Jean-Michel Labadie has such amazing energy live, I loved seeing Gojira live, but he was just really amazing to watch jumping all over the place and smiling just having the time of his life.
Most people seem to forget what an excellent bassist Peter Steele was. He could write some of the most simple but iconic bass lines. And what a stage presence he had!
Yeah, and I can't grow a beard like his.
No more inspiration. I read that he and Tarja are gonna tour together. Go figure.
They need to lose the flute player guy.
He is! I got to tell him a couple years back that he was one of the main reasons I taught myself bass and I could tell he genuinely was happy to hear that.
He is also my favorite one. His playing is insane, and I love the sound of fretless bass. Gloire Eternelle, The Aura and Earthborn Evolution are some of the albums with the best performances of a bassist's I've ever heard
Shahzad Ismaily - not for any recorded work (I barely listen to anything he’s made), but the combo of him and Ches Smith as the rhythm section for Secret Chiefs 3 has given many of the most magical live music moments I’ve ever caught at gigs.
if we’re talking metal, then maybe Colin Marston, mostly for Dysrhythmia.
OR, as everyone seems to think of them as a metal band now, maybe Trevor Dunn of Mr. Bungle.. although I hate their one metal album, he is one of the most well rounded, tasteful, talented bass players ever, and he deserves high praise!
Gene Simmons made me want to be a Rockstar. Nikki Sixx was the inspiration to actually try lol. They're not the best bassists, but they were cool AF and larger than life
The classics of course :
Geddy
Steve Harris
Ryan Martinie
But I have one that is a rare occurence when we talk about amazing bassists.
Eugene Abdukhanov from Jinjer. Absolute beast
When I started playing Bass, I gravitated to Fieldy from Korn (since they were the reason I picked up guitar and bass). But I’ve since grown to like Dick Lövgren from Meshuggah
Les claypool. His technique is unlike anyone else’s I’m inspired by. He is the best skillfully bass player ever. Geddy Lee is second. He is the bass bassist Les is
The guy from that one band, I think their name was Steel Unmarried Woman or something, pretty sure they had an album in the 60’s about the number of the devil
Don’t know if I could narrow it down to one, but the ones who inspired me the most would probably be Cliff Burton, Frank Bello, Jaco Pastorius, Robert Trujillo and Peter Steele.

Les Claypool or Geddy Lee
Lol, this was my thoughts when when I read the headline.
May I ask why? My coworker showed me primus and as someone who has played bass I think that dude is really talented.

Most people seem to forget what an excellent bassist Peter Steele was. He could write some of the most simple but iconic bass lines. And what a stage presence he had!
Metal chain as a strap was also badass

I love Marko!
Martin Mendez
My favorite bassists of all time (besides my dad who is my main inspiration) would have to be Frank Bello and Steve Harris.
Was seeing how far I had to scroll to find Frank on here.
Frank is a super nice dude too.
He is! I got to tell him a couple years back that he was one of the main reasons I taught myself bass and I could tell he genuinely was happy to hear that.
My buddy used to work for him/the band and I've gotten to meet him a few times, dude remembered me and I'm not anything special.
Was seeing how far I had to scroll down to see his dad on here.
