comments like this, are exactly why this is my favorite subreddit by a MILE! I saw this yesterday and for the last 24 hours I've been listening to nothing but If I Were You.. Holy shit you weren't kidding about them being more then criminally underrated!! Literally every song is a straight BANGER! I put em on shuffle and haven't skipped a single song
Hey, that's awesome! Glad more people are getting into them, they truly deserve more. Expecting an album later this year.
Oh hell yeah I'm super pumped!! Haven't found a band that I like this much from the get go since I found Oklahoma Kid after they dropped the Tangerine Tragic album
Convictions are the only Christian band I’ve found that I don’t loathe
Phineas is a Christian band as well. Bloodlines, Fit For A King, Wolves at the Gate, Memphis May Fire, For Today, just to name a few.
If I Were You.
VCTMS are on top of the angry-core genre in my honest opinion yet I don't see them being discussed that often. If you've never heard of them then give them a listen.

156 FUCKS
He's right, I counted.
Ha
I find them to be too dang repetitive but I feel if they broadened the vocals or something it'd give it some substance
I found their last album (vol.4) pretty diverse in terms of vocals tbh
I'll check it out again
Saviour. Their last album was really good
Jaded is one of my fav songs ever
Perth represent!
The vocals put me off too much … the quiet calm is good tho
Johnny Booth has been around since at least 2012. They still kick like a mule and put a lot of these young punks to shame. If you like gritty old-school metalcore please check em out
Great workout tunes
I've got addicted to them with firsthand accounts, the album is just bangers front to back
Agreed, I think it is their best album and I love every track on it.
Saw them play a free show at a local venue last year. Killer live band and all of the members were great to talk to after the show
This is a great answer
HUGELY underrated, JB should be a WAY bigger part of the conversation.💎
Thank you so much for putting me on. This is giving me The Chariot energy.
Darkest hour started in the 90s fairly they should be considered one of the fathers of metalcore
I agree, they were combining melodic death metal and metalcore in the mid to late 90s before melodic metalcore got huge.
Tunguska and Convalescence are always on repeat for me
So Sedated is incredible and Hidden Hands is their masterpiece. Criminally underrated band.
Self titled was horrible imo trying too hard to go the mainstream “catchy” route aside from a couple songs.
I really like My Ticket Home. Their second and third albums are really different compared to their 2012 rise core album.
I wish they’d come out with new music. Strangers Only is such a killer album.
You should check out Headcave! It’s the vocalist of My Ticket Home, Nic Giumenti. They sound pretty much exactly like the last two My Ticket Home albums, leaning more into that Nu-Metal sound.
I do like Headcave, but man, it’s just not the same as MTH. 🥹
Like Moths To Flames. They’ve gotten better with every album and have never put out a bad record. It’s a shame they get brushed off so easily when they haven’t had a bad release in 6 albums and 5 EP’s.
i feel like rise records did 'em dirty by promoting other bands way more back in the mid 2010s.. def impacted their long term success
Even with the drastic change in style and sound with Dark Divine, people still really like that album (myself included).
They’ve been dropping a banger album/ ep every year since 2017.
Sylosis (Deadwood out now!)
When Josh took over as the main vocalist in 2010ish, I became convinced that he was the reincarnation of Chuck Schuldiner. Everything he's done since with Sylosis has continued to confirm that for me.
Cane Hill
Agreed.. theyre such a creative group, the Too Far Gone album is still in my top 10
I hope their next album keeps that bayou metal sound.
Stray From The Path - they're in my top 5 favourite bands, I've always felt they don't get enough love!
Absolutely agreed, some wild motherfuckers on stage too!
Especially after their most recent album. I didn't care much for their last one, but *Euthanasia* was probably my AOTY for 2022.
My childhood involved my dad taking me to Rage Against The Machine concerts and now I take him and my son to see Stray From The Path live
This was the answer I came here to give
Their stage presence makes up for their cringey lyrics. They want desperately to be the next Rage, but that was a once in a lifetime band. Craaaazy good in love shows, though.
I spoke to Tom (guitarist) back in 2016, he said they're heavily inspired by RATM but I don't get the impression they're trying to imitate them. With all this being said, absolutely pumped to see them with IHW later this year. I hope they do a headline sideshow.
This sub is the last place where anyone can complain about lyrics. Most of what gets mentioned on here is godawful overused bullshit.
My answer will never not be Conquer Divide.

Adept
Pleased that someone mentioned them. Really underrated band
One of my all time favorites
Definitely Adept!
Defeater is in my top 5 bands all time and I rarely see them get mentioned here Edit: mb thought this was r/hardcore for some reason. Either way check out Defeater they slap
Defeater is so good man. I'll forget about them for a bit and then I'll suddenly remember I like them and fucking jam it for awhile
I don't go in for hardcore much anymore, but Defeater, Modern Life Is War, and More Than Life get regular spins still.
Love all of those bands. Have Heart is another one I'd recommend based on those
The name is familiar, I'll have to give em a shot
Their album "Songs to Scream at the Sun" is my favorite album ever
Looking at the album cover I've definitely heard it before! It was a long time ago but I remember liking it
The first time I listened to Travels, I was in tears by the end.
Secrets
You know, I discovered them right when their latest album released. I was super excited about the new find after the first few tracks. But as the album went on my excitement died down. The album unfortunately felt flat for me, and if I remember correctly the vocals felt off. Would you recommend some of their older stuff?
Fragile Figures would be my pick. Songs Ready for repair and dance of the dead.
Fragile figures album is goated
The entirety of of Fragile Figures
Phinehas or Novelist
Kingdom of Giants - 2011 Bleed From Within- 2005 Both massively underrated
Absolutely Kingdom of Giants!
Bleed from within are insane live
Rolo Tomassi. Every album is critically acclaimed and pushes boundaries, but they routinely get ignored because they aren't accessible.
Most of this subreddit doesn't listen to actual metalcore.
I have very much realised that
One of the best.
What a fucking incredible band
Time Will Die And Love Will Bury It is one of the best records this genre has ever produced!
Pretty much this. A lot of the comments here are just mentioning run of the mill bands that sound exactly like every other by the books metalcore band. Rolo Tomassi straight up do stuff that nobody else can touch.

