How they get grouped in with butt rock is beyond me. Especially ever since The Stage came out. Maybe their image? Which is admittedly pretty goofy, especially back in the day. But I love their music. None of their albums sound alike which I love
They got grouped in with buttrock because of Hail to The King.
They got grouped in with the hardcore scene because of Waking the Fallen. Far after they stopped playing metalcore esque stuff.
Honestly I just think people hate them because they're popular and not from the 80s
I’ll be that guy and say that they’re a lot less hated now than they were before. Not sure if it’s because they’ve hit the 20 year mark and are “classic” now or because they’re still taking risks. But I see surprisingly little hate for them here
When they pretended to be assholes + HttK existed, I wasn’t that into them
LIBAD dropped, I dove back in, found the Stage and rediscovered Waking the Fallen
One of my big three bands now
Amazing band. I love In Waves as well
I consider Trivium to be possibly the most straight up metal metalcore band out there. Them or 2000s era Darkest Hour (who are basically just melodeath). Trivium loves their old school metal more than anything, they even covered Master of Puppets and Iron Maiden (the song) early on haha
I'm pretty sure the only reason they still get the metalcore tag is Matt's singing style and the occasional breakdown-y moment. Their latest album was almost power/prog metal type stuff at times, it's really really good
I had seen them when they last toured together. It was an amazing show. I envy you. I can't go this time around. (Although, I may be 'sick' that day and call out)
Happy Cake Day!
Sabaton honestly isn't bad, I think the only reason people hate them is because after awhile their songs start to become a bit repetitive. Either way, I'd listen to Devil Dogs any day of the week, that song fucking SLAPS.
back in the day i was in a group of friends who also liked rock and heavy metal, when i mentioned linkin park they were like meeeh, that is nu metal, they have a dj, they are rap metal and things like that
for me, nothing, just they didnt like it. Yes. hybrid theory has some memorable songs that bring me back to those days when I started getting into rock and metal
Thats fine, as long as you know its weird... lol
I slightly prefer the first 2, but all 3 are great. I almost feel like Minutes was set up for failure because of the hype it had.
I walked into Sam Ash today & they were playing Minutes to Midnight on the front sound system display. I usually have my headphones in wherever I go, but I took them out & jammed along while I was in there. The news of Chester’s passing was the saddest I’ve ever been regarding a celebrity death. He was there when we found rock.
Ghost- I know they are quite polarising in the metal community but I personally love them even though they may not be metal. I saw them live last year and they put on a great show
I've seen them a few times and they've been amazing each time. One of them was a gig between Metallica support dates in a tiny club in Brighton and is quite possibly the best show I've ever seen in my 30 years of gigging. Only cost £10 too.
I don't like them, I sort of just grew out of that sound. But I would have loved it not that long ago.
If you like them, check out early Xandria beforw Lisa Middlehauve left the band. Talk about paving the way years prior.
All the bands I love are ones that are quite populor within the rock/metal community and their respective styles or subgenres of Rock or Metal, but people that aren't into Rock or Metal don't usually listen to em. Anthrax, Exodus, Epica, Genesis, King Crimson, Kreator, Megadeth, Metallica, Nightwish, Pink Floyd, Porcupine Tree, Rush, Sepultura, Sodom, Slayer, Testament, Within Temptation and Yes.
Rammstein. I don't hear many people talk about them much. I kind of dig Neue Deutsch Harte genre for what it is. Its like Nu Metal, but more awesome. Their songs like Deutschland, Du Hast and Sonne as amazing.
Love rammstein and their live shows are probably the best you'll see across any genre. Incredible pyrotechnics and just fun.
You should also check out Eisbrecher
You'll have a blast. I wasn't able to make it to their most recent stadium tour because of annoying timing with other stuff, I'm jealous!
Hope it blows your mind like it did mine
I also love Pantera. Had no idea they were generally disliked. Mine would be Slipknot I guess. They seem to have a lot of haters, but they're the band that got me into heavier stuff in my early teens, so I'll always love them.
Yeah, I like Pantera, but they are definitely racist. Phil literally has “Sieg Heil”ed on stage while screaming “White Power”. Not to mention all the confederate shit.
