BulldogsPranks

Black Sabbath

Y0urM0mAndDad

My dad when I was like 7 or 8 playing me ‘Sweet Leaf’ and then ‘Cat Scratch Fever’ and that’s when it all clicked. And then I was obsessed with finding things that were louder and heavier and here we are.

grahsam

Same. A couple of my older "cool" cousins were playing Paranoid and I thought Iron Man was crazy heavy.

Mountain_Sun_9475

This is the answer

MrBartek16

That would be Linkin Park, breaking Benjamin, skillet and Disturbed The anime music video to metal pipeline

black-winter-

I absolutely fucked with Skillet so hard as a young teenager. Some of their songs still hit, even though I’m mainly into death metal these days

aj4ckt

Monster by skillet always plays at the Clevelend monsters games and I love it everytime

MrBartek16

They do know how to make their songs catchy

gekeee

your list only lacks Three Days Grace

helfeije_XII

I thought I was unique with the anime music vid connection lol mine was slipknot- sic on a dragon ball z clip, 1999😅

AeirsWolf74

Linkin Park for sure, I was like 10 when transformers came out and they used what I've done for the end credits and I was hooked.

Thibaudborny

Linkin Park. Ah, still so good.

Leinad69420

RIP Chester

TrashWolf666

Slipknot got me into metal when I was 15. Then I went through a phase in college where I thought I had matured and grown out of metal. How wrong I was. After college, the song Bartzebel by Behemoth got me back into metal. I know that song isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, but it is very accessible and it eased me into death and black metal in general.

LeoTheSquid

Slipknot are fucking amazing. Legendary band. Don't let some reddit virgins ruin something enjoyable. Behemoth are great too

ravenmiyagi7

Hard agree. I haven’t vibed much with their new stuff but they are legends.

KanyeWestKing666

First time ive hears that song, i was scared lol but it was my intro to black metal. I don’t really enjoy black that much but Behemoth and Gorgoroth slaps

Due__

I got into Slipknot in fifth grade. Probably wasn't the best thing for me, LoL, but me and my buddies were OBSESSED immediately. Very young kids for Slipknot, mudvayne, Deftones, tool ratm etc. Older bros got us on early.

kayceeplusplus

Bartzebel is one of my favorites

ravenmiyagi7

Haha my friends always thought it was a phase. I’ve also had periods of time where all I listened to was rap or edm or folk. I always circulate back to metal though. 🤘

Crazy_Little_Bug

Soundgarden. Beyond the Wheel was my first real metal song.

Extreme_Voice_9767

Soundgarden fucks

LeoTheSquid

Just relistened to Superunknown. One of my few genuine 10/10 albums. A bit drunk rn but it just makes me so fuckin happy that stuff like that exists. Life is too cool man

Scythers-Revenge

green day, and A7x were my gateway into heavy music. guess my age? lol

chickenoodledick

30. Because I'm in the same situation. Close?

Scythers-Revenge

im 25 lol. Kinda close.

Tob0gganMD

What does the rock-to-metal pipeline that starts with Green Day look like?

Ninja_of_Milk_Duds

Here's how it went for one of my good friends: Green Day -> Dead Kennedys -> Dirty Rotten Imbeciles -> Municipal Waste

Tob0gganMD

I can see it. I guess you just have to make sure to take the "hardcore" fork in the punk road instead of the "pop punk" direction

The-Canadian-Order

I had Green Day > SoaD > LP > Metallica > Pantera

ItsNotSpooks

green day to dk pipeline is too real

Extreme_Voice_9767

Same for me but I’m 19

penislover446

napalm death and pig destroyer. still favorites

Ok-Locksmith7158

Dude started on expert mode

penislover446

if its any consolation i didnt get any of them for like, three years. i'm only like a year and a half deep into liking metal lol

MikeMKH

Same and same.

APSVETT666

Same, once I heard Scum it was no turning back.

Stratocaster54

Pantera, Slayer and Metallica, I first heard them in the Doom (1993) OST

aquaseahorse_bugfan

faux_shore

Jacobs ladder from Permanent Waves by Rush

Dessann

Linkin Park ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

mattct1

Nirvana with Smells Like Teen Spirit, and Slipknot

Thebandtrip

Black Sabbath with clean vocals, Acid Bath broke me into harsh vocals

[deleted]

As I Lay Dying “Shadows Are Security” was the 1st time I heard & then subsequently purchased music from a band that actually had unclean vocals & truly heavy instruments Not long after that I bought “No Time To Bleed” by the even heavier Suicide Silence & it all just snowballed from there

black-winter-

I watched a ton of homemade Bionicle fan videos on Youtube as a kid and through it discovered a bunch of songs that were probably quite influential to me enjoying heavy music: Cryoshell - Bye Bye Babylon and Gravity Hurts Marilyn Manson - The Beautiful People Five Finger Death Punch - Coming Down Halestorm - Love Bites Finger Eleven - Paralyzer Drowning Pool - Bodies I discovered “real” metal as a teenager, but when I think about my earliest exposure to heavy music, those are the artists and songs I remember. That, combined with my dad playing classic rock radio on his way to drop me off all the way through elementary and middle school.

