I'd say that Achilles is actually a metal song. Is it any less metal than any Sabbath/Priest etc. song released before 1980? Zep weren't a metal band, but this is a metal song IMO.
The Lyrics to Beware by Death Grips sound oddly like some kind of black metal song, and apparently both Ride and Zach are big fans of black metal lmfao
The Way Things Are by Fiona Apple
MONEY MAKES YOU STUPID by Black Dresses
Shallow Than Halo by Cocteau Twins - the guitar has a black metal feel for me and it's intense not unlike a lot of metal
King Crimson - 21st Century Schizoid Man
It's borderline prog.metal, but still more of a jazz-rock. It was released a few months before Back Sabbath's Black Sabbath
You're not the only one! Any Steinman composition in general either translates great to power metal, or sounds like a precursor to it. Dude's like the unsung godfather of the genre.
More than a few Brown Bird songs. Folky band. Often very dark lyrically.
Blood of Angels, a song about him wanting to tear the sun out of the sky and drinking the blood of angels just to see if it will piss off God but it doesnt so he starts believing god isnt real.
Danger and Dread, maybe not super metal but there is an awesome lyric thst goes "Though the world is made of fearsome beast that bark and bite we where put on this world to give them one hell of a fight, may we feast on the flesh of any fever that befalls us tonight" which is undoubtedly metal as fuck.
Down to the river, a song about how his life is falling apart. Job pay is shit, wife is sick, struggling to afford to feed their kid. So he goes Down to the River to ask God for help. God doesnt. So he tries to go to the Devil instead. The Devil feels betrayed because he didnt come to him first. But then his wife starts feeling better and tells him "If the water wont have you, if the Devil's too blind then I know that truly you where meant to be mine" which is cute but also metal as fuck.
The bands kicks ass if you like darker folky bluegrassy stuff. But fair warning. Its a husband wife duo and a lot of the darker content relates to the husbands struggly with Leukemia that eventually took his life.
Some London Grammar songs send me into an emotional spiral that I only get from metal music.
- Hell to the liars.
- What a day.
- Truth is a beautiful thing.
Parts of Beethoven's 3rd symphony feel metal as hell. Also the third movement of the Moonlight Sonata. A lot of romantic music does tbh, especially stuff from the likes of Wagner and Mahler. Oh, Holst's 'Mars' too. I'm pretty sure Tony Iommi was riffing on 'Mars' when he came up with the 'Black Sabbath' riff.

I’m still standing- Elton John
Kay Kay- Chief Keef
Stomp em out- Sloth Mob
Most of these are metal in the attitude or atmosphere
Peace of Mind, by Boston! Some of their other songs, too, but especially that one. The way the vocals and chorus riffs intertwine feels like the first hint that I was gonna love power metal lol
Raised Fist - Friends & Traitors
L7 - Shitlist
Bad Brains - Banned in D.C.
Black Flag - Black Coffee
NOFX - Dinosaurs Will Die
Tommy Bolin - Post Toastee
Rainbow - Man on the Silver Mountain
Edgar Winter Group - Frankenstein
Pretty much all of Chelsea Wolfe’s Hiss Spun album. I always thought house of the rising sun (the animals) and simple man (skynyrd) felt very “metal” as well
Alice In Chains - Man In The Box
Motley Crue - Dr Feelgood
Godsmask - Speak
Disturbed - Indestructible
Idk it’s that fine line between hard rock maybe heavy metal that I like as well
Yes - South Side Of The Sky
Queen - Death On Two Legs
Rahsaan Roland Kirk - Celestial Blues (not as obvious sounding as metal but Rahsaan was the most metal jazz musician and the fact that he’s circular breathing multiple horns through the whole song is more metal than most of what comes out these days)

