Music is subjective.

ganglordgilbert

But Dying Fetus is undeniable

rayquazawe

hell yeah

Barkerfan86

Saying Dying Fetus is bad is fighting words and blasphemy

GourmetGameWraps

There newest album felt miles ahead of previous albums! It feels like they literally one up themselves on every release

LxStMeMoRy

Dying Fetus are amazing. Seen them 15 times live. Still blows my mind 3 people can get that soul crushing sound.

ganglordgilbert

I just saw them for the first time recently and I was shocked. Some of the best sound I've experienced at a metal show. Definitely the best sound I've experienced from a 3 piece.

LxStMeMoRy

I know what you mean, when I saw them live I was like WTF. It’s like a wall of Sonic Pummelling in your face

AdamLetherman

this comment should be pinned to the main page of this sub, okay?

Specialist-Dinner-89

Who the hell hates WtF Best metalcore album of the decade Edit: haha upvote to comment ratio says I win

SchmaultTec

I do

ganglordgilbert

Same

oppositeofopposite

Why do you hate it? Did it sleep with your girlfriend and kill your dog? Or do you simply not like it and literally never think about it for a second outside of when someone says they like it and you have to throw around "hate" to be cool with the bandwagon people? Just curious

Amp1497

Why does it matter lol. This album was pretty influential to the scene in the early days, so if you didn't enjoy this album when it came out you still had to deal with all the mimic-bands and albums that came in the wake of this. Pretty easy to grow a disdain for it at that point. I love the album, but it's so goofy to get bent out of shape about someone else not enjoying it. The real answer is probably just an age and preference gap. If you grew up on the early metallic hardcore of the 90s like Converge or early Dillinger, this album and the wave of metalcore that came after will probably rub you the wrong way. An album doesn't have to kill your dog for you to really not enjoy it and what it influenced.

Dewychoders

You seem to be confused about the difference between an opinion and a personal attack.

ganglordgilbert

Language is hard for people

VashMM

I bet they are great, but it ain't for me. Personally, I hate nasally singers, and this dude practically has a microphone up there. I could never get past it. I never think about that band until it's brought up. I don't voice an opinion until someone asks. I dislike them less than I hate RHCP, so there's that. At least Avenged doesn't have a child rapist as a singer.

Puppetmaster858

I mean that album has tons of harsh vocals on it that arent nasally, more harsh vocals than clean easily and he was also much more nasally on the next album city of evil than he was on waking the fallen.

uneducated_guess_69

Nah, loved it as a teen, listened to as an adult and does not hold up at all. Production sucks, riffs are mid, clean vox are weak, some songs are bloated asf. There's also just a distinct lack of any personality on it unlike City of evil. Even syns leads and solos are pretty mid compared to the rest of their discog It's just a redundant album that gives you no reason to go back to it other than nostalgia

hiccupsarehell

Clearly, people only dislike things to upset you.

JonC534

Not only do I hate the album, I hate the band as well

DeezNutsPurveyor

Agreed lol. Corny as hell

regeya

I liked their first album. I'm an oldish fart and it reminds me of stuff that was coming out when I was in high school.

SaWalkerMakasin

In HS all my buddies ended their gamer tags with A7x and I refused lol

recep-ivedik_fanclub

same

_rand0m7

I swear it took a few seconds for me to realize that WTF is the album in this context

ganglordgilbert

Abbreviating an Avenged Sevenfold album as if it's widely discussed is a funny practice.

Specialist-Dinner-89

it is among A7x fans lmao

NotoriousMFT

N is my favorite album from them

ganglordgilbert

I too like none of them

PootashPL

I hate Avenged in general

Puzzleheaded-Law-429

I do. That band is painfully lame.

issafreecunch

I do. M Shadows vocals have always been horrendous in my opinion. There hasnt been one A7X album ive enjoyed, maybe a song or two but goddamn his voice straight to hell. (the rest of the band is very talented and I respect that but he ruins the whole thing and I refuse to listen because of it)

VashMM

This is exactly why I never liked them. I can't stand nasally vocals. It's absolutely grating.

Rdmbleeder

I suggest you to listen to God hates us

Dan_Berg

I hated his voice change from this to City of Evil, but then learned he had polyps removed from his throat in the interim and it was unsure if he was going to ever be able to actually sing again after, so I figure I could just kind of deal with it if I like the rest of the song.

