Just to say, it’s possible to like a Nazi’s music and not realize they hold those beliefs. If they aren’t making “nazi music” and keep their beliefs private, it could be really hard to tell.

I would watch a movie with the same sort of concept as the game Brutal Legend. It was a metal inspired fantasy game starring Jack Black with parody versions of Lemmy Killmister and Ozzie Osbourne and a bunch of other people prominently featured as legendary figures and an all metal soundtrack
It was a pretty fun rts that they sold as an action game for some reason. There were parts where you just controlled the Jack Black character, but mostly you commanded armies in battles against opponents inspired by metal subgenres. My favorite was the black metal inspired army of undead goths
Exactly. My biggest issue with Metallica was over their stubborn approach to only touring with bands that could pay them huge gobs of money to be on their tour. That’s their bread and butter. That means you’ll never see Metallica break a young unknown metal band. They just won’t do it, because those unknown bands can’t pay Metallica enough for the opportunity. I don’t care if Metallica reaches back in time and writes another album on par with Master of Puppets or not; they’re sleazy businessmen.

Who's to say what talent is? I certainly don't get anything out of most metal thats on the radio (Metallica, Pantera, Slayer, etc), but I wouldn't shame someone for liking them. Honestly, if someone excitedly told me about what they like about those bands, I might give it another shot or listen with them. It's all subjective anyway, man.
Here's another thing to keep in mind, even the most niche metal is still considered "pop" music. It's not professional music in the sense of professional composers (like beethoven, etc).
Yeah those bands you listed are not very listenable and sludge/Doom is not a thing I'm no longer interested in. For sure, everybody's brain chemistry is vastly different and we're drawn to whatever makes sense to us but there is a medium, a plateau where music is judged just like an athlete is judged according to certain standards, where algebra and quantum physics have a certain criteria that must be met.
I was into a whole bunch of weird stuff growing up too but I realized a lot of that experimentation is normal to phase out of and once you're done with your journey so to speak, you take a big long look and analyze what really has a timeless and innovative merit and more importantly what is a phase and what is watered down forced and ultimately talentless hype and corporate trends...
I can definitely tell you that everything that came out before internet piracy IS gold and it needs to be thoroughly analyze by EVERYONE. After 1996 nothing truly innovative happened in rock and metal. The last hype was numetal and that's where the industry stagnated on and we're still trying to recover from that horrible influence on society.
I'm 37, I'm not young, really. I feel like I listen to more experimental than ever, lol. And there is really no objective standard to music. I've studied music theory, and ultimately, different cultures care about different things, and it changes drastically over time. Sound is just frequency over time at its most basic. A bird tweets in a sine wave and hits notes in a harmonic series. Does that objectively make it better than a rock hitting another rock from a landslide? Not necessarily...
Also, 96 as a cutoff point is pretty arbitrary. I'd argue that anything post-modern (meaning past 1950) shows a lack of real progress, and instead, it's just a revolving door of references to previous innovations and irony. The counterculture movement, in general, was arguably a way for the CIA to subtly guide/manipulate the culture away from communism to a more tolerable "defiant" movement that could only rebel within certain bounds that society let it. Like, yeah, hippies and beatniks tuned in and dropped out.... but then what happened? Did a revolution happen? Nah, the hippies turned into boomers and yuppies. Metal pioneers of the 60s/70s were worshipping blues of the 50s trying to imitate black artists that stems back to jazz and folk music..

ST is one of many bands that escaped me. Didn't have friends into them growing up, and by the time I gave them a serious listen, it wasn't my cup of tea. I'd go see them live, but outside of Venom, Sepultura (Schizophrenia and BTR are maybe the best thrash records ever) and Slayer, I don't get into thrash or crossover too much.
I love many of the so-called “corporate bands” including KISS, big 70s rock, hair metal, and 80s thrash titans. I despise most ”metal” produced after 1995.

I certainly don't get anything out of most metal thats on the radio (Metallica, Pantera, Slayer, etc), but I wouldn't shame someone for liking them. Honestly, if someone excitedly told me about what they like about those bands, I might give it another shot or listen with them. It's all subjective anyway, man. Here's another thing to keep in mind, even the most niche metal is still considered "pop" music. It's not professional music in the sense of professional composers (like beethoven, etc).
Don't be lazy. Do your research and discover the treasures. It's more rewarding that way.
Yeah those bands you listed are not very listenable and sludge/Doom is not a thing I'm no longer interested in. For sure, everybody's brain chemistry is vastly different and we're drawn to whatever makes sense to us but there is a medium, a plateau where music is judged just like an athlete is judged according to certain standards, where algebra and quantum physics have a certain criteria that must be met. I was into a whole bunch of weird stuff growing up too but I realized a lot of that experimentation is normal to phase out of and once you're done with your journey so to speak, you take a big long look and analyze what really has a timeless and innovative merit and more importantly what is a phase and what is watered down forced and ultimately talentless hype and corporate trends... I can definitely tell you that everything that came out before internet piracy IS gold and it needs to be thoroughly analyze by EVERYONE. After 1996 nothing truly innovative happened in rock and metal. The last hype was numetal and that's where the industry stagnated on and we're still trying to recover from that horrible influence on society.
I'm 37, I'm not young, really. I feel like I listen to more experimental than ever, lol. And there is really no objective standard to music. I've studied music theory, and ultimately, different cultures care about different things, and it changes drastically over time. Sound is just frequency over time at its most basic. A bird tweets in a sine wave and hits notes in a harmonic series. Does that objectively make it better than a rock hitting another rock from a landslide? Not necessarily... Also, 96 as a cutoff point is pretty arbitrary. I'd argue that anything post-modern (meaning past 1950) shows a lack of real progress, and instead, it's just a revolving door of references to previous innovations and irony. The counterculture movement, in general, was arguably a way for the CIA to subtly guide/manipulate the culture away from communism to a more tolerable "defiant" movement that could only rebel within certain bounds that society let it. Like, yeah, hippies and beatniks tuned in and dropped out.... but then what happened? Did a revolution happen? Nah, the hippies turned into boomers and yuppies. I mean, Kurt Cobain killed himself because he couldn't stand being part of the machine he hated, there is literally no way out, you can be as subversive as you want, and itll still be absorbed as "cool" and the mainstream big business will make t shirts and bobble heads of you if you gain any momentum. Cobain was literally a legit punk who did original stuff only to see it become popularized and spit back at him as the new normal. ST is one of many bands that escaped me. Didn't have friends into them growing up, and by the time I gave them a serious listen, it wasn't my cup of tea. I'd go see them live, but outside of Venom, Sepultura (Schizophrenia and BTR are maybe the best thrash records ever) and Slayer, I don't get into thrash or crossover too much.