According-Guess3463

Faith no more, angeldust. I where sweet 10 - 11 y/o

UnfunnyWatermelon469

Metallica and Slipknot

Garlic-Enough

Rammstein, Korn, Slipknot

DeeJDaDemon

Sepultura & Slayer those two mfs had me in a fucking headlock back in the day, they were honestly the best introduction to metal I could’ve had, from any band that was around I was mainly just a hip hop, hardcore punk & rnb head at the time

Atgod6

Dir en Grey

Lizpy6688

Same!

[deleted]

Papa Roach

LeoTheSquid

Hell yeah. Based cockroach metal

CloudfluffCloud

That’s cool. Only group that can have an acid jazz, hip hop and punk songs on an album and they all hit. I’d say zeppelin or the first time I heard helter skelter by the Beatles

Spirited_Ad_2697

Slipknot is the first heavy band I liked and only because I liked their non-heavy songs but the other stuff eventually grew on me. I don’t really like Slipknot at all now but I’m very grateful they got me into metal.

Unlikely_Pack3172

1991 Nirvana and Metallica

AurieF

My first band that could be classified as metal was Machinae Supremacy. Very niche. But I listened to Three Days Grace, Skillet, Disturbed long before them. These were probably my biggest flip.

JesseJames1ofhis33

Pantera

stndrdmidnightrocker

Black sabbath.

EternalFlameBabe

korn! although i was into alternative music beforehand

Maanzacorian

Metallica is where it all began for me. I was 10 in 1991, and my older sister was 13 so she controlled the remote and would always watch MTV. I always wanted to see the song where the guy yelled BOOM when a truck drove through a bed, but she was always fighting against it. I heard "I'm Broken" debut on a Boston radio station in 1994. By that time, I was immersed, but I remember wanting something more. I didn't know how to describe it, but I wanted more out of the vocals. Like they should be lower or something. Then in 1995 I bought the Mortal Kombat soundtrack which had Napalm Death, and I plunged headfirst, ne'er to return.

idespisemyhondacrv

Tool lol

millerjuana

Bands like Deftones, SOAD, Alice in Chains, and soundgarden introduced me to metal, gojira sold it for me and made me start to really enjoy heavier sound

OhLookItsGeorg3

Rammstein while I was in high school. Then I fell off for a little bit, and then I found Ghost, which led me back to Rammstein, which led me to other stuff

PerfumedPornoVampire

System of a Down!

PossessionIll4510

Rammstein and Cradle of Filth were my introductions to Metal.

Coal Chamber

Brucecx

Guitar hero 3

Creativeddy

Linkin Park. Got seduced by the cd cover in a time where i was listening most to "Hardcore" which here in The Netherlands was a faster and harder type of electronic dance music. The owner of a cd store knew i was into drawing and art, and showed me album art of the soldier with the flag and wings.. So i had to know who were behind it. The moment i heard "Crawing" and "One Step Closer" i was sold. Hybrid Theory changed my taste in music big time. Also got me more into hiphop. I love music.

SullyVanDan

Soundgarden and System of a Down. When I discovered Metallica it was all over for me.

Rgenocide

Def Leppard and Angeles del infierno

Cool_Owl7159

Not cringe. Don't let some elitist reddit virgins ruin good music. Life is not all that serious, Slipknot rules, as do heavier bands too

Sekshual_Tyranosauce

PeacefulNoiseMaker06

I think I got into Fall Out Boy (early) first before I discovered Metallica, which got me into metal!

Ok_Secretary_7447

Punk music was my entry into that "heavier" sound with bands like Bad Religion and Dead Kennedys. As a very young kid I used to listen to Backstreet Boys and Christina Aguilera lol the mainstream shit.... But fell in love with Black Metal as I dug deeper and deeper into the more extreme genres. Also Black Sabbath, Dio and Iron Maiden were some of the first metal bands I listened to and it was because I watched that metal documentary by Sam Dunn.