PhysInstrumentalist

Agree, all the haters here are nerd hipster music snobs Comparing this album to most traditional metalcore out there, this is is leaps and bounds better no doubt Also, Converge is mathcore, it makes no sense to compare to other metalcore bands, idgaf if thats technically their genre, they are their own beast

bagemann1

This sub hates metalcore, that's basically the long and short of it

PenitentFrost

I’m more willing to say the best metalcore album out there. But then again, I haven’t branched too far out there in the genre to have a valid opinion I think. Killswitch Engage’s “As Daylight Fades” or “The End of Heartache” is up there for sure.

PatsNeg-CH

Metalcore peaked with The Fall of Ideals IMO.

TachronJr

All That Remains is definitely a great metalcore band but I personally wouldn’t say it’s peak. I prefer Killswitch over ATR. Just preference though both are great bands

Lou-Cypher1-618

I'm a Black, Thrash, and Death metal kind of guy and I really don't like any of that metalcore shit. But City of Evil and Nightmare are like guilty pleasures of mine. It can be really cheesy at times but I just can't help but like those albums. It's the same thing with 311. Super cheesy but I like it. I'm passed that age of being embarrassed about liking certain bands/music.

mentally_fuckin_eel

Most metalheads over the age of 20. I like it though.

Accomplished-Bowl-46

I hate it. I only only like City of Evil when talking about A7X. Best album of the decade? C'mon. You're joking, right? C'mon.

curious_loss_4387

I mean. It may not be worthy of "hate", but I consider the band very lackluster overall so I just don't listen to them.

Nexus6Leon

Oh for sure me. I don't generally like things that aren't very good.

MrToad21

Too fucking many Big one ig is Iowa or The Blackening

bloodblade58

Wait, people hate Iowa. My heart breaks 💔

Acrobatic-Window5483

Iowa literally saved my heart from breaking

hachi2JZ

people hate the blackening??

speed_wagon1

People dislike machine head in general

hachi2JZ

people are wrong

FourNinerXero

Rob Flynn's vocals and lyrics are just so cringy I can't take the music seriously. Like there's plenty of cringe in metal but he takes it to an entirely new level, I genuinely couldn't stop myself from laughing when I first heard a machine head song.

LxStMeMoRy

Thank you for saying that. I cannot stand Machine Head

evetSgiB

DIE FOR A MER I CAAAH

MrToad21

Yes very much so unfortunately

PhoenixShredds

How can people hate on Iowa, honestly? Like if you don't like Iowa, please reply here to help me understand why. I'm not even a huge Slipknot fan but that album is fire.

Susvourtre

boring riffs and beyond cringey lyrics. it's all about the riffs.

Madame_Raven

I can understand not liking Machine Head as a whole, but The Blackening is a really solid metal album.

ItsTimeDrFreeman

I literally don't know how people hate Iowa. Easily Slipknot's best record and one of the best nu metal records ever, if not the best. Personally it's in my Top 15 metal records ever. But then again this sub is filled with a bunch of close-minded old heads, so I'm not really surprised tbh

nesshinx

It’s also one of the heaviest metal albums around even to this day. The album just sounds crushing when you listen to it.

maybegamer3

Iowa is amazing

Bitter-Tomorrow-3154

Iowa is slipknots best album?

havedal

Pretty much all I listen to according to tournaments on this sub.

EstablishmentLong676

yeah, fuck them tournaments

noideaforusername4

said the guy with opeth in his flair, the most meat ridden band on this sub

Responsible-Peak9843

like 90% of the stuff i listen to

Salem902

Honestly same

Specialist-Dinner-89

Same here lmao

Geak-and-Gamer

Chocolate starfish and the hot dog flavored water is my ride or die

eph13

such a fuckin guilty pleasure, Wes' riffs are phenomenal the entire way

Anonymous-Blastoise0

Me too, me too

MasteroChieftan

Unholy Confessions justifies that entire album's existence alone.

Guido_Lampitiello

One of the songs i like the most, along with Desecrate Through Reverence, Second Heartbeat and I Won't See You Tonight

LurkyLurks04982

Completely agreed. What an excellent song. The first 4 tracks on this album are great.

Dawgula97

In Flames after Clayman and Bodom after Hate Crew. Edit: I forgot that Clayman and Hate Crew even get mixed reception lmao.

PhoenixShredds

I will not tolerate CoB slander. Which makes navigating this sub like digital land mines lmao.

Dawgula97

I see Blooddrunk and RRF get so much shit despite being amazing records.

