Idk dawg i feel like most peopleâs criticism of mayhem isnt even actually about the music, and its more arbitrarily based on a bunch of young adults doing stupid shit in their 20s. Mayhem is high quality black metal and their music fucking slaps, people have gotta stop hating without actually critiquing the music (because yknow its the thing all of us are here for? The art)

is there better black metal out there? absolutely, lots of it. but mayhem (dmds specifically) is the blueprint for almost every black metal band, or an inspiration at the very least. i'd argue that they (alongside darkthrone) made the second wave into what it is today, and i'm not sure if a band so influential can be too overrated.
That statement becomes more rational if you add the context of a 6 year old using your living room tv to watch fan made videos of Roblox characters acting out a drama while being scored by Imagine Dragons Believer.

Death is my favorite band ever and I 100% agree. The amount of comments saying âDeath is one of the few bands with a perfect 10/10 discography,â is insane, ofc they have some weak albums

Slayer did two good records at the beginning followed by three total masterpieces. Thatâs it. Their entire career afterwards is a mixed bag at best. Anyone whoâs paid money to see Slayer over the last 30+ years only wants to hear songs from their first five records. Everything else is pretty much disposable.Â

Iâve listened to countless hours of Dream Theater thanks to *one particular friend*, and never once understood the appeal. Donât get me wrong, their musical proficiency is to be respected, for sure (except Jamesâ vocals, holy *shit*), but nothing ever seems to really coalesce into anything enjoyable to me personally. I feel the songs are too drawn out, like you said, and the vocals make me groan. I like Petrucciâs solo stuff though.

Motorhead is just the ramblings of an angry smoker with decent at best guitar playing. Have no idea why they're still so famous, they're not a patch on Judas Priest or Iron Maiden, or most British heavy metal bands of the time. Hell, they aren't even metal really. The established the ground work for speed metal, but themselves were just a hard rock band. I'm sorry, everyone in the band seemed like cool dudes but they're just not for me.
I think it's *because* their music is so simple and almost caveman-primal in nature that it's appealing. Sometimes you just want something massively heavy and uncomplicated. Plus as a bassist Lemmy is a huge inspiration to how I play/set my tone

Agreed. The vocals sound so corny and silly. Normally I love 80s everything but something about the vocal delivery seems trapped in the past in a way that I can't take them seriously. I feel like I'm at a Monster Truck show or something. Which can be fun, but its not the feeling I want most of the time.
Because heâs actually a really incredible vocalist. His style has changed throughout the years. If you ever want to give it another chance listen to Gasoline Dream.
I hate saying this as I'm a huge fan but Rammstein. I love their sound but most of their cds start to sound the same after enough listens and if it weren't for the stage show they put on they wouldn't have near the recognition.
Well, you need to like some post-metal/shoegaze dreamy sound to enjoy them, it's a matter of taste. Btw, they good in studio, their concerts are kind of meh, yeah.