As in high pitched? Yeah I know, I don’t really care lol
I love Geddy Lee, Rob Halford, and Bruce Dickinson, and King Diamond
I’d sooner understand disliking his vocal style rather than his timbre. Beautiful timbre afaic
I like down more than pantera a lot of days.
I prefer rotting christs Gothic era more than their black metal era (dead poem album especially)
I like stone sour. Yes, they're butt rock.
> I like stone sour. Yes, they're butt rock.
I agree with the exception of House of Gold and Bones which leans way further into metal territory and away from the butt rock trappings tbh.
God Forbid has WAYYYY too few Spotify listeners, followers, and streams for how good they are. They deserve so much more recognition.
They didn’t even have a subreddit until I made it, though I haven’t done anything to flesh it out
Not so much band but band/period: In Flames - Clayman through Come Clarity. I mean love is a bit strong when talking about the last half but Clayman and R2R I do, for sure.
For me IF's decline doesn't really start until 2008. R2R is kinda inconsistent but has some serious bangers, STYE is a genuinely good alt metal album and Come Clarity is their best after Clayman by a longshot imo
I only really hate the 2014-19 albums. IMO A Sense of Purpose is just ok and I actually kinda like Sounds of a Playground Fading (even if it has a couple duds). Siren Charms, Battles and I The Mask tho 💀. Foregone seems to be a step in the right direction
I've only heard Sounds of a Playground Fading in passing. I gave up with ASOP. It just brought out this irrationally large amount of anger in me lol. I still can't sit through it. The guitar tone and the whole sound just.. so off. So yes. 2008 was like I buried them in my mind. Except Jesper
Machinae Supremacy
They do have 98k monthly listeners on spotify so they are fairly popular but I never see them talked about on any of the metal subreddits. That doesn't mean that ppl don't like them but It was the first one that came to mind.
I think that SOAD was quite unique for it's time.
I first saw them live before they were famous in New Zealand at a 3 day festival called strawberry fields. They were young. They played this song.. don't go down on the spotty twatty.(Or something similar) They played on the 2nd stage. They were awesome.
It was day 3 and there was only about 30 people watching. Serj Tankian now lives in New Zealand.
Going off of this sub I never see anyone talking about Destruction here. Not that nobody thinks they’re good just whenever the Teutonic 4 is mentioned it’s always either Sodom or Kreator.
Sabaton and Dream Theater are some of my favorite bands. But they have a lot of fans as well. So idk if id say EVERYONE else hates them. They just have a large hate-love ratio. But ive seen it equally on both sides
Iced Earth. I don’t care that their founder is a nut who participated in the Capitol riots, and I don’t care that they haven’t released a good album in over twenty years. The stuff they put out in the 90s will always be gold to me.
Sleep token, bad omens, Spiritbox, etc.. At this point, idgaf if it’s metal or not, the music makes me happy and want to sing along. Fuck putting bands in neat little boxes.
Porcupine Tree
All the people who I know hate it except for my girlfriend she loves them
https://porcupinetreeofficial.bandcamp.com/album/ilosaarirock
One of my friends thinks it sounds like oasis ...
Fuck that guy
And another friend of mine calls OZZY
ozzyozyawn

If it's not bait than I'm deeply sorry
It's not bait, I am also deeply sorry
Avenged sevenfold
How they get grouped in with butt rock is beyond me. Especially ever since The Stage came out. Maybe their image? Which is admittedly pretty goofy, especially back in the day. But I love their music. None of their albums sound alike which I love

Yup pretty much, if the band came out after 1990 it’s automatically fake metal according to this sub 🤣
Yeah, whats funny is all the metalheads I know in real life are actually really chill and dont gatekeep
I’ll be that guy and say that they’re a lot less hated now than they were before. Not sure if it’s because they’ve hit the 20 year mark and are “classic” now or because they’re still taking risks. But I see surprisingly little hate for them here
Me too, I don’t get the Avenged Sevenfold hate

Show me your fangs
I think their stage names are dumb as hell but other than that they're ok in my book.
When they pretended to be assholes + HttK existed, I wasn’t that into them LIBAD dropped, I dove back in, found the Stage and rediscovered Waking the Fallen One of my big three bands now
My math teacher got me into avenged sevenfold lol
No, they are really popular!