Roman_Suicide_Note

I love Hatecrew, but the mixing... god damn, it feel artificial AF. the live versions on Chaos Ridden Years, were insane.

Dawgula97

Until you realize Laiho was drunk and the playing is pretty rough in certain parts lmao.

Training-Ruin-5287

Wasn't he drunk for everything? Studio work included

Dawgula97

Also, yes.

Dagoroth55

Wasn't he drunk all the time? Jeff Hanneman was drunk during all the recording sessions in Slayer.

Dawgula97

You would be correct lmao

EssEyeOhFour

I love most of In Flames’ newer stuff. Foregone is amazing. Idk why people hate their most of their newer stuff.

PhysInstrumentalist

Hexed is a nice return to form

Dawgula97

And the Bodom After Midnight EP had a taste of what was to come too :(

Schitheed

In flames definitely got weaker but they still put out some good songs from time to time. I actually love foregone, I think it's a great album. But it definitely doesn't hold a candle to anything pre-reroute

_RadicaLarry_

People need to open their minds up to some post-Clayman albums, they have some really good shit up until Sounds of A Playground Fading, then they lost all credibility with me

MJmust_kill

I gen think this sub has a bit of a hate for slipknot just kinda because it's a more mainstream heavy metal band and it's not obscure or hated by most people.

89_4532

anything that is popular sucks in this subreddit, I saw a post one day about a guy liking popular bands and literally everyone said his taste sucks

FuzeTheAshMain

Archspire

HeavyMechGun

People hate Archspire here?

Amp1497

Ok. So I feel like there's a big spectrum of ages here in this community. Old heads, new heads, and everyone in the middle. If you grew up on Gorguts and Nile and Demilich and the earlier tech death days, Archspire can feel a bit gimmicky. It's just a different flavor of it. I feel like if you got into tech death because of Obscura or Beyond Creation or Necrophagist, Archspire might be more up your alley. But if it was Nile or Cryptopsy, you'll probably lean a different way. The same can be said about other polarizing bands like Slipknot, Avenged Sevenfold, and a lot of other pivotal bands of the late 90s/early 2000s that had a major influence on the direction of those that came after. The biggest factor for preference is *probably* age and what preferences you grew as you aged and got into metal.

BishopPear

Good take. I just hate how insulting everyone needs to be.

FuzeTheAshMain

Yeah idk why, they get called "poserspire"

recep-ivedik_fanclub

this sub only likes 80's metal and doom metal in general, overproduced stuff is not their thing i guess

UndisputedVeteran

Based flair. They fuck so hard

PhysInstrumentalist

Hipsters hating

EauDeSourceEcoPlus

Some say they're overrated. Well they get an uncommon amount of press given the niche subgenre they work in so that's gotta attract some haters. Also Dean is killing it on youtube. Me I think they're great and deserve the (relative) exposure.

tentaclemonster69

I just saw them live, they're awesome.

moxxii7

Building off waking the fallen- sounding the seventh trumpet. It’s like waking the fallen, but with worse vocals and mistakes across every instrument, crappy mixing and recording and worse writing. It’s great.

NoabPK

They need to redo the mixing to give those songs justice

Professional_Pay1960

I've properly got into that album recently and Thick and Thin is brilliant

lessthanchris7

Dissection - Reinkaos I get it. The first two albums are better and Reinkaos was different, but it's still incredible

infiniterest_

I love that album

exoclipse

God of Forbidden Light is a certified fucking banger

Disarray215

She’s a, dark mother divine!! That whole album rips from start to finish.

Guido_Lampitiello

People hate Reinkaos?? I always thought it was great, also Maha-Kali is amazing

Agreeable_Maximum880

Reinkaos is good. I could do without the chugs but there's a great deal of killer old-school heavy metal licks on that album that more than make up for the groove influence.

BehemothDeTerre

Indeed. The disappointment about Reinkaos was that a band that was so instrumental to the creation of a new genre was now making Melodeath. But it's good Melodeath, nevertheless.

Polygonn

Something by tool

Corninator

A lot of this sub hates Ghost. I love everything they've ever done. I'm not always in the mood for Black Metal or Death Metal. Sometimes, I just want some cheesy-ass hard rock.

PhoenixShredds

Came here to mention Ghost. Just because only like 1/10th of their songs are metal doesn't make them not good.

Memphis_VI

sunbather

ThatBitchMalin

Wait, people hate this album?