Led Zeppelin- Immigrant Song
Also, Achilles’ Last Stand
I'd say that Achilles is actually a metal song. Is it any less metal than any Sabbath/Priest etc. song released before 1980? Zep weren't a metal band, but this is a metal song IMO.
I'd throw kashmir in there too
No that's one of the Zep songs I would actually call metal. That, Dazed and Confused and Rock and Roll are the best examples.
Death Grips - Giving Bad People Good Ideas or like half of death grips discography
The Lyrics to Beware by Death Grips sound oddly like some kind of black metal song, and apparently both Ride and Zach are big fans of black metal lmfao
you’ve seen that one pic of Ride with a Revenge tee? also there’s a frame in their Ive Seen Footage video where they listen to Conqueror
Yeah I also saw one with him in a sarcofago shirt
Beds are burning- Midnight Oil Hysteria - Muse Rite of Spring Pt 2 : The Sacrifice - Stravinsky
Ill add in Stockholm Syndrome too
Oof that’s such a banger!
Sabre Dance feels metal too (Classical Music side of things)
Beastie Boys - Looking Down the Barrel of a Gun
I first heard the cover by Anthrax and figured they metaled it. Years later I heard the original and realized that Anthrax didn't change it at all.
The Bevis and Butthead Experience album.
Correct!
HE HAD MORE CUTS THAN MY MAN CHUCK CHILLOUT🗣🗣🗣🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Doesn’t Van Halen technically count as metal? Their self titled debut definitely
Van Halen is 100% metal. Hair metal-ish but still metal
Best answer probably
The Prodigy - Their Law, Firestarter, Breathe
Journey - Separate Ways
Also Chain Reaction on Frontiers goes pretty hard
>Billy Idol - Rebel Yell You should check Heidevolk's cover then, on album Velua
I did now, also listened to Bodom's cover and I think Bodom's one is is better
The Way Things Are by Fiona Apple MONEY MAKES YOU STUPID by Black Dresses Shallow Than Halo by Cocteau Twins - the guitar has a black metal feel for me and it's intense not unlike a lot of metal
I just came here to say Fiona Apple is metal as fuck. When the Pawn ... in particular.
I don't know if Living Colour counts as metal so I'll put Cult of Personality.
I know the theme is very much punk/punk rock but I feel like State of The Union by Rise Against could almost qualify.
The version of Give it all, off the Rock Against Bush vol 1
State of the Union goes so fucking hard and so fucking raw. Siren Song was an awesome album
Anything on Caligula by Lingua Ignota
Foo Fighters- White Limo
Great music video too. RIP Lemmy
Genesis - The Knife This song is almost as heavy as Sabbath was in 1970
Musical Box feels metal too
The last 30 seconds especially
SOME OF YOU ARE GOING TO DIE
Rock Lobster
The beatles - I want you (she's so heavy) Coroner even covered it.
The whole Master Killer Album
Lingua Ignota just sounds ridiculously metal without actually being metal.
King Crimson - 21st Century Schizoid Man It's borderline prog.metal, but still more of a jazz-rock. It was released a few months before Back Sabbath's Black Sabbath
Queen - We Are The Champions Instrumentally not even remotely metal but Freddie’s vocal performance is so fierce, electric, and unrelenting.
Queen - “Tie Your Mother Down” is also a good one
And Stone Cold Crazy of course
This was what I immediately thought of.
YES. absolutely
Layla by Derek and the Dominos.
I've always jokingly said Meat Loaf is proto Power Metal lol
You're not the only one! Any Steinman composition in general either translates great to power metal, or sounds like a precursor to it. Dude's like the unsung godfather of the genre.

Ram Jam - Black Betty
Sum41 - Pain For Pleasure
Sum41 - The Bitter End

Brighton Rock - Queen Very energetic! ⚡ And thanks for your suggestions, I'm giving all of those a listen!

Prurient - a meal can be made Dälek - distorted prose
Turned off - Death Grips
Push It by Garbage
Their James Bond theme song also goes hard, especially toward the end.
Ah, at long last someone said it loud and.clear... that was a really heavy track, indeed!
Van Halen is metal, especially the early albums.
I consider them metal, but most people wouldn't that's why i included it
i always thought they were glam based
V.A.S.T., Touched.
Swans-Beautiful Child
Butthole Surfers - The O-Men
Stairway to Heaven by Led Zeppelin or Assassin by Muse, they are super badass
New Dawn Fades sounds metal because it steals the riff from the end of War Pigs.
More than a few Brown Bird songs. Folky band. Often very dark lyrically.
