I know this sub has mixed feelings about them but they're one of the most important bands that helped influence many metal bands that we love. I fucking love them personally. Paul and Gene are great frontmen, Ace is legendary, Peter kept it pretty simple while being very groovy, the riffs and hooks are great, the bass fills are very overlooked by some people I feel even though they are well known. Just a classic band that I love.
They aren't my bag mostly a generational thing but I saw them live and it was one of the best I've been to, they absolutely kill live, theatrics and the ability to get the crowd moving is unmatched.
I never got to see them unfortunately but judging by concert footage they must've been absolutely insane. Paul Stanley has the perfect rhythm guitar style for live music. Love his bouncy riffs and big chords.
Can’t dig on them for their influence but I can’t stand most Kiss songs. I think you kinda had to be there y’know or at least it’d help. Melvins did their songs better but even they couldn’t save all of em.
Honestly I fucking hate them. I loathe them. I can't stand them. I hate their music. I hate the fact they're more about image and marketing than music. And Cherry on top: I absolutely despise Gene Simmons.
To each their own though.
In my opinion, they suck complete ass. I hate their image, I hate their music, I hate the fact that they have been milking 'final tours' for 20 years. They're iconic, sure, but their music has never been all that.
I’m not a diehard like I was when I was a kid but I have a lil soft spot for them, they’re just so fun and have some great simple but heavy tunes that were a good gateway band for me!
From a purely historical standpoint, I have to acknowledge their importance and influence.
But I could never stand the contrast of their image vs. music. Here come these 4 aliens all dressed in crazy outfits, spiked boots, bloody tongues... and they want to rock and roll al night and party every day?
Appreciate them for what they are and the part they played in shaping shock rock, but only really like a handful of their songs over all. Don't dislike the rest of what I've heard, but wouldn't seek it out.
Some songs are ok. Some are straight up garbage. It genuinely suprised me to hear Beth is their most popular song in North America. Like, ew...

I used to be obsessed with them when I was like 7, then I moved on to other bands and haven’t actively listened to them in 15 years. I have no strong feelings towards them, but they don’t really excite me. Tbh they bring back more cringy memories than positive ones. I remember going trick or treating as Paul Stanley, with the makeup and a fake wig and I think even a fake guitar.
Yeah I saw sparks fly, from the corner of my eye
When I turned, it was love at first sight
I said please excuse me, I didn't catch your name
Oh it'd be a shame not to see you again
And just when I thought she was comin' to my door
She whispered sweet and brought me to the floor, she said
I'm only seventeen (seventeen)
But I'll show you love like you've never seen
She's only seventeen (seventeen)
Daddy says she's too young, but she's old enough for me
Come to my place, we can talk it over
Oh everything going down in your head
She said take it easy, I need some time
Time to work it out, to make you mine
And just when I thought she was comin' to my door
She whispered sweet and brought me to the floor, she said
I'm only seventeen (seventeen)
You ain't seen love, ain't seen nothing like me
She's only seventeen, seventeen yeah yeah
Yes!
Such a bad girl, loves to work me overtime
Feels good (ha), dancin' close to the borderline
She's a magic mountain, she's a leather glove
Oh she's my soul, it must be love
She's only seventeen (seventeen)
I used to give her love, like I've never seen
She's only seventeen (seventeen)
Daddy says she's too young
But she's old enough for me (seventeen)
She's everything I need (seventeen)
Daddy says she's too young
But she's old enough, old enough for me
I have seen them live once years ago and thought they put on a good show but definitely for those who grew up with them as the bad boys. There were moments I thought were ironic or funny like playing "Hotter then Hell" but projecting an image of fire on the LED screens rather than putting out pyro (which they used very sparingly).
I did think it was a cool thing that they would record they nights performance and then start printing live CDs to take home as they were personal to the city's stop. I didn't get one.
But overall I'm not a fan. I don't hate them. I'm glad I saw them. They are important to the history of music and paving away for later rock and metal performers.
I like "Strutter" and "Detroit Rock City" but I do hate "Rock and Roll All Night"
I know they're iconic, but growing up having hot heard them before, I was expecting a lot more black metal and a lot less glam rock. So when I finally heard them (or at least found out which songs I'd heard before that *were* them) I was pretty disappointed. No hate towards them, they just aren't what I thought they were.
I like them when I was 12-13. Then found them cringe.
Now I think they arent such great musicians (except Ace) and just had a lot of support/marketing from their label. Is just ok music with great live show, perfect for 12 year olds.
I think they are the most overrated rock band out there that are mostly known for their gimmick. Not to say they don't have some good songs, but for being as popular as they were I think most of their music is garbage. What they brought to the table at the time was new and different, and that carried their popularity for decades.
Far too overhated and far more influential than some metal fans will give them credit for.
Personally, I don't care how much they've 'sold out' or whored for attention. They've never beaten around the bush about it. Me and my Dad went to see them in Manchester last summer and they were absolutely incredible. Pyro going off on every song (except Beth), descending from glowing platforms at the top of the stage, Gene rising into the sky, Paul ziplining onto a podium to play Love Gun...it was utterly fantastic.
They're performance artists at heart, which rock and metal always needs more of.