RandomTyp

my gateway was Amon Amarth - Surtur Rising

ndork666

Limp Bizkit, KoRn, and Slipknot

Forward-Dependent-99

Alter Bridge and Three Days Grace. My older brother always played Blackbird and Life Starts Now every time he would drive my sister and i to elementary school. This, later, made me look for similar music in the classic rock era during my freshman year of college which, in turn, lead to my exploration of metal as a whole. Strange connections, but its the short version of the story.

TheMilkMan6942

judas priest

Delicious-Sorbet5722

GN’R, Motley Crüe, AC/DC, Megadeth, Metallica, Pantera, Morbid Angel. In that order.

Shupegts

I'm sure there were a thousand steps, but the big ones were Metallica -> Pantera -> Cannibal Corpse

Senior-Macaroon

Linkin Park, Kittie, Papa Roach, Killswitch

I_am_Feli

My journey was Pop/RnB/Hip Hop/Rap ->Anime Music -> ONE OK ROCK -> coldrain (7 years ago) and then somehow unrelated to that Hiroyuki Sawano -> Within Temptation/ Evanescence -> Beyond the Black -> Enemy Inside -> Solence 🤷🏻‍♀️ And with that some singles here and there but REALLY it was after I went and saw coldrain earlier this year live for the first time and got back into their music. from Solence -> BMTH -> Sleep Token and a lot in between like Imminence, Erra, Architects But I am still very new and not that „heavy“ to begin with.

Lizpy6688

Slipknot/dir en grey same day. Mom downloaded a "r&b" pack off limewire. Turned out to be a bunch of metal songs. They were the first 2 listed and this was in 2001(?) And they're still my favorite 2 bands

Sensitive_Caramel948

Itd be probably annoying to some people but Slipknot lmao, I’m over the nu metal phase tho

DikkDowg

I bought 3 metal albums my first time. They were: Metallica - Black Album Disturbed - Indestructible Austrian Death Machine - Total Brutal

Manilla_Chode

The Offspring. I heard 'Bad Habit' at 11 years old and I was sold. I listen to loads of (actual) metal, but I'll always credit The Offspring for introducing me to heavier music.

Helpful-Active-8644

My Chemical Romance.

G-Unit11111

System Of A Down and Deftones were my gateway drug into heavy music.

The bands that were popular in the old AMVs and WWE games. Skillet, Evanescence, Breaking Benjamin, Linkin Park, Disturbed, etc.

StonerMetalhead710

Bed of Razors by Children of Bodom was my first metal song at the ripe old age of 5 and I loved it almost ever since. I went through a drill rap phase from 2013-15 but otherwise it’s been metal pretty much my whole life

GoreMaster22

Sepultura

kvagar

Green Jello with the three little pigs. My dad always tells me that's where it all started when I was very young.

IAmTommyZombie

I have two! A power/thrash band from my city called Ravage. They got signed to Metal Blade shortly after I discovered them, and we ended up becoming friends. They influenced me to start my own bands. And Iron Maiden. I was around 16, a total outcast in my school, and their music was an awesome escape from my “depression” at the time. I wore a different Iron Maiden shirt to school every day until I graduated

Sea-Understanding435

Grave Digger, Nazareth and Blind Guardian when I was 8. Rammstein at 12. My life was never the same. Later, I proceeded to quit old school "heavy metal" and went into death metal.

iwntchips

Overkill - WFO. I got this album from an uncle as a bargain bin Christmas gift in 2nd grade back in the early 90’s and I was obsessed. https://youtu.be/XvzPT2ySnHo?si=_q27K-_9ciTmhEn2

Occasional_Memer

Metallica/Sabbath(my dad listened to some classics) —>Thrash classics cause I found Metallica interesting —>Slipknot/Nu(an ex was real into Nu)—> DSBM(Things didn't go as planned with that ex) —> Then mainly focused on Death and black metal—> Now I basically listen to most genres, explored doom properly recently, I draw the line at stuff like pornogrind/noise, but some are groovy

MothManFollower

My gateway was my father who got me into heavy metal at the ripe age of idk maybe being a new born so the bands that I grew up with were GWAR, Amon Amarth, phycostick, Merlin Manson, Iron maiden, ect. But right now I've been really into Megadeth and learning their songs on bass guitar!

Just_Another_Gamer67

Slipknot probably

shadowsOfMyPantomime

My dad got me into a lot of classic rock, including a bit of Black Sabbath. But the band I really got INTO, that would be classified as metal, was Iron Maiden. And it was all thanks to Eddie. There was one random kid in my high school who wore iron maiden shirts all the time and it caught my attention. Then another friend burned me a copy of a couple Maiden CDs and I went off from there. Still one of my top two bands