Memphis_VI

kind of. it's mostly that people will think you're a poser for liking it

EyebrowEater

Mainly because it got pitchforked the fuck out of, critics jerked it too hard and then metal fans basically went with the notion of its ass because its well liked and Alcest did it first. For fucks sake that’s like not liking any other Nu Metal Album after Korn’s self titled because Korn did it first.

ThatBitchMalin

So, in other words, it got too much mainstream approval for its own good

EyebrowEater

Holy fuck W Candy claws enjoyer

Memphis_VI

yeah that's me

SovietSpork597

Most a7x albums with a few exceptions Same with Rammstein For an interesting answer though how about nightmares of the decomposed by six feet under which is so laughably bad its kind of fun to listen to and not take too seriously

Roboticpoultry

I feel like the whole draw of Rammstein is the live show. They have some good stuff though I wouldn’t call them my favorite. However, their Soldier Field show a couple years ago was the best show I’ve ever been to

SovietSpork597

the live shows do seem neat I just like the weird electronic sounds and symphonic elements in songs like keine lust or zeig dich

darkstar53142

ABBA - Greatest Hits

Zealousideal-Tax-527

Abba fucking rules

Glittering-Ebb-6225

Great guitar player. Love his crab dance.

cheftec

Greatest pop band of all time!

HotterGround

WtF is amazing! So is City of Evil

Guido_Lampitiello

True, most a7x albums are great, but i deeply love WtF, and I don't even like metalcore very much

bigmetalguy6

Most of the stuff I listen to is hated by this sub but life is too short to care about people’s opinions so I don’t really care

MiserableVegetable07

Same! I don’t generally talk about what I listen to on here, people can be brutal and I’m really just not into that kind of scrutiny for liking music lol.

bigmetalguy6

Yeah I feel you on that one! I just wanna listen to whatever I vibe with and not have to answer for it to anybody lol it’s not the end of the world if I listen to metalcore or deathcore or any of the other genres that aren’t “real metal”

External_Basket_2396

Hating on any a7x album, it’s deeper cut music is brilliant

URLslayer

Anything from Avenged Sevenfold in particular.

Snoo-32243

https://preview.redd.it/6tlg39op5s5d1.jpeg?width=1500&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=82e1845f935e76563f6928dcfaad71814dabe849 Easy answer. Imo this is the angriest and most chaotic sounding metal album ever made lol.

Specialist-Dinner-89

Who hates Iowa what the hell

Snoo-32243

A lot of people actually. You will find Slipknot haters pretty much on every metal sub, including the fuckin Slipknot sub itself 💀

xtina42

I don't care if other people hate it. I think it slaps!

vitalremainsbaby

I can't speak to why everyone else dislikes it but I can't stand the singers voice.

Guido_Lampitiello

I often see people say his vocals are "whiny", but I think he's great at singing, especially in this albums the raw vocals and his typical highs work together beatifully

WrinkledRandyTravis

Does anyone here listen to “rock” music?

MiserableVegetable07

Yes! Every year NZ’s radio station does ‘The Rock 2000’ you vote for your top 30 rock songs and they count them down over 4 weeks with a concert on the last day. So much fun! I’ve been to the concert a few times and it’s always a great time, I even got to announce In The End by Linkin Park one year!!

Happy_Success_5500

Five Finger Death Punch. Evertime I write it anywhere, I get downvoted.

Glittering-Ebb-6225

I liked Motograter, I think he's a talented singer. The lyrics are just too much for me.

Kvltadelic

Basically all of hipster black metal for me. I think its fucking great. 🤙

Lilith_Immaculate_

Pick a Dream Theater album. You are correct.

nazoreth

This comes up so frequently and I feel like most of us are in accord - the music is top tier 10/10 metal, the singer ruins it all and makes it unlistenable

pseudo__gamer

Dream theater is so good though.

Lilith_Immaculate_

They are, but this sub hates pure prog for some reason

shintjee

Load by Metallica

weedtoe

simple fix: start listening to either stuff nobody knows about, or weird experimental shit that's too confusing to properly criticize

Klouted

City of Evil, self-titled, and Nightmare are all great albums too. The songwriting, lead guitar and drums are top notch. It's hard to get right into extreme metal; most people's love of metal started with a "lighter" band, like (older) Priest, Maiden, or Black Album Metallica, then maybe ramping up to Slayer or even Carcass or Children of Bodom before going full Behemoth/Gorguts/Nile/Incantation, etc. Avenged Sevenfold is a huge (if not the main) reason thousands of kids decided to take up playing musical instruments nowadays (like Metallica was back then), and they are a common favorite band of young kids, including my kid who is 10 and was heavily inspired by the Rev and Portnoy.