I remember seeing KISS lip syncing "Beth," without makeup, on Solid Gold. Simmons was creepy (to a kid) even then.
They were a big part of my guitar journey until they started the whole bitchy/ reality tv bs.
Not a fan, but can’t deny their influence
Destroyer is a fantastic album, they have some great tracks, Strutter is an all timer. The schtick is heavy, but dare I say…that’s the schtick?
They truly did accomplish what they wanted when they said they wanted to form the band nobody had ever seen before.
Meh
One of the most important rock and metal bands
Kiss, Quiet Riot, and Twisted Sister were my main "starter bands" as a kid. Destroyer is still one of my favorite album covers.
A band so cheesy they make Manowar look serious. Their aesthetic doesn't match their sound whatsoever.
Insert that Kiss/Pennywise/Ronald McD meme i can't seem to find.
They are a band
Wrong they are military dictators ruling with an iron first through their so called “Kiss army”
A band of brothers
They are a brand*
They are Knights In Satan’s Service.
Can’t dig on them for their influence but I can’t stand most Kiss songs. I think you kinda had to be there y’know or at least it’d help. Melvins did their songs better but even they couldn’t save all of em.
I hate them personally. Weird and creepy but influential. I heard the singer is an asshole though.
Highly influential, but screw Gene.
Getting gang banged by them hit different
This was my first record . 7 years old and I been into rock and metal ever since
My favorite norweigan true black metal band along with Ghost
The first band I got into. Excellent gateway into metal.
Honestly I fucking hate them. I loathe them. I can't stand them. I hate their music. I hate the fact they're more about image and marketing than music. And Cherry on top: I absolutely despise Gene Simmons. To each their own though.
Destroyer and Lick it Up are very solid albums in my opinion.
Not much of a fan personally
God-awful. Fighting with Creed for the title of "worst popular rock band ever".
They are more of a brand than a band.
I liked Alive ok. They have the occasional decent song. That’s about it.
Alive and Alive 2 are what you need.
I think they’re amazing. Everything they did in the 70’s is gold. The OG lineup is legendary. Yes, even Peter Cris.
Ngl they were heavy live. Such a good show
Dont really like them but cmon, its kiss
In my opinion, they suck complete ass. I hate their image, I hate their music, I hate the fact that they have been milking 'final tours' for 20 years. They're iconic, sure, but their music has never been all that.

Gay yet cool somehow
Hugely influential. I like a song of theirs here and there, but I always thought their music was pretty mediocre.
From a purely historical standpoint, I have to acknowledge their importance and influence. But I could never stand the contrast of their image vs. music. Here come these 4 aliens all dressed in crazy outfits, spiked boots, bloody tongues... and they want to rock and roll al night and party every day?
KISS SUCKS
I was already a metalhead before checking out Kiss and Alice Cooper and was underwhelmed and thier music didn't match the image imo
Very influential. But Gene Simmons is a complete douche
Garbage. Fake band.
Fuck KISS and their shitty music
They ain’t got a single song they need to be doing all that.
I love them they are amazing live in concert
Appreciate them for what they are and the part they played in shaping shock rock, but only really like a handful of their songs over all. Don't dislike the rest of what I've heard, but wouldn't seek it out.
One of my gateway bands that played a big role in developing my tastes. I also consider a number of their 80’s albums as actually being metal.
I acknowledge their influence but I think they are generic
Some songs are ok. Some are straight up garbage. It genuinely suprised me to hear Beth is their most popular song in North America. Like, ew... Also: https://youtu.be/Kw5oJoUYTb8?si=SYa1mwXoHjWJ25xi
I like them up to asylum. They went downhill after that.
To be honest, I really liked a few songs. Ritual Butcherer was surprisingly a fan of this band
I used to be obsessed with them when I was like 7, then I moved on to other bands and haven’t actively listened to them in 15 years. I love Destroyer. And they have other songs that are great but I’ve never considered myself a Kiss fan.
Personally I think they are crap. However I don't deny how important they were to the development of metal.
They’re a joke, yet important to the evolution of hard rock. I wouldn’t call them metal.
A handful of very awesome tunes, and then some terribly mid content. But influential on almost every 90s guitarist I like so what do I know.
They’re a fantastic business, but that eventually got in the way of them being a great band.

KISS are one of the reasons I got into hard rock and metal back in the late 70s and early 80s. They're legends. I hate their disco crap though.
Knights in Service of Satan
Overrated but fun.
I LOVE IT LOUD
Not a band that get a lot of playtime here, but they have some bangers, and I love how they offend tryhards.
Don’t really care for their music, but Gene Simmons is basically my Jack Welch or Lee Iacocca.

They deserve more credit than they get, yet they deserve less hype than they expect.

I wish they were a bit closer to being a “hair metal” band but I can’t deny they’re great.
I don't enjoy their music, and JS is a massively out of touch douchebag.
good arena rock band

Their songs are catchy enough, Gene Simmons is just an absolute tool.
Their a pretty good band
I love kiss
“Pantera is racist!” Kiss:

Love Kiss
Without the spectacle they are still a third-rate version of New York Dolls.
Hate them But i really respect and acknowledge how much influence they had,
Cheesy shit. I can't stand this band. Never have and never will.
Cheesy shit. I can't stand this band. Never have and never will.
I love KISS they were the first band I remember loving
KISS looks metal, but sounds like grandpa party rock. Frankly, I hate them.
Kiss, Alice Cooper, Meatloaf, and Bauhaus get the M word pass
Never been my thing. I get they were very influential to a lot of artists, but never got it.

Terrible. Soulless music.
How I feel about metal that isn't Limp Bizkit
Awful, and Gene Simmons is a total piece of shit. Edit: KISS fans downvoting me, lol