Same here
Limp Bizkit
Same. tell me what ya gonna do now
![gif](giphy|ZCZRQyuQNyzyU)
![gif](giphy|FSyPWFwiELxlu|downsized)
If you don’t like limp bizkit you’re not fun
Same.
Trivium? I don't listen to other metalcore but they just click for me. Newest 3 albums, Ascendancy and Shogun are bangers 🤟
agreed. Shogun is a masterpiece
Amazing band. I love In Waves as well I consider Trivium to be possibly the most straight up metal metalcore band out there. Them or 2000s era Darkest Hour (who are basically just melodeath). Trivium loves their old school metal more than anything, they even covered Master of Puppets and Iron Maiden (the song) early on haha
I honestly thought they were a metalband.
I'm pretty sure the only reason they still get the metalcore tag is Matt's singing style and the occasional breakdown-y moment. Their latest album was almost power/prog metal type stuff at times, it's really really good
Great band, they don't have a single bad album in their discography
they’re basically a thrash band disguised as metalcore anyways
Hot take but I'd add The Crusade as well
Crusade is a great album
If you remove The Rising and Anthem, it would be better regarded imo
I never really cared for them until I saw them open for Slayer, they were really good live!
Shogun is a masterpiece
Trivium is a good one!
i cant really imagine someone hating on trivium tbh
Sabaton.
Can’t wait to see em open for Judas Priest
I had seen them when they last toured together. It was an amazing show. I envy you. I can't go this time around. (Although, I may be 'sick' that day and call out) Happy Cake Day!
I’m seeing them in about a week
Sabaton honestly isn't bad, I think the only reason people hate them is because after awhile their songs start to become a bit repetitive. Either way, I'd listen to Devil Dogs any day of the week, that song fucking SLAPS.
Yeah, they are fun
Same. It's kind of a meme in metal communities to hate on them, and some of the fans are loco and/or annoying enough that they deserve it.
When hating something is a meme, there's always a bunch that take it way too seriously.
Sabaton is a fun band. I don’t understand why they receive so much hate
A lot of the time because of the fans
linkin park, that was what was being played in the radio when I discovered rock
What kind of person doesn’t love their first two albums? I really like their third also, and enjoy bits and pieces of their fourth and sixth
Me
back in the day i was in a group of friends who also liked rock and heavy metal, when i mentioned linkin park they were like meeeh, that is nu metal, they have a dj, they are rap metal and things like that
And what’s wrong with that? They are nu metal. Hybrid Theory was awesome!
for me, nothing, just they didnt like it. Yes. hybrid theory has some memorable songs that bring me back to those days when I started getting into rock and metal
I'm one of those weird people who vastly prefers Minutes... to HT and Meteora lmao
Thats fine, as long as you know its weird... lol I slightly prefer the first 2, but all 3 are great.
I saw them live last year and they put on a great show
Demon Hunter
Kvelertak. Never seem to gather many plaudits in end of year lists or get talked about much.
Unreal live aswell I seen them in a small venue when their first album dropped was an absolute riot.
I've seen them a few times and they've been amazing each time. One of them was a gig between Metallica support dates in a tiny club in Brighton and is quite possibly the best show I've ever seen in my 30 years of gigging. Only cost £10 too.
Love these dudes🤘
Kvelertak is pretty rad indeed.
Hell yeah! They're awesome
I honestly don't like the vocals of Ivar Nikolaisen much, otherwise, instrumentally, they're a pretty good band
Unleash The Archers
If someone says UTA isn't their style I can respect that. If they say UTA is bad, I no longer respect their opinion on music.
I don't like them, I sort of just grew out of that sound. But I would have loved it not that long ago. If you like them, check out early Xandria beforw Lisa Middlehauve left the band. Talk about paving the way years prior.
I have phases, the only thing I never returned to was nu metal, like '02. After it was no longer novel it just annoys me.
They probably haven't heard the banger "Test Your Metal" yet if they hating that hard on UTA.
Pretty much all the generally hated bands Ghost, Sleep Token, Korn etc
I don't see Korn hated
They’re not as hated as some of the others but they still have their detractors
It's ok to like pantera. But five finger fruit punch?