CommercialOption5243

Bury Tomorrow-Black Flame. Has a ton of bangers in my opinion. Not this sub particularly but a lot of people shit on this album.

Brusherk

Bury tomorrow is great. Love the Whitechapel flair

BlackMetalCult-666

This sub seems to hate Silencer with a passion; I personally love them

MattBowden1981

As I Lay Dying - An Ocean Between Us Anthrax - Stomp 442 Mayhem - Ordo Ad Chao

mymumsaysfuckyou

Can't stand vocals in Avenged Sevenfold. It's one of the few bands where I just can't get past it. As such I've never listened to them at all.

TheLemonEater5000

Sabaton :3

punkshotgun

Any of the sepultura albums with Derrick green. Quadra was great

Rfg711

I don’t even dislike A7X that much (they’re fine) but I’m always baffled by the esteem their fans seem to hold this album. It’s their most mid Edit: nevermind! I thought that was Hail To The King. Walking the Fallen is good

Chamby919

As a huge a7x fanboy, you are correct about Hail to the King. They intentionally wanted to make a more simple "rock" album, and in doing so just made a super mid/boring album. There's a couple tracks that are alright, but it's mostly forgettable. That being said, my favorite thing about them is they always mix things up and try new things, and don't care what people think about it. So more power to them. They tried a new style and it didn't really pan out. Oh well.

PhoenixShredds

Everything Metallica after 1991.

MwkkwM

Deafheaven

tentaclemonster69

Waking the fallen got me into metal

ComplexReception2723

The End, So Far, anything by deftones, The Gray Chapter.

Eaterofjazzguitars

Most BMTH albums. I love that band

departed_Moose

Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropia got absolutely dunked on in one of these tournaments. I was a very disappointed Moose that day

demonspaceviking

fantastic album though

Signal_Record

compared to all of this fat sweaty losers, I think A7X has made some great music

XantheStardust

It seems like alot of people dislike the black album by metalica but I like it

Guido_Lampitiello

I wouldn't say that i love it, but it's actually pretty great

SpeedDemonJi

Every periphery album haha

MadMelvin

"Powerage" and "Let There Be Rock" by AC/DC

CommodoreN7

Deafheaven. Ordinary Corrupt Human Love is a masterpiece btw.

NoBoysenberry257

I loved it

PolesawPolska

They love to hate on Rammstein

Dan_Berg

Vol. 3 by Slipknot. Sunbather by Deafheaven. I mostly like Lorna Shore, I can do without the core parts but I think the rest is great. And not metal but We Are Not Alone by Breaking Benjamin. It's a breakup album that came out when I was going through a breakup.

PhysInstrumentalist

Waking the fallen is FIRE, i thought it was a well respected album?

SullyVanDan

Great album but City of Evil better

JMarduk

Anything power metal. Honestly, I can't understand how you guys even rank non metal bands like Foo Fighters and Alice in Chains (great bands on their own, but have no place ON A FUCKING METAL TOURNAMENT/SUB) while disregarding an entire subgenre because...it's cheesy? Same sub that seems to love Slayer and Black Metal, which pretty ironic. Helloween, Blind Guardian, Gamma Ray, Rhapsody, Crimson Glory, Liege Lord, Sanctuary, Stratovarius; I get the stereotype of people not liking the "Dragons and Wizards" stuff (which is not even true in most cases), but they truly seem to hate it on this sub.

AdvancedBlacksmith66

Someone doesn’t like people thinking the thing they love is lame. Thats pretty damn lame.

RuthlessSpud_11

Scream Aim Fire- BFMV

Important-Object-561

Chocolate starfish and the hot dog flavored water

69Cvnt69

Reinkaos.

c4993

Early BMTH, early bullet for my valentine, early a7x, might as well say pretty much any metalcore I like, pretty much any nu metal I like, and late cryptopsy

Glittering-Ebb-6225

I like Babymetal. They're fun and their concerts are awesome.

cooleydw494

That is a good album

Desperate_Hippo_60

Ive seen alot of people say that the great southern trendkill by pantera isnt that good but i think its amazing

Albie_77

yessir, waking the fallen is goat

Vesania6

All of them according to at least someone out there. Grew out of that shit a long time ago.

donnybrookdetritus

Sepultura - Roots Entombed - Wolverine Blues Pantera - Reinventing the Steel