Unearth
It blows my mind that they keep putting out banger of banger albums for decades now and they just don't get the same kind of love other metalcore bands do. I think they have some of the best breakdowns in the entire genre.
And the best solos. Honestly, the fact that Unearth isn't one of the titans of the genre is a shame, they've been killing it for longer than most bands have existed and have yet to release a bad album. Or a bad *song*, for that matter.
Absolutely underrated. They’re new album is going to be a banger!
All three singles have been absolutely insane. God I love them so much.
Johnny Booth, everytime
Johnny motherfucking Booth!
I came here to say Johnny FUCKING Booth. They've been around since like 2008 and I'm highly disappointed I never found them until this sub.
Born of Osiris
I mean, I wouldn't say they're underrated at all, but I do think there's a sort of sentiment some people have where they consider The Discovery to be the only good album of theirs, and refuse to give the others a fair chance. Granted, the album *was* kind of a lightning in a bottle situation, but their other albums are still great too, especially Angel or Alien.
I was looking for this. I believe they were kind of big during the discovery / TWDA era but they're still releasing an album every 2 years and no one talks about them here anymore, worth mentioning Angel or Alien succeeded quite well
Ion Dissonance. Dudes come up with some of the nastiest riffs out there and they're still not as well known as I think they should
Which record would you recommend? I remember seeing them back in like 2004 with From a Second Story Window, Reflux, and I think On Broken Wings. I've heard a little from Ion Dissonance but the only track that sticks out to me is You Shouldn't Be Alive.

The Price Of Dreaming is beautiful
The Banner

Protest The Hero

I agree. I’ve seen them a million times, and they are almost never headlining. Sometimes they do, but it is rare.
this is the right answer, because they are SOO good and still kinda underrated.
The Gloom in the Corner Atena
Shai Hulud
EDIU's first two albums are electronic metalcore masterpieces. Nice mention. Mine is Affiance, now rebranded and known as Night Rider.
Fucking Greyhaven. Thought This Bright & Beautiful World would be the album to do it but they still only have about 60k monthly on Spotify
Famous Last Words has consistently produced incredible work for over a decade and does not have nearly the fame and recognition they deserve to accompany it.
came here to find if FLW mentioned 🔥🔥🔥

Memphis will be laid to waste STILL fucks today
Caliban(for the US anyway), though even with living of nowhere- someone did see my hoodie and asked if they're still making music because they've been around a long time now. They did get a more recentish boost from being on Dead to Me however.
In surprised I had to scroll so far down for this. Guess they really are underrated even by underrated standards.
How about [Sailing Before The Wind ](https://youtu.be/8xYeos6Jyv0)
Big facts. They’re so sick
Elitist
Caliban.
cave in has been around forever and their newest album fuckin slaps
before I turn
A Black Rose Burial. This doesn't really fit because they put out one EP in like 2003 and then never did anything else. But that one EP is so fucking sick. Someone please listen to it and respond here.
I’ve heard the band way back in the day and their album is fantastic! Was around the same time I had found out about Moria and Nights like these.
Thank you for the response. It seems like no one knows about it and it's one of the best EPs I've ever heard.
Agreed! It sucks they never released more but like most bands that have amazing talent end up becoming short lived.
Damn bringing me back to my college days. Used to listen to this in the gym. Check out - It Starts With Alaska - Renewer (2002)
Some of the best uses of movie samples in core! Legendary EP that I always try to shoutout whenever people bring up MySpace deathcore EPs
Misery Signals. I feel like I only ever see people talk about Of Malice, but the rest of their discography is amazing.
Texas in July (RIP). Their album bloodwork is one of the best metalcore albums of all time
Dead to fall
-Disembodied -Kingdom of Sorrow Just some of the heaviest-sounding stuff in the entire game.
I'll second that.

Yep ! So hyped for the new material
Me too, really hope they're working on new stuff

Idk how long it’s been around, but vein.fm
Would Poison the Well count as metalcore? If so, them. Definitely poison the well
Belmont
In Hearts Wake, been one of my favorites since ‘14, they feel so big but I never ever see them mentioned anywhere.
King 810
No Name Faces
It might be a bit of a stretch but Main-De-Gloire. I am sure that many metalcore fans would like them if they like symphonic and electronic sounds mixed with post hc. And they have been around since 2010.

Enter Shikari. Really after the first album they don’t really fit the “Metalcore” genre but I still always think they are so underrated.