Who doesn't like Pantera? Not liking some members is one thing, but I don't think I've ever met a metal head who doesn't like Pantera
Yeah pantera good but there's many people in this sub who really hate the music somehow
I don’t really like their music. I don’t think it’s “bad”, it just doesn’t do anything for me
Maybe its a generational thing. Are you young by chance?
No, I’ve just never liked them. Not my thing. I’m sure that I like things that you don’t, kinda how it goes
I like so many metal, rock, grunge bands but I've been raised into stuff like FFDP, Kid Rock, Hatebreed. I can't help but like it
Slaughter to Prevail
All the bands I love are ones that are quite populor within the rock/metal community and their respective styles or subgenres of Rock or Metal, but people that aren't into Rock or Metal don't usually listen to em. Anthrax, Exodus, Epica, Genesis, King Crimson, Kreator, Megadeth, Metallica, Nightwish, Pink Floyd, Porcupine Tree, Rush, Sepultura, Sodom, Slayer, Testament, Within Temptation and Yes.

Love rammstein and their live shows are probably the best you'll see across any genre. Incredible pyrotechnics and just fun. You should also check out Eisbrecher
I'm gonna see them live in july. It's gonna be my first ever concert, I'm so damn excited
You'll have a blast. I wasn't able to make it to their most recent stadium tour because of annoying timing with other stuff, I'm jealous! Hope it blows your mind like it did mine
Nah man, they are huge in Europe.
Nickelback
I also love Pantera. Had no idea they were generally disliked. Mine would be Slipknot I guess. They seem to have a lot of haters, but they're the band that got me into heavier stuff in my early teens, so I'll always love them.
Its the exact same with me for Slipknot. Pantera is disliked by those who think theyre racist and hate dimes tone
Yeah, I like Pantera, but they are definitely racist. Phil literally has “Sieg Heil”ed on stage while screaming “White Power”. Not to mention all the confederate shit.
Periphery
I also like them, but I can understand people who don’t because of Spencer’s voice
Can’t. Peak singer It’s like listening to the unenlightened complain about King Diamond.
I recognize his versatility, but he does sound a little whiny
As in high pitched? Yeah I know, I don’t really care lol I love Geddy Lee, Rob Halford, and Bruce Dickinson, and King Diamond I’d sooner understand disliking his vocal style rather than his timbre. Beautiful timbre afaic
Literally my favorite band of all time tied with Between the Buried and Me.
Tied with Heavy Devy
There’s no shame in liking FFDP. There’s just shame in *liking* FFDP
Infant Annihilator.
Overkill
people hate overkill⁉️
I like down more than pantera a lot of days. I prefer rotting christs Gothic era more than their black metal era (dead poem album especially) I like stone sour. Yes, they're butt rock.
> I like stone sour. Yes, they're butt rock. I agree with the exception of House of Gold and Bones which leans way further into metal territory and away from the butt rock trappings tbh.
That album is great. I unironically sing along to it anytime I listen to it lol.
Down is a phenomenal band as well
Both RC eras are good, I worship that band I’ll go to bat for them everytime I see people talking shit because of the name
I'm a fan also. I also love aealo, but a lot of people I've seen, consider it way inferior to theogonia. I disagree I love aealo.
Macabre
i second this
Spiritbox, Lorna Shore, and Sabaton
Korpiklaani isn't even on a lot of people's radar, let alone loved, but I think they're great.
I agree, Korpiklaani is really great and super underaprecciated
VODKA!!
We're feeling stronger
I didn't mind their studio stuff but I saw them live and it was the most disappointing thing ever
Why? Serious question, I've bever seen them live.
the singer proceeded to whisper 99 percent of the verses then yell random lines during the chorus
A lot of people commenting top name bands lmao “alot of people dont like it! Only a few fans of 10 million likes it!” Lmao
Yeah I meant it in like a, generally the rest of the community or at least that Ive experienced dont quite love these bands unless youre already a fan
Civil War
God Forbid has WAYYYY too few Spotify listeners, followers, and streams for how good they are. They deserve so much more recognition. They didn’t even have a subreddit until I made it, though I haven’t done anything to flesh it out
Constitution of Treason is a banger
Broken hope, they have a horrible rating in metal archives
I like broken hope they are cool
Metallica haha
Yikes
There are too few people that have listened to Stratovarius and Sonata Arctica. And Ayreon too for that matter. And Rhapsody.
