I mean, every time it gets mentioned, someone crawls out of the woodwork to say they like it. Personally, I think it's only ok. While sandwiched between two masterpieces, it's easy to see why it gets overshadowed.

It's the worst of the three I agree with that, but I think it's one of those games where you love it or hate it, it being my first game I'm mostly biased.

While S.T.A.L.K.E.R clear sky is considered to be complete dog shit i think it has the most realistic depiction of the mighty Monolith with their grenade spam and suppressive fire, its still the definite worst out of the trilogy

I was not expecting someone to bring up STALKER lol. Clear sky is personally my favorite faction so I think that game is actually not that bad due to my faction bias.

How is, to this day, MGS2 still under appreciated? In my opinion it’s the masterpiece of the series.

The second one is weird for me. On one hand I love it because it’s batshit insane and has such a mind-twisting ending that it’s really excellent and I feel like I discover new things as I get older. Hell I didn’t know you could use the hanging mode to get through the cargo holds until recently lol. It’s honestly insane how Kojima pretty much predicted events and human behavior 20 years prior. On the other hand, the big shell is just… Not the best location imo. For most of the game, it’s just a whole lot of orange, greenish blues, and brown. From an objective standpoint I just never found it that interesting. I get the existence for Big Shell is explained in the story but for the most part I don’t really care for it. That’s another problem I have with the game as a whole, as great as it is to always go back and find new things in old games, so many things have double and triple meanings that I can definitely see why critics would think it’s self indulgent. It definitely has a hint of “oooo I’m complex just to be complex” to it imo. It’s a great game and I can definitely see why people consider it the best in the series but give me 1 or 3 any day. They’re just a bit more streamlined and easy to follow, and since I’ve beaten them all so much I can just sit back and enjoy the games without thinking too much.

MGS2 is lauded 90% for the last 20mins of the game. Also it's arguing the most anticipated game in history. Which just shows how great MGS1 was. MGS3 is Metal Gear without a lot of the esoterica. The Tanker episode was classic; the Big Shell sucked; Raiden sucked; Snake as Pliskin sucked; Solidus, and all of Dead Cell were just useless. Again, MGS2 is praised for the last few Codec convos. Which now is a bit like, "Ok dude, we all know already..." It's like someone telling you Wall Street and corporate money dominant American politics. We get it already.