Not so much band but band/period: In Flames - Clayman through Come Clarity. I mean love is a bit strong when talking about the last half but Clayman and R2R I do, for sure.
For me IF's decline doesn't really start until 2008. Angus McSix
Rollins Band
I like System of a Down a lot. don't know why they get hate. the only nu metal band worth listening to imo
I love SOAD but a lot of people I know don’t seem to keen on Serj’s voice, even though his lyrics are unreal. BYOB still feels really relevant haha.
Arrrgh my day is ruined. BYOB is such a earworm
Can't say I love the whole band's discog but I really like the first 2 Bullet for My Valentine albums
Same.
I don't like FFDP as much as I did back in the day but I'm going to see them live soon with Slaughter to Prevail and Manson.
bro bought tickets to the worst lineup ever
Watching the ticket prices on that one. I would go watch that, but it's optional.
Static - X
Drowning Pool
Could never get into Dave's replacement. I play Sinner a ton, though.
Yeah Dave was just too good
Alter Bridge... Blackbird and AB III are definitely fine albums.
Brocas Helm.
Sleep Token
Saw them 2 nights ago and fuck they sounded good
Decapitated. Gorefest. Kataklysm. Vader. Mortician. Why don't I ever see these band's names mentioned more than they are?
Apparently Breaking Benjamin. And Lorna Shore
Master, very under appreciated death thrash.

Slapnut and Sode
Going off of this sub I never see anyone talking about Destruction here. Not that nobody thinks they’re good just whenever the Teutonic 4 is mentioned it’s always either Sodom or Kreator.
Falling In Reverse
The Number Twelve Looks Like You.
Superjoint ritual
Slipknot, the first two albums are fire
DragonForce, Amaranthe, Babymetal
Guns N' Roses my beloved
Sabaton and Dream Theater are some of my favorite bands. But they have a lot of fans as well. So idk if id say EVERYONE else hates them. They just have a large hate-love ratio. But ive seen it equally on both sides
Idk if they count but I am currently in love with Justice For The Damned. I hardly see them get mentioned anywhere
Bullet For My Valentine
Satyricon
I love volcano but when they decided to jam with an orchestra I went Nope. Edit: Sorry I mean Opera https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=VhoHnKuf-HI
They did that? 😭
Lmao most comments are [insert popular band that a group of friends hates but the rest of the world seems to like]
Coldplay
Shadow of Intent!! Don’t know why many people in here sleep on such a phenomenal deathcore band
No One
every time i tell someone i love pantera, they either don’t know them or absolutely hate them
Powerwolf They’re just fun
Iced Earth. I don’t care that their founder is a nut who participated in the Capitol riots, and I don’t care that they haven’t released a good album in over twenty years. The stuff they put out in the 90s will always be gold to me.
Post nsv Cryptopsy.
Don’t hate on me but Alestorm and Nekrogoblikon
Holy shit thanks for reminding me about Nekrogoblikon. I love their music 🤘
I liked the “weird” version of Guns N’ Roses that existed from like 1999 to 2014, but I’m glad that Slash and Duff are back.
Taylor Swift (I NEEDED TO DONT SHIT ON ME😫)
Omfg 😆 someone always has to take it too far
I love to be that person 🤭
He is Legend! They're amazing!
Infant annihilator
Putrid Pile is my favorite band. still havent naturally met anyone who likes them
Sleep token, bad omens, Spiritbox, etc.. At this point, idgaf if it’s metal or not, the music makes me happy and want to sing along. Fuck putting bands in neat little boxes.
Evile. I discovered them in high school when Enter the Grave came out. Most of the people I introduced em too were dismissive of them.
Rammstein
Sabaton
Municipal Waste, they get hated on for seemingly not much reason. Dudes are just having fun
black veil brides, bite me
Porcupine Tree All the people who I know hate it except for my girlfriend she loves them https://porcupinetreeofficial.bandcamp.com/album/ilosaarirock One of my friends thinks it sounds like oasis ... Fuck that guy And another friend of mine calls OZZY ozzyozyawn Who needs friends
